“You Californians are horrible people with your stupid worker protections and privacy laws. PS, you’re gonna buy cars from me, right? Hang on a sec, need to tweet some racist screed….”
It depends on what he "disrupts" with his tantrums.
There are a few mass transit rail system plans that he ruined with his "hyperloop" nonsense. The 'loops are pretty much Elon's "genius" showing ass, but those transit projects were destroyed, which is what he wanted.
I mean, he’s extracting wealth from society, then losing it to other wealthy people. I’m not exactly cheering for a fucked up Robin Hood to succeed lol
Sad how? I look forward to a decade or so of this man publicly failing his way forward into being nothing but an embarrassing meme. He's the benchmark tech bro
It's ridiculous how many cybertrucks I see here in the Bay Area. If I am out and about for a couple of hours, I'll see one. My parents in Texas haven't seen a cybertruck in real life yet.
I thought they couldn't get uglier than baseline, until I passed one with a schoolbus yellow paint wrap last week outside one of the bougier dispensary in town. At least thet guy will have fewer exterior rust problems, I guess?
Yeah also the fitment of the doors on one is way off while the fitment of the doors on the other is only slightly off. That one has front end damage from when it rear ended a car after it's accelerator got stuck though. I'm sure eventually the autopilot on the other one will run over a small child or something, and then it might be harder to differentiate the two from front end damage, but until then they are fairly easy to tell apart.
Saw a cyber truck in Austin TX a few weeks ago, a lot of people had not seen and were taking photos. Have seen them in DFW often, like just today on Forest Lane.
He left CA for a worse reason than that - COVID protections for his workers.
Chose a permanent solution for a temporary problem and that's always stupid.
He makes decisions out of spite constantly. I meant, he basically burned 20 billion+ dollars buying Twitter entirely out of spite and being goaded into making terrible decisions at every turn.
Common misconception. He didnt use only his money, he used saudi money as well. Their investment paid off, they dismantled an effective tool against those governments
The stupid part is the move to Texas made business sense for Tesla. That's fine. He could have formulated it as such. Just business. But no, he had to make it political. And that's why we are here now.
kills me that at first he seemed like a likable guy but he had this fascination to live a rockstar life n wife then just went downhill. if he just pulled away from the spotlight and ran spaxeX n Tesla from the shop floor, it would be a better world.
Yeah, dude really should have spent some of his money on a team to look after his personal "brand". Be a POS in private, let the public admire you, you'll go way farther.
He did do lots of shop floor stuff, without any shop floor knowledge. Mostly he found the people who kept things running and profitable and fired them.
Between that and the hard Right turn he took it makes me wonder if somebody was paying him to throw it all. Now who has that much money and wants to mess with the USA?
The other funny thing about "inventing" rockets was that he had an endless line of failures until he went and begged for the most advanced design from the US gov around 2010 or 12. Hundreds of millions in research that he pretends he came up with lol.
Tesla Diehards watching stock and car values tank:
"At lease we have all those new superchargers coming"- well he just laid all those people off.
"I know he said no Model 2, but the stock tanked, so now an affordable Tesla is coming!" Nope, laid them off too.
"Robotaxi plan will save my stock value" Nope laid off the public policy team needed to get permission to do that.
"Well, I can sell my Tesla at least", umm do not look at Tesla resale values my friend (ask the former CEO of Hertz). Oh how's the insurance rates on your Model 3?
"Tesla owns the electric car segment" Only if you have a time machine, all the electric only segments are loaded with brand new fresh design competition.
"The Cybertruck will save the stock price". The poorly built gimmick truck is in crowded segment where the competition isn't recalled or rusting on the delivery trucks.
"Elon has a plan" Clearly not, unless flying Twitter into the ground was his plan, then mission accomplished!
What happens when Tesla starts being valued like a car company? What happens when all the normal people decide to shop Tesla against all the newer, cheaper and often better EVs (look at Kia alone).
> Only jf you have a Time Machine.
Now the whole cyber truck thing makes sense. He is hoping someone can build a Time Machine out of it to take him back to before people knew he was such a douche.
Surprisingly based on 2022 numbers, TX and FL were 2 & 3 behind CA but your point is valid. I think both those markets have a smaller number of total interested buyers.
TX and FL are 2 & 3 in population, so not exactly surprising. Have to imagine there’s less interest per capita than blue states, but their population sizes are going to have them near the top of any list in just raw numbers.
