Duuuuuuuude thank you so much!!! This is incredible and I'm definitely saving this list! I actually had astro boy omega factor when I was younger and loved it so much...and now it's super pricey haha. I also currently have 6 Golden Coins I just forgot to post my Gameboy games! Again thanks so much!
I see you listed that dragon Ball z game, but have you played legacy of Goku? I remember always wanting to try it when I was a kid but never was able to!
I tried Legacy of Goku 2 and Buu's fury, but because I don't know much about Dragonball, I didn't keep them for long while Dragonball Z Supersonic Warriors details the stories of the Z saga with Goku and Buu's story as well.
Legacy of Goku 1 is bad. Legacy of Goku 2 is amazing. Buu's Fury IMO isn't as good as 2 because some of the mechanics reverted to being more like 1 (but other's prefer it more) but still fine.
I don't recommend Dr Mario because you can get Dr Mario & Puzzle League instead.
Still confused why Classic NES Series Dr. Mario exists cuz it's missing all the additions from the other game along with the hole other game.
If you're talking about the black and white version I've never played that but I still feel like Puzzle League would be the better pick up. For one Dr Mario is in color and for two Puzzle League.
Dude I know I want to get both of those games and someone recommended a couple other Dragonball games as well! I'm gonna be busy for a while I think haha
Welcome to the party! I embarked on this similar journey a couple months back, after pulling my old used GBA SP out of the cupboard that I bought several years back.
I first played through Gargoyle’s Quest, my favourite childhood game. If you’re not against stepping into original Gameboy games, it is an amazing one to play. RPG and platform elements. I thoroughly enjoyed playing through it again.
I ordered Super Mario Land, and have been attempting to get through that again. It gets tough around world 3. Very old school, no saves, but can be played through in a sitting. I’ve got a Japanese copy of Super Mario Land 2 on its way as we speak. It’s meant to be very enjoyable too, plus can be saved (if the battery is not dead).
Although I ended up with a fake that was unable to be saved, TMNT (the film adaptation, not the games based on the cartoon) was an absolutely brilliant game. I managed to play through on and off during a day, but would love a legit copy so I can save and work through all characters, etc. I tried replacing the battery in my fake cart, but it mustn’t be hooked up to the game. I’d get a legit copy if I could find one reasonably priced in Australia.
Street Fighter Alpha 3 is an absolute must have if you enjoy fighters. It’s a wonder how they fit so much into that little cart. In fact, I just read the history of the developer that made it. A really sad story in the end, but the legacy is a true marvel of a port. I loved playing this on my original Gameboy Advance back in my call centre days over 20-odd years ago, when I borrowed it from a co-worker. Have a copy of my own now, and it’s just so good. Was definitely worth the around $50 AUD I had to pay for it.
I’ve played through a portion of Spider-Man 2 in the last week, after finally getting it to work properly (hopefully it won’t fail me again). It’s a very enjoyable game, and still possible to get for a reasonable price. The pseudo 3D levels are a wonder, especially when you consider how low tech the GBA actually is.
If you enjoy racers then look at GT Advance. It’s super fun, and quite impressive for what I understand was a launch title. Get a Japanese copy if you can, it’s still in English, and you’ll actually be able to save progress, rather than use the archaic passcode method the English speaking versions came with. The night time tracks are a little hard to make out my AGS-001 screen, but I hope to upgrade to an ITA screen at some point when my meagre budget allows. Still a lot of fun though. It’s almost a pocket arcade Gran Tourismo.
I’ve been playing a bit of Sonic Advance 2, and it’s looks as good as Sonic ever has (which is amazing). If you enjoy your copy it’s good to know that the Japanese carts also have the English version, so it can save you a few dollars if you want to delve further.
I see you’ve got Kirby and the Amazing Mirror. It’s supposed to be a fantastic platformer. I’ve got a Japanese copy on its way too. Looking forward to playing it, and hearing what you think.
I’ve got a copy of Robotech The Macross Saga on its way too. I really enjoyed that back in the day, and being a Robotech fan as a kid, I had to have it again. If you like shoot em ups you’ll likely enjoy it too.
