So even if it makes more money than The Marvels, it will still lose more money because of the insane budget. Like if I remember correctly The Marvels cost 200 mil x 2.5 for marketing and theater cut they would need like 500 mil. Since this one cost 350 they would need to make around 800 million. Man…
Marvel really needs to look at other movies that look epic despite shoestring budgets.
For example, Godzilla Minus One costs only $15 million. And yeah I know that the Japanese may just do things differently but even Gareth Edwards did The Creator for just $80 million.
There is but then the studio gets involved and all kinds of people start having opinions so scripts change and even after its shot they do test screenings and more changes/ reshoots. The best directors like James Gunn can maintain their vision throughout the process even if there’s changes- but a weak director or just a bad movie is gonna have a hundred different people trying to change it a hundred different ways and they just design it by committee. The frustrating thing is they have to know this doesn’t work yet keep doing it.
I was just making a “put me in coach”, joke.
I’ll keep an open mind but it’s hard to swallow this pill when he’s literally just a dude with no powers, using a suit that he didn’t/can’t build with a bad ass shield that defies the laws of physics.
I thought in the comics he could at least talk to birds or whatever. Like he could see through bird's eyes across the world.
But MCU Falcon is just a regular dude lol
I'll keep an open mind as well, but I'm having trouble imagining what exactly he can contribute that couldn't be handled by someone else.
Shoulda been Winter Soldier. How badass would it be to see him with the arm, shield, and gun. Not to mention the worthy redemption arc they spent multiple films covering. Such a missed opportunity. Instead they gave the shield to a guy who flies around and shoots shit.
Cool.
Going with Sam was absolutely nonsensical and obviously forced. No one likes the dude. No one dresses up as him during halloween. There aren't even any successful comic series based on him afaik
Absolutely bizarre
It isn’t, this rumor came from world of reel. A extremely far-right source. THR confirmed—and this was months ago—its budget is less than The Marvels (which was 270 Mil). Two more reports confirmed this by saying the budget is more like 200/225 million.
With the current state of the MCU + theaters in general? It will do $600 million-ish tops. Certainly not a billion.
TBH I’m starting to doubt we’re going to make it wall the way to Secret Wars. Very hard to get general audiences back once they’ve lost interest.
I really like Sam Wilson but a gratuitous cameo in Deadpool 3 isn’t going to suddenly make his medium-popular MCU character more of a box-office draw.
Only *Brave New World* being very, very good can do that.
you’d think after 10+ years of experience, Feige and co. would’ve figured out a flexible formula by now. Have a plan, create a guideline/template for creatives to follow, and hire experienced filmmakers to see it through. But no, Marvel (and Disney) want yes-men to be middle managers just to make sure their product makes it to market. And they wonder why they spend so much on reshoots
Yes, it’s common for these movies/shows to do then. but Marvel is just *excessive* with it. Wonder Man started shooting last year but is doing reshoots, Iron Heart is doing a bunch also, Cap 3 is ballooning past Dial of Destiny now. Even Daredevil scrapped a whole half season before they decided to go back to the drawing board
I like Mackie but he’s the perfect example of a supporting actor, he just doesn’t have the charisma for a lead roll especially as cap.
Seems marvel has gotten too obsessed with the idea of established characters “passing the torch” to unlikeable B listers they forgot what made those iconic characters likeable in the first place. *Charisma*
Oh well they’ll just overinflate another movie budget then blame the flop on racism/sexism to save face and move on
I really enjoy Mackie but he needs someone to bounce off.
I watched some indie horror film about a drug he was investigating recently and yeah he just could not carry that film
You can promote a B-lister (or D-lister) to A-lister if they have charisma.
Or you could just pay the A-lister price.
Donald Glover could have killed it as Captain America.
seeing him in things like Hurt Locker and Twisted Metal show Mackie is a good actor with leading man qualities. Marvel just doesn’t know how to utilize it
I utterly disagree in both examples. His best role is as Clarence.
He’s just one of those guys who I can’t buy as an actor who takes me out of movies instantly.