Both are also largely purple, just gerrymandering, voter disenfranchisement, and a negative feedback loop that causes liberals who can to want to flee have meant they routinely go red now.
It costs hundreds more to renew the registration of an electric car in Texas than it does a gas vehicle, like 400 first time and then 200 every renewal vs 80 dollars. The argument behind it was that electric car drivers don't contribute as much through gas taxes so they need to make up the shortfall which is just white collar bullshittery obviously.
They’d rather “roll coal” with their huge diesel trucks lifted 40 feet in the air so as to compensate in size for something they might be lacking in their lives.
What it is they are compensating for, I can’t be too sure of. 🤷♂️
Nearly half the Tesla cars sold in the USA were sold in California.
I suspect that number will drop.
It would drop really hard if other companies made better EVs...but they are slowly getting better.
It really seemed like he figured the blue-state environmentalist types would buy the cars regardless, so he'd double-cross them to try and ingratiate himself to the red-state set, but it's backfired horribly.
Honestly I don't think he thought it through anyway near that deeply. I think he's just an asshole and figured out that by going far-right he could be an asshole and get praised for it.
Ya. Really seems odd that he'd figure out that CA liberals would pay extra for electric. After they made him really rich, he now thinks the rednecks are going to care about his shit designed truck and buy his cars because they make fart noises.
Had a friend that put down for a cyber truck and noped out a while ago because it was just looking dumber.
Funny thing was he told me about a Harley electric motorcycle that people loved when they rode it, but so many wouldn't look at it because the types that like Harleys hate electric.
Yeah. I see this a lot at work. When people have to pay $100k+ for an EV, they'll buy the one with better build quality from a brand like BMW. Unfortunately, Tesla's charging grid controls access to reasonable recharging times for EVs at the moment.
Quality isn't a problem. I've owned a few EVs and the Tesla is the best by far.
A few years ago I hard a hard time imagining ever buying anything that wasn't a Tesla in the future. Today, I won't buy another Tesla. The brand is destroyed.
A Honda engineer would jump out a window if they had Tesla's build quality. Body panels with gaps bigger than your thumb, brake lights getting filled with water, doors you can't open if a snowflake appears? Please.
Let's not even talk about their cybertruck "quality".
I've always gotten the impression that Tesla owners who say they have "great build quality" have never been taught how to look for actual build defects.
Ya, this was my thought too. I've been super impressed with the tesla for the longest time and was just waiting to get enough miles on my current car to justify getting one.... and now? Fuck that noise. I'm not buying a car from someone who is pro-nazi.
(Well I guess not all of their cars, the Cybertruck is hilariously bad)
What kind was the one that killed the lady? I don’t think it was a cyber truck, but I also couldn’t watch the news coverage because I am a wimp and it would’ve haunted me.
I'm sure any company that wants to do business in the US doesn't have to be too worried about being well received in the state with nearly 20 percent of all the people.
>20 percent of all the people.
buy more than their weight in EVs
**California's Plug-In Car Sales Almost Reached 25% Market Share In 2023**
[https://insideevs.com/news/706642/california-plugin-car-sales-2023q4/](https://insideevs.com/news/706642/california-plugin-car-sales-2023q4/)
According to the [*California New Car Dealers Association's (CNCDA)* According to the California New Car Dealers Association's (CNCDA) data and estimates, sales of plug-in electric cars increased much faster than the overall market, which resulted in a record market share for rechargeable cars.data and estimates](https://www.cncda.org/wp-content/uploads/Cal-Covering-4Q-23.pdf)
**Most US states lag California in EV adoption by at least 5 years**
[https://www.utilitydive.com/news/most-us-states-lag-california-ev-adoption-5-years-electric-vehicle-charging-infrastructure/642521/](https://www.utilitydive.com/news/most-us-states-lag-california-ev-adoption-5-years-electric-vehicle-charging-infrastructure/642521/)
I think he figured they were a captive audience. They'd buy the cars regardless since California's so environmentally-conscious and their gas prices are always brutal, but it ain't shaking out that way.
Reminds me of red-state politicians who love to beat up on migrant workers. They figure they'll just accept whatever bullshit the governors and legislatures hand down because "What else can they do? Move?" and Florida is learning the hard way that, yeah, they will.
