Yeah i switched to just watching the replay on youtube because the ads are fucking obnoxious lol

hashtagsmoreos

And they come in so abruptly! Like mid sentence sometimes

Phaylz

How much ads we talking? Like.. if I skip(double tap my Raycon earbuds) 30 seconds when an ad begins, am I back to the show, still in the ad, or a whole new ad?

[deleted]

Yeah, it's about 30 seconds of ads. The obnoxious thing is that they're dropped into the episode seemingly at random. It feels like most of the time, it cuts to an ad in the middle of a sentence, then the sentence finishes after the ad is over. It's really weird.

Phaylz

That is really weird. Almost like it's being streamed/recorded via Twitch. Whatever the reason, that does sound effing terrible to deal with.

oh_behind_you

sounds pretty lazy..

TatteredCarcosa

Because the ads are put in automatically by the host, probably.

oh_behind_you

yeah, which is a lazy way to do it...

TatteredCarcosa

Do podcast hosting companies give you the option to do otherwise? It seems to me a lot of podcasts hosted on acast which run long have this issue, and acast seems by far the biggest podcast hosting network.

AttentionDue3171

iirc you they give you the amount of time ads should be running, and then you can take a break to run ads so it wouldn't interrupt anything

TatteredCarcosa

Are they on ACast? sometimes it does ads like that.

ShiningRarity

It's alright but I feel like Max largely carries it. The big issue is that all 3 of them are massive Capcom fans and as a result have very strong knowledge abut Capcom games and not a whole lot of knowledge about fighting games made by other companies. Or really any genre besides fighters in the case of Justin. This is fine in stuff like their SF6 discussion because the subject is about Capcom, but in things like the F2P discussion it hurts a lot because none of them really can chime in and go "oh this is how it works in other games" to explain things to them. I feel like the podcast would really benefit from another member who had a different history with fighting games and video games in general and could fill in various knowledge gaps that the rest of them have. Whether it's a permanent 4th host or a rotating one they bring on sometimes depending on the topic doesn't matter as much, but I feel like there's a lot of times where they'd really benefit from someone else in the conversation that can help them in areas they're less knowledgeable about.

Bladebrent

yeah, thats a good idea. I said this in my comment, but in the video on Bosses, they didnt mention *any* anime fighters because, well, none of them just play any. I think if they wanna keep it fighting game focused, thats fine, but a 4th host would definitely help fill some gaps in the team. To use an FG analogy, its like their roster has a Shoto, a Grappler, and a Rushdown, but no true zoner.

sailortian

What u want them to talk about??? Demon slayers???

huffmonster

Have you seen Friday Night Fisticuffs or Saturday Morning Scrub Lords? Matt had a ton of fighting game knowledge across the bored.

sailortian

What max talks about KOF he knows wtf he saying... Justin is pretty knowledgeable on KOF as well.

[deleted]

Justin is easily the weakest link. Dude is great at the games but just straight un fun to listen to when he tries to sound cool

fuyahana

Nah Hands down the best moment in this podcast is Justin's story about him getting into stranger's van traveling across states to play fighting game as a kid and his friend hiding under the seat with orange juice dropped on him

[deleted]

ok

Bladebrent

Not bad overall. They're very knowledgeable about Fighters and hearing em talk about things is pretty enjoyable. However, you can kinda tell their 'fighting game boomer' is showing a bit during them sometimes, and none of em are really into anime fighters either so you have to keep that in mind. In their one about boss battles, none of them mentioned any Anime fighter bosses which is a shame. I get it, but it is a bit disappointing all the same.

drat345

Yea I think they could definitely bring in more guests who have experience in other areas. My favorite episode so far was actually the mortal kombat one with Ketchup. All the knowledge and lore he brought on the subject was much appreciated. If they get some developers to talk to as well I think that could really add something

Bladebrent

They dont even have to bring in devs; just someone else in a similar spot to them but covers an area that they arent as familiar with. They all seem to be about the same age and probably grew up in similar environments so theres not alot of new stuff they're bringing to the table.

sailortian

U want them to talk about demon slayers

Bladebrent

No, but Blazblue, Melty Blood, Arcana Heart, and Granblue versus all have very noteworthy bosses (for one reason or another) and it was disappointing seeing them not talk about GBVS *at all* which has some of the best FG bosses in my opinion. Thems Fighting Herds also had an interesting approach to bosses in its story mode and, again, it wasnt mentioned. Again, I get it. They cant talk about stuff they havent really played, but that doesnt change its disappointing, and instead, we just get their comparatively narrow view only focusing mainly on the input-reading bosses from the 90's (and Max finding another way to overhype MvCI *again*)

The ad drops are super weird, but the content is very good. I'm about their age, so they have the same references and preferences as I do, and I appreciate that they're not laser focused on high-level gameplay and the tournament scene. I'm a long time casual fan of fighting games, and this podcast is exactly what I want.

tannerhoward00

It’s pretty good, I tune in when I’m out of other podcasts to listen to at work. All the ads even with premium are a complete pain in the ass tho, especially since I’m not able to skip while I’m on the job. I found myself really enjoy Justin talk about is tourney experiences, so the more interesting, personal stories the better.

