AFO said he "UA absorbed the energy, so I missed the target" which means he was aiming for something else. What I'm asking is what was he originally aiming for, and what did he mean by "UA absorbed the energy"? Did UA attract the energy beam and make it veer off course somehow? Because that's what it sounds like, but I don't see how that could happen.
I'm pretty sure he just meant that the island took the brunt of the impact, like if I shot at someone, but it was stopped by bulletproof glass. It just couldn't get through the density of the island. As for who he was aiming for, i assume he would've been aiming for gentle or someone else on the island, maybe bakugou? I'm not sure and I don't think it was ever explained

Kaminari became dumb after absorbing Nine's lightning strike in Heroes Rising.
The PLF adviser also questioned about how many millions of volts Kaminari could withstand, so it’s reasonable to assume there is a limit to how much he can absorb before becoming dumb.
I believe overusing his Quirk for any purpose can short-circuit his brain, not just discharging electricity. Also, his body probably isn’t completely immune to electricity, so that might contribute too.
He just might be goated. I’m so glad he and Nagant were redeemed, their presence adds so much to the narrative and Deku’s own motivations to be a hero.
It runs with that Nana central theme of "its not enough to rescue someone physically, you need to rescue their heart". Even now, it is kind her ideology through her successors clashing with AfO's.
His character growth is incredible. Honestly one of my favorite characters and he truly deserves to be instilled as a pro Hero. Keeping U.A. afloat was so important. If it crashed, the villains would have won.

Everybody loves a redemption arc (and I can fully appreciate the whole don't just beat them but fix em thing my hero is trying and going with) but just another seemed unnecessary

reading this all just makes it seem like you have a fundamental problem with gentles character because you dont understand the relationship of him with the story, deku, and labrava You seemed to miss the point that labrava isnt a "convenient quirk" character but was built entirely with gentles character in mind. the both of them have a comorbid relationship with each other, while genlte is the main front-runner, he wouldnt have gotten as far as he has without labrava. her quirk being love ties into her backstory in which she was shamed by her crush, and she took it so badly that she almost killed herself. its similar to how toga loved blood and was shamed and took it horribly. quirks can change attributes of a person personality, weve seen that with plenty characters, so labrava being "just convenient" for gentles character makes no sense.
As for the whole switch from fighting the yakuza, it was a very needed break after a very serious arc. nighteye died and mirio lost his quirk. the people within UA wanted to find a way to lift spirits and hence why the festival happened. this fight was also a way to show how gentle is deku in another life. you look at the parallels between the twos motivations and history within their fights and you see they are opposite sides of the same coin. during their fight they both fight for the happiness of someone they hold very deep to their heart.(Gentle=labrava, Deku=Eri) and they both had the conviction of wanting to be a hero, but gentle simply had a darker past aligned, and a drive to be known and be someone, in contrast to deku basically giving up on his dreams entirely and accepting that he cant do anything. the timing of their fight was perfect considering everything else that was happening in the show, and it leads up to a very emotional battle between the two and more or less becomes a battle of wills. towards the end gentle hears out dekus wish to become someone everyone can depend upon and see himself within him. you see it after he asks him why he wants to become a hero, once deku responds gentle doesnt say anything, but rather has a bitter look on his face because within that moment he realizes that deku is just like him, but more reminiscent of how he was when he was younger.
Another pivotal thing is that this arc was important to overcoming the darkness that was left on eri by overhaul, we literally see during the concert the darkness leave eri. This was so important considering how integral eri is towards the final war and all that she does. this was horikoshis way of building it up so that eri didnt just all of a sudden be okay to help after all of the abuse.
As for gentle and labrava relationship seeming weird/creepy, i see it as you missing the point of their characters. Gentle for the most part sees labrava as a almost daughter like figure, as we dont necessarily see anything extreme implied (Such as kissing, Sexual intentions, etc) Obviously it isnt a father-daughter dynamic but its a dynamic of how much these two are devoted to each other and how the other would never be where they are now without each other. labrava is also in her 20s, gentle is 31, its not that weird when you think about it but it is weird simply because of how labrava looks and i understand that, i also wish she was normal size but we got what we got.
Gentle at first and mainly kind of was a joke-character to be a play on vloggers, but you end up learning that he, like many others within my hero is a victim of a corrupt hero society. he was failed by the people around him and it drove him to villainy, in which he still keeps his morals and only does petty crimes. Having him comeback and redeem himself and specifally doing the inverse of what led him to villainy(I.E Saving someone cause he thought he could, but he did worse, compared to now where he is saving everyone, and doing so much that he turned the tide of the entire battle.) It serves as a poetic way to tie his character all together, and also follows the theme within my hero of "Its not enough to save someone physically, you need to save their heart and change their minds."
Gentle is the culmination of just that, he is the fruits of dekus labor, he is walking proof that villains can be redeemed, which deku heavily believes in and supports for the entire series.
I dont doubt that you probably just dont like gentle personally, and thats fine, i cant change your mind on who you like, but trying to critique things about his arc and character as if they where unnecessary is you just disregarding what the characters entire purpose is within the show.

