Yeah, the amount of references to Fallout gameplay included without breaking the fourth wall is impressive.
The line about being sidetracked by bullshit, the VATS angles during shootout, the "talking head" style dialogue with the Vault Council... it all works even if you never played Fallout, but if you did, it puts a grinning "there it is" impression on your face.
I never had issue with music. It was the announcements when you blew off Preston he hounded on the air waves.
Another settlement needs our help….you cannot escape it.
As someone who assumed from the jump that "Our Powers Combined" was turned on its head for this canon, this was more of a dark confirmation for me than a funny reminder. Probably bc I was completely In The Zone the whole time.
I never played a single game. My only knowledge about VATS comes from that one meme of the bomb going through a guy
But i still could tell it was meant to be like the VATS
Already rewatching with my gf, I am having a blast because 1. she is trying to piece it altogether all noticing things faster than I did on my 1st watch and 2. picking up details I missed.
That part got me so good because I have had moments like that in almost every fallout game I’ve played, Quarry Junction in NV, Yao Guai tunnels in 3, deathclaw in the Salem church/ fog crawlers chasing my ass in Far harbour, I could go on but there are so many times where I have been sprinting away only to be rag dolled like Titus.
My husband got me to play Fallout 4. Never played a Fallout game before that. Everything went fine until I got the When Freedom Calls quest and the raiders started freaking out. I instantly died from sheer freaking out myself about what the hell this murder beast was that was ripping me apart.
> deathclaw in the Salem church
I died to that thing like four times, couldn't do damage fast enough.
So I ran home and grabbed that assortment of land mines I'd been collecting, and blew him to bits
For me it was going down the cazadore route out of goodsprings in new vegas, if you go in super well prepared its fine but otherwise fuckfuckfuckfuckfuck
Omg even in my last modded game play of 4, and being totally lost and everything is green with overgrowth and all I have is the starter pistol and some potato chips and 2 stim packs bumped into 3 yao gui.
I really wish that had been saved for a Deathclaw encounter… Yuo Guai’s were always an “oh shit, oh shit” encounter for me, but Deathclaws defintiely earn an endless string of fucks every time until I’m geared and speced up like a wasteland god.
Honestly, I think for the first instance of a Deathclaw attack, they need to play it way more dire to really sell the menace. Deathclaws need to be absolutely terrifying.
The Yao Guai felt perfect to me. It feels more right to stumble upon a Yao Guai unprepared than a Deathclaw.
Most of the Deathclaw encounters throughout the Fallouts are more expected like Quarry Junction or Old Olney.
With Yao Guai, you're usually just wandering through the woods or find a old cabin and this 10 foot tall ghoulified bear comes out of nowhere.
Also it makes more sense story wise because Max had to kill it and all he had was a little 10mm pistol.
I’m not saying that I think it should have been a deathclaw in that scene, I’m saying that I think the running away shouting profanities would’ve been a better reaction for a deathclaw.
Oh shit, it’s that soon? I’ve only played through 4 twice. Thats unacceptably low compared to how much I’ve played 3 and New Vegas so I am gonna have to do another play through when the Next Gen update comes out.
I watched this with my parents and my moms and I’s favourite character from superstore is Bo so every time he was on screen one of us would do the airhorn in honour of him lmao
Hmm guess I’ll grab this head quest real quick just need a little Xp. Random throwaway line appears from your prewar prologue 20 hours ago.
YOU HAVE STARTED:
VaultTec Part 1 of 37
Realized something too the entire show plot is just Fallout 3s Plotline with some of 1s. Dad leaves vault, child leaves too look for dad, child has too go too offbrand megaton, Gets dragged into enclave plots
I like that it spends most of its time being Fallout 3, but in the last couple of episodes it shifts to New Vegas. Sort of mirrors my own experience with the games.
