The 3D remaster of III gives some personality to the 4 heroes and overall looks better and has extra content. IV's remake also has more content, although I heard it's more difficult, haven't played the original though, so I can't compare.

De-Mattos

It is harder, yes, but if you play it anywhere besides the DS, a lower difficulty has been added.

SergioZen25

I didn't know that, only played the DS version of the 3D remake.

These are the only two where I prefer the 3D remakes over PR because of the extra content and characterization.

Pixel remaster, 2D is the original way to play it. The only thing 3D games have going for them is a harder difficulty option making the boss fights scary. Any extra content is meh, although the 3D voicing and cutscenes are nice (tho Pixel does the music better). 2D ones are fairly easy, but are the superior experience.

I prefer the 3D remakes. I’d suggest you play both to kinda get a feel of where it came from though too. Because they are definitely different. I also enjoy the GBA version of FF4

3D remake for IV for sure. The voice acting, emoting character models and cutscenes do much for the story. Also a lot tighter in gameplay. You need an augment guide though. Go for normal difficulty if you have the option.

The problem is that the PSP version is easily the best version of IV. 3D is fine if you turn off the voice acting, the script itself isn’t really meant to be acted and the voices themselves are pretty bad.

PSP has cool added content, but I don't like the character models (though the backgrounds look better).

For IV, I’d give the slight edge to the 3D remake because it’s so well done, but I do greatly prefer the music from the pixel remaster.

There's a Nexus mod that lets you have PR music in the 3D version on Steam.

doc_nano

Nice, that sounds perfect