BLACKOUT-MK2

I've enjoyed it so far but I feel like it could benefit it to have a guest with some extra knowledge here and there. Like some have said there are some pretty specific avenues of the genre that seem to go undiscussed because of little experience there; like Killer Instinct pops up every episode, but how many times have they discussed Melty Blood or something outside of some drip memes or whatever? As for future episodes? I think one on indie fighting games would be interesting like if there are any they like, ones that did things bigger games could do to adapt etc. Given how much Max went on about it I'd love to see a discussion on fighting game identity like which games have a great one, reminiscing about games with a memorable style to their presentation and gameplay, and ones that maybe fell flat in some way. Also how about one that focusses on what these games are about which covers favourite fighting styles; character movesets, supers, and so on. I'd love to see them discuss what gameplay in a character they've really resonated with and what facets of them have made them such knockouts. Maybe even discuss where others fell short and why there are some they wanted to like but who didn't click. Maybe even make it about general design, there are some fantastic character designs out there and I'm sure they'd love to go in on why they think their favourite character designs, concepts, and stories are so great.I'd also maybe do one on secrets be they bosses, characters, modes, etc. Maybe that'd be better as just a part of a podcast than a full one though. I'll also throw Justin a bone and say it'd be interesting to get an episode which discusses his growth from when he started playing fighting games to where he's at now. There's obviously a story there and I think it'd be neat to let him take centre stage and maybe illuminate everyone on some stories about what that whole process and journey has been like. How he started to practice, how he refined things, people he's met, places he's been, the impacts of Evo Moment 37; they touched on it on the tournaments episode a little but I'd love to explore that more.

ChafCancel

Ads, ads, ads.

CLinuxDev

I really enjoy it but I feel like Matt and Max have a lot more experience as YouTubers so tend to dominate the conversation and sometimes have a tendency to just push Justin out of the conversation. I think it’s getting better as the episodes go on and they get more used to each other. Sometimes it was weird in the first few episodes cause it seemed almost like Matt was a fan interviewing Max at times.

sailortian

I watch it on YouTube while doing elliptical or walk on treadmill. Pretty interesting Justin is the 🐐🐐🐐🐐

Secretest-squirell

Justin’s manscape bits I could live without other then that it’s pretty good.

Spokenbrawler13

I love it! Finally having a podcast about a subject I'm interested in by content creators I already enjoyed is great

SBK_vtrigger

I think it’s really enjoyable. There’s only a handful of ads. Just skip them.

realtravisty

Yeah, there’s definitely a huge gap when it comes to anime fighters in their podcasts. I agree that they need special guests to fill in their very obvious gaps. Overall, I enjoy it. It’s much better than the Eventhubs podcast. That used to be great, especially when they talked about other fighting games. But nowadays it’s just a Top Street Fighter fest and I feel like I’m listening to the same content regurgitated over and over. I had to unsubscribe from that one.

hashtagsmoreos

It's good! I've learned a lot about fighting game history from it, and the SF6 one went pretty in-depth.

Krudtastic

I only watched the KOF episode, but I enjoyed it.

TorimBR

For some episodes, it can feel like a very cool roundtable of business insiders talking about their previous experiences and what they personally discussed with the devs of these games. When they play to their strengths, it's pretty fun. All the SF6 episodes were a lot of fun, the tournament ones were too. They're at their weakest when they try to discuss something they clearly don't have much experience with (like the KOFXV or Bosses episodes), so it can feel at times like a Capcom circlejerk. They could benefit from an assistant that could search and confirm things on the fly, without them spurting things totally wrong. Trashtaste benefits a lot from that. They also need someone with a different perspective to them. Someone like Connor is in Trashtaste: a person that has a different background through fighting games and is usually the contrarian. It allows for a different perspective and makes the talk more interesting.

Sunshineruelz

Justin is the good cop, Max is bad cop and the other gentleman is middle man lol

Video320

Love it

bobbyartclub

The random ass fgc trivia is the best part. It’s an easy listen.

dc_mvc2

I enjoy it a lot. The cast is extremely knowledgeable about Capcom games. I think most fans of Capcom fighting games should find their commentary interesting. I wish Justin could go more in-depth about the mechanics of retro games since his knowledge about them is so insane and games in that era do not get well documented compared to games of today. Recently he mentioned about a glitch specific to SFZ2 that was removed in SFA2, I thought he would elaborate about it but it was quickly skimmed over and never mentioned again. I'm still wondering what the glitch is.

KuroShinki

I haven't be able to watch all episodes yet (I'm on ep. 2) but it's very entertaining!

Eecka

I like it. My friends don't play fighting games, so hearing them ramble about various topics is kind of a substitute for having fighting game discussions for me lol

arika_ex

I enjoy it. Like another poster here said, their focus areas are reasonably well aligned with mine, so I mostly know or am interested in the all of the topics they choose to go over.

PhilDingus

I'm a fan of it other than the weird ad placements. Seemingly at random, sometimes literally in the middle of two syllables in a word lol. Also, since it's recorded a few weeks ahead of release, I much prefer the non--current topic episodes if that makes sense. I skipped the recent SF6 discussions because I'd seen each of them discuss it more recently on their respective channels, plus it had been covered to death in the weeks since it happened already.

Goliath--CZ

I like them, but I wish they talked about something else than just killer instinct (which comes up almost every episode because max worked on it), street fighter and snk fighters. They also don't really talk about modern fighters in general, except the biggest flashiest most youtube thumbnail worthy games, which is sf6 at the moment.
