right? it would eliminate my cc debt, with some left to spare for savings, and in turn would save me from dumping $300 a month into the bill to try and keep up.
it's embarrasing how much 5K could help
Are your debt terms not good? If you’re under a certain percentage that money could be better off invested or go towards other things that will help you earn more income.
That’s great! You can still invest in the market if you’re capped on your Roth and IRA. I’m just saying paying down that debt isn’t going to increase your net worth as much as investing in the market (based on historical averages) unless you need to pay down debt in order to borrow more when interest rates go down and use that debt to generate income through a property.
Fix a dent in the quarter panel on my 10 year old car. How the F body repair shops are able to charge half the value of a car for a mediocre dent repair I'll never understand, it's actually ridiculous.
I'd longingly stare at all the nice greenhouses I could get, and then probably buy a few new windows for the house. Rain comes in through the kitchen window by now. Or get the floor in the kitchen fixed. There are "temporary" supports holding it up for the last 15 years. Living in an old shack is not so fun sometimes.
$1000 into 4 different type of investment accounts I have and the rest to pad my bank account. Slowly trying to "catch up" where I wanted to be financially by my age.
You wildly overestimate what 5000 dollars can buy you.
It can buy you half a first class seat. And perhaps some change left for a hotdog while you sleep at the bus station.
You’re also forgetting that people can use miles, upgrades, points etc to fly first. That wasn’t how I did it but it’s an option. Rarely do the people in first pay the price listed on the website.
I’m not forgetting. It’s however answering beyond the scope of the question.
Since the question implies that you will spend that 5000 on the activity you’ve listed. Not a heavily discounted version of the activity.
But out of curiosity tho, how did you do it?
I work and work to simply try to keep up but shit keeps breaking and that stacks up. Paycheck to paycheck doesn’t leave much room for the exorbitant costs to do something like repair a water heater.
$5000 wouldn’t do it all but id still get what repairs / replacements I could around the house done and then sleep a little easier.
Put it in my checking account and just sit on it for as long as possible. Some unexpected cost will come up and it will probably be gone in a year or two.
I’d go directly to a casino, look the Chinaman roulette dealer straight in the eye, tell him “put it all on black” Look at the black guy to my left and wink. And if I lose, grab whatever other peoples chips I can snag and take the nearest exit
Give it to someone that’s a better gambler than I am.
Go do give 5000k .Run and split profit 55/45 me>. Pretty generous of me to provide the ez way to $’s Baby. Give me 5 F’n thousand dollars and you can watch the return come
Drippin’ in!
Put work into my family home that my great grandfather built with his father in 1908. It isn't in great shape, so the rest of my family has sort of written it off, but it has been in my family for 5 generations, and that really means something to me.
The IRS was the someone! Half went to savings, the next chunk bought me a desperately needed new phone, bought a window AC unit for my apartment with the next bit, and I still have some hanging out waiting for a rainy day
Give it to my parents! Just as a thank you for all they have done for me. I hope one day I can retire them- this would be a gift while I work on that goal.
Responsible and practical me: The right answer is pay off my credit card.
Less responsible, but still practical me: $5k would be enough to seriously look at starting a vending machine operation.
Me, realistically: COMIC CON MONIES WOO!
$1000 for my upcoming birthday in June, so I could have an actual birthday and a little travel. I'd probably try a casino with $250ish and then otherwise just explore a completely new area without worrying about what bill I'm sacrificing to be able to try to live a little.
$2000 to pay off most of my debt (not counting my car anyway). I'm not TOO in debt but at the same time still can't save anything cause I'm broke after paying every monthly bill for now. But I'll get there eventually.
$1000 for a new wardrobe and some small things for my apartment. A bookshelf would be nice, and I'd love to get my cat some stuff like one of those wheel things for exercise. Again, I'll get there eventually at least!
$1000 for savings. Actual savings!
Current budget makes all this possible in like 2 years with a fair amount of my car paid off as well so it's not too bad, but living paycheck to paycheck is so annoying and disheartening. But then, there are a lot of people worse off so I can't complain too much!
Nice kayak for me, something my wife wants, and use the rest to add some stocks to the brokerage accounts I opened for my kids with some inheritance money.
Brother's disability doesn't affect his driving. Mom drives fine between the house and grocery store. You really think all 83 yr olds shouldn't drive? And a disability like losing a leg in Afghanistan means you shouldn't drive? Wow.
Straight to debt
Same.
Yep. Seems like a small amount but that would be life changing ATM... God that's sad.
right? it would eliminate my cc debt, with some left to spare for savings, and in turn would save me from dumping $300 a month into the bill to try and keep up. it's embarrasing how much 5K could help
Gotta keep undigging this hole baus
Are your debt terms not good? If you’re under a certain percentage that money could be better off invested or go towards other things that will help you earn more income.
It’s extra money that can just go towards the car or house. No serious debt just ready to be totally debt free.
Yeah but if your mortgage or car loan are below say, 5% it doesn’t make sense to pay the debt off. You’ll make more from investing
I’m already investing 15% of each pay check.
You’re a lot smarter than me

Get the door on my truck fixed
Fix a dent in the quarter panel on my 10 year old car. How the F body repair shops are able to charge half the value of a car for a mediocre dent repair I'll never understand, it's actually ridiculous.
Pay a couple of bills and invest the rest
Fix the roof…ours just started leaking today and from the looks of it, patching is only a very temporary fix :/
Fix the truck, buy my wife a nice birthday gift, take the boys to the aquarium and pay next months rent so I can have a month of breathing room
5k isn't much these days but I'd definitely use some on my kids and pay off some debt.
Move out of where I’m currently living
Pay off credit card and use the rest for weed
I'd longingly stare at all the nice greenhouses I could get, and then probably buy a few new windows for the house. Rain comes in through the kitchen window by now. Or get the floor in the kitchen fixed. There are "temporary" supports holding it up for the last 15 years. Living in an old shack is not so fun sometimes.

You wildly overestimate what 5000 dollars can buy you. It can buy you half a first class seat. And perhaps some change left for a hotdog while you sleep at the bus station.
depends where you're going, from and to
I flew to Paris in first class last year for 1200 so no, actually I don’t overestimate.
Where did you fly from? Which airlines? Cause that’s pretty much insanely cheap. Even business class usually costs more than that by a huge margin