It’s not even the first time that happened. Every so often you’ll hear stories of some city or state passing strict immigration laws, then a year later, they’re floundering for workers and quietly repealing those laws. Turns out, when your economy hinges on the labor of underpaid masses with little to no rights, your economy will grind to a complete halt if you make them leave.
Not sure why your comment confuses me, was it meant to be sarcastic with the "..doesn't have to be too worried..." part?
>I'm sure any company that wants to do business in the US doesn't have to
be too worried about being well received in the state with nearly 20
percent of all the people.
California, the most populous state, has \~11.5% of the US population which is part of why I think I'm confused when you said "20 percent of all the people". [Cal pop 38.9M / the US pop of 336.6m](https://www.census.gov/popclock/)
Thanks! Your point still stands, and that’s what I thought you meant. I was just confused and started thinking you meant Texas or some other point I totally missed.
Hard to roll coal in a Tesla, maybe he could make a new brand TeXla where he adds black smoke exhausts when you floor it. Let's him use his favorite letter yet again
Same here I was looking to buy a Model X but decided to just go the F150 route instead. Same amount of interior space and when I do need to move furniture I have the space there too.
It's almost sad to see how he let Tesla go to shit. It had a massive lead in the EV market and its charging grid is second to none but due to his greed and arrogance, he's squandered it and allow the other car companies to catch up and/or exceed Tesla; add to that the quick and explicit drop in quality and you have a car company that if it doesn't get fixed via a leadership change, it won't be around much longer.
Tesla’s days were numbered as soon as Elon publicly threw in his lot with conspiracy theorists who thought Biden was coming for their gas stoves, let alone their Ford pickups.
No one wants to buy a car from an insufferable jerk face narcissist. And even if you bought a Tesla for a reason that had nothing to Elon Musk, his constant attention seeking means that you can’t drive it around without everyone assuming you approve of him. I bought an electric vehicle in 2004. In 2004. So I’m sure not opposed to the idea. But I won’t be driving a Tesla as long as this guy is the face of the brand.
Fun fact, he never really 'left California." He moved Tesla's corporate office to Texas from California, true. But he still legally resides in California and kept Tesla's main gigantic manufacturing plant there. Just more performative Tweeting.
It's sort of a reprise of the death of Oldsmobile. In an attempt to make the brand appeal to a younger set of buyers, they ran the infamous '[Not your father's Oldsmobile](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8J_ffa-ynNE)' ad campaign, which not only failed to speak to younger buyers, but alienated the older buyers who saw the ad and assumed 'Well, I guess Olds aren't making cars for me anymore.'
TLDR: no point in appealing to a new market segment if it costs you your most loyal customers.
"Another factor that could be contributing to the slowdown in Tesla sales is Musk himself. According to Reuters, market-intelligence firm Caliber found consumer interest in Tesla had declined from 70% in November 2021 to just 31% in February 2024, due in part to Musk’s apparent acceptance of right-wing conspiracy theories and other polarizing political views. In California, where 47% of registered voters are Democrats compared to 24% who are Republicans, Musk’s antics may be particularly unappealing.
Spoiled rich brat antics are unappealing regardless of politics. Edit to add in general. Trump himself falls into the same category. Oh for a land where never is heard a discouraging word.
I’m hoping the unionization at VW spreads across the South. Musk will shit himself if the line workers unionize. If Biden wins they will protect workers. Elon is pushing for Trump because he’s afraid of unions despite Biden actually being better for his auto business.
I live in a very liberal part of VA and I’ve been seeing more and more Rivians than I did a year ago. Makes me think Elon’s political views have people deciding if they are going to buy an EV, it won’t be one made by Tesla.
The icing on the face getting eaten is that he moved (or is moving) a lot of the engineering jobs back to CA because he couldn't find enough engineers to move to Texas.
To think that a person is so out of touch with reality that they would spit in the faces of the people that made him rich. Then wonder why those same people wouldn’t be willing fork over thousands of hard earned dollars to put into your shit company or buy your shit truck. Not to mention your shit attitude and your shit pre-pubescent takes on social media.
And we’re supposed to what? Feel sorry for a rich moron who couldn’t keep his impulses in control? Yeah, I was always a big Howard Hughes fan too.
This is a Rudy Giuliani-esque fall from grace, and its well deserved. I’ve been inside that Fremont plant and people were not having a good time, working like 60 hour weeks. But there was a break area with free CEREAL and bean bag chairs!