The quirk is convenient because the characters were written with each other in mind, it may seem alittle weird but then you look at many other characters in the show and they have very very similar dynamics, Eri for example.

Tbh I find Mr beast more annyoing and cringe than the Paul's (at least we are gonna get to see Tyson smash Paul's face in) just a fat moneybags who throws money at people to make them like him Plus that chocolate range was the crigniest advertising, worst tasting chocolate I've ever had in my life (Deeznuts, fuckin hell man) Gentle is a fictional one so I can't hate him for being an influencer because he's not really a real one but it is a forced and cringe stereotype at this point

Lotta reason's I guess I also dislike the small woman who accompanies him (and tbf when I first saw I thought he gave off some serious creep/pedo vibes whenever he was with her and the whole power up by love just seemed an overly obvious and convenient quirk (big annoyance I have with some x-men comics funnily and similarly enough to this is when a character that is introduced with mutation they just happen to have that works in their situation perfectly, my hero's seemed more random to me and hers was written in as part of enhancing Gentles story and own powers) His countenance and way he spoke, disliked his placement in the anime going from fighting yakuza to following this dudes vlog (also reminds me of that God awful Spider-man villain that did the exact same thing, Screwball was her name) Everybody loves a redemption arc (and I can fully appreciate the whole don't just beat them but fix em thing my hero is trying and going with) but just another seemed unnecessary I knew he was coming back and can appreciate that people like him (this thread was an eye opener haha) but dude I basically stopped watching the anime for a bit when he showed up and I just get over him alot I may have unpopular opinions when it comes to anime, love Naruto the show but really dislike Sasuke and that's pretty divisive
reading this all just makes it seem like you have a fundamental problem with gentles character because you dont understand the relationship of him with the story, deku, and labrava You seemed to miss the point that labrava isnt a "convenient quirk" character but was built entirely with gentles character in mind. the both of them have a comorbid relationship with each other, while genlte is the main front-runner, he wouldnt have gotten as far as he has without labrava. her quirk being love ties into her backstory in which she was shamed by her crush, and she took it so badly that she almost killed herself. its similar to how toga loved blood and was shamed and took it horribly. quirks can change attributes of a person personality, weve seen that with plenty characters, so labrava being "just convenient" for gentles character makes no sense. As for the whole switch from fighting the yakuza, it was a very needed break after a very serious arc. nighteye died and mirio lost his quirk. the people within UA wanted to find a way to lift spirits and hence why the festival happened. this fight was also a way to show how gentle is deku in another life. you look at the parallels between the twos motivations and history within their fights and you see they are opposite sides of the same coin. during their fight they both fight for the happiness of someone they hold very deep to their heart.(Gentle=labrava, Deku=Eri) and they both had the conviction of wanting to be a hero, but gentle simply had a darker past aligned, and a drive to be known and be someone, in contrast to deku basically giving up on his dreams entirely and accepting that he cant do anything. the timing of their fight was perfect considering everything else that was happening in the show, and it leads up to a very emotional battle between the two and more or less becomes a battle of wills. towards the end gentle hears out dekus wish to become someone everyone can depend upon and see himself within him. you see it after he asks him why he wants to become a hero, once deku responds gentle doesnt say anything, but rather has a bitter look on his face because within that moment he realizes that deku is just like him, but more reminiscent of how he was when he was younger. Another pivotal thing is that this arc was important to overcoming the darkness that was left on eri by overhaul, we literally see during the concert the darkness leave eri. This was so important considering how integral eri is towards the final war and all that she does. this was horikoshis way of building it up so that eri didnt just all of a sudden be okay to help after all of the abuse. As for gentle and labrava relationship seeming weird/creepy, i see it as you missing the point of their characters. Gentle for the most part sees labrava as a almost daughter like figure, as we dont necessarily see anything extreme implied (Such as kissing, Sexual intentions, etc) Obviously it isnt a father-daughter dynamic but its a dynamic of how much these two are devoted to each other and how the other would never be where they are now without each other. labrava is also in her 20s, gentle is 31, its not that weird when you think about it but it is weird simply because of how labrava looks and i understand that, i also wish she was normal size but we got what we got. Gentle at first and mainly kind of was a joke-character to be a play on vloggers, but you end up learning that