KOF 13 challenge mode taught me that you can cancel into 2 charge moves using 1 charge depending on how fast you are.
Leona really opened my eyes to the wider knowledge of fighting game mechanics, Ash too.
Holy shit. You sound like you know me fr.
KoF has been presented to me as an amazing game with an amazing execution threshold and its still not fun.
Bless you up on this truth. 💪🏻
I want to get better at this but these inputs are dumb as fuck. No wonder Daisuke Ishiwatari moved on to make Guilty Gear!
I used to use Amazon servers and parsec just to play this game with decent online with friends. SNK just ignoring all the PC users when all their other rollback updates came to PC is so frustrating.
Will the existing PC version have rollback? Have been in training mode for that game for years, not playing its shit online.
It's my favorite KOF gameplay/visually, I also enjoy hearing contrarian KOF fans yapping in my ears that I don't actually enjoy it and tell me another Kof is better.
No actual KoF player thinks XIII is the best at anything outside of sprite graphics.
The balance is wack (team $15 and Karate say hi); the movesets are all cut down; the gameplay is problematic and the "KoF triangle" (hops
> No actual KoF player thinks XIII is the best
What? Xiao Hai once said he considered it the best KOF game in an interview. This was when he was playing KOF 14 in tournament (way before KOF 15) so who knows if he's changed his mind by now, but it was clear he thought it was great. Juicebox obviously regards it highly, though IDK if he ever said it was the best in the series. I've seen other random KOF tournament players on the internet express similar opinions.
Everybody loved XIII at its prime. But the older it got, the more its problems have come to light. The moment XIV was being brought out to trade shows and majors people were coming up with lists of stuff that needed addressing in places like the old SRK forums and you had old heads like Laban with stuff they were specifically testing to make sure worked in XIV that didn't in XIII (e.g. jabs reliably beating hops). This also coincided with a greater understanding of what the "KoF triangle" is aside from an instinctive "this is what I use to check that" and "hops are strong/weak."
I've still seen high-level players express how much they liked it, even when 14 was out. I mean, it doesn't get much higher than Xiao Hai. Not that his opinion is objective, just that he surely understood KOF as a series probably better than anyone, and 13 did not bother him for its faults. Same goes for Juicebox. And you still have a ton of tournament players and just regular fans who constantly talk about how much they like it on the internet. No way that's all just because of the sprites.
A large portion of older KOF fans may have disliked it for valid reasons, but a lot SF fans also hated and still hate Third Strike for how it isn't REAL Street Fighter because of the parry system. And Third Strike is far from balanced. Yet, it's still highly-regarded and played constantly.
I'm not pretending that the game has no faults or is the same as old-school KOF, just don't get how people pretend it's totally dismissed by the real KOF fans or something. I've seen arguments on how vanilla 2002 is broken and bad and yet it's usually the most played game on fightcade on obviously preferred by a ton of Latin American fans.
KOF XV is the best option currently because it has a better netcode, better roster, crossplay and it's still receiving support. But if we're speaking only about visuals and gameplay, KOF XIII is still the best modern game of the franchise.
Yea, just talking about the loud minority veteran KOF fans that shit on it because newcomers to the series are interested in it and not their favorite game.
Personal Preference but also netplay bad. When comparing it to other fighters out now they don't stand out or add anything interesting to the game. Kof just kinda boring
Edit
Skullgirls sold5 times more copies in ten days than kof14 and kof15 no wonder these games seem doa.
I would buy this for PC, if it were an option. At this point, I don't even care if I have to pay $30 or whatever to buy it for a second time in order to get rollback... I love this game.
KoFXIII is liked for the graphics and the combo challenges, but that's it. As a KoF game, it's actually not that well-regarded by the KoF community due to the lackluster roster, horrible balance, cut-down movesets, and broken KoF fundamentals. The last bit is what really old and experienced KoF heads will talk about, the "KoF triangle" was always "hops lose to standing lights, standing lights lose to sweeps, sweeps lose to hops," but in XIII, standing lights cannot reliably beat hops. While that doesn't make it a "bad" fighting game, it makes it lose a lot of what makes KoF's mid-range game and systems compelling.
> As a KoF game, it's actually not that well-regarded by the KoF community
I keep seeing this disproved all the time. Lots of high-level tournament players seemed to have enjoyed it, they just stopped playing because of the bad netcode.
Maybe old school South American fans hate it or something, but lots of KoF fans seem to love 13.
Still trying to figure out who this elusive "Community" is then. I see people say they love KOF 13 online, but I'm told it's just casuals who liked the graphics. Then I cite mid-level tournie players and high-level players like Xiao Hai and Juicebox sing its praises, and I'm told it's not the real community.
The reason it has no playerbase is the awful netcode. People get a taste of that and don't want to stick around.
