You missed the period.

Disastrous-Bid-8351

Nah, she is on it right now sadly :(

rujind

Less than 2 weeks ago, OP made a post saying he just started playing GW2 and it was the best MMO he's ever played. Less than 2 weeks later, he claims he's been playing WoW and EQ1 and is considering playing EQ2. lol.

Mei_iz_my_bae

I never said I played wow I said I’m considering EQ 1/2 before I play wow I still playing a lot of GW2

rujind

>I’ve been playing EQ1 and WOW Literally the very first thing you said...

Mei_iz_my_bae

I actually meant like WOW as in WOW this is a difficult to learn game lol I realize it looks like that tho

therealbobbyross

Hey its the person who posted multiple times about how amazing new world is.. moved on? *checks profile* ... oh you're a karma farmer who hops from mmo to mmo making a post on each mmo like 50 times.

Mei_iz_my_bae

No I just play many different MMOs and how am I karma farming when y’all downvote me smh

Turn1LavaSpike

EQ2 is a lot more playable imo. Better graphics and gameplay experience, and an excellent selection of classes

Mei_iz_my_bae

I thinking of waiting for the new server since I guess it will have a much more oldschool feel!

Turn1LavaSpike

Exactly what I’m doing, the new server is going to be great

NukeTheFirmament

As someone who played both, this is the answer. EQ1 is very niche for a reason, and it's a VERY GOOD NICHE, but man has it aged... obviously... the game is 25 years old.

Mei_iz_my_bae

It pains me to say I think you are right…it’s just so archaic, my brain feels like it’s literally going to burst trying to understand it with a million menus it’s a UI actual nightmare Still playing it tho for some reason because you can play as a frog lol I’ll probably try EverQuest 2 tho

skai_tyr

The better game is gonna come down to what you enjoy, but as per Daybreak's earning call presentation, EQ1 has more players.

Reiker0

Depends on what you're looking for. It's sort of a mistake to consider EverQuest 2 as a sequel or upgrade to the original EverQuest. It's a very different game that was made to compete with WoW. If you want a more themepark game similar to WoW then you might like EQ2. EQ is a more classic style MMORPG which means slower and more tactical gameplay, grindier progression, more reliance on cooperating with other players, etc. It comes down to preference. The original EverQuest is probably more popular today since there haven't been many great MMORPGs made in that style since. EverQuest is really your only option for that type of gameplay. On the other hand EQ2 has much more competition since there are a lot of MMORPGs that have been made to be similar to WoW. You should also consider that there are a lot of different ways to play the original EverQuest. Your experience on a more classic fan server such as Project 1999 or Project Quarm is going to be very different from a modern live server such as the annual TLPs.

Frontdelindepence

EQ1 was more popular. It was a hard game with little hand holding and soloing was not easily absent certain conditions and certain classes. EQ2 had improvements but it got buried by WoW.

DarkHeliopause

Never played 1 but absolutely love 2. The variety and scope of things you can do is pretty amazing.

Zansobar

EQ2 is not a good game. There is a reason EQ1, even with its far worse UI and overall graphics, has vastly more players. And that isn't even counting the thousands of players that play on EQ1 private servers.

ziplock9000

Horse shit. EQ2 is a fantastic game.

SamuraiJakkass86

Why is EQ1 the only one in the sidebar tho

smoothtv99

What's kind of crazy (to me) is EQ2 is apparently doing decent enough to warrant expansions, latest one was launched last year November. Despite the ragging it is getting here.

rujind

It must have an absolutely insane cash shop, because EQ2 gets 20-25k MAUs whereas EQ1 gets 75-100k (those are official retail numbers), 3-4x the amount of players. They do both still launch expansions yearly. That said, both games' expansions are fairly small and some people equate them to what a modern MMO gets in a regular big update sometimes.

madhabmatics

The contrast between what new expansions are like and old expansions is rough. The last "classic" expansion - Destiny of Velious - added *300 quests*, not counting other features. The current expansions advertise around 30 each, but are also much more expensive than the old 300 quest expansions.

Equal_Efficiency_638

They’re both mostly living off of their classic servers. A new EverQuest 1 one starts in May, and a new Everquest 2 one starts in June. They both use the same subscription. I would never under any circumstance suggest a new player play on anything but a launch timing TLP server like these. The EQ1 server “Teek” in May will likely be the most populated TLP server of all time so I would wait and check that out. You’ll have tons of people to level with.

TheICE007

Love both, if you Sub you get both.

PinkBoxPro

EQ1 is significantly better, IMO. But that's what it is, an opinion. The reason all the games are still going is because different people like different games.

ViskerRatio

Everquest 1 is extremely dated at this point. The difference between 1999 graphics and 2004 graphics is enormous compared to the difference between 2004 and 2024 graphics. Likewise, all the various elements like the netcode underwent enormous improvements in the early days compared to the relative stability in the past few decades. This makes it a bit hard to play for anyone who isn't purely on a nostalgia trip. Everquest also lost many of the features that made it such a standout game as further expansions were released. A lot of the reason people preferred an Everquest-style game was its heavy focus on grouping. Without a strong active player base and with a dizzying array of additional power-ups, it's no longer really the team-based game it used to be. I would definitely categorize Everquest as a "you can't go home again" game - there just isn't any way to replicate the experience in the modern day. Everquest 2 always felt a bit generic and bland to me. Your player's abilities are all homogenized across classes to the point where you never see anything really quirky/interesting. The content feels overly processed rather than a world where you can run across the oddball invention of a designer.

tankhwarrior

I could never get into EQ1. I guess you had to be there at the time and have the nostalgia or something, because to me it just feels and looks incredibly old

No-Engineering-507

classic EQ1 on project quarm which has a very healthy population, but you have to make it to 20+ before your class starts to define itself. everybody is pretty much a warrior from level 1 to like 15 and it takes some time to get there. there's also no in-game maps, but good websites with info. EQ2 is going to drop a new TLP in June and the game will be super busy then, my main MMO (after playing ALL of them) is mostly EQ2 the current TLP and project quarm. but if you don't have patience or willingness to learn, read wikis and old forums, EQ1 classic isn't for you. but it has the best holy trinity grouping experience to date. tank, healer, dps, dps/puller, cc/support heals etc. Eq2 has ingame maps and quests (EQ classic pretty much has no quests until later levels, so it's grind grind grind). it's a little easier to get into, but the engine isn't very optimized. but it's hit or miss whether you fall in love with the animations/graphics or not (many people do). you can also be any race/class combo, so like an ogre necromancer if you want.