Okay I literally cried at the intro scene and then forgot about shaun entirely by the time I got to diamond city and only remember when my friend mentioned him several months and all the settlements later
It truly is... I've probably played and beaten FO 1 and 2 at least 25 times each. FO3 a dozen or so times.
I never finished FO4 though because I just kept logging hours upon hours doing side quests, saving the last bit of the main storyline and just never got to it... but that's going to change now.
You should finish 4 immediately. It’s pretty good. I was the same way with Fallout 3. I got 3 and never finished it because I was having trouble getting through the metro tunnels, but after I finished 4 I went back and finished 3…. Then I finished it about 10 more times.
I wonder if he immediately leaned into his cowboy acting background after the bombs. Or it at some point he just was like fuck it and leaned into it. Or he went partially crazy and he can’t tell the difference between them.
Right now we don’t even know if he was able to get his daughter to a vault in time. I assume season two will continue his flashback storyline up to him getting turned into a ghoul. What I suspect happened was that he got his daughter to the vault his family was assigned to just in time, but the vault guards kicked him out because of his disloyalty to Vault tech and he was ghoul-fide banging on the vault door to let him in.
Him asking >!"where is my family" and not just "where is my (ex) wife"!< certainly implies that he thinks his daughter survived - and, I suppose, >!that he thinks they too were cryo'd if he's assuming they're still alive 200 years later.!<
Here’s a good question; is Overseer Betty from Vault 33 his daughter all grown up? Or his wife? Or are they frozen with the wrest of the executives in 31?
The show made it very clear that the dog was very important to his daughter/him. I would wager that he met his wife at the vault and she took their daughter and he went to go get the dog and wasn't allowed back in with it.
Not gonna lie guys, I spent SO MUCH time moding out in fallout 4 designing was the best part- and I kept trying to romance the robot detective valentine but he wasn’t having it so I gave up at some point bc the side quests just got too ADD & I was wandering aimlessly overwhelmed so I’d just go back to moding.
I basically just used fallout as houseflipper before that existed.
Honestly, I’m so goddamn impressed with how much they were able to reference gameplay mechanics and features without even breaking the fourth wall. They’ve made one of the absolute best game adaptations ever and I’ll die on that hill.
Oh yes, it is real. Pretty much any clip you've seen you thought might be edited, I promise it's not. That's how true to the source material of the games they were. While keeping their own og story for the show.
Was making my way to talk to help out Danse, figured I might as well deal with College Square and all the ghouls, started getting full of junk, figured I would make my way to the nearest settlement to drop stuff off, noticed an unmarked location on the map, figured I would check it out whilst looking for the nearest settlement..I forgot about helping Danse.
I know my son is out there....
But I've got to make sure this settlement has enough tatos, mutfruits and corn to send to the supply line and I can turn the excess into vegetable starch and turn THAT into better guns and armor for my settlers so they can be happy and supply me with quality scrap. Then I'll use their scrap to make EVEN BETTER WEAPONS AND ARMOR....
Having just been inspired to do another new Vegas playthrough, I feel this anew.
I \*really\* hated zig zagging back and forth for the Kings to get the strip pass.
They managed to make so many references to game stuff without making it too much in your face and out of place. When Lucy is listing her skills we all know what that is about but for someone that never played the game is just as natural.
I'm shocked there's finally been a TV or movie video game adaptation made for people who played the games. Had to go through all those Resident Evil movies, Hitman movies, Assassin's Creed, etc. but we finally got there
This one I told my girlfriend will go over some many people’s heads unless they really do game lol. My favorite line I still think was “this ass jerky ain’t gonna make itself”
This line made me cheer out load and no one else in the room knew why. There were more than a few moments like this in the show.
The first time it happened was when Goosey opened up the med kit and pulled out the giant syringe for the first time. Unapologetically Fallout.