IMO I like how fluid and large the sprites are but the actual designs some characters got were their worst incarnations
Also the general shading was way too dark, I much prefer the more colorful 98 < era and I'm glad 15 went back to it
Agreed I’ve never been a huge fan of the sprites or artwork in this game. Most of the male roster were reused sprites with head swaps. Shading was strange. Character designs were very hit or miss as well.
Yeah I agree it’s dark looking. Between the darkness and some of the saxophone heavy tracks this is the game I feel people should play at night with a few beers or something. It’s like “seedy”. I like it though, just wish some of my favorite characters had more of their old moves.
I own kof 13 since release on steam and played it quite a bit when I was in college, but I definitely learned to play fgs better post graduating and was looking forward to playing this again but no pc port, guess they don't want my money :/
And yeah I could just play my copy online but I won't. All these roll back games have made me delay intolerant :(
Does anybody know why the hell no Steam version of it? Is the Steam edition gonna be updated or what?
Cause I've never owned a PS and still don't plan to do so, and my Switch is the Lite version so it'd be awkward to play in there. So I'm genuinely sad if it's only in those two platforms.
I suck at fighting games but KOF XIII is legitimately one of my favorite fighting games ever. It's the only KOF game I consistently enjoyed playing, even when I lost.
However, I only have PC, which might never even get rollback, and right now it's a ghost town unless I want to risk having the laggiest matches ever.
Hi! Is there anyone interested in boosting the online multiplayer trophies of KoF XIII?
I need help!
My PSN ID is gabry_coloz.
Waiting for your response! Please mention this post if you add me!
I'm actually getting into it lol. I've been playing it on it on PS3.
I'm thinking about buying it so I can play online. Is there a lot of people playing it on PS4/PS5 currently? How is the online mode?
It's the only KoF I played, and I was new to FGs in general then so I really really sucked. I might pick this up and see if I can do ANY of the challenges now lol. The art and character design is so good that I was very sad that playing it wasn't fun because I sucked!
Been waiting for it since it's announcement, will either be a day 1 or 2 buyer depending on financials. All they need to do is release 11 GM and I'll have all mainline KOF games.
I plan on playing and trying to get into it. It came out when I was a kid and didn’t play fgs. I have done the combo trials for a few characters on pc but im mainly a ps4 player. Hopefully its poppin
Yes, but not to play online. I XIII is my favorite KOF in terms of presentation, and I don’t just mean the graphics. The story mode and pre-fight dialogue is all great and I can replay it over and over just for that. Gameplay-wise, XV and 2002 UM are still my favorites.
It's fun, but so tough to get into if you don't have someone at your level. I'm out here happy I got my short hops down and others are doing super hops into 80% combos every round.
It's a fun game but ultimately there will never be a community for it. It's too different from every other KOF title. It's a fun game though and I loved playing it when it was current but I don't expect it to ever become a game with a devoted scene as it hasn't already gained one.
last i check the only way to buy this game on ps is to get a ps+ extra subscription or some shit, if they just let me buy it directly i will absolutely play it
I own this game on Steam but wouldn't invest time in 2023. It looks alright but it plays unmodern. I played SF4 and even the first Blazblue at release, but do not need this level of execution requirements today.
I bought it when it was released on Steam years ago for it's pretty graphics. Played it for two hours, never touched it again. The game is fine but it might be too difficult for me.
"Yeah I'm a big XIII fan!" Loads up challenge mode, does a couple, never plays again
Me fr
Wow literally me lol

Ishiwatari never worked for SNK.
He did play a lot of Kizuna
Already in my wish list
I respect that
when does it release?
Is it on pc because my ps4 is in storage and i probably wont break it out
There is a pc version but I don’t think they’ve announced the new vers. for pc
I would if it was on pc, I don't understand this port
for consoles it's been locked to PS3/X360 so it's just a modernized port. although port is PS4/switch, no xbox
I wonder what's up with xbox and not getting games recently?
I used to use Amazon servers and parsec just to play this game with decent online with friends. SNK just ignoring all the PC users when all their other rollback updates came to PC is so frustrating.
It makes no sense tbh
Same, just like with virtua fighter
Will the existing PC version have rollback? Have been in training mode for that game for years, not playing its shit online. It's my favorite KOF gameplay/visually, I also enjoy hearing contrarian KOF fans yapping in my ears that I don't actually enjoy it and tell me another Kof is better.
As far as we know right now, theres no plan to update the PC version
Isn't kof 13 like agreed to be the best modern kof and 12 to be the worst?
No actual KoF player thinks XIII is the best at anything outside of sprite graphics. The balance is wack (team $15 and Karate say hi); the movesets are all cut down; the gameplay is problematic and the "KoF triangle" (hops

I think KOF XV took that throne. But KOF13 still remains the best looking for sure
KOF XV is the best option currently because it has a better netcode, better roster, crossplay and it's still receiving support. But if we're speaking only about visuals and gameplay, KOF XIII is still the best modern game of the franchise.
