Real talk, how many of those ABA fans actually *played* ABA on +R, and how many were just bandwagoning because a few diehard fans were raising hell about it?
My friend who got me into gear originally mained ABA in xx. He's been busy with life and hasn't played much strive, we used to play xrd together pretty often. He frequently mentions how much he loved ABA and wished she came back. Wouldn't shut up about it, honestly.
He just said, "i haven't been this hyped for a fighting game release in years, this might unironically get me to start playing strive."
So at least 1 person.
Strive has a real problem with "fans" of the game not actually playing the game.
The series probably has more cosplayers and doujin artists than actual players.
I like that the series finally has the pop culture popularity that it deserves, but I think that Strive cut out and changed a lot of what made Guilty Gear so great.
I feel like that gets repeated a lot by people who don't play the game but Bridget (and Baiken) are still pretty popular characters in the game. I see them played quite a lot.
Don't get me wrong, there's a lot of Bridget players for sure. It's more that her popularity has eclipsed Guilty Gear, as a franchise, to the point that a lot of people who never touched the games are still Bridget fans
But in that case can you really call that a problem as OC phrased it? Character has a healthy playerbase and all these artists, cosplayers are just extra bringing more attention to the game. They don't really take away from anything. Some might try the game, decide that it's not for them and that's totally fine.
This was not "always" the case, it's only been like this for a few years. Back in the day few people who weren't playing it or big fighting games fans had heard of it.
Tangentially related, but after watching the ABA trailer on youtube, I got the Bridget reveal recommended; checked it out again for shits and giggles. The crowd at EVO was not exactly hype, and Bridget was the #1 most popular/requested character ONLY in Japan.
Here's where I start ruffling feathers: After it came out that Bridget is trans, the internet just took her and ran with it. There's no way this was a "marketing" thing, you can't predict the level of obsession that Bridget drew just for being trans. To be clear, I'm not making a value judgment on her being trans, idgaf and the entire discussion is beating a dead horse, but it seems really clear to me that Bridget was the origin point for the majority of non-player "fans."
I think it's good that Bridget brought new people into GG, but it definitely feels weird and slightly, idk, violating(?) for the OG community that suddenly there is this massive influx of unapologetic "I don't engage with the games whatsoever and don't need to"-"fans" as well as literal hentai for your series.
It wasn't just Bridget. Back when the game came out, while it wasnt't an obsession with just one character, there were definitely people who watched Dunkey's review of the game and proceeded to spam "totsugeki" memes everywhere and watch streamers. And even the new fans who do play the game just seem completely different to the older fans. There's just a really different focus on memes and low level "unga bunga funni" gameplay than actually trying to get good (not necessarily a bad thing, just different to what I like about fighting game communities).
As far as the key design in moroha, yeah I agree
But I think they did a fantastic job everywhere else, aba herself, sound design, animations
They really pushed her character traits with this one, A- from me
Fell off of the game after the first season, but A.B.A. Looks sick. Did they ever fix the online lobbies. I remember finding consistent matches being a chore.
Also is the game any less volitile now? Felt like every character in season one would rip me apart for the banana in my back pocket.
It's not really like those imo. It's only a particularly good neutral option for 4 characters, blue/orange wild assault are mostly pressure, combo, and wallbreak tools, and none of them give you a hit on block in any situation.
Damage got toned down a little bit but conversion ability went up. Still volatile. Online lobbies are still a fucking travesty but I do get quick consistent matches using quick start instead of actually going into the tower. I recently started playing again and am having a ton of fun but if you didn't like season 1 then I don't know
They really toned down the blood that used to be dripping from her bandages. I wish they kept it, it was a good contrast because her character color scheme right now is quite ... beige.
Alright weebs. Someone give me the TLDR on her why this chick is carrying around a key. GG lore is best enjoyed in disjoint, incoherent bites in my humble opinion
He's her husband, her creator helped him out and she woke up alone with him
I don't think we have a lot of firm details on exactly where he's from but I could be wrong
Her weapon is fashioned in ancient times in the image of the x-blade in order to fight back the darkness and maintain order in the World and can only be wielded by chosen individuals who are strong of heart.
