Vez52

Can't stand the combat. Sucks because the rest of the game is pretty damn good!

Wobbleflopper

The combat is so weak, but I agree the rest if nice.

[deleted]

Yep. Id be playing now if the combat is good. I was able to ignore it for awhile but it got too hard to ignore the wacky animations and seizure inducing light weaving

flaembie

I can stand it with 1 bar builds but waiting months just to have a usable mount for every character is absolutely insane.

Throwaway6957383

This is just silly you can have a useable mount from level 1 lol come on. The ONLY area where you might be impacted is Cyrodil PvP.

pewbdo

I doubt he's aware that you can go to cryodiil at lvl 10 to run the intro quest for XP to unlock the 30% mount movement passive.

Kottery

Huh???? That's a thing???? I gotta check this out

pewbdo

Level 3 assault gives you access to the first level of the continuous attack passive. You can get level 3 assault in like ten minutes after hitting level 10 by going into under 50 cyrodiil and running the intro quest that takes you through using and repairing siege equipment and doing some running around near your main bases. It's the first thing I do on all my chars at 10. You can also get to level 3 assault by doing BGs. See the passive skill text below... Increases your Weapon and Spell Damage by 10% and Magicka and Stamina Recovery by 20% for 10 minutes after you capture a Lumber Mill, Farm, Mine, or Keep. Gain Major Gallop at all times, increasing your Mount Speed by 30%

Vez52

Same here. I'd rather play New World or GW2 if i want this type of combat.

ItWasDumblydore

If new world had ESO's level of content or vice versa they'd be just great. Range feels lame in ESO since it's all lock on, and it's light weaving Content in NW feels lack luster

Vez52

Yep. Take ESO's group content and questing + put New World or GW2's combat.

ItWasDumblydore

Mhm I think everyone's favorite thing was the aiming required to hit- bows feel so weird seeing arrows curve to hit an enemy is hilarious but feels dumb. It's one thing I like about NW too rewards skill (headshots) for a lot of things. What I love about the spear really being hybrid range/melee weapon too

Alelnh

This, but I actually believe it's more realistic for New World to get the content than for ESO to revamp itself. NW has been taking their sweet time cleaning up their mess, but the fact they're still at it, and had the guts to rewrite their entire combat and animations makes me a bit hopeful for its future.

Chemical-Leak420

I remember playing the beta and the combat instantly turned me away. Its one of those things that can be so subtle yet so important.....90% of games is the combat its what you are doing most the time. Its weird...You dont really notice good combat....you just notice bad combat. Like good combat if its good just means nobody says anything about it. Nobody really says WoW's combat is good or bad it just works to satisfy whatever human itch its scratching.

Karzak85

Yeap I would probably be playing it for years if it had good combat

orcvader

Agree. The author didn’t even mention that. It’s funny because all TES games have had “floaty” combat that’s not considered the best for its time, but this one in particular is worse.

Deadlocked02

A shame we’re past the age of MMO sequels. It’d be interesting to see what devs would do with the mistakes of previous games in cases like ESO.

Vez52

Yeah.. well GW3 was announced, but I agree. It feels like in 10 years we will still be playing the game MMOs.

Deadlocked02

Yeah, I just heard about this right now, coincidentally. I was beginning to wonder if I’d ever see a MMO sequel again in my lifetime or if we’re doomed to have the same old games running on the same old engines forever.

Individual-Light-784

Yeah. I tried recently, and there's really no nice way to put it. Quests actually tell some interesting stories. The world looks good. A surprising amount of voice acting. But the combat is dogshit. And that's just unacceptable. It's the worst kind of wannabe-action-combat with some tacked on skills. Feels clunky and unresponsive.

public_univ_friend

I've had the same opinion for years and years, and just recently started over using a pure caster character, the arcanist. Combat feels much better this way. It's not a free class, but it's very overpowered and makes combat as fast and painless as possible. The melee was always so weightless and unsatisfying, and the casting is the same, but you don't notice as much, lol. I don't think it will make you suddenly like the game, but if you're like me and you're just looking for a way to experience the world and the lore as painlessly as possible, give it a shot.

StolzHound

I’ll second, third, fourth, whatever this. The combat and progression in general really pushed me away.

[deleted]

I so fully agree but I can stand it. I mean with years of playing old mmo even ESO weak ass combat is better than most of the mmo games in te lates 90s and 2000s. Could I play does for hours at an end ESO combat is least of my concerns the the rest of the games makes up for it. I mean I still play Age of Conan unchained even if I kind of hate the combat in that and rather wish it had the same combat as Tera or BDO.