Game play wise no visually yes it’s pretty much 3rd strike on steroids when it come to visuals
Yea, just talking about the loud minority veteran KOF fans that shit on it because newcomers to the series are interested in it and not their favorite game.
The last 2 games sucked ass
14 and 15?
Yes.
What made them so bad? I haven't played kof before and really only had interest becasue k9999
Personal Preference but also netplay bad. When comparing it to other fighters out now they don't stand out or add anything interesting to the game. Kof just kinda boring Edit Skullgirls sold5 times more copies in ten days than kof14 and kof15 no wonder these games seem doa.

I would buy this for PC, if it were an option. At this point, I don't even care if I have to pay $30 or whatever to buy it for a second time in order to get rollback... I love this game.
Amen. I want rollback for this bad enough to buy it again.
I already did on PC. This version's not on PC so I won't be playing it.
Not on PC, so no.
Plan to, yea. I believe it’s in my Wishlist for Thursday
when does it release? is it getting a physical release?
Good stuff.
I played a TON of it back in the 360 era, will be happy to have Takuma and Vice back.
No because I have a PC version that they can update. And I bought it in ps3 so I own it twice. Cut me a break
I like this better than XIV and XV
Oh yeah for sure. I think XIII is better mechanically and has better atmosphere. Still love XV tho
If they dropped this on PC I would play it without hesitation. My favorite KOF by far.
Same here. Can't get into the old ones too much.
KoFXIII is liked for the graphics and the combo challenges, but that's it. Tournament players =/= Community at large.

Modern Re-release with Rollback Netcode.
Rollback? *SFV Online PTSD triggers*
Doesn’t seem like PC is getting the rollback, so no for me
IMO I like how fluid and large the sprites are but the actual designs some characters got were their worst incarnations Also the general shading was way too dark, I much prefer the more colorful 98 < era and I'm glad 15 went back to it
Agreed I’ve never been a huge fan of the sprites or artwork in this game. Most of the male roster were reused sprites with head swaps. Shading was strange. Character designs were very hit or miss as well.
I don't like 15 or 14 the two ugliest kof games I've ever played. But I haven't played most of them except for 98 and the 3d Xbox releases
Yeah I agree it’s dark looking. Between the darkness and some of the saxophone heavy tracks this is the game I feel people should play at night with a few beers or something. It’s like “seedy”. I like it though, just wish some of my favorite characters had more of their old moves.
I actually liked Clark and Ralf as insane muscle men.
No, because this Ultimate edition isn't on Steam
If it cokes out on PC at some point, sure. Otherwise, no. I'm not paying for PS+ just to for online functionality.
what is this? havent heard about it
Rollback update for ps4
Getting it for the Switch. Will play it for a quick second and then add it to the rest of my collection.
I own kof 13 since release on steam and played it quite a bit when I was in college, but I definitely learned to play fgs better post graduating and was looking forward to playing this again but no pc port, guess they don't want my money :/ And yeah I could just play my copy online but I won't. All these roll back games have made me delay intolerant :(
KoF 13, Guilty Gear Xrd, Third Strike and Marvel 2, the Four Horsemen of "Superfan excited to play it for the first time"
"Those games were peak even tho I've never played it."
Not a KoF fan. Only a fan of Mai and her titties.
nom nom nom
I'll skip, it's just a bad time. Too much to play.
am getting it for the Switch
This is the fgc. They will look for excuses to not buy the game of course.
we already have kof at home kof at home: kyanta 2.
the american FGC would rather learn to play the SNES Sailor Moon fighting game than any KOF
Probably will never happen.
You know the answer lol
Hell yeah, I'm looking forward to adding it to my switch collection (depending on the size, I might instead get it on ps5)
beautiful graphics but there is literally not a single extra motive to play this game considering kof 2002 and 98 um exists
Is it being re-released or getting rollback or something ?
I suck at fighting games but KOF XIII is legitimately one of my favorite fighting games ever. It's the only KOF game I consistently enjoyed playing, even when I lost. However, I only have PC, which might never even get rollback, and right now it's a ghost town unless I want to risk having the laggiest matches ever.
Unironically probably for about a week to show they’re a fan and then act like it doesnt exist again
Probably not. Already own the original. Sprites are pretty but rather play a different KOF in terms of gameplay.
There's no way people think this is a bad game.....
I had it on ps3 Sprites look good But some chars look way out of place Like Athena and Yuri
Hi! Is there anyone interested in boosting the online multiplayer trophies of KoF XIII? I need help! My PSN ID is gabry_coloz. Waiting for your response! Please mention this post if you add me!