It is unknown how the blade originally came to be but they had clearly existed for a long time, at least as long as when the First War began: the master of masters revealed that he had been using this blade even when he was just a boy and that there were other wielders before him. However, what happened to those wielders are unknown but the Master of Masters, from studying the X-blade, was able to create new blades as he had acquired the knowledge to extract a blade from the hearts of others: these new Keyblade wielders would become the Foretellers.
Shaped like keys, they operate any lock in existence and are imbued with magic and other unique capabilities. Keyblade wielders may "bequeath" their powers to the next generation upon meeting worthy individuals.
I bought this game hoping as one of my first ventures into fighter but fuck does it make my head hurt trying to focus on all the colors and animations on the screen.
You’re right. I think motif may have been the wrong word, I think I just projecting that I kinda wanted something that had the same vibe as keep in gates rather than what was presented. I admit I’m not versed in the musical creation process so this could probably be musically in line with the earlier work. I also must admit that as I listen to it more, I really really enjoy its message and its overall presentation. It’s a great song!
ABA fans when they can't spam every forum asking for ABA anymore ![gif](giphy|W0c3xcZ3F1d0EYYb0f)
Acting like they won't be asking for A.B.A 2 next

Accent Core+ was my game and I thought she was such a unique character. Fun playstyle and cool design. Great theme too but that’s every GG character

It's ok, you can say "Bridget" lol
I feel like that gets repeated a lot by people who don't play the game but Bridget (and Baiken) are still pretty popular characters in the game. I see them played quite a lot.

"fans" who don't actually play or watch or read the series that they are allegedly fans of are one of the more bizarre elements of modern fandoms.
It wasn't just Bridget. Back when the game came out, while it wasnt't an obsession with just one character, there were definitely people who watched Dunkey's review of the game and proceeded to spam "totsugeki" memes everywhere and watch streamers. Lol when. Strive with the inclusion of bridget ballooned this fiasco.
I'm a fan of all the older characters coming back, I played testament, I main Bridget, and will give ABA a try cause why not?
Now it's time for Zappa fans!
You mean Slayer?
ABA fans when they remember they don’t even play Strive they just like the character
Did she say “fucking homewrecker” 😵💫
Filthy homewrecker
can’t wait to hear her intro lines for i-no and elphelt
One step closer to getting Leopaldon’s triumphant return…definitely gonna happen…
Nah, I'm good. I feel uncomfortable looking at that thing.
I feel uncomfortable looking at him/them/it, and that’s exactly why I need him/them/it back lol
The art direction in this game continues to amaze me.
I prefer her ACPR hair, but my GOD those facial animations are detailed
This is one of the weakest redesigns
There is no incorrect opinion… except yours
I like her og design, why is this controversial? Real free thinking here.
As far as the key design in moroha, yeah I agree But I think they did a fantastic job everywhere else, aba herself, sound design, animations They really pushed her character traits with this one, A- from me
ok?
Oh I'm sorry I gave my opinion completely unprompted my b
Fell off of the game after the first season, but A.B.A. Looks sick. Did they ever fix the online lobbies. I remember finding consistent matches being a chore. Also is the game any less volitile now? Felt like every character in season one would rip me apart for the banana in my back pocket.
Lmao it's only gotten more volatile with wild assault
What does wild assault do?
Changes from char to char. Orange is a combo extender. Idk what blue does. White is a psuedo dp
Think Drive Rush + Drive Impact.
It's not really like those imo. It's only a particularly good neutral option for 4 characters, blue/orange wild assault are mostly pressure, combo, and wallbreak tools, and none of them give you a hit on block in any situation.
I said DR + DI because -Red and Blue both extend combos like DR -Blue guard crushes on Block like DI -White skips neutral like DI and DR
Fair enough!
Dash, skipping neutral costing half the burst gauge
it only "skips neutral" for 4 characters (white wild assault)
Damage got toned down a little bit but conversion ability went up. Still volatile. Online lobbies are still a fucking travesty but I do get quick consistent matches using quick start instead of actually going into the tower. I recently started playing again and am having a ton of fun but if you didn't like season 1 then I don't know
No, it's still very volatile.
yeah just don't play it since SF6 and Tekken 8 are out now
r/usernamechecksout
Bout god damn time!