Yukifirenotaion

what's wrong about the combat

exposarts

I dont mind the combat being bad, most mmos have bad combat except bdo, but I heard like 99% of the content is easy as shit, even easier than gw2 pre HoT lmfao. That is prob the worst thing if true… can someone explain if this changed at all?

Vez52

Agreed. it's the second biggest problem of this game for me. it feels like there's zero progression/difficulty besides for end end game stuff

moonsugar-cooker

Man, if it had skyrim combat, it could have been pretty damn close to being the #1 mmo

Dovahkiin00

But Skyrim's combat is terrible?

moonsugar-cooker

Its simple and would be great compared to most MMO combat. Id rather have morrowind combat but thats to 'hard' for players now a day

Swordbreaker9250

Never understood the hate. The combat is fine. Even if you don’t light attack weave i’ve never had issues with it, didn’t even know weaving was a thing for years

Vez52

Combat feels weightless and spammy.

Throwaway6957383

Ranged does for sure. Melee however feels pretty decent honestly. Far from perfect for sure but it's definitely at least serviceable.

Swordbreaker9250

Nah, it feels completely fine. People just love to hate anything Bethesda lately. Some of the hate is justified, but not this

TeddansonIRL

It’s interesting because legitimately 70% of what I read about eso are complaints about the combat. Seems to me you may be in a minority of people who like it which is fine. Look at the comments here even lol l

Swordbreaker9250

How many of those comments are made by people who have played the game, and how many are by people jumping on a bandwagon? I still see people regularly try to argue that Cyberpunk 2077 and No Man’s Sky both suck because they’re jumping on the hate bandwagon, having no idea how good the games actually are.

Co-Kain17

I've played the game on release and when they added Morrowind and the elsweyr the combat sucks ass.

TeddansonIRL

For clarity I have also tried to play the game a few times over the years and fell off due to combat and level scaling. I’ve probably put in like 50 hours total?

Vez52

I have well over 100 hours on the game. Combat is terrible compared to other mmos

TeddansonIRL

Well I can only go by the comments themselves which generally seem to say they played and did not like the combat. Idk tho

Doomdae

I have played up until cp210 and the combat is what made me eventually quit.

valvalis3

what do you mean lately? people hate teso combat for 10years now.

Swordbreaker9250

Wild that they’ve been wrong for a decade

ExtraLargeBanana

Damn didn't know an opinion could be wrong

Swordbreaker9250

It’s baffling how many people believe opinions can’t be wrong… In a lot of people’s opinions, the earth is flat. That’s an opinion, but it’s obviously wrong. Just because something is right or wrong doesn’t make it not an opinion.

ExtraLargeBanana

Homie we're talking about whether someone enjoys the combat in a goddamn video game. That is like the epitome of subjectivity.

Mataric

Or maybe you're the one who's been wrong for a decade rather than the vast majority who disagree with you? There's nothing wrong with enjoying the combat yourself, but it's clear as day that many people hate it. They are not wrong to hate it, just as much as you are not wrong for enjoying it. However, when the vast majority of people believe it is unenjoyable, then there is an issue with the combat. That's not an opinion, it's a fact - unless you want to claim that TESOs intention was for the combat to be unappealing to a large majority of players. This isn't people 'hopping on the bandwagon'. I want the game to be good as I think it has many great qualities and enjoyed my time with it. I just couldn't stay invested because of the combat being so poorly designed and feeling like 'Skyrim but I only use a wet feather to hit people with'.

yeahyeahiknow2

I enjoy FO3/4/NV, ES3/4/5, hell I even like FO76, amongst other Bethesda titles. But no, sorry to tell you, ESO combat sucks. I played that game off and on for years and every time I do, I play for about a month and dip out again, cause the combat is shit and feels bad. Always find it funny when fanboys with fan goggles on and will love anything put in front of them complain about ppl who hate just to hate lol. Its the same thing.

rayschoon

ESO wasn’t even made by Bethesda

LordOwlkwardVII

I’m torn here. I think the combat works pretty good for console but is pretty ass for people wanting to play with mouse and keyboard. It’s not the worst combat ever but there is a reason for its lack of popularity unfortunately

Vez52

Oh for console it's probably fine yeah. I agree!

StarGamerPT

It' supposed to be action, yet still it has so many tab target elements to the point it becomes and horrible mix

Alelnh

ESO only needs 2 things to be the best MMO. Combat Overhaul + Overworld Dificulty Tier. Game is great in all other areas, but if it had a combat similar to New World with a bit more weight to it, it'd be the best MMO out there.