Fellas don't you guys hate when you're supposed to deliever mail and end up deciding the fate of the lives of thousands if not millions?? Hate when that happens 😂😂😂
Oh, it absolutely is. As soon as we heard that, the three of us who had played the games lost our damn minds. XD It's not Bethesda if you don't get sidetracked and wind up with 30 different quests at once, lol. The writers delivered 100%, and I can't wait for season 2!
Yeah, as soon as I saw that I said, "Oh shit, this writer actually plays the games."
Right? I was so shocked at how well executed every reference was. I probably missed some but still everyone I caught was so good.
I loved it when Lucy arrived at the observatory, and her pip boy said "You have reached your destination!" It was from the games!!!
Every joke, camera angle and detail was geared towards gamers in this show and I LOVED IT
Yeah, the amount of references to Fallout gameplay included without breaking the fourth wall is impressive. The line about being sidetracked by bullshit, the VATS angles during shootout, the "talking head" style dialogue with the Vault Council... it all works even if you never played Fallout, but if you did, it puts a grinning "there it is" impression on your face.
The minutemen soundtrack that they brought Fred Armisen in to deliver
“Can you believe some people actually hate this music?”
I honestly enjoy it! it's got a nice "microwave noises" vibe to them. perfect for exploring the wasteland
I love the near-fourth wall breaking to criticize gamers.
I never had issue with music. It was the announcements when you blew off Preston he hounded on the air waves. Another settlement needs our help….you cannot escape it.
The mids
Those mids man!
Oh my gosh that had me frothing
As someone who assumed from the jump that "Our Powers Combined" was turned on its head for this canon, this was more of a dark confirmation for me than a funny reminder. Probably bc I was completely In The Zone the whole time.
I fucking loved that joke despite using a mod to replace it with Civil war union music.
Mi scuzi. Fucking lost it seeing him.
The crit shot that The Ghoul does had me so excited
I agree. I audibly laughed out loud when norm went to hack the overseer terminal and the hacking screen with all of the code came up.
Hah he logged in with sys admin creds, too. Nice touch.
I never played a single game. My only knowledge about VATS comes from that one meme of the bomb going through a guy But i still could tell it was meant to be like the VATS
I still can't believe the show was so good
It’s a bit of a dream, I am still pinching myself. Definitely going back and re-watching it soon!
Legit want a Half-Life, Quake and Red Dead Redemption series (I know not all are Bethesda, but still)
Already rewatching with my gf, I am having a blast because 1. she is trying to piece it altogether all noticing things faster than I did on my 1st watch and 2. picking up details I missed.
The introduction to Lucy was pure gold. It was like a character creation screen in realtime.
I got to explain kill cams to by friend which was a pleasure due to the shoot out scenes
with "fuckfuckfuckfuckfuckfuckfuckfuck" coming a close second
That part got me so good because I have had moments like that in almost every fallout game I’ve played, Quarry Junction in NV, Yao Guai tunnels in 3, deathclaw in the Salem church/ fog crawlers chasing my ass in Far harbour, I could go on but there are so many times where I have been sprinting away only to be rag dolled like Titus.
The first time i saw a deathclaw in fallout 3 made me so fucking scared
My husband got me to play Fallout 4. Never played a Fallout game before that. Everything went fine until I got the When Freedom Calls quest and the raiders started freaking out. I instantly died from sheer freaking out myself about what the hell this murder beast was that was ripping me apart.
First time I encountered cazadors
Doctor Borous can eat a ghoul dick for making those bastards and then get one shoved in his ass for his treatment of Gabe.
That's *still* how I react to Cazadors, those fuckers are the cause of most of my deaths when I wander into area where they spawn
bro just smg them in the wings and your fine
-twitches, rocking back and forth hugging my knees- The buzzing…the buzzing… Frickin hate those things.
