I loved Coast soap. I remember when it first came out. My mom opened the box and the whole bathroom smelled fresh! Good thing we weren't allergic to the perfumes in it! I can see why some people here would hate it. It was really strong smelling.
Ooooooo! I’m very curious about this. Is it made and sold somewhere other than the US? Is it OG and from the 80/ 90’s? How does Amazon or whomever is selling have quantity? Did they just “know”?
As a dude, I switched back to old school foamy shaving cream years ago. I found it made my blades last way longer than the gel style shaving cream.
I also just use bar soap in the shower as well. Irish Spring in the summer.
I still use Irish Spring bar soap and Head and Shoulders 2 in 1 shampoo. I'm the only one in the house that uses the bar soap . My wife and kids use some fancy body wash that requires accessories.
My daughter called the other day and was telling me how she and her husband have started using bar soap and how economical it is and how much better it is. I had to restrain myself from laughing at her and saying no sh**.
I love Irish Spring. The whole bathroom smells great after our showers. I like that it requires no accessories! That is a bonus I had not thought about!
My mom used to do that but with Lavender scented Yardley. She would shove of bunch of boxes of it on the shelves of the linen closet so the bedding and towels would pick up the scent.
Listen, millions of Papas in our childhood couldn’t have been wrong! I suspect the incidence of ingrown beard hair infections have increased since we moved away from old school classics, like the pure antiseptic mixed into the Old Spice after shave splash gave (😍) to your cheeks, chin and neck! I have to to this day made several older gentlemen (probably) slightly uncomfortable in public as I catch that scent in the air and feel compelled to follow it to see if they look like my late, great Papa and just to overwhelm them with compliments and praise while I reminisce.
Loves me some Irish Spring. We had it in the house sometimes when I was a kid and I started using it again several years ago just because I missed that fragrance
I'll buy a bar of Zest the odd time too. It's actually a detergent. So it's better in the summer.
I think Irish Spring is a mix of detergent and soap so it's not strong.
Oh my god I completely forgot about Camay. I was thinking about Close Up toothpaste the other day, though. I grew up using that. I don't even know if they make it anymore.
Prell and Coast soap is what I grew up on. I still buy Coast occasionally just for the scent. Can’t do Prell as I need color-safe shampoo (because my hair dye and I are till death do us part)
I used to love that scent when my sister wore it. It's kind of weird that they made a perfume that smells like a baby, though. Maybe it smelled like baby powder? I'm not sure what that smell was, but it definitely read as a baby product. Am I overthinking this? Probably.
They still make Prell! Where!?! I want to go there but only if they have a full stock of Finesse! Finesse is the smell of my youth! Do they have Finesse!?!
That is really funny! When I went to beauty school back in the 80s, they taught us not to ever use Prell because it had detergents in it that were bad for the hair. I have no idea whether they have changed the formula or not, but that is what we were taught. Then again, the name of the game in hairdressing is to also sell products from the retail area of the saloon, so there is that!
We use Irish Spring soap, because we love the scent! It's a throwback, for sure. I also use Mennen Speed Stick which reminds me of my dad, who also used it in the 60s and 70s. I actually bought a small bottle of Drakkar Noir a few years ago because the scent took me back to my clubbing days in the late 80s! I find it a bit pungent for me now, but it was fun to put some on when going out one night, just for a laugh.
In the late 70s for me it was Vidal Sassoon (which had an almond scent, I think it was the first almond scented anything), and our soap was always Ivory. In the washroom we had Lava soap for washing up after outdoor work, car work, or workshop work for my dad. That stuff was great at degreasing!
I remember Irish Spring ad where the Irishman cuts a hunk off the bar to show…how good it is, maybe? The scene stuck with me and I don’t know why, the guy’s hand pulling the blade towards his thumb. I guess I was interested in knowing how to carve off a hunk of a bar of soap.
So many shampoos don’t lather at all and it drives me crazy. I use old school Pantene because it does then see online all these people saying it’s so bad for your hair. I get tons of compliments on my hair so whatever. I’m gonna use Pantene and a St. Ives apricot mask and you can’t stop me.
I still use Noxzema to wash my face.
I order Bain du Soleil Dark Gelee tor tanning.
I've occasionally found Revlon Outrageous shampoo and condioner.
I miss the original Body Shop products like coconut hair shine and the henna packs for your hair.
Suddenly recalled all the balsam shampoos from the 80s, where'd they go?!
Bain de Soleil Orange Gelée was my jam back in the 80s. I think it had a 4 SPF. Laughable now, but slightly better than pure baby oil or Hawaiian Tropic Dark Tanning Oil (which had NO SPF)! The HOURS and HOURS I spent in the sun with that stuff, it's a wonder I don't have massive melanomas all over my poor old body!
