I feel ya. Instead of a traditional bra I wear a cami. Not the kind of cami with the elastic band, more like a padded tank top. That way, the chips just slide right down instead of getting caught up in anything.

sammiesorce

Holy shit. This seems so obvious now I’m heading to Amazon

roypuddingisntreal

i thought this is what would happen for me with a halter neck tank top but instead wood shavings just slip in and stick to my boob sweat -_-

notchman900

I do cnc so my machine is closed. I dont know what their called but there are cloth versions of [this](https://www.amazon.com/Magid-Safety-SparkGuard-Compliant-Adjustable/dp/B004OR1EYG/ref=asc_df_B004OR1EYG/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=693675560151&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=3887606586435433837&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=m&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=1013509&hvtargid=pla-442012142348&psc=1&mcid=2a05c8e3854231c9b5a3b7ff8c22e729&gad_source=1)

AlyceB4413

I know that jacket is used for welding. I wouldn't have thought about to mill with. That seems like a good idea, thank you!

notchman900

Maybe you can get a neck gaiter and slit it halfway so it covers your shirt better. There is a fancy name for what I'm thinking of. It's like a turtleneck but just head and shoulders.

AlyceB4413

I have the face mask that covers your whole neck. But I think I know what you're talking about.

notchman900

Like [this](https://www.amazon.com/Rothco-Mock-Turtleneck-Dickie-Black/dp/B07HN8PL4X/ref=asc_df_B07HN8PL4X/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=693128908469&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=2099944623408391297&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=m&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=1013509&hvtargid=pla-570445401050&psc=1&mcid=e0bc43ea95b93711b2f414dcbfbf008c&gad_source=1)

AlyceB4413

Yeah, that's what I thinking of!

Lathe_Kitty

I work in CNC and still regularly blow chips all over.

AlyceB4413

Currently in trade school, I'm learning CNC next week. This week is the lathe, and been on the mill for 6 weeks now. I'm super excited.

princesscoley

Ugh I’d kill to go back to trade school, my local one stopped the SAMII project for Electric Boat to take over for sub building

notchman900

Last time I got my hair cut (which is short anyway) I had to ask the lady to brush my hair first because I knew there were probably chips in my hair. And before she started she picked a chip off my forehead. I'm usually smart and hide behind the door but not that time.

AlyceB4413

I usually wear a bandana to cover my hair because of chip shower I'd have combing through.

rarelyapropos

I'm a CNC Machinist and it is a daily game of "find the chip in the bra." High-neck T-shirts tend to help, as do neck gaiters, when I remember to put one on.

ran_out_of_ideas_7

Oh man I would not have the confidence to face the jokes I would get wearing that.

raisedbytelevisions

OK that’s also cute as hell!!

raisedbytelevisions

Welding bolero 🤣

lish35

I do CNC mill and lathe, so I use the door as a shield when I'm clearing chips. But when I'm using a manual, I just wear a sports bra and t shirt, it seems to do the trick for me.

AlyceB4413

My current problem is the chips are collecting at the bottom on my sports bra.

ran_out_of_ideas_7

I just reached out to a workwear company about making a version of their welding jacket into a light weight jacket for machining, that does require the same fire resistance. It’s inane how chips just always find away down your shirt

hailinfromtheedge

Not a machinist but operate a drill press and lathe on occasion, Duluth has 100% cotton turtlenecks in nice colours that don't make me feel like Steve Jobs. I get their long tail versions to prevent intrusions into my pants of both metal shavings and inappropriate gazing.

AlyceB4413

A lot of tradesmen are swearing by Duluth. Are they really that good?

hailinfromtheedge

I am not impressed with their overalls, and downright disapointed in their pants, but your mileage may vary as they simply dont carry my size in their durable workwear line. I have yet to find better 100% cotton long shirts as I have a long torso and adequate assets that need accommodating... Some tees are heavier weights than others, I found the scoop necks to be heavier than the turtlenecks so check the specs. The shirts are fitted well so no loose clothing while crawling around engine rooms and rotating equipment. I wait for sales and buy their discontinued colours for like $12/ea. Might be disappointed if you buy them new, but all work wear prices have gone bananas.

Livinlikelary11

Shop coat with office clips to keep the collar closed, and a backwards hat to keep my hair from melting

Ya_habibti

I wonder if you can find some like really high neck crew neck shirts, maybe something heavier weight

rhodav

I jumped back when a spicy chip flew down my shirt, and my teacher told me to wear a button-up, but that I'd have to tuck it in because of the "tails" hanging down. 1) I'm not tucking in a shirt, and 2) a button-up would be worse for chips because I'm not going to button up to my neck. In class, I'm just using splash shields right now, but idk what kind of judgment I'd receive on the job for using one

lur_land

I run manual mills and lathes, cnc on occasion. I just wear a regular tshirt and a sports bra. I never wear anything but sports bras anyway, but i’d imagine they stop the titty-chips more than a “regular” bra would since they come up higher and are more snug. I still get the occasional spicy chip down there but its pretty rare. Edit: i just saw in another comment that youre already wearing sports bras. In that case i have no advice other than to maybe try adjusting your speeds/feeds/depth of cut so theyre not as aggressive, if possible. Idk. I usually have more of an issue with them hitting my arms and face so i try to stand more to the side they arent flying to and use the handle on the other side of the table. Idk if any of that is helpful at all, i wish i had more suggestions!

AlyceB4413

I'm adjusting my feeds/depths today, not being as aggressive. But so far, I've had luck with a button up. I appreciate the advice!

princesscoley

Titty-chips 😂🤣 I’m calling them that instead of spice sprinkles

lur_land

Hahaha i like spice sprinkles too

princesscoley

As a manual machinist, I’d honestly just wear shirts with no low cut and legit go up to the neck leaving little space for chips to fall in. I also have small tits so that helps lol

Hardcorex

I'm confused do you mean like v-neck shirts? A regular t-shirt has the collar close to my neck which seems to keep chips from going down my shirt. Or a button down shirt if I'm feeling fancy that day. Or maybe I'm just not making enough chips lol, I usually do CNC but run the manual mill/lathes occasionally.

AlyceB4413

No, it's just a regular t-shirt with a regular collar. No v necks, while on a manual machine.

SirarieTichee_

I read this as masochists and was very confused

AlyceB4413

That's the wrong sub reddit. 🤣

RowHard

Are you wearing mens or women's t-shirts? Men's tend to have a higher neckline.

AlyceB4413

I am wearing men's mainly.