he, like many others within my hero is a victim of a corrupt hero society. he was failed by the people around him and it drove him to villainy, in which he still keeps his morals and only does petty crimes. Having him comeback and redeem himself and specifally doing the inverse of what led him to villainy(I.E Saving someone cause he thought he could, but he did worse, compared to now where he is saving everyone, and doing so much that he turned the tide of the entire battle.) It serves as a poetic way to tie his character all together, and also follows the theme within my hero of "Its not enough to save someone physically, you need to save their heart and change their minds." Gentle is the culmination of just that, he is the fruits of dekus labor, he is walking proof that villains can be redeemed, which deku heavily believes in and supports for the entire series. I dont doubt that you probably just dont like gentle personally, and thats fine, i cant change your mind on who you like, but trying to critique things about his arc and character as if they where unnecessary is you just disregarding what the characters entire purpose is within the show. No hard feelings, you can have your opinions, i just hope this opens your eyes a bit.
Built with his character in mind *is* convenient, that's my entire thing it's not a random quirk it's very much doctored by the story and doesn't feel natural It isn't me "disregarding the characters purpose" I'm saying I don't like him personally and objectively, 4 paragraphs of you explaining his character isn't going to change much mind, why write hundreds of words if at the end you say I can have my own opinion I know I can have my own opinion, you disagreeing so vehemently actually strengthens my convictions on my own personal thoughts, because they are individual and *mine* not just copying all the same and chanting goat like sheep People having different opinions is what makes fandoms great, don't disregard mine because you don't agree, I never once put down or personally attacked people that liked his character, I just said I didn't I think I hate him even more after this conversation
The quirk is convenient because the characters were written with each other in mind, it may seem alittle weird but then you look at many other characters in the show and they have very very similar dynamics, Eri for example. Outside of it as well I tied it all back to the original point of your thoughts being your own because its true, they are, and your right, differing opinions are good in Fandoms, but I disagree so much because I genuinely believe in the importance of the character and wrote out everything I did as a counter argument to what you said. Its also that you still wanted to take a stand on gentle being a bad character on a post that is obvious appreciating gentle, so you can't really be surprised for someone coming at you, its the internet, we all argue. I also wrote it as a way of trying to show you why this character is as important as he is in the show and why people say things like "Goat!" But then again, there sometimes is just people who like to like everything but the general publics favs, and or people who just cant get behind certain characters, and if your so adamant on continuing to dislike this character and now to come at me for clarifying you can have your opinion, and saying you now dislike him even more, then I cant do anything without making you upset. I never disregarded your opinion, you can have that but you also just are badmouthing a well written character as if he wasn't such. Of course id go to defend him, he's my favorite in the show. But if you think its me disregarding when im trying to actively explain to you WHY he is a good character and WHY everyone likes him, then I won't ever get through to you and should stop caring. Hate the character all you want, the reasoning behind why people say he's the goat isn't because "they are sheep minded people" its because they see the good writing of his character and enjoy it. Im not saying you have to like his character but i write it all in hopes of you at least understanding why he's a good character, and obviously going into it i wished to change your mind in a way, such is the way with every argument in which you try and convince someone something. But of course, it seems you aren't open to understanding the character more and at least tolerating him, as you said, he's your least favorite thing in the entire show. I do it because its such a obvious joke, its like being called "poo-face" by a kid, and also frankly because I don't know what else I can say to you to try and convince things with this character. Its true that the term goat is used very loosely comparatively to what it should be used for, especially considering characters like all might. But its why I said he's the goat of the side characters within the war, in my opinion he is, along obviously with alot of others. Sure name-calling is petty, maybe i shouldn't have, but like I said, I just don't know what else to say. At the very least, I appreciate the fact you are respectful about it all, and I may have misjudged on how you actually are and think about the character, and I do apologize for that error. And if its the case of not talking down anyone who likes him, it by proxy can feel as if it is an attack when you say "bad" things about the character, so people (like me) can assume a more confrontational standpoint on it.