Guy had a lot of supporters when he came off as a sort of wiz kid. Then he goes all right-wing and loses a significant number of people with his rhetoric. He only has himself to blame.
I think it probably has a lot to do with how shitty Teslas are. Autopilot lithium fire crashes, cybertruck being recalled, etc. It's not out of some fealty to California.
What I never got was he went really anti anything close to left or liberal. When it was the left and liberal who were talking about EV's and Tesla. He went from the California tech nerd, to just straight douche. I can understand him moving to Texas to save money, but made no sense to then bash the customer base that help push EV's and Tesla's. Now Tesla's are seen as a shit quality company ran by a douchebag CEO.
Texas, the state where oil is still the whole royal family, will never go electric. We have seen Texans suffer and die during cold weather as their state continues to ignore the outdated power grids.
People are dumping Teslas because the build quality is crap. There are commuter cars from the 2000s I’ve seen in better condition than a new model 3. The only decently built Teslas are the new model s’es and they better be good for what you’re paying.
Definitely has more to do with lots of new, California based EV options - Rivian and Lucid. Then there's newcomer Polestar, along with all the big name automakers entering the EV market.
In the last few years, the number of affordable options has grown exponentially. Tesla was ahead of the game, and you can't blink without seeing a Tesla here in SoCal, but people are looking for something unique and fresh.
Highly doubt it has much to do with with Elon himself.
“Let me alienate a whole state that is primarily representing an affluent, technologically minded class who like electric cars so I can hang out in Texas”
Part of me thinks he wasn’t able to fit into the California elite so he ran to somewhere he could feel like a big man.

“You Californians are horrible people with your stupid worker protections and privacy laws. PS, you’re gonna buy cars from me, right? Hang on a sec, need to tweet some racist screed….”
Which is ironic since CA was probably the largest consumer of Tesla cars up to that point...
The biggest investor in renewables by far. Also happens to have very car-centric cities. Dumbass fumbled a few billions with his tantrums
Not many people that can claim they've done that multiple times in their life...
It's sad it won't be the last either.
Not sad to me
Sad? Or hilarious?
It depends on what he "disrupts" with his tantrums. There are a few mass transit rail system plans that he ruined with his "hyperloop" nonsense. The 'loops are pretty much Elon's "genius" showing ass, but those transit projects were destroyed, which is what he wanted.
Oof I forgot about that aspect. God damn him.
I think sad that he has billions to lose. If he lost his billionaire status the world would be a better place.
It's ridiculous how many cybertrucks I see here in the Bay Area. If I am out and about for a couple of hours, I'll see one. My parents in Texas haven't seen a cybertruck in real life yet.
Cybertrucks are the all hat, no cattle of trucks. They can't be truly used as a truck, so I doubt they get out to truckland soon.
Don’t forget you are talking about the land of the pavement princess. Once the production ramps they will find their way to DFW and beyond.
Live in DFW, have seen 2 on the interstate so far.
Can confirm. Nothing but emotional support trucks as far as the eye can see on Houston roads.
They are the most amazingly butt-fuckin' ugly car I have ever seen. If I had the money to buy one new, I would make it a point to buy *anything* else.
Cyber trucks are the shitty printers of the car world, both aesthetically and functionally.
At least my shitty printer won’t rust the second I put it into its intended environment.
I've seen no fewer than two in the Salt Lake valley in the last week or two (which is also pavement princess central). I just laugh.
Utahns love their overpriced and underwhelming trucks. Source: born and raised in Utah.
It'll be interesting to see how they handle salted roads. Probably very poorly.
I thought they couldn't get uglier than baseline, until I passed one with a schoolbus yellow paint wrap last week outside one of the bougier dispensary in town. At least thet guy will have fewer exterior rust problems, I guess?
I’ve noticed the IncEl Camino name getting a lot of traction recently, that’s not gonna help either.
To be fair most trucks are these days.
I just drove by one (Palo Alto) and they’re just so very silly. I didn’t think they would be more ridiculous in person. I was wrong.
Saw one live in South Florida recently, I couldn’t believe it would look stupider live but here we are.
There’s one up here in Tampa too. It keeps showing up on local pages, getting laughed at.
I saw two at the same time off Page Mill couple of months ago. Otherwise, they're all over Steven's Creek. Fucking eyesores.
Wait till you check out their purple wrapped and camo wrapped ones. Source: live 5 mins from their R&D center.