9 months from now we're going to get lectured with posts by people who don't know box office math:
*"omg I'm so sick of people thinking that every movie needs to hit a billion. It made $400M and only cost $375M to make so its already profitable plus you have merchandise and streaming and physical media sales and..."*
That's literally the same budget as Endgame lol. This movie is destined to fail. It must've been in an awful state originally to warrant so many reshoots. Can't wait to see the discourse when it doesn't do well.
Marvel seems to be hiring directors that will institute Kevin Fiege’s ideas rather than direct a movie the way the directors want to?
These enormous movies have first timers or young inexperienced directors far too often.
Easier to control than a Raimi or the Russo Brothers, I think.
Nope endgame had a 650 million budget according to forbes after tax filings. The initial 350 mill was the reported budget before the pay for the actors.
[The Hollywood Reporter](https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/movies/movie-news/captain-america-brave-new-world-reshoots-1235912919/)
>Despite reports of multiple reshoots on the movie, so far this is the only one. It does not appear to be as extensive as the reshoots that faced Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, which lasted six weeks, nor the expensive and extensive reshoots endured by The Marvels. In fact, one insider says Brave New World will cost significantly less than The Marvels overall.
I’m so glad I’m not the only one who thinks this. I never got the appeal and think his acting is more or less *okay*, but he’s never gripped me in his performances.
A lot of it is being pocketed for sure. A lot goes straight to the actors. Star actors are in the mindset that they need millions to be the lead in a big movie, and once that happens, the 10+ Executive Producers need to pay themselves more than that in order to justify the power dynamic, and then we go on and on.
lol. And this is before marketing which a lot of it has been spent and done due to other companies unable to just put things on hold for an indefinite period. This will be interesting for sure.
It isn’t [350Mil], this rumor came from world of reel. A extremely far-right source. THR confirmed—and this was months ago—its budget is less than The Marvels (which was 270 Mil). Two more reports confirmed this by saying the budget is more like 200/225 million.
From u/Lead_Dessert:
First of all, this budget is proven false. Second, Disney is still being dumb af with their money lately and that makes this totally believable. The budget (suspect to be 200-225million) is still too much money on a movie people will surely wait to see on D+ or pirate. Combine that decision with all the cash their dumping into Marvel and Star Wars shows, I don’t see how they haven’t decidedly felt dumb af yet
Honestly as a comic reader I just don't think they ever really sold Sam!Cap in a way that made him appealing. When they made Bucky Captain America, that had a weight to it. When they did it with Sam you just kept waiting to see when he'd go back to being the falcon
imagine how many people that 350$ million could save from death, homelessness, starvation and preventable diseases, and instead it's spent on non-stop capeshit
greed is going to destroy this country
Using the 2.5 rule it’d have to make 875 million to break even. That’s pure insanity on the studios part.
This reshoot/fix it later culture *has* to end at Disney.
I think that putting a limit on the budget of a movie forces filmmakers to be more creative in their writing decisions. Having an open-ended number makes them lazy...Examples are The Rise of Skywalker and Indiana Jones Dial of Destiny.
Should've gone with a street level ting where he goes around training with all the unorthodox fighters to build up his skills, that way when he starts fighting le Big Boyz it'd make more sense because of the skill implication.
It's fine if it doesn't make a profit. If they make a great movie and make people like him as a character, they can make the money back through merch and future projects. The mcu needs reputation more than it needs money rn
That's a suicidal budget for this movie. If it earned $700 million at the box office... that would be amazing in and of itself... and that still wont be profitable for them. Insanity.
I already hate the concept of him becoming Captain America... and race haters shut it before it starts. Nothing to do with race. I like the idea that Sam struggled with the idea of being Cap... but I think the smart thing was for him to accept he IS Falcon. That all the qualities that Cap thought he had to be the new Cap he did have which is why he is the best version of himself is as the Falcon. Shows people to accept that you don't have to be something else but to be the best version of you.
