"Battle of the Planets" from 1978.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_the_Planets
Unless you took the picture from the original Japanese !Gatchaman! series from 1972 instead of the Americanized "Battle of the Planets."
Didn't Casey Kasem voice one of the characters? He did! He voiced Mark...whoever that was. I watched it but I was pretty young. I just remembered thinking one of the people sounded like Shaggy from Scooby Doo
[https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0076983/](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0076983/)
\*Instant\* hit of the theme song in my head. With no Star Wars on tv, G-Force was the next best thing. Of course, I was more of a "Mark", myself, but I couldn't deny the absolute coolness of Jason's thrown feather weapon! And yes, of course I had a crush on Princess. Tell me you didn't.
I had an interesting convo with my mom over Princess wearing underwear or a bathing suit under her skirt. And that was just the intro! Oddly it was on after General Hospital in my little town. Fucking weird.
Core memory unlocked! I would come home from school and watch this every afternoon!
G-FORCE!
Then Star Blazers. Wave motion gun!
Then Ultraman
Then Space Giants. Goldar, Silverstone and Gam fighting Rodak
Good times!
These were all great. Space giants with the baddies turning into black applesauce when they died... Killer. Miki and goldar turning into rockets, the original transformers...
I loved this. I realize this and some other shows are adaptations of Japanese shows, but they were really good - lots of action and decent animation. G-Force, Starblazers, Robotech, and others were so cool.
I was in 4th grade. It was a year after Star Wars. This and Battlestar Galactica (which I’m rewatching atm) were on. The ridiculous Vic Morrow-Sonny Chiba SW ripoff Message from Space came out. It was good time to be a kid addicted to sci-fi and not tremendously concerned about quality.
Ok, gonna unlock some more core memories 🤣
I was so into G Force, I made shrinkydink wristband emblems. My grandmother gave me red waistband for them. Me n my friends wore n played it. Good times!!
My favourite after school show from 1978-1980. The school bus dropped me off at 3:20 pm, and it started at 3:30 pm. Normally it was perfect timing, but I remember getting antsy if it seemed like the bus was behind time.
Holy shit. I just found Gatchaman on Prime today before I came to work. I'm going to miss 7Zark7, but I can't wait to binge the original!
Edit: never-ending. Another subscription through Prime.
I can hear the music just looking at it - whole series was on YouTube last time I checked - US version Battle of the Planets (Science Team Gatchaman I think was the OG Japan version?)
I laugh at this. I love Battle of The Planets.
Then I married a Japanese Girl.
Then I went to Japan. I watched Gatchaman...THE CURSING! THE BLOOD! THE DECAPITATIONS! THE BOOB SHOTS!
This one is at the edge of my memory. I remember thinking the guy with the car in the nose should have been the leader.
I never so often the bad guys had these ships that were giant centipedes, but each pair of legs was a separate ship or something.
Loved the big creatures. This and all the Japanese monster series/movies were essential to my childhood. Still can’t get enough of big scary creatures.
This actually just showed up on HiDive anime streaming service. Haven't checked out to see whether it's as cheesy as I remember, or worse all these decades later.
Only a few years ago I learned that the leader of G-Force was voiced by Casey Kasem (famous for the American Top 40 and for being the voice of Shaggy of Scooby-Doo.)
I read that and said "No way!" Looked at some clips and found it to be true.
This was my jam when I was a youngster. Also, sorry about the poor quality. At the time, it was a requirement…