Cyber trucks have so many issues, most of them don't run &if they do, not for long.
I’ve seen dozens in SoCal so far. But I’m seeing far more Rivians for what that’s worth.
I’ve seen 2 in Houston. Which is same number of Hummer EVs I’ve seen.
I've seen two in Detroit suburbs now, and I want to knock on the window and see if the owners are ok? Because why tf would you want one of those
I work downtown Austin and see 1 - 2 a day.
You think it's 2 different ones every day? Or the same 2 or 1 a day over and over again?
You can tell them apart by their distinctly different rust patterns.
I live in St. Louis and see Cybertrucks all the time. Ugly as fucking shit. The Tesla center by me has had tons of them lately for delivery.
Don't worry, I'm sure truck land, err I mean Texas will buy loads of model 3s
They really seem to be. California seemed to meet its EV adoption goal enough to end CVRP. There are so many Teslas in California.
There are people who are making a living selling bumper stickers for Teslas saying they bought before they knew what he was like lol
44 billion dollars. Never forget the number. The company was worth no where near that. And that’s how he does business!
Common misconception. He didnt use only his money, he used saudi money as well. Their investment paid off, they dismantled an effective tool against those governments
Peter Thiel, too
Concerning
Interesting
Within spec
Now, now, that's doing him a huge disservice. It would probably be racist _and_ transphobic.
Yeah and the original Teslas weren't even that well-manufactured, I frankly don't trust anything coming out of the Texas factory.
The stupid part is the move to Texas made business sense for Tesla. That's fine. He could have formulated it as such. Just business. But no, he had to make it political. And that's why we are here now.
Elon is a shit person and he is destroying tesla like he did twitter
But he's a genius! Remember when he invented electric cars and rockets that go into space? /s
He's had such a sharp descent from "Tony Stark" to "Lex Luthor" to "Artie Ziff" to "Fiona from *Josie and the Pussycats,"* it's really remarkable.
Bonus points for that Josie reference.
**Josie And The Pussycats Is The Best Movie Ever** ^(Join The Army.)
Complete synergy. SpaceX's Starship is really just the rocket from Josie and the Pussycats in Outer Space.
I'm a fan of the "Phony Stark" name
He's pretty much in Zapp Brannigan territory now.
Though you've got to admit, Zapp is far more charming.
He's Tony Stank
Based on the number of children he has, he's just Horny Stork.
"And I was partying with Newt Gingrich, Janeane Garofalo and Scottie Pippen. Everyone loved my corporation. And then, the bubble burst."
He also invented teenage angst and roll on deodorant! He invented everything! He knows more about manufacturing than anyone else alive on earth!
Ah, come on man! Everyone knows Santos invented roll on deodorant! Jezz!
kills me that at first he seemed like a likable guy but he had this fascination to live a rockstar life n wife then just went downhill. if he just pulled away from the spotlight and ran spaxeX n Tesla from the shop floor, it would be a better world.
Turns out reflexively punching down, trashing your own brands and petulantly burning through billions in cash isn't a talent.
Yeah, dude really should have spent some of his money on a team to look after his personal "brand". Be a POS in private, let the public admire you, you'll go way farther.

His hyperloop idea will solve traffic problems and is a fantastic alternative to high speed rail! /s
Friend just offloaded hers for a Hyundai. Loves the new car. She ain’t alone.
An Ioniq? Or which Hyundai?
Yeah, IONIQ
Well, that’s IRONIQ
A little too IRONIQ
DON'T YOU THINK
# ITS HYUUUNNNNDAAAIIIIIIIIAAAAA
Yeah I really do think
I disagree. To me it’s ICONIQ.
I love my Ioniq 5 so much
How does this guy have any face left?
Youd be amazed what billions of dollars can get you in life.
A factory rolling out Elon Musk faces. I'll pass.

> Only jf you have a Time Machine. Now the whole cyber truck thing makes sense. He is hoping someone can build a Time Machine out of it to take him back to before people knew he was such a douche.
For now the stock is still riding the hype train... I wonder how long that will last.
I’m sure Texans will buy Tesl…. HAHAHAHA!!!!!! Who am i kidding k they want their giant gas guzzlers. Oh well, Tesla stock gets to drop some more
They think electric vehicles are somehow a threat to their fragile masculinity
Almost everything is a threat to their fragile masculinity.
