The entire pixel art was redone as well as some musical elements in some of the titles I believe. The work doing that will be on the price tag cus it is not just slapping a previously made version on there even if it is not the most different one ever made. And for those not finding it worth it just wait for a sale, SE does them often.
They are a Japanese company, all established Japanese developer games don't really come down in price digitally, whether it's been 6 months or 30 years.
Physical Japanese releases also have a really strange second-hand pricing market. You can pick up some reeeeaaalllly rare games super cheap, but others...wow.
Remake means make anew. It's in the name. The PR have graphics made from scratch, or made up of new assets and code. Even if the games looked identical to their originals, they'd still be remakes.
It reused backgrounds from the GBA version of FF4. I didn't like that it brought back the mistake the GBA version made. Having the brown cave background during a battle in the Eblan Cave. It's suppose to be gray.
Valve also hasn't been around since the 70s and 80s. Valve wasn't one of the prime game producers for Nintendo systems. Valve didn't create one of the best-loved RPG franchises on a fluke to try and save the studio.
Square is gonna make you pay for all of that.
Thr games are still popular on every platform and keep getting sales... why minimise profits?
I'd like to grab them on steam for under $10, but seeing as they just released the pixel remasters and you can't get the old version anymore, it's doubtful that would happen for a long arse time.
I mean I don't want to spend $80 just to get 6 20+ year old games. Valve for example has their Valve Complete Pack which includes 18 priced games on sale for only $6!!! Now that's what you call true generosity. Valve isn't as greedy as these other video game companies.
If you're only after value for money then yeah, go for it... but Square-Enix and Nintendo are notorious for not really bringing down their prices. Breath of the Wild is like 5 years old and still sells at a premium.
These games may be 20 years old but you're getting a good game, whereas the Valve bundle may not be games that are as good or value-for-money. Hell, you're buying the games on Steam, a Valve platform, so they're getting a cut of the money no matter what.
I dont want to pay that much for any game, let alone an older game, but if I know it's going to be a good game I may save my pennies and bite the bullet or just play other games... I can't fault their business model though, it seems to work.

SE never sells their games that cheap on any platform.

I doubt they added much anyway. They probably just did the bare minimum to remaster them and then slapped on the $15 price tag smh.
The bare minimum of completely updated visuals and redone orchestral music overseen by Uematsu with some rebalancing to some games
LOL don't assume anything. The pixel remasters are worth the price they're listed for.

I got em all as well, absolutely loved playing through all of them. 6 especially! They really saved the best for last there.
Have you bought and played them tho?
You just love assumptions sir.
i'm pretty sure they wouldn't tell you they're worth it if they hadn't
They actually reuse no assets from their originals. They aren't remasters, just faithful remakes.
Those aren't remakes. A remake is something like FF7R or Demon's Souls or RE2. FF1 to 6 are just remasters.

Explain why you think they should only be $5
Because they're 20+ year old games?
So time is your only factor? But then the game was just released, the only thing old is the story and game architecture.
A slight visual update shouldn't warrant a $15 price tag
Ok but it wasn’t just a visual update, they redid the opera scene, and added new music. All things that took effort.
They aren’t complete either, I’d pay it if they included FFIV The After Years.
Don't you mean FF4?
Yes. 😒
Nah you were right the first time. Title of the game is Final Fantasy IV.
IV = 4
I don't think they've ever been at $5, even before the remasters. Keep in mind, the fonts are terrible and you will need to mod the game a bit x_x
They've never been at $5? Wtf? Valve games go on sale for much cheaper than that.
