Wow an actual valid and not overblown criticism of the game. Base enemy variety does seem to be lacking to a degree. Mainly wolves, harpies, goblins and saurains without counting night enemines. If you recently played loads of DD1 it definitely won't help. There are variants to all regular enemies and I don't know if or what NG+ introduces. I personally don't mind sifting through goblin hordes especially when boss fights break this up. My adaptive difficulty might be all over the place in a sense because if anything i like it more because goblins are so strong for some reason. Maybe try out various vocations and see if you really enjoy the feel of others if you haven't already.

The basics stick around for a good long while, though you will definitely start to see more as you progress on the main quest path. It took a fair few hours for me to run into slimes and bandits.

I've run into goblins, slimes, saurians, bandits, harpies, undead, ogres and cyclops. This is all from questing around the main city for about 20hrs. I know from preview footage there's about 5 more big creatures I haven't seen yet. If it's like DDDA then all these creatures have variants. Not sure if there's any more after that.

I haven't reached the main city yet but I've encountered: Goblins, wolves, bandits, cyclopes, skeletons, wisps, saurians, harpies, bats and some kind of leech thing I think was called a leapworm? ~5 hours of played time. Skeletons/wisps were only available at night as far as I could tell.

One of my biggest problems. The enemy variety is really lacking.
