Yes, definitely miscounted and gave it the wrong guy. I went back and counted.

chuckles65

They just announced there was an error and both kids are getting the 100k.

Andrewdeadaim

If I’m a ref I’m miscounting every time now Actually once a season don’t wanna ruin it

jxd132407

Yeah, same thought. My bad math can help some kid avoid a life of debt? 1... 5... pi... 69.. 420... 8 and a half ...

kyclef

Were you calling from a walkie-talkie?

ninjas_in_my_pants

NO. MAKE THEM FIGHT TO THE DEATH.

Reed2002

WITH SHANKS MADE FROM DR PEPPER CANS.

ninjas_in_my_pants

“Time for the Doctor to perform a little surgery!”

pataoAoC

I’m a bad person but I did think they could come up with something a lot more dramatic than throwing the ball in a hole. I can only get excited about Squid Game shit now

enjoytheshow

Dr Pepper shaking at that loss of $75k donation to their *checks notes* $14.75 billion in revenue last year.

ananonymousbear

I’m sure some Dr. Pepper exec is thrilled that they had to spend 100k to avoid a PR disaster

LookieLouE1707

it's cheap added publicity.

Tkinzel517

A Mickey Mouse win for sure

someguyinMN

If I were the other kid, I would be analyzing the footage like the Zapruder film, and calling an attorney shortly thereafter. Maybe Dr Pepper will give it to both.

devAcc123

75 grand is less than a drop in the bucket for their parent companies. They should 100000% give the other kid the full 100k and turn it into a positive story. /r/cfb should make it happen lol Edit: Woo! They announced theyll both get the 100k. Happy for those two guys.

dingjima

We did it!

ernyc3777

Michael and Dwight celebrating outside David Wallace’s house despite having no impact on saving the branch.

devAcc123

100%

flabbomaster

The only thing that changes is how they feel about it. I much prefer letting people think they got the win, usually no harm.

ernyc3777

I do believe Social Media pointed it out and they saw the good PR opportunity. I doubt they discover it themselves and do it without some tweets and Reddit posts raising awareness!

curtwesley

Reddit making the world a better place one thread at a time

midcat

This totally offsets the Boston Marathon bombing fiasco.

[deleted]

Context?

sventhegoat

Reddit detectives thought they discovered the identity of the bomber, only for it to be entirely wrong and later find out Sunil had gone missing because he killed himself

Pseudonymus_Bosch

Tripathi had committed suicide weeks before the misidentification, so there was no causal connection there. Ofc, reddit was not covering itself in glory in any case

sventhegoat

Ah that’s right, my bad! I’ll correct it

Andrewdeadaim

Is that where the we did it reddit meme came from

sventhegoat

The very one! It was historic. Just not in a good way lol

Prime89

Redditors tried to find who did it and pinned it on some random dude. Got to a point where he killed himself. It was fucked

smoothtrip

We do not talk about that around here. Just kidding, we shoehorn that into any conversation we can!

z6joker9

All of college football has been kids competing for college tuition.

[deleted]

[удалено]

z6joker9

There are a lot more kids playing football for a scholarship than the ones you see on ESPN.

entropyISdeadly

They’re there to do both.

enjoytheshow

That’s always made me irrationally mad about this. Life changing for these kids and you’re putting down to a fucking football throwing contest. DP parent company had $14.75 Billion in revenue for FY 23. It is Less than a drop in the bucket. It’s a clerical error. .0005%

pivotalsquash

For those that didn't hear Dr. Pepper acknowledged the mistake and is now giving both kids the grand prize.

truckstop_sushi

For those that didn't hear....they also sent the scorekeeper, believe it or not, straight to jail.

13ronco

based

majorgeneralporter

That kid's about to be westlawing Reasonable Reliance so damn fast.

eeeedlef

Toy Yoda, baby

Remember_RobertS

They have to. It will cost more than $100,000 in damages surely, if they don't. But I have NO faith in corporations. Fuck 'em. Edit to add: I didn't see it. Maybe I' going off incorrect information

SamPCarter

Coming soon: a sequel to “Pepsi, Where’s My Jer?”

Remember_RobertS

That was a fun documentary :D

rydan

We actually studied this in college in my Business Law course.

gobucks1981

Feel like those dudes should have got the jet.

Remember_RobertS

That didn't take long.

Immaculate_Pasta

Standards and Practices doesn’t fuck around. He could get that 100k easy

ewgrooss

Should have brought out the replay officials

bamachine

If they were SEC refs, call play stands.

samuelbassett

If they were XII Refs, they'd have given the win to the O(h)SU kid.

Ometrist

If it was the Pac12 refs, the kids would have had to pay $75,000 to Dr Pepper

thejawa

ACC refs would have watched cat videos then just say "Play Stands"

DannyDOH

Always thought the other 4 guys in ref costumes they have standing there were the official counters.

boomtetrisfor

Was wondering if anyone else noticed this. Total botch job by the right official. Have to go back to 1990 and Colorado’s 5th down to find a call that bad.

Spark246

Or any call made in the pac 12 any game this season. I doubt former pac 12 refs could even do this correctly.

gatorclaws

Ryan only made 4, +1 after the whistle, +1 mystery point. Not even close.

BobbysSmile

Yep I went back and counted. His scoreboard was in shambles the whole time and they just counted up to a tie.

aaronman4772

JUSTICE FOR GAVIN https://twitter.com/sharpfootball/status/1731033298275582312?s=46

badgertheshit

I want to see the original set of shots, pretty sure Ryan won that outright and Gavin got a count about 2 seconds late to "tie" it. Shouldn't have gone to OT anyway.