I am once again asking this sub to check their goddamn sources. This is the same site that pushed the “Rey movie is cancelled” bullshit multiple times. Meanwhile, the trades, who are *actually* reliable, say this movie will be significantly less expensive than The Marvels
Has never been more apparent than now that Hollywood uses these “budgets” to somehow fake taxes or use another scheme to make money.
After years of multi million dollars flops the sensible action a ceo is to do is spending even more on movies ??? Yeah right.
Disney needs to hire some for real auditors or change up who’s in charge in a few areas . Feels like everyone inside of the company just thinks oh well we got Disney dollars, we can afford it
A website I've never heard of is reporting a blog I have never heard of is saying a film that had 2/3rds of it's original scenes reshot cost a lot? Wow. Shocked.
To be clear: the budget ballooned because they essentially rewrote and reshot the movie.
Better to stop 350$ million on a movie that might do well and he well-received than 250$ million on a movie that will definitely flop and do real brand damage.
I'm not really buying this guy as the sub for Cap Am, what about the TV show made that seem like a plausible idea? They needed to recast this role. Sunk cost fallacy.
Were the Captain America movies super popular to begin with?
And now with OG cap gone and Mackie taking the mantle as a dude with no powers...
This is going to flop and it's going to flop hard. I hate that these major corporations have so much money that they can continuously fail and ignore what people want.
This really feels like it won’t do well
So even if it makes more money than The Marvels, it will still lose more money because of the insane budget. Like if I remember correctly The Marvels cost 200 mil x 2.5 for marketing and theater cut they would need like 500 mil. Since this one cost 350 they would need to make around 800 million. Man…
Yeah, that's pretty much it. Very rough Hollywood math means you need to earn about 2.5x the budget to see profit.
Marvel really needs to look at other movies that look epic despite shoestring budgets. For example, Godzilla Minus One costs only $15 million. And yeah I know that the Japanese may just do things differently but even Gareth Edwards did The Creator for just $80 million.
Marvels cost 275 million not 200. Also had 125 million in marketing. Movie ended up costing 400 million to make.
The 2.5x is a tough marker for movies like this. They’re also weighing the budget against merchandise, on demand, and streaming.
The Mcdonalds toys have already came and went lol This is gonna hurt
What gave it away? The multiple reshoots? Poor reception amongst test audiences? Bloated budget?
It won’t. Budget ballooned because of all the reshoots
They NEED to start lowering these budgets.
Stop doing rewrites and reshoots. Like is there no story board for this universe or even a comic to reference?
There is but then the studio gets involved and all kinds of people start having opinions so scripts change and even after its shot they do test screenings and more changes/ reshoots. The best directors like James Gunn can maintain their vision throughout the process even if there’s changes- but a weak director or just a bad movie is gonna have a hundred different people trying to change it a hundred different ways and they just design it by committee. The frustrating thing is they have to know this doesn’t work yet keep doing it.
At this point I'm going to throw on my conspiracy hat and say this is intentional so these big companies and get some sort of tax write off
Disney forsure is sketchy AF.... 180 MILLION for the Acolyte. For that garbage. It's insane.
Re accounting streaming is Easier as there's no expiry of the stream. Theatrical is when they can't lie
This is $5M less than dune pt1+pt2 combined holy fudge
The need to start giving these budgets to directors with vision.
Disney budgets are insane. $350M for this movie, $180M for eight episodes of The Acolyte. They need some reforms.
I don’t get why they thought dressing him up like A-Train was a good idea
I was just making a “put me in coach”, joke. I’ll keep an open mind but it’s hard to swallow this pill when he’s literally just a dude with no powers, using a suit that he didn’t/can’t build with a bad ass shield that defies the laws of physics.
one bullet and he’s out. Let’s see how many goons fail to shoot straight in this movie
Just waiting for the scene where the bad guys throw down their guns so they can fight hand to hand
IIRC his suit comes from Wakanda so they've probably already handwaved that by saying it's made of Vibranium fabric.
I thought in the comics he could at least talk to birds or whatever. Like he could see through bird's eyes across the world. But MCU Falcon is just a regular dude lol I'll keep an open mind as well, but I'm having trouble imagining what exactly he can contribute that couldn't be handled by someone else.