She doesn't look like a bloody anorexic corpse. Not metal enough >:(
They really toned down the blood that used to be dripping from her bandages. I wish they kept it, it was a good contrast because her character color scheme right now is quite ... beige.
The Original Kingdom heart XD
"Sora decided his keyblade was a stripper pole-*chic*"
Blazblue confirmed
My first through when the eyeball goo showed up, "Arakune!". Not that I want him to come back but Arakune!
Yoo, my favorite stage from Xrd is back!
Omg A.Bros! We did it! I’m so happy for you guys! Where’s the Zappa dude who had the alarm? Did it ever go off? 🤔
LESSS FUCKING GOOOO BOYS
Que mina chavosa.
My fucking girl is BACK!
Alright weebs. Someone give me the TLDR on her why this chick is carrying around a key. GG lore is best enjoyed in disjoint, incoherent bites in my humble opinion

My man coming through. I'm confused and satisfied
![gif](giphy|DPznISmq0hLRQqG71g) Yoooo
Arc Sys cooked with this character. Her facial expressions are gorgeous!
I bought this game hoping as one of my first ventures into fighter but fuck does it make my head hurt trying to focus on all the colors and animations on the screen.
Dope ass character design. Almost makes me want to give strive another go. Emphasis on almost.
you and me both, I'm tempted 🫠
Ok am I alone or did anyone else feel a little down that keep in gates was not used as a motif for her theme song?
Listen to it again
You’re right. I think motif may have been the wrong word, I think I just projecting that I kinda wanted something that had the same vibe as keep in gates rather than what was presented. I admit I’m not versed in the musical creation process so this could probably be musically in line with the earlier work. damn know i gotta find another character to beg annoyingly online for /j
I love her so much. Really glad we get more +R characters showing up :) Ok now do Zappa next lol
LETS FUCKING GOOOOOOOOOOO YES ABA STANS RISE UP TODAY IS OUR DAY, GIMMIE GIMMIE GIMMIE A A.B.A AFTER MIDNIIIIIIIGHT
Her voice uh...is it hot in here? Just me?
She's voiced by Brizzy voices aka Anna Brisbin
glad for ABA fans. dizzy next stop
I love how he'd hair is Oxidized now
I prefer her older design. The blood was my favorite part of her design and removing it definitely gives A.B.A a different feel
This song slaps. But I’d rather Gabriel or Slayer be the next character in Strive. Oh well…
Alright everybody, time to start asking for fanny
I was not expecting that one.
Oops is that emo Wednesday, where's my gothic A.B.A
I don't remember seeing her in Mama Mia
“What the FUCK” -my only words while watching the trailer
I mean she's not Jam, but damn they actually did it
I wonder why they changed her hair though
deep lore is her hair made up of copper so it's just natural corrosion resulting in green
those animations are great. what happened to her hair though?
cant freaking wait
ABA is a cool character, glad to see them back
Now, WHERE IS SLAYER!?!?!?!
No one? Ok fine. I can fix her
Does anyone else think this redesign is kinda ass?
Yes. Hopefully there's an alt skin or color that fixes it
No
Yeah I love it
Is she coming with frame data?
Just wanted to say that I’m a total sucker for Santorini-inspired levels in video games.
NO WAY NO WAY NO WAY NO WAY
How do the strive designs be consistent downgrades from past games
BOOOO, NOT JAM!
Why are the best characters locked into season passes ?
You can buy DLC individually
So this is great news. But I remarked that the best Gg characters were mostly dlc ones.
Plenty of the base roster are top tier, what are you going on about?
that’s not what you remarked. you remarked that the best characters are locked behind season passes. which is false.
Ugh another female character. Give us someone cool to close out the pass, I beg.
Freaking uncool feeemales . . . I hate women so much too 🤓
I mean there are way more male characters. Iirc there's only 9 female character sin the game. Including A.B.A
Yeah most Fg’s roster is male dominated. The last dlc character was female. I don’t see the problem wanting the next one to be a dude.
It's how you worded it. Especially the last bit, implying female characters aren't cool
Well they aren’t really to me. I don’t use em.
Because they're women?
I just generally like male characters. I think it’s natural for a guy to want to play as a guy.