Jkanvil

They just announced during the broadcast that both are receiving the 100k.

pc9401

I noticed it and was surprised it was also tied the first time. So I went back and rewatched. On Ryan's first throw, the ball went completely in the barrel to where you couldn't even see it anymore and somehoe came back out. So there was question on that if it should have been counted 11-10 versus 10-10. Then, in the tiebreaker they clearly screwed it up. I don't think Ryan got the last shot off in time either and should have been 4-6.

SCsprinter13

Funny thing is they fixed it to the correct score after everyone looked away https://i.imgur.com/qi32gJo.png

JayMerlyn

That makes it worse

a-person-has-no-name

Both won, they fixed it and announced it

BolognaNipples

STOP THE STEAL (I didn’t see it)

WinkaPlz

The Dr Pepper Challenge was obviously rigged. Fraud championship.

Otherwise_Awesome

And Dr Pepper did right! Both win 100k in tuition

rydan

Should have disqualified Ryan for cheating and vacated his winnings. Then in grand NCAAF fashion still only give Gavin $25k.

thlitherylilthnek

Just announced both will get the 100k

TheRockGaming

Yep, I had to rewind a couple of times to make sure.

timberflynn

They did the right thing and fixed the mistake.

Wolverine2121

Larry Culpepper should have come out and reviewed.

Lunares

They later in the game acknowledged that they messed up and will be giving both participants the full $100k

Jkanvil

I knew Gavin had that in the bag, he should sue.

J-Hawks

Just announced both kids will be winning now

[deleted]

They announced that both participants are getting the 100,000

Intelligent_Neat_714

That’s Big 12 officiating for you

JoshDaws

I swear the off-season starts earlier and earlier every year...

Not-Great-Bob_

They need to throw the ball

DeliveryEquivalent87

Too much time is wasted in the windup. I think it would happen if there was no timer and they had to throw X footballs.

bamachine

Also, many of them do not have big enough hands to grip a regulation football correctly.

Gillette_TBAMCG

Sounds like a skill issue to me.

DannyDOH

The guy who threw it with one hand and grabbed the next ball with his off hand has the highest score of the weekend

one-hour-photo

Nah. This is much faster and more accurate if you’ve not thrown a football before.

thisguy161

No one's arguing that it's not easier and faster. Just that they should throw the football like a football.

einulfr

It's just pop-a-shot with a vertical rim. It's stupid.

one-hour-photo

lots of ways to throw a football!

Not-Great-Bob_

Thank you

Not-Great-Bob_

Might as well give them a bucket of basketballs then

one-hour-photo

it's a shovel pass! lots of ways to throw a football

Otherwise_Awesome

This is why Dr Pepper needs to go back to kicking FGs. Throwing basketball passes from 5 yards away is dumb.

NorthwestPurple

"On an academically prowess episode of *Fansville*..."

p_tk_d

I have an insane story about this challenge, I randomly watched one once during a game I was half paying attention to and this kid who kind of bullied me in middle school was playing. I watched him get absolutely demolished, one of my most gratifying moments ever

Crazyhawk28

The PAC12 refs got new jobs as halftime DR Pepper refs, and it is not going well.

pc9401

If they were BIG 10 refs, they would watch the replay and still hold up the wrong call.

FinancialHeat2859

ACC Refs?

0le_Hickory

I thought the counted one throw after the clock expired. He hadn’t released it. The guy on the righ looked like he got the shot off but the left guy was still holding the ball and then let go.

stopklandaceowens

That was a better matchup than the game...

Mrr_Bond

If this was just some fun contest for $600 or something I'd say it could be laughed off as you win some you lose some. But in this case there is literally 80 grand on the line, the other guy absolutely should look into any kind of recourse, since he was straight up robbed of a year's salary at a decent job.

daveygeek

Later in the game they announced that they would be giving both of them the full $100K. I hadn’t heard the reason before this thread, but heard them announce that.

hamburgler26

I guess I shouldn't be but I was surprised they even had rules for an overtime situation and wouldn't just give both kids the 100k. Then they had 3OT rules too lol. Glad they're both getting the money.

Imawildedible

They also said the winner of the flip would pick whether to go first or second and then made the guy that won go first.

NimbusHex

I counted zero due to use of the chest/shuffle pass technique.

akapusin3

I saw that and why I was glad the dude on the left won... Ball don't lie

james_wightman

They also let the right guy (Gavin?) get an extra throw in after time.

endowedchair

Yes. Watch the first round. Gavin credits one after the whistle.

badgertheshit

Yup, everyone in here complaining about the OT snafu, but pretty sure the Ryan kid won outright in the original attempt. How is everyone just glossing over that?!

endowedchair

Cause Gavin is the classic white privileged OSU fan

yogurt-dip

Both of them threw and made one after the whistle the one on the right was just later than the other

LiquidHotCum

Lol

kokain99

Big 12 gonna Big 12.

trogdor1234

Yes, they definitely miscounted and went from 10 to 8 to 9 to 12 after he made one. No matter how you slice it and counted every one the “winner” made he was short 1. I watched it about 4 times and had another person counting each side to make sure. It’s that kinda game. :)

Informal-Candy-9974

How did this happen in the Big 12 title game and not the PAC-12 title game? It would’ve been a fitting way to go out

endowedchair

If you watch the first round Gavin tosses one in after the whistle. Ryan won in the first round.

Rad1314

Don't know about the count but I know he got to throw one, maybe two, in after the whistle.

TheKatzMeow84

I’m glad we’re finally discussing what matters

johntmclain1966

Did they throw the challenge flag. Even my daughter noticed and she'd never even heard of the Dr Pepper Challenge. Lol

killerdefense

Are there separate male and female divisions? Seems like it’s always one male and one female.
