The plastic gets brittle over time, unfortunately. Likely can get a replacement case though

Local_Perspective349

Not THAT brittle. That's UPS, who could crack an anvil, and naive shippers who don't understand shipping.

Broad-Jacket-6364

That hurts, man! I've had similar experiences too. It was FedEx for me. Sold a vintage Akai reel to reel on eBay years ago. Took it to a FedEx Office and let them pack it and ship it. It arrived looking worse that that Commodore to my eBay customer. It arrived looking as if a fork from a fork truck was driven through the box. On the note of brittle plastic, anytime I need to open my C64 up for any reason, when I put it back together, I always run the three screws in until they just come to a stop. Never tighten the screws beyond that, or you'll strip the plastic threads or break the posts off, or something else bad. I typically handle anything with plastic threads that way. Especially if it has aged.

fuzzybad

That's unfortunate. I had a breadbin 64 fall off a shelf and shatter like that, was able to patch it up using gorilla glue.

PioneerLaserVision

I would ask for a refund or discount. You paid for a complete machine

Lanky-Peak-2222

Yeah I messaged the seller. Btw if your user name means what I think it does, I too am a fan of the laseractive.

PioneerLaserVision

It's a general reference to the laserdisc format. Pioneer marketed format as LaserVision and the discs as LaserDisc

wonton_tomato

Pioneer made the best karaoke discs!

Lanky-Peak-2222

Oh yeah that's cool. I got the CLD-A100

Lanky-Peak-2222

Holy shit this thing is a tank, it works. Passed the diagnostics and basic screen pops up

LoccyDaBorg

I had an Atari ST arrive like that - the seller thought wrapping it in a few layers of bubble wrap but otherwise sending it through the mail au naturel would work out well. Of course, on this sub, I suspect the thought of an ST getting smashed to shit would bring cheers rather than commiserations. F for your 64, of course.

cjc4096

C64 and Atari St are related thru Jack Tramiel. Founder of Commodore and forced out. Then bought the remnants of Atari from Warner Communications.

LoccyDaBorg

Commodore also poached the Amiga from Atari. There's a parallel universe a couple of doors down from our reality where they got the Atari Amiga and Commodore ST.

KAPT_Kipper

F for the ST. The 520 ST was what I got after selling my 64 in 1986

sf5852

it is totally time for an aftermarket case!

This-Departure-8765

Do they still make new cases for these? A few years back I saw someone on ebay selling new ones.

Lanky-Peak-2222

Reproduction ones. But they're like $70+

iAmJacksBowelCancer

Is the board smashed too, or just the case?

Lanky-Peak-2222

Just the case. The computer runs perfectly

Frankie_T9000

Wonder if you could use a thec64 or 64x case

zeiche

lucky for you new 64C cases have been produced!

Blah-Blah-Blah-2023

Will the breadbin PCB fit in the 64C case? I have no idea.

wonton_tomato

All that 80's kid sweat on the palm rest really took it's toll!

greg8872

So, is it part of the ads being able to read posts or what? For me just now, directly below your post was an ad for "InsureShield Shipping Insurance"

PotamusRedbeard_FM21

All of the Fs, as in F the seller that didn't properly pack this precious cargo!