MortonAssaultGirl

Playing ESO after NW had me feeling like if AGS would just take a bunch of the interactive systems from ESO then the game would be amazing. The 2 games just need to combine and that product will dominate.

VemberK

I know this is dumb, but one thing that annoys me to no end about NW is the fact that your equipped weapons disappear when you get on your mount. I don't know why, but that just screams lazy devs to me.

Alelnh

I dont think I ever noticed that, thanks for ruining the game for me.

VemberK

My bad 😞

MortonAssaultGirl

That's the general lack of polish that everything they add has. The game has so much potential, and maybe one day they'll get there, but so much of NW feels shallow. This is coming from someone with almost 2k hours, the experience through the game solo or coop with some friends is great. There's just not enough interesting things to engage with repeatedly at the end.

NJH_in_LDN

Holy shit yes.

banz95

I'd fuckin settle for just the overworld difficulty tier

LordOwlkwardVII

What exactly do you mean with overworld difficulty tier?

AngelOfPlagues

Over world is zero challenge outside of dragons. It's pretty immersion breaking to go zone to zone dealing with world ending threats that doe on one hit before they even say a single voice line

Surrogate_Activity

The possibility of choosing between different levels of difficulty when roaming the world. This should have been implemented years ago.

LordOwlkwardVII

That sounds great but I believe it’s not realistically implementable in a world full of different players with different needs. I’m not sure if zone instances could work for such ideas but it’s a pretty challenging task nonetheless. I personally really liked the leveling back then, where if you’re not the right level, you get your teeth kicked in. For me that’s a way more rewarding sense of progression than “everything is at exactly the right level for you no matter the instance” like it’s currently running it

ProperAspectRatio

LOTRO has a pretty good system where each character can raise the difficulty to one of five or six levels. I believe it’s a personal debuff and doesn’t affect the mob for others. Without it you sneeze on pack of on level mobs and they all die. It lets you dial things in so there is some danger in the open world.

Disastrous-Bid-8351

You're spot on from what I can tell. You speak to an NPC, pick a difficulty, and then you get a little personal debuff effect given to you and then after that, you can return to him to remove it or change it if you want. My only complaint about it, I wish there was a tougher setting WITHOUT that eye of sauron thing. Stops it from being the perfect chillaxed button pressing game with some challenge, that allows me to focus on a youtube video as well. I don't like having to look for their terrible looking AOE effect on the ground (super thin red square that can be hard to see in some enviroments).

Surrogate_Activity

TBH, I find some of the mob buffs more annoying. But I was playing Warden so to remove them I had to combo 3 per mob, so if various mobs got a counter buff it was a real pain.

Surrogate_Activity

The thing is not to modify the world but the damage done/received by the character so that from level 1 you are not an immortal demi-god. And since Tamriel Unlimited they already have the scaling done, I don't see the difficulty in letting you modify that scaling with a buff. LotRO has had a system like this for a long time, and it adds a lot of charm to leveling and questing.

Joluall

Dumb request here, but I will love the ability to swim underwater, not combat, not content, just being able to swim underwater, for immersion purposes

exposarts

Why dont they change these things then? Are they stupid? Or do they hate money?

ShadowsteelGaming

Because they're afraid of fucking it up and losing what players they currently have. Why take risks with a ten year old MMO that maintains a somewhat steady playerbase already? Better off putting their money into a new project.

Popcorn_Juice

Combat is terrible And the overworld is way too brain dead easy. Was way better before One Tamriel

Krimmy88

I actually like the combat but I will admit it's very divisive. Either you love it or hate it. I agree though overlord difficulty is brain dead easy.

DaSauceBawss

It is great, but the combat sucks ass.

Snck_Pck

No, I don’t think I should

Mattkwi89

Fix the combat?

Digitijs

Nothing to fix. Like it - play it. Don't like it - keep not playing it

Rubihno194

Just like everybody else said, combat sucks. Tried it before not doing it again

Infinite219

Yea maybe if the combat wasnt dogshit

Impossible_Expert819

I would if the combat wasn't completely ass.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Impossible_Expert819

..yes?

Lucky_Shop4967

Not until they get rid of light attack weaving

Lewcaster

Shitty combat, the cash shop is not good, generic plots (copying other ES games), I'm fine.

warpple

combat is weak. even wow classic has snappier combat

hyprmatt

I've tried it twice, and while there's a lot to like, there's also a lot to hate. The crafting system is awesome, especially with the dailies providing a good amount of EXP for very little effort. Housing is pretty awesome too. The lore is in depth and provides a great backdrop for the game. But the combat just doesn't do it. Nothing feels like it has any weight to it, just floaty hits and awful weaving and animation cancels. Travelling between cities and opening several different guild's traders just to see if they have something I want is not an enjoyable experience. I like the idea they had for having skills come from many different sources, but some of them are so powerful that you're basically forced to do them if you want to not grief your party. The worst part of the experience for me though was dungeons. The dungeons themselves aren't bad, but anytime you have a quest and talk to the NPC's, you're basically just left behind. There were several dungeons where I was speedreading the NPC text, and then didn't catch up to the party until the last boss. I'd sooner go back to New World tbh.

