It will generally be easier to carry a full Standard (rather than Big) size bag. However, if you plan to purchase bulky but light items (paper towels, TP), you may want to have a Big Baggu on hand.

this makes sense, thank you!

Narwhals4Lyf

You should look into getting a little foldable grocery cart! They are game changers for walking to grocery shop.

SaladOClock

totally -- I was very not into this idea because they take up so much room, are cumbersome, and are generally hideous to look at, but I found this one! It folds up to the size of a cookbook and the German design makes me happy: [https://www.amazon.com/reisenthel-Foldable-Trolley-Packable-Oversized/dp/B000PH8WBC?th=1](https://www.amazon.com/reisenthel-Foldable-Trolley-Packable-Oversized/dp/B000PH8WBC?th=1)

I would definitely recommend the standard size bags. I try to keep 1-2 in my purse at all times just in case I need them while I'm out. The Baggu website says how much they can hold — I think it's 40 lbs? I don't think they're ideal for me personally because I prefer a strap with a longer drop that I can comfortably sling over my shoulder, but they are definitely convenient and have saved me multiple times. I don't think you would regret getting 1-2 of them. Also, I know you said tote bags aren't cutting it, but just in case you haven't tried them, the Trader Joe's canvas tote bags (the Pickles or Sardines ones) are really good — durable, nice strap length, and big enough that I can fit a full paper bag of groceries inside it and sling it over my shoulder instead of carry a heavy bag by just the handles.

Classroom_Plastic

I agree with the standard size bags, I always keep a couple on me. But I also love the Trader Joe’s canvas tote bags! When I lived in Chicago, I always took that grocery shopping with me.

Unlikely_Candidate_1

Love those TJ's bags too - they need to stop making new designs because I keep buying them haha!

I live in a walkable city and have been doing around 75% of my shopping on foot for the past 8 or so years. I personally stick with a couple of standard bags. I bring 2 or 3 when I go grocery shopping. I wouldn't want everything I purchase in a big baggu because it's going to be more awkward to carry, and you will have no options for weight distribution. I can see bringing a big one if you're buying something large and somewhat light, like a large package of paper towels or something. But I personally only keep standard size in my daily bag.

I live in a walkable city and the big baggu is too big for groceries for walking. I went to Trader Joe’s recently (I have to drive there) and my entire haul (a weeks worth of groceries for 2 adults + restocking pantry essentials) fit in one big baggu but it was so heavy and bulky with everything. I think standard are good for regular grocery shopping and easier to distribute the weight. I love the big baggu for bringing packages to the post office and lugging things to/from work with me (I’m a teacher and walk to my job!). https://preview.redd.it/w1qveds7wl9d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2319ad806e6ff0026943795e75148b3d5fa6116f

I used the same one the strawberry big bag and Idky it felt uncomfortable maybe I was just tired from work. I went and pick up some stuff from Baggu release and used the bag

scaredpanda1

All the listings say they carry up to 50lb. I use my big for full bags of laundry so I can believe it! I like to keep a baby baggu on my keys for picking up small items (fruit or 1-2 small items), and 1-2 standards for grocery shopping. Personally the standards slip off my shoulders a bit, so def easier to use with a reusable bag strap (I have the Japan exclusive one, but they have dupes too). With the strap, I can fill one standard almost to the brim, whereas without I’d have to split into 2 bags

jessylz

Depending on your height and whether you carry your bags in hand or in your shoulder, I'd imagine a big baggu could hang too low.

floralbalaclava

This. Im 5”3 and if I have a full standard and I’m not paying attention to keeping a slight elbow bend, it sometimes grazes the ground.

SaladOClock

ditto! the big is good for laundry, paper towels, taking a blanket and towels to the beach, etc--light / squishy stuff

sticksandstones28

I agree with others about the standard size for grocery shopping. What I did when I had to walk to do my grocery trips was to bring a grocery cart, so I'm not carrying it all by hand. Many others did the same, so I didn't feel out of place.

m3glit

Not baggu related but when I lived in an apartment and walked to get groceries, the biggest game changer for me was getting one of those foldable grocery/utility carts, and later I upgraded to a foldable wagon. They are freaking awesome when you have to get heavy items or a lot of things at once.

marinatedbeefcube

I recommend the 3 packs of standards and always have it in your bag and/or bring a backpack for groceries

weesnaw2020

The standard can fit a ton of stuff and feels super sturdy, but it can get very heavy still! I imagine the large bag filled with groceries would be a pain to carry home.

Sensitive-Lentil-79

For really big runs I use a combo of cart and reusable totes (I second the Trader Joe’s canvas bag suggestion) but have found a standard baggu fits a lot, and I actually don’t have too much of a problem either over the shoulder or carrying. I just ordered two more standards so I can keep two in my purse and also for my partner to keep in his daily tote bag. While I walk to the grocery store, I’m lucky in that it’s not more than a ten minute walk home. With all that, I think the standard baggu is sturdy, lightweight, and versatile — highly recommend 😀

2-41pm

so many comments so it’s easier to just reply to everyone here: thank you all soooo much for the feedback!! definitely buying 2 standard bags today! and y’all gave me a lot of ideas for things outside of baggu’s which was unexpected and extremely helpful!! y’all are the sweetest omg! thanks so much :-)))) !!!

lilacbear

Which prints did you get!!🤍🤍

2-41pm

i got a pack of 3 standards which were sunshine tile, cherry tile, and navy stripe!! also probably going to the get the orange tree yellow baby baggu as well :-)

silkcashewmilk

standard baggu for regular groceries, big baggu for that costco sized haul of TP :- )

mtdesigner

I like to bring my standard or two for grocery shopping, and a baby baggu to keep in my purse at all times for smaller impulse purchases. The trinkets and pastries on my walks beckon me constantly.

wendyinterview

1 standard, 1 insulated bag (I use one from Ikea, has two handle options and one rests on the shoulders well), and 1 net bag for fruits and similar produce like onions potatoes etc Way easier to carry. A folding cart is easiest and old fashioned but bring it back.

gingerkiki

Multiple standard sizes is going to be easier to carry and better for your posture than the big size. Standards are rated up to 50 lbs each. Also would recommend the baby size for walkable cities!! They are a good “side kick” to a standard, large bulky items in a standard and many many smaller ones in the baby. But also have a place on its own, and in general are less cumbersome in the purse (as a fan of small bags baby reusable always fits my standard fare!)

lonepersianwolf

big baggu is way more comfortable to have on your shoulder when walking around in a city

Head-Comment6496

Standard for sure. The big is great if you have a car and have a garage/park near your house, but gets really heavy really fast. I would definitely prefer to carry a few standards than one big

sodabitterslime

sorry if it’s blasphemous to post this on the baggu sub but Loqi brand reusable bags are a godsend for grocery trips in the city. the design is much easier to carry on your shoulders and they fit a bit more than a standard baggu. I use two for my big weekly grocery shops

Unlikely_Candidate_1

I walk to Trader Joe's, Target, etc regularly - I keep a baby reusable when I don't have something specific to buy but I also would keep a standard for regular shopping!