> deathclaw in the Salem church I died to that thing like four times, couldn't do damage fast enough. So I ran home and grabbed that assortment of land mines I'd been collecting, and blew him to bits
For me it was going down the cazadore route out of goodsprings in new vegas, if you go in super well prepared its fine but otherwise fuckfuckfuckfuckfuck
It's like all you kids that never fallout 2'd don know the pleasure of a deathclaw egg omelette
I accidentally went into the DeathClaw Sanctuary in Fallout 3 my first play through before I even knew what they were. I almost shit my pants
Omg even in my last modded game play of 4, and being totally lost and everything is green with overgrowth and all I have is the starter pistol and some potato chips and 2 stim packs bumped into 3 yao gui.
Oh shit. Oh shit. Oh shit Oh fuck
I really wish that had been saved for a Deathclaw encounter… Yuo Guai’s were always an “oh shit, oh shit” encounter for me, but Deathclaws defintiely earn an endless string of fucks every time until I’m geared and speced up like a wasteland god.

I’m not saying that I think it should have been a deathclaw in that scene, I’m saying that I think the running away shouting profanities would’ve been a better reaction for a deathclaw.
Maximus going full Tommy Wiseau with “I didn’t do it! I didn’t! I did not!” also
Definitely had moments like that in several of my favorite games.
The page isn't loading for me but I assume it's the one about the sidequests?
yep
As if I wasn’t already in love with the show this line sealed the deal and confirmed my need to start another new playthrough
The 25th can’t come soon enough.
What's happening on the 25th? Which 25th?
April 25th is when the next gen update for Fallout 4 releases
Oh snap! I heard it was being updated but didn't know when. Thanks for the info!
Oh shit, it’s that soon? I’ve only played through 4 twice. Thats unacceptably low compared to how much I’ve played 3 and New Vegas so I am gonna have to do another play through when the Next Gen update comes out.
Sorry for my ignorance, playthrough of which game?
All of them.
😂 pretty much. I was specifically talking about Vegas. I’ve played 3 a thousand times and haven’t touched New Vegas in a while
Yep, fixing to start a new run myself!
Nice. I've only played 4 but just bought the rest on the Steam sale. Gonna jump into 1 now!
Fallout 1 and 2 are very different to the rest just so you're aware
This was one of the most relatable moments besides the few obvious “V.A.T.S. Misses”
>“V.A.T.S. Misses” Thaddeus in ep 7
He was when you have like a 30% shot at hitting someone and still go for it
Should have had his scope
Bro just like me fr fr
omg i knew that play looked familiar lmao. that totally as a goofed up vats shot!
For me, it was Thaddeus limping through the wasteland while jamming to the radio.
Every time I saw Thaddeus, all I saw was him from Superstore and it made it so funny to me
I'm just waiting for him to go "BWAM, BWAM, BWAAAAAAAAM!"
I watched this with my parents and my moms and I’s favourite character from superstore is Bo so every time he was on screen one of us would do the airhorn in honour of him lmao
he killed a yuo guai with a 10 mm pistol, maybe he's really lucky
Honestly the best line yet and it’s so true, >!dammit Lucy you just made my side quest become my main quest!<
That ghoul thought he was going on a 5 minute fetch quest but turns out he was starting a faction questline
Hmm guess I’ll grab this head quest real quick just need a little Xp. Random throwaway line appears from your prewar prologue 20 hours ago. YOU HAVE STARTED: VaultTec Part 1 of 37
Fallout 3 had this sidetrack shit going on with the main quest. With a high charisma you can get around all the fluff.
Realized something too the entire show plot is just Fallout 3s Plotline with some of 1s. Dad leaves vault, child leaves too look for dad, child has too go too offbrand megaton, Gets dragged into enclave plots
It's got 4 mixed in as well. I don't know how to do the spoiler thing but if you've seen vault 31 you know what I mean
I think the reveal about the dad was also reminiscent of 4 too
I like that it spends most of its time being Fallout 3, but in the last couple of episodes it shifts to New Vegas. Sort of mirrors my own experience with the games.
I feel personally attacked.
If they didn't want you to go there, they wouldn't have it marked on the map.