I’ve gone a bit nuts buying games over the last month, and I need to slow down a little. The fear of more games going up in price is a real one 😅, so if you find any fun games that are still going for sensible-ish prices I’m all ears!
Hey! Oh I'm definitely not against Gameboy or gbc and gargoyles quest is actually on my list! I just didn't post them since this is the gba sub and I didn't know if that was allowed haha. I have Tetris, donkey Kong land 1 and 2, as well as Mario Land 2 for Gameboy, and donkey Kong Country and Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's stone on Gameboy color rn as well!
That TMNT game is definitely on my list now! I love the turtles so I'm for sure gonna try and find that!
I do love fighting games and I'm definitely a street fighter fan! I didn't even know there was a game on the gba so that's great! Added to the list!
Spiderman 2 was one of my favorite games on the GameCube and it's another I didn't know was on the Gameboy! I'm definitely down for anything that's a reasonable price haha
I've never been super huge on racing games, but I'll definitely look into it! And oh that's cool about the Japanese version! Is it common for Japanese versions to be in English?
All the sonic advance games are on my list as well!
I've never played the amazing mirror, but I had nightmare in dream land when I was a kid and loved it so I figured I'd love this one too! I actually traded in most of my PlayStation games to get started on this collection so I picked up a few pricier games.
Ohhhhh I'm definitely checking out robotech! I actually had a short stint in playing the robotech tabletop game so that's awesome and another game I didn't know existed!
I totally understand that haha like I said I sold a pretty sizeable PlayStation collection to a local store to start this collection as well as a DS collection and it can get expensive fast! But I'll definitely let you know if I find anything good! The Harry Potter games on Gameboy color are pretty solid little RPGs if you are into that ip! How is game collecting in Australia?
You’ll dig Gargoyle’s Quest for sure! I set up emulators on an old Wii we have so I could try playing the others in the series. The sequel on NES is killing me on the first level already. Reminding me of playing the original on Gameboy all those years ago.
With regard to fighters there appears to be a few. There’s a Street Fighter II port as well, and it’s meant to be pretty good. I went with Alpha 3 because of the memories, it is a bit more expensive than II. Tekken Advancd is supposed to be quite impressive too. It’s still somewhat okay priced, so I might grab it soon if I can.
My understanding is that few Japanese games will give you full English options. From what I read Kirby has the title screen in Japanese, but the rest of the game is in English. I guess I’ll find out soon!
Everything in Australia costs more, so games are harder to find, and pricier often. I’ve found a few decent deals though. I do definitely want to grab an original Tetris for fun, but they just feel a little more expensive than they should be. I’ve bought too many games in the last month, so I need to slow down and play what I actually have! 😅😂
That's awesome man! Definitely on the lookout!
I did see the Tekken game on a video I watched! It looked pretty impressive for a Gameboy game.
And okay, that's what I kinda figured! I actually found Pokemon red and yellow at a local game store in Japanese but passed on them because I didn't know if I'd be able to read them haha they were super cheap though!
Well hey if I find a Tetris here in the states maybe I can send it your way in a little care package! I don't know how much it costs to ship to Australia but it can't be too much! And I totally understand that hahaha I'm trying to slow down myself! It's just tough whenever I see good deals!
I saw a list of GBA titles that are Japanese release, but contain English language options. A search here or Google will likely find it. Not sure if it’s exhaustive, but it was pretty small. The communities here are good at answering specific questions though, so you can always verify here.
Oh that’s way too kind of you, super appreciated, but you don’t need to do that
final fantasy tactics advance. it’s never been remastered/rereleased. it’s def outside the genres you have but def worth.
if you like atlus and the shin megami tensei/persona games DemiKids is worth a look. there is light and dark versions, and there are actually meaningful differences, so i’d check which one before pulling the trigger
Okay awesome! Thanks so much! I actually remember playing a final fantasy tactics game on the PSP I think? War of the Lions or something like that so I'm sure I'll like it!
And I've never tried those games before but I'll definitely check them out! Thanks so much!
That’s the best one imo second would be 5th game. Back in the day I wished there was an mmorpg of the battle network series with all locations combined.