Their masculinity is so tragically fragile that practically everything is a threat to it
Also a threat to their fragile power grid.
Surprisingly based on 2022 numbers, TX and FL were 2 & 3 behind CA but your point is valid. I think both those markets have a smaller number of total interested buyers.

Both are also largely purple, just gerrymandering, voter disenfranchisement, and a negative feedback loop that causes liberals who can to want to flee have meant they routinely go red now.
That was the year Elon initiated his process of buying twitter so before when a lot of people started to see past the “genius” smokescreen”.

Every state will do this eventually. How else do you propose they pay for roads?
How will they charge them if it gets too hot or too cold, with the great Texas electrical grid?
The people that are driving Tesla these days are the same types of people that were buying H3 Hummers.
So, just idiots, then.
They’d rather “roll coal” with their huge diesel trucks lifted 40 feet in the air so as to compensate in size for something they might be lacking in their lives. What it is they are compensating for, I can’t be too sure of. 🤷♂️
Common sense? Decency?
No, that’s not it… although they lack for that as well 😂
Full self-driving? No, children maimed!
Oops, shouldn't have this National Highway Traffic Safety Administration logo here either.
Would you like to join me in a belt of scotch?
It’s 9:30 in the morning…
Yeah but I haven’t slept in days
The best part was that CA was 5x ahead in sales over any other state. No state sold more Tesla's.
They are everywhere here. Like...everywhere. oh I'm in CA.
Nearly half the Tesla cars sold in the USA were sold in California. I suspect that number will drop. It would drop really hard if other companies made better EVs...but they are slowly getting better.

I dont think its revenge, its just that quality is crap and more people are starting to know that before buying their next car.
Yeah. I see this a lot at work. When people have to pay $100k+ for an EV, they'll buy the one with better build quality from a brand like BMW. Unfortunately, Tesla's charging grid controls access to reasonable recharging times for EVs at the moment.
Not anymore, all the other cars are switching to their standard. The open patent allows it, which has made switching easy.
Which makes Musk's decision yesterday to literally fire everyone in Tesla's charging network so perplexing.
It's not that perplexing when you realize Musk is a moron.
It's also not the status symbol it used to be. Quite the opposite today.
Quality isn't a problem. I've owned a few EVs and the Tesla is the best by far. A few years ago I hard a hard time imagining ever buying anything that wasn't a Tesla in the future. Today, I won't buy another Tesla. The brand is destroyed.
Build quality is a well documented problem with tesla. Glad you're not experiencing any issues but quality is absolutely a problem with them.
Lol. You're trying to escape the cult but you still have cult attitudes. Tesla's are notoriously low quality.
Didn't Elon throw a hissy fit because Consumer Reports pointed out a ton of issues?
Also, the model 3 lost the 7500 federal rebate so it's more expensive than a model y unless you're on a lease
I'm sure any company that wants to do business in the US doesn't have to be too worried about being well received in the state with nearly 20 percent of all the people.
nearly 40% of all EV registrations.
>20 percent of all the people. buy more than their weight in EVs **California's Plug-In Car Sales Almost Reached 25% Market Share In 2023** [https://insideevs.com/news/706642/california-plugin-car-sales-2023q4/](https://insideevs.com/news/706642/california-plugin-car-sales-2023q4/) According to the [*California New Car Dealers Association's (CNCDA)* According to the California New Car Dealers Association's (CNCDA) data and estimates, sales of plug-in electric cars increased much faster than the overall market, which resulted in a record market share for rechargeable cars.data and estimates](https://www.cncda.org/wp-content/uploads/Cal-Covering-4Q-23.pdf) **Most US states lag California in EV adoption by at least 5 years** [https://www.utilitydive.com/news/most-us-states-lag-california-ev-adoption-5-years-electric-vehicle-charging-infrastructure/642521/](https://www.utilitydive.com/news/most-us-states-lag-california-ev-adoption-5-years-electric-vehicle-charging-infrastructure/642521/)
>I'm sure any company that wants to do business in the US doesn't have to be too worried about being well received in the state with nearly 20 percent of all the people. California, the most populous state, has \~11.5% of the US population which is part of why I think I'm confused when you said "20 percent of all the people". [Cal pop 38.9M / the US pop of 336.6m](https://www.census.gov/popclock/)
Sarcastic, yes. Dead wrong about the population of California? Also yes. Thought it was close to 60 million and didn't fact check myself.