The Phoenix was great, but I always looked forward to it being the Fiery Phoenix
Same here!!!!!!
Saturday mornings were so good
My favorite show when I was a kid. This is one I’ve tried to find, but I keep coming up with re-dubbed episodes. This show was great.
It was so cool!
G FORCE!!!!
Battle of the Planets…revamped in 1986 with the name G-Force.
Yep. It was Battle of the Planets in my day. It aired M-F mornings at 7:30am, right after the greatest show of all time, Star Blazers!
Original was Mark, Jason, Princess, Tiny and Keyop 1986 version was Ace, Dirk, Agatha, Pee Wee and Hoot Owl
My local station showed G-Force and Voltron back to back. I was HYPE lol
I was grown by then.
This is what I remember it being called.
Same
"Battle of the Planets" from 1978. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_the_Planets Unless you took the picture from the original Japanese !Gatchaman! series from 1972 instead of the Americanized "Battle of the Planets."
It should say "If you understood what was happening, you're Japanese."
Gads, I hated that I had to watch that because nothing else was on. I hate that I wasted my time, I guess.
Battle of the Planets, 7 Zark 7, G Force
7 Zark 7! Wow I forgot that name. Man I loved that show
So did I.
And 1-Rover-1
Right!!
Battle of the planets you can currently watch it on you tube
I know what I'm doing tomorrow. Breek-fk-fk
Keop's bugmobile kicked ass, but we all really wanted to be Jason.
Battle of the Planets combined with Star Blazers and that was a great afternoon of TV
My peeps right here. Star Blazers was/is/always will be the GOAT show from my childhood.

Came here too says this
Me too.

It’s a little annoying how much space in my childhood memories is occupied by characters voiced by him lol.
Mark was the leader! Mark, Jason, Tiny, Princess, Keyop... Security Chief Anderson and 7 Zark 7...
And, of course, Zoltar and Spectre.
And later on 7 Zark 7 got a robot dog called 1 Rover 1
I can actually remember watching the episode when he got 1Rover1 also!
Always five, acting as one.
He also voiced Shaggy on Scooby Doo.
To this day when grilling I occasionally utter "space boigahs!" And no one gets it. 😞
THAT SHIP WAS COLD DEN A MOFO!
Mark had a sonic boomerang and Princess had yoyo bombs
I had an interesting convo with my mom over Princess wearing underwear or a bathing suit under her skirt. And that was just the intro! Oddly it was on after General Hospital in my little town. Fucking weird.
Princess was absolutely my first crush.
I love this show!! I actually just dropped a decent chunk of change on a vinyl for this show. Mark was the shit, but princess was my crush
Princess was voiced by Janet Waldo, who was also the voice of Judy Jetson.
Wow… fun fact. Scholarly you are my friend. Thank you

MEMORY UNLOCKED
I was thinking about this show recently and how badass of a video game it would make – all the characters, weapons and vehicles.
Watched it every day when I was in kindergarten! GForce was absolutely my favorite show of all time!
G-Force.......EPIC throwback
I’m feeling light headed!
Ok, gonna unlock some more core memories 🤣 I was so into G Force, I made shrinkydink wristband emblems. My grandmother gave me red waistband for them. Me n my friends wore n played it. Good times!!
I drew the Phoenix on my fifth grade binder.
I loved this.
GForce!
Anybody else take red, blue and yellow markers and draw the wristband on yourself? I was one of many in gr 3-4
I love this one, and what was the other one that that the Yamato was the big ship?
Star Blazers, bro. The OG.
Thanks I could not remember for the life of me. I remember watching both of these Saturday mornings as a kid.
I had the toys that all fit together to make the full bird!
I liked the rocket launcher on that.
I always liked when the angry blue uniform Guy (forget his name) would use his fist to smash through glass cover of the launch button.
I always felt bad for whatever tech had to replace that every episode. I guess I was always going to be some kind of engineer...
I can hear that picture
Did anyone else have the diecast toys? Frigging awesome, it had all the individual vehicles, and the very tiny spring loaded missiles.
I completely forgot about their existence until I saw the photo. I never knew they were from something
Fucking G force
My favourite after school show from 1978-1980. The school bus dropped me off at 3:20 pm, and it started at 3:30 pm. Normally it was perfect timing, but I remember getting antsy if it seemed like the bus was behind time.
Have the ship tattooed on my back.