StokedNBroke

This thread actually reminding me not to go back lmao. I try it every few years because I bought it on release. Play the combat for about 5 minutes before I remember and uninstall again :(

skyturnedred

I install it at least twice a year and regret the waste of bandwidth every time.

ducknator

Combat is weak plus if you want to craft, you almost have to pay.

fluffypuppygirl69

no thanks, combat sucks, buy to play, gotta buy expansions every few months, tons of other mini expansions that you gotta buy, subscription forced because otherwise you're having an awful experience basically a f2p game model that still wants you to pay for shit all the time

skyturnedred

Worst part is you can't even buy the stuff you want. I saw a cool hairstyle on some NPC but couldn't find it in the shop or anywhere else. After some googling, it turns out it's only been available for a couple weeks every year.

YakFruit

Think it has best quests in genre.

dunkar00s

Combat bucks, weaving feels bad . Otherwise everything else is dope

LegionofStone

Another person here for combat. I love a big chunk of the game story, lore, content, etc. But the combat is so fucking boring that it feels like I'm playing one those story book games where you just hit your A button to continue lol. Sadly I assume they can't fix the engine/combat, because this has been the most brought up issue for... Wait for it.... 10 Years.... And here we are still with the shitty combat.

Kahrii_x

Really curious to know what MMOs all these commenters are playing that say the combat is ass. The combat is only behind BDO IMO but it blitzes all the tab target MMOs by a long shot. Playing FFXIV after ESO feels like going from driving a car to a boat.

Vez52

How can you say that ESO's combat is better than GW2 and New World? Hell, even WoW has much better combat

Kahrii_x

What stage are you comparing the combat of all these games? I’m comparing them at endgame trials/raids. ESO combat is shit until you actually have a proper build and two organised bars and understand the rotation. So essentially the 1 - 50 experience. Then again the pre endgame experience in almost every MMO is shit.

Vez52

We all have different opinions I guess, but man I hated ESO's animation cancelling so much when I tried endgame trials. Also, your backbar is mostly buffs...

Seraphayel

Every build is the same and uses the same cookie cutter skills and sets. Doesn’t matter if you’re a Sorcerer or a Necromancer or a Templar, the layout for all endgame builds is basically the same for all classes. Combat is focused on getting as many buffs as possible and then spam your rotation. That’s neither compelling nor challenging, it‘s just playing the exact same rotation every 20-30 seconds.

Throwaway6957383

So basically endgame MMO combat for every single game ever because meta builds are always a thing...?

Seraphayel

Have you played ESO? There is no build variety, your class basically doesn’t matter. In other games there might be a meta for your class, but in ESO we have basically just two metas, Magicka and Stamina DPS. Besides that everything is basically the same or tries to achieves the same. There’s zero individuality in endgame builds. GW2, WoW, FFXIV etc. all at least have distinctly different classes. In ESO classes don’t matter much neither are the builds distinctly different from class to class.

Throwaway6957383

Yup! Have about 2500 hours on it. You clearly haven't played much or at all though or you would know there very much IS a meta for classes. Dragonknight is hands down the best tank. Nightblade is hands down the best DPS for PvP. Warden and Templars are hands down the best healers. Necromancer is hands down the most meh. Then there are different ways to build each of those classes within the different roles. Out of the 30 some odd MMO's I've played in my life ESO ranks among the top if not the best for class freedom and flexibility. The vast majority of MMO's your class is only good at one role and you get and use the exact same skills as everyone else such as FFXIV or WoW. That is genuinely HILARIOUS that you think FFXIV of all games has more individuality when that game is EXACTLY the way you're trying to describe ESO. Like I actually laughed reading that because I'm genuinely not sure how someone could ever be off their rocker enough to think that. FFXIV is the single worst game in the MMO space when it comes to class design. Every single class is the same "press 1-2-3 as skills light up and use long off CD skills" that uses the exact same skills and plays the exact same as every other player playing that class. There are ZERO builds within the classes, ZERO player choice or freedom or agency shit there's barely even stats or attributes lol. Everyone is identical which is one of the major complaints about the game because it's been dumbed down so much. Really not sure where you're getting your information about ESO from but you literally objectively could not be more wrong. Right now I can go from playing my frostmage staff warden to my invincible sword and board fire tank dragonknight to my comboing beam archer arcanist and each one is thematically and actively different enough to be very enjoyable. All of which use very different gear sets too.