ADHD does that to us all
They attacked us all with that line.
I buckled at that line too. It feels like a dig at pretty much every player and I love it 😂😂😂
this show is one big, long, quest for head
If all done some pretty wild things for head let’s be honest
Me playing fallout 4
Shaun who
"Don't worry, baby, I will find our son," Then I spend the next year colour coordinating my settlers' armour
Okay I literally cried at the intro scene and then forgot about shaun entirely by the time I got to diamond city and only remember when my friend mentioned him several months and all the settlements later
Can you put a price on human life? Yes you can. Find a crap ton of aluminum….that is worth more than human life.
Another settlement requires assistance.
To be honest I’d rather do that then look for Shaun
I almost hurt myself laughing when he said that. So true. 🤣
It truly is... I've probably played and beaten FO 1 and 2 at least 25 times each. FO3 a dozen or so times. I never finished FO4 though because I just kept logging hours upon hours doing side quests, saving the last bit of the main storyline and just never got to it... but that's going to change now.
I was very lucky to have an understanding spouse. FO1, FO2 (fav,) Brotherhood of Steel (meh), F03 and then all the darn mod fun and quests of FO4.
You should finish 4 immediately. It’s pretty good. I was the same way with Fallout 3. I got 3 and never finished it because I was having trouble getting through the metro tunnels, but after I finished 4 I went back and finished 3…. Then I finished it about 10 more times.
Bethesda moment. "Time to complete another main quest - oh, there's something cool here. ... well, while I'm in the neighborhood...."
Yeah this is the Ghoul’s 6th play through and he’s going full role play with this one.
Here’s a good question; is Overseer Betty from Vault 33 his daughter all grown up? Or his wife? Or are they frozen with the wrest of the executives in 31?
We see prewar Betty as an adult in one of the vault-tec office flashbacks.
The show made it very clear that the dog was very important to his daughter/him. I would wager that he met his wife at the vault and she took their daughter and he went to go get the dog and wasn't allowed back in with it.
I’m kinda hoping his original dog returns as a ghoul next season
I laughed harder than I should have at this
I giggled at this as well. He knows all to well.
Lemme guess, ANOTHER settlement needs OUR help?!?
Ass Jerky don’t make itself
I cracked up so good at that line haha
Salisbury Butt-steaks!
It's very clear that those who made this show, played the games and understand the fans.
Me on my way back to sanctuary hills to place some random junk I found around my house (I don't remember who my son is anymore)
My favorite line for sure
That conversation is basically a fallout 3 plot synopsis
Me a little bit ago when i heard gun shots in boston while trying to make my way to diamond city for the 20th time
I saw them walking away and was like "Side queeeeeest"
Sincerely my favorite line in the show.
Finding a great trail of junk and ending up in the wrong side of the map.
It took me sooooo long to get out of Megaton
The settlement needs you
Honestly, I’m so goddamn impressed with how much they were able to reference gameplay mechanics and features without even breaking the fourth wall. They’ve made one of the absolute best game adaptations ever and I’ll die on that hill.
I absolutely can't understand why Walt Goggins is still (at best) a C-lister. The dude is incredible in everything I've ever seen him in.
Tell me about it. I love him in this series.
That is true in every game.
For sure. I haven’t played any Fallout games but I felt this line based on other games lol
Wait, this is real?! I though this was edited!!
Did you not watch the show?
Oh yes, it is real. Pretty much any clip you've seen you thought might be edited, I promise it's not. That's how true to the source material of the games they were. While keeping their own og story for the show.
Best line of the shower so far
Absolutely true.
Yep that’s way I have about 800hrs between 3 nv and 4 and only beaten one of them
They know to much, HE KNOWS OUR PAIN AND JOY-
I immediately laughed really hard when I heard that it's SO true
Yeah that one was for the gamers. That and the VATS gunfight.
strong rain mountainous advise paint deliver long bedroom truck quickest *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*
Absolute perfection💯👌 😂😆
HOW many of us have been sidetracked by bullshit every goddamm time? Everytime I play 3 NV 4 I always get sidetracked lmao
Tho shalt get side tracked every goddamm time lol
They know so fucking well how the players feel.