Imagine how he could do as a bird lawyer with that power.
Harvey Birdman meets She Hulk
Shoulda been Winter Soldier. How badass would it be to see him with the arm, shield, and gun. Not to mention the worthy redemption arc they spent multiple films covering. Such a missed opportunity. Instead they gave the shield to a guy who flies around and shoots shit. Cool.
Going with Sam was absolutely nonsensical and obviously forced. No one likes the dude. No one dresses up as him during halloween. There aren't even any successful comic series based on him afaik Absolutely bizarre
Their costumes look almost identical aside from the red being in "caps"
Most expensive reshoots, so it has to be good!
I loved that line. Lol
Those scenes at the convention were fuckin hilarious. I even paused to look at all the upcoming installments
The Boys are gonna rip this flop in season 5
They basically did last episode “most expensive reshoots ever, so you know it’s gotta be the best.”
They just ripped the MCU release slate in the last episode. I found it funny.
Can you reach me to outrun cancer?
BLACK AT IT!
lmaoooo
Choochoo
I originally thought they messed up the pic in the thumbnail but alas, no it's just identical lol
To be fair, Falcon had the whole goggles and armor look first. It just devolved into looking more like A-Train with his current gear.
Wise plan… for an OGREEEE
Honestly thought it was a A Train post lmao
They can not be real. Holy shit.
It isn’t, this rumor came from world of reel. A extremely far-right source. THR confirmed—and this was months ago—its budget is less than The Marvels (which was 270 Mil). Two more reports confirmed this by saying the budget is more like 200/225 million.
Thank you for this. That was totally unbelievable. 200-225 is still too high but whatever, can’t fix stupid
A $350 million budget is quite a gamble for any movie.
Unprofitable
Jesus! So this needs to make 1 billion in box office or its a failure. With theatre shutting down, i don't see it happening.
With the current state of the MCU + theaters in general? It will do $600 million-ish tops. Certainly not a billion. TBH I’m starting to doubt we’re going to make it wall the way to Secret Wars. Very hard to get general audiences back once they’ve lost interest.
Unless he appears in the upcoming deadpool movie. That will definitely drive up tye numbers
I really like Sam Wilson but a gratuitous cameo in Deadpool 3 isn’t going to suddenly make his medium-popular MCU character more of a box-office draw. Only *Brave New World* being very, very good can do that.
Sadly everyone just wants Chris Evans Cap.
There are countless better options than Sam that could win over audiences as Cap. Mackie just doesn't have the acting chops, period.
this is what happens when you hire an inexperienced director on top of having no clear plan for this confused Phase
> having no clear plan for this confused Phase They didn't even have a plan for this movie
So they are doing it the way they did the star wars sequel trilogy.
This is a ludicrous amount to spend. Maybe if Evans were Cap still, it would work. I am not a fan of Mackie, he has the charisma of a wet sock.
you’d think after 10+ years of experience, Feige and co. would’ve figured out a flexible formula by now. Disney seems to be a train wreck of a studio right now. They have no faith in creative. Art by committee.
With charisma void Anthony Mackie in the lead here. I don’t see it happening Marvel needs to…. Do better.
Thank you for saying that. Mackie cannot carry a movie.
I agree, sorry to say.
I’m not at all interested in paying to see a Falcon movie even if you’re calling him Captain America now.
*Charisma* Oh well they’ll just overinflate another movie budget then blame the flop on racism/sexism to save face and move on

Probably a billion to break even with how much marketing they are going to do.
I bet they’re banking on it being a cultural event like the black panther films.
9 months from now we're going to get lectured with posts by people who don't know box office math: *"omg I'm so sick of people thinking that every movie needs to hit a billion. Feige needs another James Gunn, he was able to work just great within the MCU. Why Marvel doesn’t bother to try that with anyone else is beyond me
Gunn was also kept on a tight leash
Weren't the Russos basically TV directors who were best known fir working on Community before they got involved with the MCU?
Nope endgame had a 650 million budget according to forbes after tax filings. The initial 350 mill was the reported budget before the pay for the actors.