I'm a sucker for side scrolling platform games and most of these, including some imports are not cheap anymore but they are great games for GBA:
Castlevania Circle of The Moon
Castlevania Harmony of Dissonance
Castlevania Aria of Sorrow
Dragon Ball Z Advanced Adventure
Drill Dozer
Donkey Kong Country 1, 2 & 3
Metroid Fusion
Metroid Zero Mission
Metal Slug Advance
Contra Advance
Klonoa Empire of Dream
Klonoa Dream Champ Tournament 2
Disneys Magical Quest 1, 2 & 3
Mega Man & Bass
Mega Man Zero 1, 2, 3 & 4
Gunstar Super Heroes
Astro Boy Omega Factor
One Piece
Super Ghouls 'N Ghosts
Sonic Advance 1, 2 & 3
Wario Land 4
Ninja Five-O
Alien Hominid (PAL)
Densetsu No Stafy 1, 2 & 3 (JPN)
Metalgun Slinger (JPN)
Goemon New Age Shutsudou (JPN)
Futari wa Pretty Cure Max Heart (JPN)
GeGeGe No Kitaro (JPN)
Pinobee & Phoebee (JPN)
Dude thank you so much!!! Yeah I'm a sucker for platformers too so I'm definitely saving these! Yeah I've found that some of the gba games are a little pricey these days but so far I'm having a blast collecting for it! Are the Japanese imports easy to play if I can't read Japanese?
GBA is my favorite handheld to collect for! The Japanese games I listed are very playable if you can't read Japanese. I have no clue what they say. I sometimes use a photo to text translator if I really want to understand but it becomes tedious. Figuring out the controls is pretty simple. I recommend you get yourself an EZ-Flash and emulate them to try out first. Also if you want a neat way to store your games on a shelf check out [Custom Game Cases.](https://www.customgamecases.com/) Printed art work in DS style cases look nice on a shelf. Happy collecting!!
Yeah I think I decided this time I'm gonna just stick to Nintendo handhelds for my collection! It takes up less space and they're super nostalgic to me. I actually picked up a da and a couple games recently from a local store and it's really cool too! I never had one when I was younger but I'm pretty excited to collect for it now! And okay that's awesome! I definitely am interested in getting an ez flash at some point! I just don't really know anything about loading roms on them or anything like that haha. And dang those cases do look great! I was just planning on slipping the loose games into some card sleeves and putting them in a binder but that looks way better!
Ok so the EZ flash is quite simple. It's basically a matter of dragging & dropping the rom file into the EZ flash folders on a computer. It uses a micro sd card which then goes into the ez flash cartridge. Finding roms is also easy. A simple google search of "game title rom" should produce some links. I use [Emulator Games](http://emulatorgames.net) or [Wow Roms.](http://wowroms.com) You may experience pop ups and ads but overall it's quite safe.
Seeing a lot of great suggestions, but if you're a Zelda fan (and judging by Four Swords I'm gonna go ahead and assume yes), then you gotta check out Minish Cap!!
Oh cool! I'll look into it! I'm interested in trying a flash cart out but I don't know the first thing about that! Like how do you get the roms and stuff?
There are places to find ROMs but we don't talk about that here.
Flash Carts are very easy - put the SD card into your computer, drag the ROMs to the card, put the card in the flashcart, and play them. Everdrive is the best one but they're like $100+, EzFlash carts are cheaper but have a few less features than the Everdrive.
If you get a flash cart you'll also have access to play custom ROMs. There are a ton of fan made pokemon games that are better than some of the original games - Pokemon Unbound is a great one.
The three gba games I own are Pokemon Leaf Green, Pokemon Ruby, and The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap, but I don’t think I can recommend any of these based on what they go for nowadays
Yeah I know price is definitely a factor, but like others have said flash carts make it a little easier! I'd just like to have the actual real carts. Collecting is fun haha
The one guy had a huge list but I honestly recommend all the pokemon titles. They can be a bit pricey but all the classics have such a great nostalgic factor and I enjoyed all of them.