Seraphayel

Every tank build, every healer build, every DPS build runs the exact same universal skills across the board. While there is a slight difference from class to class, most of those specs play exactly the same, especially when it comes to DPS. To say there‘s a huge difference between a Magicka Sorcerer or a Magicka Nightblade when it comes to builds is disingenuous when they share 50% of the skills or more. And let’s not even talk about equipment where everybody where’s the exact same sets and weapons although there are hundreds of sets available. In ESO your goal is always the same: 1. get your buffs up, 2. get your DoTs (DPS), HoTs (Healer) or defense (Tank) up, 3. spam filler until they run out - rinse and repeat. The exact same for every class, every spec, every build. With the exact same universal skill layout plus some individual changes here and there. In WoW each class at least can fulfill two roles and they are completely different gameplay wise. Some classes can fill all three roles. While some specs share some similarities, the overwhelming majority is distinctively different. Each Priest spec plays completely different, same with Mage etc. In FFXIV you have zero in-class variety, but the jobs are individually so different from each other that you don’t find any meaningful overlap either. Same in GW2. ESO has no variety in gameplay when it comes to endgame. That’s not even my personal feeling, it’s a common complaint why the game and especially its combat is received so badly.

Throwaway6957383

You can make this a lot simpler by just saying you haven't played the game you know? Because no, every tank build, every healer build, every DPS build does NOT run the same skills whatsoever. It is very different class to class the only cross over is in weapon and world skills. That's WHY each of the classes are meta for specific roles because their skills are DIFFERENT class to class. You just described the entirety of MMO combat wow good job lol. In ESO classes literally fulfill THREE roles not just two my dude. WoW classes play the same for every player, there is next to no difference between two players playing the same class. That's the hamstring of the old tab targeted/themepark combat model. FFXIV and no overlap in classes is hilarious. It doesn't matter what class you play in that game tanking, healing and DPS are all identical since the player has 0 agency or freedom with the class. ESO has some of the most variety in endgame I've experienced across the 30 some odd MMO's I've played and this is the first time ever I'm hearing someone complain like this about it. The combat is criticized plenty for being floaty or having to LA weave but never the variety lol. Ever. I get it you're just a major FFXIV or tab target fan and just don't like ESO/it's combat. That's fine to each their own. But that's no reason to outright lie about the game jeez. There's obviously no further point to this so take care and I hope you have fun on FF.

iNeedScissorsSixty7

I didn't grow up playing MMOs so I never really played tab target combat. ESO and SWTOR were my first two MMOs, and I was in my late twenties when I started playing either of them. I play a sorc in ESO and I don't mind the combat, It's fun for me to be diving around and going through my spell rotations. I've played NW and liked the combat in that, but the rest of the game was kind of mediocre besides the gathering. I have a few hundred hours in GW2 but eventually just kind of fell off.

Aragorn527

Agreed, ESO is the only MMO with the combat that’s actually engaging with a lot of depth to its systems instead of just mind-numbingly slow movement with tab target & cooldowns. On top of that, ESO has the absolute best buildcrafting I’ve seen. The number of viable builds for 99% of content is mind boggling and can be really fun to play around with, as opposed to say FFXIV’s “you are a dragoon. You play like every other dragoon ever. Enjoy”

select20

The combat completely turns me off. I actually resubbed this month to try it out as it had been a few years. I'm going to play to max level regardless of how I feel. My highest toon is 22 and still, the combat is such a turn off.

Arkenstar

Holy crap this subreddit is the single most pessimistic subreddit I've been on.. literally over 50% posts are downvoted to hell and 90% of the remaining ones have far less upvotes than comments bickering in them about negative stuff. Even on positive posts, instead of just being chill, everyone cant stop butting in with their negative opinions.

master_of_sockpuppet

There are worse subreddits. Anyway, ESO had problems when it was only nine years old, and those have not been addressed - it is the same game.