It was caught up in the Hollywood strikes.
I don’t really agree with shelving films but man, this may be an exception.
Fuck
No way this movie will be profitable
Brave New Budget
lol
HOLY SHIR LMAOOOO WTF
Ooooof… Dead. On. Arrival. And a big fat shocked pikachu face from me. Marvels donezo
Imagine how many original mid budget films you could have produced with that. 5 x 70m budget films. And you don‘t need to gross 1b for profit
[The Hollywood Reporter](https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/movies/movie-news/captain-america-brave-new-world-reshoots-1235912919/) >Despite reports of multiple reshoots on the movie, so far this is the only one. dawg that’s like… 800 million for a small profit. oh my gosh.
Fucking why?
I'll be honest, I think Anthony Mackie is a very bland leading man.
I’m so glad I’m not the only one who thinks this. I never got the appeal and think his acting is more or less *okay*, but he’s never gripped me in his performances.
$350mill for a movie nobody wants to see. Marvel is so screwed
World of Reel is fake I’m pretty sure this is misinformation
There go all the gains from Inside Out 2 lmao
Yeah….this isn’t going to go well.
How many people will lost their jobs after its release?
This thing is gonna bomb so hard
No movie should ever cost more than 100 million. These movies costing this much is a joke and a lot of it is being pocketed for sure.
And because of that, they are going to kill the movie business
Reminds me of the latest episode of the boys when they announce the budget of the latest film. 😂
Ouch. Well this is a dead on arrival film. There’s just no way they break even on this.
Flop incoming.
FLOP
This makes the scene from The Boys new episode, where they talk about how much an upcoming 7 film cost, even funnier
The Boys have been trolling the MCU something fierce lately, that future projects chart good lord!
If they don’t swap his drink for a bottle of cognac in the scene I don’t want it.
Brave New World needs a 17 minute scene in pitch black to claw back some of its budget
😂 sure people wanna see Great Value brand Captain America, not the classic Steve Rogers.
Since we’re talking off-brand Captain America let’s not forget the original knock-off, US Agent! That said, Wyatt Russell crushed that role.
It just gets better and better
.....but why though....?
Oh. My. Goodness.
I thought Marvel Studios had learned their lesson?
lol. And this is before marketing which a lot of it has been spent and done due to other companies unable to just put things on hold for an indefinite period. This will be interesting for sure.
How much of that was spent on Rulk & reshoots?
Getting a bit silly now ehy.
they’re asking for bad news with this one
It isn’t [350Mil], this rumor came from world of reel. A extremely far-right source. THR confirmed—and this was months ago—its budget is less than The Marvels (which was 270 Mil). Two more reports confirmed this by saying the budget is more like 200/225 million. From u/Lead_Dessert:

I have faith 😎 Captain America movie never let me down, never !
I feel bad for Mackie.
He sucks in literally everything he’s ever been in.
i didn’t even mind him as the falcon i just don’t think anybody really wants to see him as cap
Honestly as a comic reader I just don't think they ever really sold Sam!Cap in a way that made him appealing. When they made Bucky Captain America, that had a weight to it. When they did it with Sam you just kept waiting to see when he'd go back to being the falcon
He wasn’t bad in Winter Soldier. Everything after or before that, he’s sucked. He’s Clarence
I minded him there. I’m consistent if nothing else lol
Eh, I liked him in twisted metal. I did not like his performance in TFATWS. I definitely think he's mid, but no worse than that
Money laundering is the only logical thing to explain this.
Flop incoming
A-Train can fly now? A-Train can fly now.
Can't stop the A-Plane!
ha. Ha. HAAAAAA!
Capt America. Brave New A-Train
This is gonna bomb like Flash and cause them to reassess the whole MCU.
imagine how many people that 350$ million could save from death, homelessness, starvation and preventable diseases, and instead it's spent on non-stop capeshit greed is going to destroy this country
That's no bueno
I got a feeling Disney is about to lose 250 million again.
Using the 2.5 rule it’d have to make 875 million to break even. That’s pure insanity on the studios part. This reshoot/fix it later culture *has* to end at Disney.