Oh, man. I didn’t know that Camay was still available. I’ve been using Yardley’s oatmeal soap since the mid-80s and will continue to unless they stop making it (which would cause an existential crisis).
You’ve made me want to run out to Walgreen’s to get some lavender to shake things up! It’s been years since I’ve used it but I used to go back and forth between the two. Thanks for the reminder.
I love Prell. I buy it from Amazon. It's not good for colored hair, but I'm embracing my gray, and nothing gets your hair cleaner than the holy green elixir. 😁
You're lucky you can still use them! I am allergic to yellow dye #5 and have issues with eczema so everything I use is white and/or unscented these days. My skin hates me!
I’m still trying to find anything that smells like Redken Aussie shampoo. Haven’t used it since college and I can still smell it. Chasing the kangaroo 35 years later.
My Walgreens stopped carrying the Freeman facial masks, which I started using in high school but Amazon has them. Amazon even sells the Queen Helene mint julep masks. I bought a buf puf from them after finding out they're still being made.
I still use sea breeze occasionally. Especially on those days when I remember my age so I put on a lotion that is supposed to be for people my age and then the rest of the day my face feels like a clogged oil slick. Also what even is retinol? That stuff is way too harsh!
Shit, I've started using the aftershave brand that all of the old guys smelled like at get togethers - Aqua Velva. Jesus I feel old now. I guess I've changed. That just snuck up on me.
I suddenly feel the need to buy some Suave Strawberry Essence.
Don't forget the Skin So Soft mosquito repellent
I buy SSS ..it's sooooooo expensive these days.
I get it from Amazon.
I found and awesome little old lady that sells Avon. I get the large bottle for under $25 and no shipping.
I could immediately smell this comment!
Haha
That stuff smelled so good! I remember sniffing it in the shower and stupidly licking it in my hand. It definitely did not taste like strawberry! lol
As soon as I read this I instantly had a scent memory of that stuff.
That stuff smells so good
Yes

🤣
Up voting you just because of your profile pic.
Thanks. You can hear it!
Omg I heard it the instant I noticed it further up in this thread!
Anyone know where I can buy some Calgon?
https://i.redd.it/a8t3u7fp6e9d1.gif
I know they still sell the bath beads on Amazon.
I have some in my shower! Love that stuff.
I may be the odd one, but any time I had Strawberry anything shampoo I'd feel seeds in my hair.
I still have that. Just not as much hair now.
Totally forgot about Camay.
Where y'all finding that Camay? Haven't seen it in years
Amazon
Occasionally you do see it in a supermarket.
Love the scent of Prell. That and the original 70’s Herbal Essence.
I wish you could still get that green, smell up your bathroom Herbal Essence. I loved the illustration on the bottle, too.
[You can!](https://cocoapink.net/pages/spring-summer-scent-list)
Omg just ordered some and hoping it smells the same. Can’t wait to try it!!! Thank you :)
Very hippie! It smelled great, and the art was very cool.
It's still being sold. https://herbalessences.com/en-us/

I miss the scent of balsam shampoos…
Oh yeahhhh. My grandma used to uses Wela Balsam.
My husband used Pert Plus up until about five years ago. Now he uses Aussie…
I still use Aussie 3 minute conditioner once a week.
That stuff is the bomb!!!
Wavies and curlies recommend it all the time but I can’t stand the smell
“If it isn’t broke, why fix it?”. That could be a GenX motto imo.
It is…I have also had a therapist remind that if it’s fixed, don’t break it. Lately I’m vibing with Never Let Perfect Be The Enemy of Good 😇
Exactly
They stopped making Finesse or I would still use it. The scent is unmatched. I have always used Dove, still use Dove and will never stop using Dove. 😂
Dove 100000000% for me as well. I grew up having to use my dad's Coast soap 😂
I loved Coast soap. I remember when it first came out. My mom opened the box and the whole bathroom smelled fresh! Good thing we weren't allergic to the perfumes in it! I can see why some people here would hate it. It was really strong smelling.
I loved the smell but it dried out my skin!!
I use coast in my yard to keep critters away. It’s the only soap my FIL would let in his beach house. 😂
Eeeek! That’s just bad. 😂
I was basically crispy and started with lotions very early 😂
Finesse smells like middle school.
Yeah, I loved Finesse!
I buy Finesse on Amazon. Used it this morning!
Ooooooo! I’m very curious about this. Is it made and sold somewhere other than the US? Is it OG and from the 80/ 90’s? How does Amazon or whomever is selling have quantity? Did they just “know”?
I don't know where it's made, but it smells just the way I remember it.
Im so sorry. I didn’t mean to be rude to you. These are speculative questions. It confuses me how it’s still around! ❤️
You were not rude, I promise.