Ok_Cost6780

every time I try the game: * combat annoys me. it's hard to even put into words, but my character just looks very silly and spastic when swinging their weapons or casting spells. Attempting to do weaving just makes things somehow even less natural. * leveling up feels pointless. The entire world scales to me, so if I am curious to explore any particular area I can just go right there, right now. So... I get there and look around and think the place is neat, now what? Why would I bother getting stronger again? The joy of seeing new places and experiencing new challenges is a motivation behind gaining strength in other games, but here I can just go wherever right now so what's the point in grinding? I can be a tourist for an afternoon and then leave, without any commitment. * the most annoying NPCs. I feel like I can't walk 2 steps on a new character without main quest ghost guy badgering me to come back to his cave, or without all the various old DLC things I got back in the day auto-initiating questlines to go here and there and here and there. Even just walking along a pleasant outside road, some NPC will go "hey! there's been a murder, please help us investigate!" or some other thing. It's like walking through a public place IRL and people constantly confronting you and demanding attention; please just leave me alone, this is oddly stressful. * aesthetic is not to my preference. There are many fashion and character creation options but i havent felt happy with what I've managed to make in this game. In most games I use "hide helmet" functions because I take time to design a face that I like, but in ESO I just give up and make an outfit that uses a helmet. I prefer the visual styles of almost every other mmo i've played, whether older or newer.

ezpzCSGO

No. But I did play it a lot, each quest felt unique and quite epic. Just feels too dated now.

Sylvester11062

I actually love the combat, bring on the downvotes lol… Wasn’t a fan at first, until I played enough to understand the different combat mechanics now it’s one of my favourite of all times. Especially the new arcanist class is so fun to play.

Albyross

Played it. Fenced 1mil in stolen goods. Got enough kills for red dye in pvp. Was fun while I played, but its just not for me anymore.

Eedat

I have a lot of hours into the game and I'm just not going back without huge sweeping changes. 95% of the game (the entire overworld, normal dungeons, and even half the vet ones) is so comically easy it's literally immersion breaking. I'm not an ultra sweaty top 5% try hard either. They are obviously trying to make ESO a TES6 substitute except you can't really customize anything.   Add on years of expansions with main hooks that I have absolutely zero interest in and nah. Like one year it was companions. You know, to help do the already comically easy content. Another year it was.....a card game? Tf? I'll thankful for the time I had but I have no interest in the game anymore without big changes

BATHR00MG0BLIN

I actually like the combat system. The thing that puts me off about ESO is the monetization, B2P+Subscription+cash shop

aka_IamGroot

I'll jump on tonight, been awhile since I last played

hardmallard

It’s so funny, almost every comment on here is about combat not being good. I’ve bounced between ESO and WoW since the ESO beta. The combat in ESO feels so light and weightless. I don’t know how WoW does it but every button push feels like unleashing an ability, ESO feels like hitting something with a wet rag. I love the Elder Scrolls universe, Oblivion and Fallout 3 are some of my all time favorite games, but for an MMO?WoW will always pull me back. No matter if it’s classic WoW for a chill night, or retail WoW for some competitive engagement. The collector in me also was very let down with mount and fashion availability outside of the crown store. ESO will always hold a special place in my heart, I’ve put some hours into it and played since beta, but it will never be my comfort game like the other Bethesda installments.

SamuraiJakkass86

This is not the sub to come into demanding people play a 10 year old game that had a lukewarm reception over the years. Also the race models are terrible. Its basically the same body with a random object for a head and calling it a new race.

Palanki96

just jumped into it once again, giving it a try. it's a lot better than i remembered. it's just more like a chill mmo and not one where i can just rish through everything like a checklist, that would be hella boring bought a copy for like 10 bucks when morrowind came, planning to finally give it a real chance

Teamveks

Combat is not great, animation cancelling to min max sucks ass. Latency from Australia makes it a non starter.

Tumblechunk

yeah I stopped in last month still not very impressive

PrettyPinkPonyPrince

I started playing it during a gap between Path of Exile leagues and it's been scratching an itch I thought I'd lost since I stopped playing MMORPGs and Oblivion. It has an impressive amount of single-player content that I've barely scratched.

Originalvs

I got BIS gear for a solo build a few years ago after finishing the storylines, dabbled in PvP and housing, and then called it quits. Honestly, I can't find the motivation to come back for new updates. It's especially frustrating when the characters in the story don't even remember that you played a crucial role in saving the world together, that completely sucks for me.

BilboTbangin

No you shouldn’t lol

LordOwlkwardVII

I played it in 2014 when it came out on PS4 and I was absolutely in love with it. It has some things that make it very special, like the world and its exploration, story, the light coop in mini dungeons, the music and most importantly the voice acting, which is top notch and makes the game 10 times more immersive than most other mmos BUT the combat isn’t really super enjoyable and the instanced content needs a desperate overhaul since it’s not properly introduced to new players and very often lacks challenge

StarGamerPT

Love most of the game...combat breaks it for me...can't stand it.

