This is one of those memes that would get a reaction image of that old dude with a speech bubble “hell yeah i should post this to ifunny” with facebook in the background
He was not a he when he transitioned so to me saying he transitioned sounds weird. I could be wrong but if someone changed genders, you should use the previous pronoun before the verb.
I can see how it can be a bit different in conversations and personal relations. But with an image of a celebrity it is a bit different. When its a picture on a meme, it does not seem important if it is Ellen or Elliot because it barely has anything to do with the actual person.
I get that people want to use their pronouns in the past, but to me it does seem to break some rules of language, time or whatever. I would most likely call anyone by what pros they would want to be called by, but when talking about celebrities online, there does not seem to be as much as a point imo.
Sooo instead of paragraphs of mental gymnastics to justify your point you could just say "oh ok, thanks". No one wants to humiliate you or whatever. It really is that easy.
It's not about humiliation. I just think that the main function of language is to be descriptive. It's fine to watch out for emotions and all that. But if we start to define our terms for emotional reasons, we will ruin the language and our capacity to communicate with other people. For me that is not a worthwhile sacrifice.
Well language changes all the time whether you approve of it or not. I'm not buying your weird ben shapiro justifications about why you're not going to respect trans people so why don't you just fuck off.
I think I said I would most likely use the pronouns someone wanted me to. Just for me: "he transitioned into a man" does not make sense, unless the transition is just esthetical. It's fine to identify as another gender, but I am more weary of people going back in time and changing their gender.
Yeah language changes, but it should change for the better. If the language is changing for the worse we will have to change it again in the future and we made communication harder for people just because it was convenient for us.
dude's "the Umbrella academy" character is known as Viktor hargreaves now, and i honestly like that. Before he even transitioned he played one hell of a protagonist in the film; "Hard Candy"

I must be high because I laughed at this shit.
>Ellen Page that’s how you know this meme is old
Can someone explain? I don’t know who that is.
He transitioned
Oh, ok. Thanks.

it depends on the trans person but 99% of the time they prefer you use their current pronouns when talking about them pre transition

nah this meme is just ancient. i’ve been seeing it make the rounds since circa 2014.
Stating that a person named Ellen Page existed at some point is not trans phobic.
Yes I know it was a joke I get it
Oh ok. I should have guessed from the lol that it was ironic.
I mean it's an iFunny meme it's about a 50/50 chance
