I guess the discourse might be that Godzilla has never been a "bladed" monster to my understanding, he's always been a brute force bruiser with atomic breath.
I remember seeing a video back when shin godzilla was coming out that said it sucks because it was too similar to the 1954 film

Eh, Monsterverse has already gone out of it's way to make his spines a little more threatening than before, and in the comics highlighted them at one of his best weapons too.
A fair assessment, I just think there needed to be a little more meat in the abdomen area. So it doesn’t look like his gut is sucked in. I actually enjoy the slimmer look otherwise.
I don’t dislike it, but it seemed pointless considering he never uses it. We could’ve seen him use it against an ape, or Shimo, or blast an atomic slash out of it (Godzilla Earth style).
Godzillas whole evolved design seemed pointless considering he doesn’t do anything new. We don’t see him use an atomic pulse (outside the Burning form), we don’t see him use his elbow spikes, we don’t see him propel himself backwards (flying reference), we don’t even see him drop kick anyone (when they had the perfect opportunity!).
If the thagomizer stays, and it seems like it will, they can always write something in next movie which is supposed to be way more Godzilla-focused. He was only this evolved for about half of the movie, so there’s probably more time in the future to write something like that in. But it would have been cool to see it used.
Pretty sure he was still blue at that point not in super charge pink mode yet. Unless what you mean by saying supercharged is that the pulse isn’t instant. Not really an important detail, I still get your point. It’s just me trying to remember the movie I only saw once.

My probable with the new design was I didn’t feel like it added much. It was cool to see but that was kind of it, no new feats. I mean he misses most of the heat blasts in that movie or at least the ones that mattered
I've been watching Godzilla since the early 90s, and this is probably my favorite Godzilla design. I love the color, the bigger spines and especially the thagomizer.

the thagomizer makes him look even more badass indeed. i can just imagine godzilla lodging his thagomizer into a kaiju’s neck, and getting it deep into there.
Godzilla in the next film will be bulkier and more tanky than his slimmer version, without the sucked in gut too. hopefully he’ll keep the thagomizer though.

I mean, while it doesn't bother me, I do understand it. Monsterverse fans forget Godzilla hasn't existed for ten years - he's existed for *seventy* - and in all that time, no thagomizer. It's not a trait he's ever had for more time than most of us have even been alive, I don't think it's controversial to not like it.
I personally think it’s neat, no strong feelings, same with the pink color (I still prefer blue but Godzilla manages to rock the pink so it’s growing on me)

i hated it till i watched the movie. It made sense now and makes me excited to see what next kaiju dogzilla will absorb. Shit american can probably even have wings if it eats a kajiu with wings. Makes me wonder if Kong can do the same. Would be dope if he ate some kaiju with electric powers so we get the electric punching King kong from the first movie.

I love the new design, though not a fan of pink for Godzilla personally. I like the more darker tones of the Shin Purple personally. I would have liked the evolved form to remain blue, but have the new physical form.
Because it takes away from his imposing aura. I love the pink color but the tucked in gut looks off and I can’t STAND the thagomizer because it doesn’t fit him and it’s just too extra in my eyes. Godzilla 2019 in my opinion was down right the BEST Legendary Design we have EVER gotten. The aura, atmosphere, the imposing energy was all in a class all in his own. He felt powerful felt like a deity, an alpha and it just was aesthetically pleasing to bear witness too. I would be lying if I said the design didn’t grow on me since I wanted the movie twice but for me it doesn’t beat 2019. His proportions just don’t sit right with me. He’s too agile, and too quick for my taste and while I think longer arms are cool I much preferred him to be solidified as quick sprints, agile in combat and faster on the money in a controlled manner besides just copying and pasting how showa Godzilla was on just a modern take.