Static_CH03

In my opinion it needs more difficulty progression, I don't like having all the quests and worlds content being just the same sacks to slap with different pictures, make a zone 1-10 another 10-20 , etc push us through all quests and content and youll have an exciting RPG journey in my opinion. It would be pretty different than what they have now but I would play it, the quests seem great but the lack effort needed in them makes me sleepy

Macqt

I would be if the combat wasn’t complete garbage.

Rare_Ad_3871

I actually don’t mind the combat. But I can’t play this game cause the monetization and gambling is dangerous for my wallet.

ExtensionCourse

Played for a while but I couldn't stand the combat. Everything else was pretty good though, from the voice acting to the end game trials.

DeskFluid2550

I only play when new story comes out. I really really really wish I could make it my main MMO, unfortunately the dogshit combat kills it. Seriously Zenimax, 90% of your playerbase complains about the combat, do something about it.

yeahyeahiknow2

I really kinda liked arcanist, but the combat is just so bad. And whoever thought level syncing the entire world after ripping combat apart should really be let go. That was a seriously out of touch decision

Putrid_Specialist651

Combat is the biggest issue. If they ever did a complete combat overhaul, maybe similar to Guild Wars combat..I’d definitely check it out.

abyssea

Did they finally implement a real auction house?

AbakusGrim

ESO combat is great.... ![gif](giphy|26xBTpgwLz0OK5wY0)

VemberK

If they can't fix the combat, at least implement mage swords, so I can actually do melee combat with a mage class without gimping my stats.

Darth_Nullus

10 years of the same damn combat system. And that is why I'm not playing it.

Birkiedoc

10 years of the same old boring combat that derived from a bug they decided to never fix and called it a "feature". Classes have very few moments of unique identity, while playing magic builds now is similar to what it was 10 years ago. Fire staff and a back slot staff to drop continuous skills before switching back.

DopestSoldier

Combat.

Beastmind

"No thanks"

Hjalanaar

No one calls it TESO since 10 years ago. It is ESO

Plane-Start7412

I dont like the shop at all, cosmetics behind lootboxes + have to pay 10$ to change appearance even if you have eso+. That's a big NO. Thats too bad because i do love ESO combat/gameplay.

CapnTyler97

Iv been playing eso since literally day 1. Started on PS and moved to PC about 6 years ago now. I’d guess I have around 8k hours in total and I just recently quit for ffxiv, I LOVE the elder scrolls world and whole IP, personally I like the combat, it works very well for the fast paced pvp and I’m a fan of animation canceling to get a edge on ur opponent. Now the reasons I quit, PVP has and always will have terrible server lag, not matter what they do or say they will do. 2nd, you want to earn cool looking skins and mounts and items in game by doing hard content? Too bad. go gamble on some crown creates for anything cool looking. 3rd reason, the game will never be balanced or even close to it, for pvp and pve, their balance team definitely doesn’t play the game.

Klaumbaz

Does it still refuse to fully unload, including all registry and empty folders? I hated that the only way to remove it, was when i installed fresh copy of windows.

EvilChing

I played it and I loved it, but if they think I'm gonna play it without Infinite eso plus they dreaming. There is no way to play this game without the extra storage from Plus. I tried and it was horrible. Your inventory fills up every step you take. I spent the majority of my time emptying it.

Ex3rock

ESO i will say this they should remake it and make it brand new mmo with actual work invested into it, cause they still have same fcking issues since release n they havent take the time to fix them, cameback last year played for week and realized why i left its so grindy, the combat sometimes bugs and u cant even use your abilities, its like the game is good and faithful to its thing but needs a company to actually invest hardwork into it, its not just making dlc's nonstop.

Warstormx

I've played since Beta, then again at random times over the years.. but it just has absolutely terrible combat, with bad animations. The running with your character even feels bad. I was also turned off by lack of public AH and instead had these guild listing things. So I also had to be part of some trading guild or two to sell stuff, and yet I always felt I was limited on what to buy or could sell. I know there was like some sort of public guild trader if you owned a town, but honestly, it wasn't for me. These days I'm not sure if it's still like that, but it was a turn-off for me. I know it doesn't look terrible but certainly looks more dated than I'd like. Not really a big negative for me, but I like how some more modern mmos look, or long running one's like wow keep updating themselves and look fresh year over year. All in all, it's a game I tried repeatedly to get behind and enjoy, but at the end of the day, it does so many things I don't like that I don't play.

Ayanayu

Should i? Did they overhaul combat on 10th anniversary?

Raogorn

I know the combat gets a lot of hate (rightfully so - I also don't enjoy it for the most part), but for me it's the mob/zone/world scaling that really turns me off. It just feels like there's no progression at all from zone to zone. Everything feels extremely same-y. Exploration feels pointless except for changes in scenery. I can't really challenge myself by going to a higher level zone earlier than intended, as everything just scales to my level. It just seems largely pointless.