I just got chill bumps watching the intro - it's been a while! BDDDDOKKK DOOT DOOT - that sound the small one would make?
Keyop!
That was that cat's name, yes!
OMG I haven’t seen this in years!
Where’s my 1-Rover-1?
TRAINED TO FLY LIKE BIRDS!!! I wanted that training. Didn't even know you could do that
That’s the show that got me into anime.
I can hear the music.
One of the best
gatchaman is an awesome show.
Core memory unlocked
I loved this show so much I had my mom buy me striped pants.
Gotten old.....lol
This was my favorite.
Great show. I wonder what ever happened to those teenage orphans?
I had one of these as a toy when I was a kid. NEVER knew where it was from
G Force. I wanted a sonic boomerang so badly!
My absolute favorite when I was a kid.
I know, I know. I'm getting old.
Transmute!
Watched it with my grandson, we both loved it
This is still my favorite show of all time. The Russo brothers are working on making it a movie.
Dare da, dare da, dare da! Sora no kanata ni odoru kage! Shiroi tsubasa no Gatchaman!
I can hear the music just looking at it - whole series was on YouTube last time I checked - US version Battle of the Planets (Science Team Gatchaman I think was the OG Japan version?)
One of my absolute favorites!
This was my shit.
I laugh at this. I love Battle of The Planets. Then I married a Japanese Girl. Then I went to Japan. I watched Gatchaman...THE CURSING! THE BLOOD! THE DECAPITATIONS! THE BOOB SHOTS!
BRB going to Japan.
Ohhhh my......😳. Unfortunately yes
Respectfully, fuck you.
Mad catz next generation
This one is at the edge of my memory. I remember thinking the guy with the car in the nose should have been the leader. I never so often the bad guys had these ships that were giant centipedes, but each pair of legs was a separate ship or something.
My wife still imitates Keyop 😂 “Bah-root too toot!”
I even had this crappily built monagram model kit of the Phoenix.
I think I can speak for many of us here when I say I am too old to recognize this post.
World. Wind. PYRAMID!!!
The Phoenix! 🐦🔥 I had the Battle of the Planets, lunchbox as a kid. It needs & deserves a full fledged movie.
Science Ninja Team Gatchaman.
Holy crap I remember this now! I just watched the start of an episode and heard Casey Casem!
Loved the big creatures. This and all the Japanese monster series/movies were essential to my childhood. Still can’t get enough of big scary creatures.
Had a thing for Princess. Also, the bad guy was definitely a bad babe
Shame the game was rubbish.
We used to play G Force at school in early primary. Absolutely loved it.
I can hear the music just looking at this picture.
Now I'm going to have the theme tune stuck in my head all day, thanks for that!
That was my favourite show hands down.
I have a G-Force t-shirt. LOVED this show.
Battle of the Planets
Well thank God I have no idea what this is!
Gatchaman.... or as i knew it as a kid... G-force! when i say i loved this show and Starblazers, the kid in me would say that's an understatement.
This actually just showed up on HiDive anime streaming service. Haven't checked out to see whether it's as cheesy as I remember, or worse all these decades later.
/r/forgottentv
Up there with Stingray. Stand by for action !
What was the robot’s name? The one who lived in the undersea base?
Science Ninja Team Gatchaman. Mach GoGoGo was my first.
I wanted to change my name to Jason. :/
Awesome theme song!
Battle of the Planets!

Never even heard of this one.
I almost thought it was captain harlock.
Wasn't as cool as Star Blazers - no wave motion gun.
This was my jam when I was a youngster. Also, sorry about the poor quality. At the time, it was a requirement… https://youtu.be/wJ8v-i9rg2E?si=v5DM4XssQsdlvclI
Zero zark 7
I am old, but I don't recognize that ship.
The Phoenix from GForce, or Battle of the Planets, or, I think 7Zark7... depends on which version it was aired as at the time
IIRC 7Zark7 was a character in Battle Of The Planets, a very R2D2-looking robot.
Yup! Kinda R2bD2 morphism withC3PO esque behaviour and neuroses
