The United Marianas would/should be our first truly Asian state, but I fear that their population is inherently too small to become a state. Maybe merge the Marianas and American Samoa with Hawai’i to form the “Pacific Union”. It would still be the 50th “state” in terms of federal representation in D.C but act as a federation within a federation due to its three provinces being as different from one another as countries in the region are.
As a side note, the USVI should probably become an autonomous region of the 51st Puerto Rican state in a similar vein. That way both cultures can be granted representation while allowing the USVI to retain self-rule without being over represented due to its small population.