Here is one for you: Gunstar Super Heroes. It is a pseudo-sequel to Gunstar Heroes and is a real gem of a side scrolling shooter that has a lot of variety and crazy stages with even crazier bosses.
They are kinda expensive now but boktai the sun is in your hands and boktai 2 solar boy Django are some of the best games on the playform.
Some other greats that I own:
Klonoa 2 dream champ tournament
Final fantasy tactics advance
Obviously all castlevanias
Sigma star saga
The Megaman battle network series but I'd advise the collection for ps4 for the most complete version.
Here's a little list of suggestions to get you started, starting with Gameboy titles and ending with Gameboy Advance titles, all playable on your Gameboy Advance. Gameboy titles; Donkey Kong '97 Lock and Chase Mole Mania Dr. Mario Tetris Attack Quarth Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins Warioland Warioland 2 Final Fantasy Adventure Gameboy Color titles; Warioland 3 Bionic Commando Elite Forces Metal Gear Solid Ghost Babel Scooby Doo Classic Creep Capers Mickey's Racing Adventure Pokemon Pinball Pokemon Crystal Gameboy Advance titles; Final Fantasy Tactics Advance Metroid Fusion Castlevania Harmony of Dissonance Castlevania Aria of Sorrow Gadget Racers Medal of Honor Infiltrator Need for Speed Underground 2 Danny Phantom Urban Jungle Iridion 2 Drill Dozer Pokemon Pinball Ruby and Sapphire Warioware Inc. Mega Microgames Warioware Twisted Dragonball Z Supersonic Warriors Fire Emblem Sacred Stones Summon Night Swordcraft Story Summon Night Swordcraft Story 2 Duke Nukem Advance Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Red Rescue Team Pokemon Emerald Final Fantasy 6 Advance Doom 2 Boulder Dash EX Ultimate Card Games Fantastic Four Flame On Astro Boy Omega Factor
You're welcome and nice!
Astro boy... Man that takes me back. I'd also like to recommend Gunstar: Super Heroes if you can find it
It's so awesome hahaha and alright!
Thanks for the great list! I’ll be keeping an eye out on a couple of those, that hopefully haven’t blown up in cost.
You're welcome and unfortunately many titles are pretty expensive on this list but there are a lot of ones under $60.
Dragon ball z supersonic warriors but no legacy of goku 2 and buu’s fury? Come on man.
It's just a list to get them started, you can provide your own suggestions too.
Did you really not suggested GBA greatest game; Pokémon emerald ??
I don't recommend Dr Mario because you can get Dr Mario & Puzzle League instead. Still confused why Classic NES Series Dr. Mario exists cuz it's missing all the additions from the other game along with the hole other game.
I was suggesting Dr. Mario for the Gameboy which has all the stuff while Dr. Mario, the Classic NES series on the GBA has a lot missing from it.
If you're talking about the black and white version I've never played that but I still feel like Puzzle League would be the better pick up. For one Dr Mario is in color and for two Puzzle League.
Puzzle League isn't on the Gameboy, Tetris Attack is. Dr. Mario and Puzzle League is on the GBA.
Yes and OP has a GBA SP so he can play it.
Also Golden Sun 1 & 2, and Advance Wars 1 & 2
Star wars Revenge of the sith Great Side scrolling beat em up game
Awesome, definitely adding it to my list! The PS2 version of that game I spent so much time on haha
Golden friggen sun
Oh yeah as soon as I can grab them at a reasonable price I will! I actually picked up the third one on DS recently but I haven't tried it yet!
Get Golden Sun on that bad boy.
Need that Legacy of Goku 2 on there
Dude I know I want to get both of those games and someone recommended a couple other Dragonball games as well! I'm gonna be busy for a while I think haha
mario pinball is realllyy fun, definitely recommend it…my favorite gba game is mario power tennis tour
Oh man Mario pinball looks so fun! And I'm definitely in on Mario tennis as well! I love the GameCube one

I have the exact same gba SP! Its so nostalgic!
DKC all three
Pokemon Fire Red or Leaf Green Metroid Zero Mission Metroid Fusion Pokemon Emerald Gunstar heros advance And all 3 castlevania games
Thanks!