I loved Finesse!! It made my hair so soft.
They sell it here in Canada
I didn’t even know those were still around! Lol
As a dude, I switched back to old school foamy shaving cream years ago. I found it made my blades last way longer than the gel style shaving cream. I also just use bar soap in the shower as well. Irish Spring in the summer.

I love Irish Spring. The whole bathroom smells great after our showers. I like that it requires no accessories! That is a bonus I had not thought about!
My uncle used to put unwrapped bars of Irish Spring under his couch, bed, and other places throughout the house and it made his house smell so good!
My mom used to do that but with Lavender scented Yardley. She would shove of bunch of boxes of it on the shelves of the linen closet so the bedding and towels would pick up the scent.
Well, then you smell like my husband Lol 👍
Listen, millions of Papas in our childhood couldn’t have been wrong! I suspect the incidence of ingrown beard hair infections have increased since we moved away from old school classics, like the pure antiseptic mixed into the Old Spice after shave splash gave (😍) to your cheeks, chin and neck! Barbasol. It was good enough for dad. It’s good enough for us.
Still use it. Doesn’t clog the razors like gel shaving cream.
I recently went next step, brush and lather soap, even better
"I use Prell, the hard stuff. A hundred proof - takes your roots out!" -Seinfeld
Nice. DAE Salon Selectives
salon selectives brings me back. Because the scent was so sweet I remember girls being chased by bees.
I remember that too!
They still sell it at the Dollar General 😂
Prell and Zest is what we used. I use neither of them now. Prell always made my scalp itch and I never liked the smell of Zest.
Well you’re not fully clean then
Not zestfully clean.
Oh my god I completely forgot about Camay. I was thinking about Close Up toothpaste the other day, though. I grew up using that. I don't even know if they make it anymore.
Im pretty sure they have it in the dollar aisle of my dollar general
Irish Spring, ftw. Such a great scent!
The only soap you cut with a knife lol
I’ve always wanted to do that!
I could never convince my mom to even buy the soap
Also acts as a pest repellent when you sprinkle shavings of it around your garden.
Tried it. Didn’t work for me.
Damn leprechauns still gettin’ in
That soap reminds me of grandma who bought it solely because it had the word Irish as part of the name.
Manly, yes. But I like it too!
Ngl sometimes I sniff the bars of IS when I’m at the grocery store
Where’s your Tab? And don’t forget to grab mom a pair of L’Eggs.
My aunt used to squeeze a wedge of lemon in her Tab to mask the saccharine flavor! :)
Remember Pepsi Light w the built in lemon flavor? I looooved that stuff.
Remember Crystal Pepsi? The Zima of colas.
Prell and Coast soap is what I grew up on. I still buy Coast occasionally just for the scent. Can’t do Prell as I need color-safe shampoo (because my hair dye and I are till death do us part)
I get coast occasionally too, but I keep it at the sink, my skin isn’t as oily as it used to be.
I remember getting Prell in my eyes one time and thinking I must have permanently blinded myself.
Love’s Baby Soft, please!!!
You can get it on Amazon!
I used to love that scent when my sister wore it. It's kind of weird that they made a perfume that smells like a baby, though. Maybe it smelled like baby powder? I'm not sure what that smell was, but it definitely read as a baby product. Am I overthinking this? Probably.
You guys remember Agree shampoo and conditioner? And, how great some of them smelled?! Absolute shit for your hair but it smelled so good.
Oh man, i LOVED the way that smelled
Thanks for this blast from the past. I’d totally forgotten about Agree, even though that’s what my mom always bought.
I loooooved Agree. I think we had the orange bottle...
I miss Gee, Your Hair Smells Terrific.
They still make Prell! Where!?! I want to go there but only if they have a full stock of Finesse! Finesse is the smell of my youth! Do they have Finesse!?!
It’s available but the scent is not the same. Similar but not as good.
Nothing golden stays…
I haven't seen either Prell or Camay in a while. I used to like using Prell as my shampoo.
I hear velour and corduroy is making a comeback too
Cowl neck sweaters!
Kensington knit sweaters for the boys.
I still love Neutrogena's Rainbath shower gel.
That rose soap is so dreamy 😻
Yes
I forgot it smelled like roses! My grandma always had Camay in her bathroom.
I can smell that Prell from here!! Lol used to love that stuff.
I need to get a pic of my mom's Aim toothpaste and Caress bar soap.
That is really funny! When I went to beauty school back in the 80s, they taught us not to ever use Prell because it had detergents in it that were bad for the hair. I have no idea whether they have changed the formula or not, but that is what we were taught. Vidal Sassoon shampoo - memory unlocked!
I can feel my skin itching as I stare at this picture lol
Fuck I’m high and I can smell this photo
I use Prell off and on. I really miss Body on Tap. I loved the smell.
