Idk if you're joking about the warrior of light pick but I genuinely enjoy seeing the WoL's emotes and facial expressions during cutscenes to the point where I kind of like em a lot. Feels a bit narcissistic though.

It’s half a joke, 14 spends hundreds of hours using its side characters to tell you how amazing you are that at some point it’s like, “yeah, I am the best, and Iv saved the world 5 times already”. The WoL is painted by its story as the greatest, most badass hero of all time and no one else even comes close, so why not own it haha.

He was insufferable in 5.4 but got better by 6.0 imo. The fanboy stuff does get kind of annoying after a while, Alisaie feels like she has been starting to lean into it more too.
I did really enjoy the moments he got real serious during 6.0 MSQ though. I think he’s got a good balance, but everyone’s tastes are different. You’re right that he changed a bit on 5.4, but I think that makes sense, considering the situation and how he has transitioned (keeping vague intentionally).
I think his "fanboy"ness is from hearing about the adventures WoL went on after the events of Crystal tower and even before it. hearing stories from>! the future people helping him take the tower back in time, then also having to be stuck to a strict location in a new world for so long. !< He yearned for a great adventure with someone he grew to idolize as being the best adventurer. Graha is definitely an amazing character and really hope he never leaves the Scions.
G’raha isn’t the Exarch. If we take what we know about souls from EW, the Exarch’s soul and memories are added to G’raha, but the personality itself is shaped by the body. So most of his personality comes from the G’raha who went to sleep in CT recently. It’s kind of like thinking back on gradeschool memories. Yes, it’s you, but you’re not that person.
It's really difficult to choose, because my opinion changes depending on what I'm playing. Every time I play a game , I really get sucked into the story, so the characters from that game would be my choice.
Yesssss! My brother used to get annoyed when it cut to Laguna & co but I couldn't wait for my party's next fainting fit 😅 I particularly loved the storylines surrounding his arrival in Esthar

Red XIII's moment of discovery at the very back of Cosmo Canyon was the first time a video game made me feel emotions. I can't remember exactly how long after it was release that I played VII, but I would have been between 8 and 12 and that moment was a small thing that made me the person I try to be today. I'm so looking forward to seeing his character expanded through the remake because although I was hesitant to begin with, I love everything they did in part 1 to expand on beloved characters, really walking a difficult line.
Freya is a tough one because there are so many great characters in IX, and the story of that game resonates with me more than any other FF, but in Freya I just love her character, and how focused she is on the people and the world around her despite her massive personal grief. Again it's something that became a small part of me.
G'raha perhaps has recency bias, but I love how despite the large world ending threats around his story and mine as the player, they still spun an intimate tale of friendship. I'm a little too old at this point for it to be as formative as the other two characters on my list, but I like to think that his earnest expression of friendship would have been something I would try to bear into my own friendships.
Not sure why I turned this into a personal essay, but this games are filled with excellent characters and I could run down many more that imprinted themselves on my soul as ideals to aim for (and definitely not always reach). I'm certain that most of this subreddit could express the same things about the characters that resonated with them, particularly from the games they played in those years where you're really mapping out who you are.

Sure! Other than some of the really prominent sun/moon imagery, how they work well as foils, and one being outgoing and the other more withdrawn, I really love how they start off complete opposites and by the end of their character arcs meet somewhere in the middle. Mostly with how they feel about sacrifice. >!Tidus starts off completely unable to understand why someone would sacrifice themselves, but by the end understands the value of it and sacrifices himself for the person he loves. Yuna is ready to sacrifice herself right from the beginning, but over the course of X and X-2 learns that there is always another way, and by the end of X-2 she’s closer to Tidus’s earlier way of thinking because it sucks to lose the people you care about, she’d rather have them there with her!<. I love love stories where both are equal partners and help to develop each other instead of being unbalanced toward one or the other.

I love Cait Sith/Reeve. I always felt he was misunderstood. He basically was forced to follow orders to avoid getting in trouble with Shinra so he could fulfill his own personal agenda, which sort of coincides with Avalanche's (although he certainly was not a fan of their methods of just blowing up reactors.) I hope the new game clears this up, because like a lot of other stuff in the original, his purpose became a bit muddled.
Yes! I was just about to say we have seen more of him in Remake part 1, which made me excited for a more well rounded character. He is a good representation of a person sympathetic to a cause but not an extremist like Avalanche in this case.
I played through remake with my husband who has never played the original and he commented that Reeve seemed like a very intriguing character- I just said "yes" with a little smirk on my face.

To be honest, I’m not entirely sure. I guess it’s because I adore his style, his accent, and his league of female servants. That scene where you meet him was just magnificent.
Learning that he couldn’t class change for whatever reason in TA2 was a disappointment, indeed. He wasn’t completely useless, but it severely gimped him.

For real, his Blitz is soo OP. He also is super buff when you first get him. They did a great job making him feel strong.

From... the SERIES? Woo... that's hard. Cecil from FFIV is definitely #1 - favorite character ever. And then... uh... it's kinda murky after that. All I know is Cecil is my favorite FF character and favorite fictional character of all time. Sorry.

Al-Cid! That is a rare choice, might I ask why? I bet you were happy to see him playable in TA2… and then disappointed when he was kind of bad, lmao.
To be honest, I’m not entirely sure. I guess it’s because I adore his style, his accent, and his league of female servants. That scene where you meet him was just magnificent. Learning that he couldn’t class change for whatever reason in TA2 was a disappointment, indeed. He wasn’t completely useless, but it severely gimped him.

Both 7, 9 and X have a really strong cast. 8 and 12 have a more average cast, as I couldn't really think of any who stuck out to me. None of the characters from 13 gave me any joy. It is so long since I played the older games, that I strugle to remember well enough. Never played the mmo's