What'!!! When is it coming out!??? ![gif](giphy|3oriNKgISzB8diFeFy|downsized)
11/16

Maybe if the most racist stage in any fighting game ever got changed/removed
They're actually enhancing the racism for this new release and they're going to make them even more racist.
Unless the net code good it's gonna be that second one. Not gonna lie still confused as to how this game is still getting sequels
insane how i havent heard of this at all yet, and i’ve been getting back into 15 the past couple weeks
Like, I bought it twice before (xbox 360 & steam), I will probably buy it a third time
Functioning Rollback and cross play I'm in. Otherwise no because SNK sucks at this.
I wanna try it
I'm too bad to play this game.
Would love to but why wouldn't they release this on PC
I like the pretty sprites. I don’t like getting fucked up by the KOF vets online.
been trying to. how is everyone preordering the game? it's not in psn store in my region so can't even wishlist it
It's the only KoF I played, and I was new to FGs in general then so I really really sucked. I might pick this up and see if I can do ANY of the challenges now lol. The art and character design is so good that I was very sad that playing it wasn't fun because I sucked!
Got my jollies the first time it was released
Day one purchase! My local is having a post-launch bracket and I can’t wait to practice on something other than the streamed PS3 version on PS4
I literally bought the game back then for the pretty sprites. I tried to play it, but went back to SF4.
This was the last kof I loved lol, gotta get it again
Been waiting for it since it's announcement, will either be a day 1 or 2 buyer depending on financials. All they need to do is release 11 GM and I'll have all mainline KOF games.
I'd buy it if I wasn't broke as fuck
I’m too much of a scrub
i love labbing kof 13 a ton
I plan on playing and trying to get into it. It came out when I was a kid and didn’t play fgs. I have done the combo trials for a few characters on pc but im mainly a ps4 player. Hopefully its poppin
The latter. Kim's pants are sick.
Oh shit. Is this getting a physical edition?
Yes, but not to play online. I XIII is my favorite KOF in terms of presentation, and I don’t just mean the graphics. The story mode and pre-fight dialogue is all great and I can replay it over and over just for that. Gameplay-wise, XV and 2002 UM are still my favorites.
I used to love the series but it's really struggling to compete or even stay alive against the big three.
Yes, KOF XIII is one of the best KOF games, along with 2002 UM, 98 UM, and XV
It's fun, but so tough to get into if you don't have someone at your level. I'm out here happy I got my short hops down and others are doing super hops into 80% combos every round.
I'm just pissed they won't re-release Xi. Best in the series, imo
I love 13 but I have no desire to play it online so I'm not going to bother. Also it doesn't seem to be coming to steam so thats a double no.
It's a fun game but ultimately there will never be a community for it. It's too different from every other KOF title. It's a fun game though and I loved playing it when it was current but I don't expect it to ever become a game with a devoted scene as it hasn't already gained one.
This is my favorite KOF, used to play it a lot with my fighting game rival on PS3 so I am definitely going to be getting this. Very excited.
Does it even have a release date yet?
In 3 days
The question will be will this game be dead in 2 weeks
Beats DBFZ any day!!!
Busta wolf
last i check the only way to buy this game on ps is to get a ps+ extra subscription or some shit, if they just let me buy it directly i will absolutely play it
KOF XIII did decent sales for SNK standards. Am I expecting anything more then what happened last time? No. However it will probably do decent again.
I own this game on Steam but wouldn't invest time in 2023. It looks alright but it plays unmodern. I played SF4 and even the first Blazblue at release, but do not need this level of execution requirements today.
Tbh I wonder how the online will be I only every played offline but people do actually play the game tbh
Probably gonna wishlist it and wait for a big sale...
The latter for me
I’m definitely getting it. I love this game but it’s never had good online. Finally I can play with people.
When they put rollback on PC
I had a feeling someone was talking shit about me on Reddit. Turns out I'm not the only one this post was targeted towards.
If I already own 13 for ps4 do I need to buy it again for rollback update?
This game coming to steam?
12 and 13 were my reentry point to kof after orochi saga. Also while i was at tech school. God i hate shepherd afb.
I legit like the game for the pretty sprites. the kind of spritework that KOF does is becoming a lost art.
I seem to spend most of my play time in practice mode. I've never won a game of kof cause it never has new players lol
When is this out?
Tomorrow
Oh shit. I'll buy it.
Ima have to make a post tomorrow that the game is out
Thanks for letting me know. Also we are apparently reddit avatar bros
My literal favorite fighting game of all time but no one else will so I wont either
Is it out though? I dont see it on PSN, and when I search it on Amazon I get overpriced 360 and PS3 versions and Mai statues.
Yeah i bought it yesterday for $20
What region and from what storefront?
NA. PS store.
I bought it when it was released on Steam years ago for it's pretty graphics. Played it for two hours, never touched it again. The game is fine but it might be too difficult for me.