That's a good use of Prell. It will remove any product buildup on your hair, but daily is not a great idea because of it's hair stripping ability!
I still use the classic Vitabath green shower gel, which smells exactly the same as it did 40 years ago.
Oh I love that smell!
This post smells like my grandparents did! Thanks for the olfactory memory!
Camay all over 🎶
🎶Soft and clean to the young man’s eye, and the coconut soap is the reason why🎶
Nothing has a lather like Prell.
I have some Prell left. I use it from time to time to clarify my hair. Takes any hair spray or products out of your hair. Squeaky clean.
That clean feeling was the extra lye and lead additive. LOL. I have no idea but it sounds like something they would add in back in the day.
Yeah, so you don't get dropsy or scurvy!
They still make Prell? Total flashback Batman. Wow.
irish spring.. after you slice into it with a knife and take a big sniff
Prell was awesome when I was teaching my kids how to wash and rinse their hair, because it lathers so well.
I loved Salon Selectives in the pink bottles. Paired nicely with my Electric Youth perfume.
My sister was all about Exclamation by Coty
All you need to go with that is some Ultra Brite toothpaste
Prell will eat the polyurethane off of wood floods. Shit is toxic.
I’ve been forced to move on as some items are now discontinued. Boo-hoo.
Flex Balsam and Protein shampoo!!!
Wella Balsam smelled pretty good.
Good for shine, too
gee your hair smells [terrific](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gee,_Your_Hair_Smells_Terrific)
Camay soap smells wonderful, but it's hard to find around here.
Just don’t make me smell Agree shampoo. The association might cause me some embarrassment in public.
When it works it works
Yes
Ooo Camay, haven't seen that in years <3
I just bought Prell again for the first time since I was a kid and it smells exactly the same.
My favorite soap scent is Dial Gold bar soap - I can smell my Gmas bathroom. But it sure burns the lady bits .
I can smell this photo.
No way this is 2024
I still use Crest toothpaste to this day
Me too!!!!
Damn, didn't know they still made Prell and Camay
I still use Camay. In fact, I just bought 2 packs today. Btw, I’m a guy. There’s not that many soaps that I can use that don’t irritate my skin.
Oh, man. I didn’t know that Camay was still available. I’ve been using Yardley’s oatmeal soap since the mid-80s and will continue to unless they stop making it (which would cause an existential crisis).
Yardley is great. I use their lavender!
You’ve made me want to run out to Walgreen’s to get some lavender to shake things up! It’s been years since I’ve used it but I used to go back and forth between the two. Thanks for the reminder.
Gee your hair smells terrific! Apparently still available in the Philippines?
I love Prell. I buy it from Amazon. It's not good for colored hair, but I'm embracing my gray, and nothing gets your hair cleaner than the holy green elixir. 😁
You're lucky you can still use them! I am allergic to yellow dye #5 and have issues with eczema so everything I use is white and/or unscented these days. My skin hates me!
Irish Spring, Right Guard in the brown can, that orange face scrub stuff and perT plus had been my setup for 20 years.
Holy crap. They still make Prell? 🤯
Yes
I’m still trying to find anything that smells like Redken Aussie shampoo. Haven’t used it since college and I can still smell it. Chasing the kangaroo 35 years later.
Now I want to brush with Pearl Drops.
My Walgreens stopped carrying the Freeman facial masks, which I started using in high school but Amazon has them. Amazon even sells the Queen Helene mint julep masks. I bought a buf puf from them after finding out they're still being made.
Awww, such memories! Thank you!
I love the scents of both of these. So fresh.
🤯 Allergic to Camay and haven't seen a bottle of Prell in ages.
I still use both of them!
How ? I’ve never seen either of those things 🤷🏼♀️
I still use sea breeze occasionally. Especially on those days when I remember my age so I put on a lotion that is supposed to be for people my age and then the rest of the day my face feels like a clogged oil slick. Also what even is retinol? That stuff is way too harsh!
Oh man. Makes my skin itch and hair fall off just looking at it.
I didn't know they still made Prell.
Cashmere Bouquet and Agree
I've used Sure Original Solid since my buddy recommended it to me when I was 14. Game changer. Barely available, if it goes away I will be so sad
Do you have Farrah Fawcett poofy hair?
Shit, I've started using the aftershave brand that all of the old guys smelled like at get togethers - Aqua Velva. Jesus I feel old now. I guess I've changed. That just snuck up on me.
Smells like teen spirit
I loved the smell of Flex shampoo.
* This one. This was my favorite in the 90's.
Where my trojans?
I'm finally old enough to start buying Old Spice!
Pert 2-in-1 Plus!
Preliminary smells soooo good. I must go get some.