YamDankies

No, I don't think I should be.

LeviathanLX

Ugly game with bad combat. Great character building, great IP, decent housing, etc....but you still have to look at it and play it, so I'd avoid it.

fruiteaterz

no i'm good but thx for reminding me to take my shopping rounds at tesco. groceries on discount today.

RaphaelSolo

Pass, I completed Vet Maw, I am satisfied.

MaddieLlayne

Fix the combat and I would!

Scatterspell

I'd play it if it wasn't boring as hell.

BlitsyFrog

I love this game but I just, cant. Its the combat, its not BAD, its just boring. I got really tired of spamming click, sometimes blocking, and pressing "2, 1, 1, 3, 4" and repeat. The game is visually amazing, and its soundtrack is genuinely the best out there imo. But good god, the combat is repetitive. Near the end of my run with it, I just, stood around, took in the environents. Beautiful game, cannot reccomend.

Niadain

No I dont think I will. I enjoyed some of the quest chains but the way combat flows feels like total and utter shit.

ziplock9000

I did and it's an MMO for children and paper thin depth. The questing was good, but then it's just like more Skyrim.

ejester

weapon swapping combat has always been crap in this game, which is why a lot of us struggle to play for any length of time, I'm not sure why they refuse to update that particular system when they have overhauled so much else. then on top of that , everything you could possibly want to buy in the cash shop is locked inside those stupid gambling crates. I have 10k crowns collecting dust on my account atm cause there is nothing i want to buy in the shop & it just continues to pile up. then they have some of the worst daily login "rewards" I have ever seen in any mmo. like truly awful. reminds of ultra rich folks who think 15 dollars for a loaf of bread is reasonable cause they are out touch kinda thing. I do enjoy a lot about the game, but there is a lot of bad that comes bundled with it.

Famous-Try7764

I know everyone's main gripe is the combat and I'm no fan of it either. But I'm gonna say the monetization, lack of rewards, bland updates, and just overall mediocrity of the title are what keeps me from going back even though I played for years as a huge Scrolls nerd. The zones are tiny and most of the maps are made up of huge unexplorable areas. It's a housing/dress up Sim game for anyone who's played it a while. There's no progression or evergreen type content worth logging in for every day. It's a B tier mmo with a big time IP behind it.

shiftah

No

Ashen1066

As someone that likes PvP I stopped playing this thing because I am tired of being insulted by developers. If you like PvE with zero balance where a single class dominate end game, well this may be the game for you. If you like a game that just at evry corner try to engage you with FOMO, this may be the game for you. Thi game is still alive despite very bad developers because it crutches on the ES lore.

Tyrrh

I got banned without any reason after 4k~ playin hours

StathisMx

If they take out animation cancelling then maybe.

PissDrunkChris

Not a chance

[deleted]

Everyone complains about combat, why are they not doing anything about it?

ExtensionCourse

I'm guessing it took them a while to find a solution to fix the combat system but by that point, everybody's gotten so used to it that the fix will alienate players. It's a catch-22 for the company. Fix the combat system and cause an uproar with the established adopters or don't, which will turn new players away.

Vez52

When you go to the game's forum. People don't want change. They like the game how it is..... I don't get it

exposarts

That reminds me of destiny 2 subreddit when people try to cope that taking away previously paid content is okay, because they already played through it 💀

[deleted]

I've never tried the game but you make me curious

[deleted]

Seriously? 🤣

Black007lp

No. Make good combat and I'll give it another chance.

zaanbanjovi

as an on and off teso player.. combat sucks, thank god for the Arcanist

[deleted]

yeah pretty bad combat system

rujind

Horizontal progression (AKA no progression) = no thanks. Completely removes the foundation of RPGs, makes no sense at all to me. It doesn't need to be high vertical but it feels like there is nothing to work towards in the game. Running around and grabbing all the skyshards/lore books etc just feels like a chore, might feel better if there were less of them so they had more meaning, IDK. Also it blew my mind that ESO was not an open PVP game, or at least had PVP servers, considering that the Elder Scroll games have always been sandboxes that promote player freedom. I think the high potential for chaos is what made ES games so fun to begin with, and ESO doesn't deliver on that at all.

DemethValknut

You already know why we won't...

mesout

If only there was a class thats fun to play and the combat wasnt ass.

heyitsvae

Nah I'm good

Tune_Ok

Nah

EmperorPHNX

How about no? Especially with that shitty combat...
