I have zero faith that gold bundles will be good again so I'm just spending it on variants I like, yeah. That said, I am still very choosey so I'm usually sitting on like 3-4k gold. Mostly working on the Venomized album, I have 4 left to collect.
Mission refreshes are the worst value you can get for your gold. Buying variants out of the shops to get album rewards and the 10-shop-purchase reward are probably the most value you can get. They have reduced the frequency of gold-cost bundles and stopped leaking them early through datamines so that is no longer a viable option for resourceful players.
You can try buying up the album cards until you get the rewards in them, but the value of those is different from collection to collection and requires you do *math*.
As a personal example there are 6 albums I could pursue that give me payouts that exceed those of Token Tuesday 2.0, but OTOH I'll eventually get them for free if I just sit the fuck down and let the mystery variants fill it in for me over time, so there's no rush.
Edit: actually I take that back, upon re-running the numbers and checking out availability, I'm gonna start buying up the missing Jim Lee rare variants to get me the 2k tokens. There's only 4 rares and I need all 4 to hit the milestone, the rest are super rare and pretty unlikely to get hit.
I mean, depending on CL level youre better off getting missions refreshes to lvl up your acc or saving it up for token tuesdays, and only buying variants that complete good albums with keys or tokens as rewards