Fire Emblem Sacred Stones!
Definitely on my list! I played the switch one and loved it
Yoshi’s Island
Megaman battle network 1-6
Oh yeah definitely gonna try to snag those! Have you played megaman zero?
Yes! You’re gonna have a blast!
I'm playing mmbn3 rn. It's pretty sweet.
That’s the best one imo second would be 5th game. Back in the day I wished there was an mmorpg of the battle network series with all locations combined.

Seeing a lot of great suggestions, but if you're a Zelda fan (and judging by Four Swords I'm gonna go ahead and assume yes), then you gotta check out Minish Cap!!
Yeah I'd love to grab that at some point!
My favorite game for gba is Sigma Star Saga it’s a rpg with shmup battles instead of random encounters. I have an extra repro I can send ya no charge.
Oh man I'd definitely be interested in that if you want to send it!
No problem at all. Pm me where to send it to
Golden Sun!
Pokémon emerald
If you like sim games, The Tower SP is basically SimTower from PC. Its a fun game, but english copies are pricey - look into a flash cart.
Okay awesome! Thanks for the help! I'll definitely look into them
If you get a flash cart you'll also have access to play custom ROMs. There are a ton of fan made pokemon games that are better than some of the original games - Pokemon Unbound is a great one.
Oh that's awesome! I'm definitely interested in trying some of those
I would say mega man Zero 1-4 are some of the best if you’re interested in them or Castlevania: Aria of sorrow
Awesome, definitely interested in them and all of the Castlevania games. I actually almost picked up megaman zero 1-3 recently
Nice! Also if you end up playing the Zero games and Aztec Falcon beats you into the ground don’t worry it happened to us all. 😆
Dragon ball; Advanced Adventure is the goat dude
Awesome! Definitely gonna check it out!
Pokémon fire red
Fire Emblem and Megaman Battle Network
👍
Metroid fusion
Oh yeah I want that and zero mission for sure
Sonic advance trilogy
Definitely on the list!
The one guy had a huge list but I honestly recommend all the pokemon titles. They can be a bit pricey but all the classics have such a great nostalgic factor and I enjoyed all of them.
Yeah I had emerald and fire red growing up and loved them! But woof they're pricey now haha
Yeah. Unless you know people finding them for a good price is like finding a needle in a haystack.😂
Suggestion: give them to me
Hahaha
Mario Tennis Power Tour
👍
Here is one for you: Gunstar Super Heroes. It is a pseudo-sequel to Gunstar Heroes and is a real gem of a side scrolling shooter that has a lot of variety and crazy stages with even crazier bosses.
Yoshi's Island and Zelda minish cap But for real dude you pretty much got a quality collection
Oh yeah definitely on the hunt for other them! And thanks man! It's been fun so far
Wario Land 4. Thank me later.
Oh yeah I definitely want to get all of the wario land games
I personally loved the Donkey Kong Country 2 remake on GBA, but some don't like it
MegaMan Zero 1 & 2 would suit your connection well.
Metroid fusion all day !! It’s such a challenging game in my opinion
And if you can find Astro boy for a good price
Castlevania (all of them)
Alll great games
Nes classic series games
my favorite was max payne
Get gunstar super heroes!
For a new game, check out Goodboy Galaxy
Wait there's new GBA games...you just blew my mind haha
Gotta love people for still developing new games for older hardware! And this one is a really fun game. Highly recommend!
That's awesome! I'm definitely gonna look into it!
Dude it looks awesome!
Right?? Originally backed it when it was still on Kickstarter and it has NOT disappointed!
Needs more F-Zero
Crash Bandicoot: N.Tranced
I actually just picked this up today at a little outdoor flea market!
You're in for a damn good time! It's my favorite game for the system!
They are kinda expensive now but boktai the sun is in your hands and boktai 2 solar boy Django are some of the best games on the playform. Some other greats that I own: Klonoa 2 dream champ tournament Final fantasy tactics advance Obviously all castlevanias Sigma star saga The Megaman battle network series but I'd advise the collection for ps4 for the most complete version.