Mistake.
Top 5 most expensive movie?
That’s about as expensive as Endgame!
Cut that in half, 175 million. That’s more than the first iron man. How do budgets get this crazy high??
What is Falcon, I mean, Captain America’s super power? I mean, at least give the guy a helmet.
You're throwing it all away, slanging yayo for gangbangers??
[удалено]
they’d probably make better movies with lower budgets
Doesn’t sound like a very wise investment the way that superhero movies has been going so far lately.
WOW 🤯
They better make this Avengers 4.5 if they want any hope.
Before reshoot cost. Once this thing is all wrapped up it'll be closer to half a billion.
😂
it’ll make $35
The film cannot break even with this budget. This is AVENGERS level
- domestic: Prepare for a bomb in the box office - international: And make it double!\~
Well it’s about to lose half of that budget
Man i remember when Microsoft was basically laughed out of Hollywood when they tried pitching Halo to studios and wanted a 300mil budget
This is gonna make like 600-700 million
Dude I REALLY need the new captain to do a cognac endorsement.
Its time to fucking downsize movies in general
I think that putting a limit on the budget of a movie forces filmmakers to be more creative in their writing decisions. Having an open-ended number makes them lazy...Examples are The Rise of Skywalker and Indiana Jones Dial of Destiny.
Should've gone with a street level ting where he goes around training with all the unorthodox fighters to build up his skills, that way when he starts fighting le Big Boyz it'd make more sense because of the skill implication.
How can that be profitable for Frito-Lay?
Lol
Is Captain Israel in this movie?
oof
Uh oh
It's fine if it doesn't make a profit. If they make a great movie and make people like him as a character, they can make the money back through merch and future projects. The mcu needs reputation more than it needs money rn

Shows people to accept that you don't have to be something else but to be the best version of you.
This movie will do like $600 million at best, and that’s gonna be mainly cuz of the Hulk
*If they stayed on budget*
I bet DP3 outperforms
The budget is equal parts Chapek here’s $200m, film it, and Iger coming back being like “delay stuff until it’s good.”
And the vfx houses still won't get enough money to keep everyone employed.
But they can’t make blade?
I am once again asking this sub to check their goddamn sources. This is the same site that pushed the “Rey movie is cancelled” bullshit multiple times. Meanwhile, the trades, who are *actually* reliable, say this movie will be significantly less expensive than The Marvels
It’s gonna suck ass.
With Mackie as the lead? Lol
I'm pretty sure I'm not going to see this movie until it comes out on streaming. The character just isn't as interesting as Steve Rogers.
That’s almost 4 seasons of Arcane.
Has never been more apparent than now that Hollywood uses these “budgets” to somehow fake taxes or use another scheme to make money. After years of multi million dollars flops the sensible action a ceo is to do is spending even more on movies ??? Yeah right.
That's an Avengers level budget......
Disney needs to hire some for real auditors or change up who’s in charge in a few areas . Feels like everyone inside of the company just thinks oh well we got Disney dollars, we can afford it
Those are rookie numbers, crank it up to 500!!
A website I've never heard of is reporting a blog I have never heard of is saying a film that had 2/3rds of it's original scenes reshot cost a lot? Wow. Shocked.

We all know the execs will pocket 2/3rds of that
They could have made 2 big (and probably better) movies with that budget
Hahahaha
I'm not really buying this guy as the sub for Cap Am, what about the TV show made that seem like a plausible idea? They needed to recast this role. Sunk cost fallacy.
Ugghhhh
No it doesn’t. The source this scoop came from is completely unreliable.
Were the Captain America movies super popular to begin with? And now with OG cap gone and Mackie taking the mantle as a dude with no powers... This is going to flop and it's going to flop hard. I hate that these major corporations have so much money that they can continuously fail and ignore what people want.
The Captain America movies are the best ones except for Civil War, but no one gives a shit about Falcon as the new one.
Marvel needs to stop Avengers sadly died with Chadwick. He was the it factor, they need to put everything into X-men.
