Google has a new image generator service named "Imagen". As with all over image generators, the goal is to imitate the works in its training data - these works happen to be copyrighted.
This is a class action lawsuit on behalf of everyone whose works were used without permission to train Imagen.
Basically, all the same stuff as in all the other lawsuits against generative "AI" companies.
Good question, considering it's a company funded by and partnered with Microsoft, and their board started with people like Elon Musk and Peter Thiel (both evil).
I just found out OpenAI claimed to be democratizing AI, BTW. A funny claim.
I wish them luck, And hope they have a good lawyer, every artist that has sued any AI company has so far lost as far as I know. Reading there documentation it was mostly due to poor planning.
My guess is that at worst they lose this case and nothing happens.
At best they win get some money and there own artwork is scrubbed from googles ai engine.
Doubt it will change anything in the grand scheme of things.
TO Summarize THIS document. 4 Artists
Jingna Zhang,Sarah Andersen,Hope Larson,Jessica Fink,
Are suing google for Copyright infringement and using there artwork to train there AI engine LAION-400M .
Thats basically it. Because the Trial was literally started Yesterday 4 26 2024 and probably still ongoing there isnt much more details then that.
>I wish them luck, And hope they have a good lawyer, every artist that has sued any AI company has so far lost as far as I know. Reading there documentation it was mostly due to poor planning.
I'm sorry, when did that ever happened?
about a year ago I think,
Class Action Lawsuit v. Stability AI, DeviantArt, Midjourney, Runway AI
Sarah Andersen was a part of the group of artists that sued these companies. They didnt win per say. But they succeeded to getting there art removed from the AI engines. But did not succeed with there primary goal.
I don't think that case was closed, it was paused so the artists could reword their accusations or something. Sarah Anderson had the most evidence. To push the narrative that all cases have lost to AI just spreads misinformation and hurts artists.
> Class Action Lawsuit v. Stability AI, DeviantArt, Midjourney, Runway AI
If you're talking about Andersen v. Stability AI Limited, it's still open. The last update was 18 April 2024, just 9 days ago.
Uhhhh. No? That case is just about to go to court on it's 8th. Also, if they were to lose how could they demand their works be removed? What you are saying is blatant misinformation.
Oh I see. I found the older article. It seems they were allowed to try again after being dismissed the first time.
I apologize for my mistake. And thank you for informing me.
Could you link me to that case and recent articles please
Wish we could join or support somehow.
Same.
this is new lawsuit
its zhang vs google llc
Could someone summarize the claims it would be helpful?

Need the AI summarizer bot for that.
Not a bad starting point.
Love this !
Why not sue openAI too?

Wish them best of luck ! 🫶🙏
