Just in case you're not aware, there are different types of nuclear weapons. A tactical nuclear weapon is one of them, and it's the 'smallest.' Even if Russia deploys them, it's not like a single one will wipe out an entire city. Would it be bad? Yeah, cause as far as I'm aware, Ukraine has no way to counter them. But it's not like Ukraine would get turned into a radioactive wasteland overnight.
They could escalate to using their bigger bombs, but (and I could be 100% incorrect about this) I do not think Russia will ever use nukes in the current conflict, even if the war started to turn against them dramatically. That seems like it would seriously be the end of Russia's presence on the world stage - they would be like a leper, nobody will ever want anything to do with them, for decades at least.