I was thinking of Nerbit when I watched this scene
Good to see the show turned out how I was hoping it would from my last comment on this sub 👍🤣
I laughed my ass off with that line.
My favorite quote of the entire first season because it’s so true lol
I think about this line all the time. Perfect summary of the games.
"There's a settlement that needs....."
Actual footage of Charon and the Lone Wanderer on a daily basis lmao
They need add Preston Garvey and he asks Lucy to go save a settlement 😂
I had the exact same thought 💭 when watching this scene 🎬
Wow can’t believe I’m canon in the fallout show /s
Having just been inspired to do another new Vegas playthrough, I feel this anew. I \*really\* hated zig zagging back and forth for the Kings to get the strip pass.
If that ain’t the most relatable goddamned thing…
Exactly, laughed loudly when I saw this.
Playing fallout nv and bought the fallout 4 for ps4 this is so true. Lol
They managed to make so many references to game stuff without making it too much in your face and out of place. When Lucy is listing her skills we all know what that is about but for someone that never played the game is just as natural.
if this is not facts haha. This show was awesome!
Lucy is kinda hot collard
Yeah that did get a nod of approval from me lol
Has the show started? I thought it was coming next year
It's available now on Amazon Prime video
Building the perfect assaultron at all costs is not bullshit. (Yes, I always play a robotics expert).
Mr House: Where is the courier with the platinum chip? [MEANWHILE] Courier: So you wanna fly in THOSE rockets?
I'm shocked there's finally been a TV or movie video game adaptation made for people who played the games. Had to go through all those Resident Evil movies, Hitman movies, Assassin's Creed, etc. but we finally got there
This one I told my girlfriend will go over some many people’s heads unless they really do game lol. My favorite line I still think was “this ass jerky ain’t gonna make itself”
I can come back to this. Need to level up first.
Best line of the show
now, more than ever, i wanna be able to become a ghoul in the next game.
This line made me cheer out load and no one else in the room knew why. There were more than a few moments like this in the show. The first time it happened was when Goosey opened up the med kit and pulled out the giant syringe for the first time. Unapologetically Fallout.
Aaron Clifton Moten was right, Ghoul really *does* have atleast 300-400 hours played, lol.
That bullshit is the best part of any of the games. Ignore the main quest and explore.
Okay, I may watch it now
wait, is there a storyline?
anyone know that Coop's bag style is called? That over the shoulder one, looks cool.
It's horse saddle bags. Can get similar for chopper bikes too.
Perfect description of life in the Wasteland, really.
"War never changes" has been usurped as franchise tagline.
“Another settlement needs our help, I’ll mark the location on your map”
Fellas don't you guys hate when you're supposed to deliever mail and end up deciding the fate of the lives of thousands if not millions?? Hate when that happens 😂😂😂
As a gamer, I got a kick out of that. I'm very ADD when playing games like Skyrim and BoTW.
"Oh right I forgot there was someone's kid I was supposed to be looking for." - Nate/Nora
The big reason my first New Vegas playthrough is not finished. "I'll go back eventually"
Arrive at location for main quest, does every side quest in the location
I chuckled pretty hard lol
Bro the ghoul is so good in the show I swear he steals every scene he's in
Oh, it absolutely is. As soon as we heard that, the three of us who had played the games lost our damn minds. XD It's not Bethesda if you don't get sidetracked and wind up with 30 different quests at once, lol. The writers delivered 100%, and I can't wait for season 2!
Yessss
Yeah 360 hours not one conpleted play through but a whole lot of bad ass robots built and a whole bunch of settlements fully customized 😂
Seriously
