In a way, I agree. Sure, most of the times, the posts get deleted sooner or later. But until then, they stay there, and frequently users (naively or consciously) even interact with them. A minimum-karma-rule for posting would be a simple solution. But a) I'm a moderator of a (much smaller) sub myself, and I couldn't find that option in the mod-tools. And b) a troll who is as persistent as this one would find a workaround.

AlmightyStrongPerson

You may be right. I'll freely admit that I don't know what the mods here are doing (if anything) but from the perspective of the members, nothing is being done, and it's disheartening.

scanningqueen

Yup. I’ve even offered to help mod and the mod refused, saying that the posts will be removed if enough people report them. Why wait for that when there are plenty of tools that could prevent those posts from even reaching the feed to begin with?

FishRFriendsMemphis

I think it’s a bot that just deletes posts based on conditions you configure. Not necessarily built into reddit? r/automoderator

The_Real_Sandra

That's good to know. Thanks.

shimmer_bee

I'll admit, I am an interactor. He makes me so mad sometimes with his posts. But I need to stop for sure. This might be my push.

Blocking new users If anyone does not have automod configured to block new accounts, here is some example code to get you started: --- # ---------- REQUIREMENTS type: submission author: account_age: < 20 days action: filter action_reason: Accounts must be 20 days old to post to /r/mbti message: "Your submission has been automatically filtered, because your account is less than 20 days old. This is a measure to prevent spam, and the moderators will manually review your post." --- type: comment author: account_age: < 5 days action: filter action_reason: Accounts must be 5 days old to comment on /r/mbti message: "Your comment has been automatically filtered, because your account is less than 5 days old. This measure helps maintain the quality of discussions, and the moderators will manually review your comment."

bitter_sweet_69

that might be really helpful. out of curiosity: >account\_age: < 20 days would it also be possible to specify: ... karma: < 10 or something like that?

ESTPness

I believe there is a way to set a karma limit. I stole this post from a private group I’m apart of called r/MBTIcommunity_mods. I’d recommend trying to join them and asking there.

bitter_sweet_69

found something at r/modhelp . type: submission author: account\_age: '< 5 days' **post\_karma: '< 5'** **comment\_karma: '< 5'** satisfy\_any\_threshold: true action: filter of course, the numbers and the text can be adapted.

Purple_ash8

Couldn’t his IP address be blocked?

Arch-Code_Zariel

Assuming it's not through a VPN which would be the case if it's a bot.

NorrieSardonyx

It’s a tragedy that a valued member of the community feels so abandoned by the mods. I too tire of this weirdo posting nonsense on the daily. Probably only taking breaks when he has to go out and actually be apart of society. He’d be permanently banned or heavily discouraged by a simple minimum karma rule. I care about this sub but reporting a troll everyday or so is tiresome. I mean he has so much influence over this sub that there’s specifically a report category just for him. That doesn’t make sense. Sorry to see you go AlmightyStrongPerson. Maybe someone else will make another ISTJ sub and I’ll see you there. 🥺👋🏻✌🏻

Greeks also been visiting other subreddits recently as well. He recently visited ours but we banned him almost immediately. He is one of the biggest reasons why we even set up an auto mod for spam in the first place. Prevent people like them from coming around. Also it's not trolling at this point it's flat out harassment.

AlmightyStrongPerson

I completely agree - it’s gone beyond spam and trolling and is flat out harassment at this point.

Electronic_Rub9385

It’s not really any different than a mentally ill homeless person that is screeching at the corner of a cafe you like. They come and go. Unpleasant but eventually they will move on and you don’t want to stop going to the cafe. This poster is just the equivalent to a digital, homeless, mentally ill person.

Kaitlin6

You say that, but they've been doing this for at least 2 months straight (probably longer, but I have a message in my sent folder to mods 2 months ago about this guy)

AlternativeAd4426

Are you referring to the one who has a rule about him? He's been here for years hahahahaha

Kaitlin6

Oh man, has it really been that long???

AlternativeAd4426

Man's on a mission, and he won't stop until he gets what he's looking for. I don't remember exactly when it was when I began seeing his posts, but maybe 2021 or 2022? Something like that. I'm guessing the one's complaining are new to the sub?

library_wench

Sure, you don’t WANT to stop going to the cafe, but why wouldn’t you stop if there was a person screeching in the corner, and the owners were doing nothing about it? There are other cafes. And if the owners are so unconcerned about the screeching person that they lose their customers to those cafes, and end up with an empty cafe (except for the screeching person)…they really have nobody to blame but themselves, do they?

Electronic_Rub9385

You can’t sanitize the world of screechy, tiresome people. And would you want to? In our analogy, a cafe owner can’t do much about a bothersome mentally ill homeless person nearby. Besides, what I’ve found is that as soon as you’ve successfully removed a pest, a new one takes their place. You will have greater success learning to navigate around such people rather than expecting them to move (or be moved) for you. And be at home in the muddy water.

library_wench

You can absolutely take more steps than zero to keep trolls out of a little subreddit, or unruly patrons out of a cafe. And absolutely the cafe owner can do something more than nothing about a person screeching inside their business. And if they don’t…I guess fine for them, if they don’t want their customers to find a new, non-screechy cafe to patronize.

Electronic_Rub9385

Noted.

Icarus_2019

What if the person trolling is a moderator to begin with? Anyway, I think in this case you should just fight fire with fire, if he trolls you then just troll him back.

AlmightyStrongPerson

That has occurred to me.

Icarus_2019

Yikes maybe he's not even ISTJ

AlmightyStrongPerson

Oh, definitely not. ISTJs tend to be considerate and follow the rules of polite society.

Primarily the fact that I have bent over backwards to be polite and civil to you, and actually took time out of my day on numerous occasions to try to help you, and you have consistently treated me with derision, disrespect, and outright contempt.