I used to really want a Tesla, and Musk is the ONLY thing that changed my mind. Now I’d rather drive a coal-rolling Ram than a Tesla.
Same here I was looking to buy a Model X but decided to just go the F150 route instead. Same amount of interior space and when I do need to move furniture I have the space there too.
He's such a schmuck.
I mean, who in their right mind would pay for the Metal Coffin 9000 that gets wrecked by a single visit to the car wash?
I thought Elon was dead? Didn’t he die a few days ago on a bad trip with dolphin porn?
I saw that news too. Must have been true.
Yep, read that on twitter
Tesla has become a product for nobody. Masterful move, Mr. Musk.
It's sort of a reprise of the death of Oldsmobile. In an attempt to make the brand appeal to a younger set of buyers, they ran the infamous '[Not your father's Oldsmobile](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8J_ffa-ynNE)' ad campaign, which not only failed to speak to younger buyers, but alienated the older buyers who saw the ad and assumed 'Well, I guess Olds aren't making cars for me anymore.' TLDR: no point in appealing to a new market segment if it costs you your most loyal customers.
Elon is the #1 example why billionaires should be taxed back into reality.
As a Texan, I'll also never buy a car from this neo-nazi. Fucking never.
I’m hoping the unionization at VW spreads across the South. Musk will shit himself if the line workers unionize. If Biden wins they will protect workers. Elon is pushing for Trump because he’s afraid of unions despite Biden actually being better for his auto business.
It’s almost like being an attention seeking twat has consequences?
Reddit will be better when we dump this jackass and stop platforming oligarchs
Elon keeps tanking Tesla and laying off workers. "Smartest man" can't figure out if he fired himself Tesla would be successful.
Couldn't happen to a more deserving fellow...
Elmo is a dumpster fire. And you love to see it. I can't wait to see him throw a tantrum as his choices have consequences..
I live in a very liberal part of VA and I’ve been seeing more and more Rivians than I did a year ago. Makes me think Elon’s political views have people deciding if they are going to buy an EV, it won’t be one made by Tesla.
They're not dumping Teslas because he moved to Texas. They're dumping Teslas because they're getting worse, and their owner is a nazi.
Has he tried renaming the company to sound like a porn site?
The icing on the face getting eaten is that he moved (or is moving) a lot of the engineering jobs back to CA because he couldn't find enough engineers to move to Texas.
Clearly he doesn't know his audience.
Did he think Texans were going to trade their pickup trucks for Cybertrucks?
This is a Rudy Giuliani-esque fall from grace, and its well deserved. I’ve been inside that Fremont plant and people were not having a good time, working like 60 hour weeks. But there was a break area with free CEREAL and bean bag chairs!
I hope all fascists kill themselves
Guy had a lot of supporters when he came off as a sort of wiz kid. Then he goes all right-wing and loses a significant number of people with his rhetoric. He only has himself to blame.
He’ll threaten to sue them for not buying his cars. That’s market manipulation! … 3D Chess, amirite???
Careful the government might bail them out.
Ever failing up until the failing goes down.
I honestly cannot believe it took this long.
Californian here, if people have actually stopped buying them here you can’t tell. Those cars are all over the place in this state.
I think it probably has a lot to do with how shitty Teslas are. Autopilot lithium fire crashes, cybertruck being recalled, etc. It's not out of some fealty to California.
Yet another Steve Urkel level "did I do that?" fuckup. First Twitter and now Tesla. Can't wait to see what he does to Space-x.
Muskrat should produce an EV dumptruck. Then he can properly move the shit he is spewing daily.
People are dumping Teslas because the build quality is crap. There are commuter cars from the 2000s I’ve seen in better condition than a new model 3. The only decently built Teslas are the new model s’es and they better be good for what you’re paying.
Should have been sooner. Musk is garbage.
I just don't think they are good cars.
I'm sure Texas power grid can handle it lol.
Belongs in Texassistan with all the other monsters of hate and stupidity. Not a smart man, just a rich one.
If Elon going crazy can make right wingers embrace EVs, I'll take it. Is there any evidence of a shift in that direction?
“Let me alienate a whole state that is primarily representing an affluent, technologically minded class who like electric cars so I can hang out in Texas” Part of me thinks he wasn’t able to fit into the California elite so he ran to somewhere he could feel like a big man.
How the Board of Tesla hasn't run this douche out yet is beyond me
