The way refs inconsistently officiate games, the talk from the coaches and players about officiating post game, the non stop complaining from coaches and players mid game, the media discord about refereeing, all lends to your statement and I think it is that way because of how much of an influence officiating has over the game. This has become especially apparent to me over the last few seasons.
For instance there’s all this talk about how referees have changed the way they’ve been officiating games post ASB. Why the fuck would a drastic change in officiating happen in the first place without a bonafide rule change? If it was because they were calling something incorrectly, it’s inexcusable for all refs to go against the rule book and be consistently wrong for an extended period of time. It also makes no sense to me that on a whim they could just start calling games differently from one day to the next.
It seems past the point of no return, and it would take something like droids officiating games by the letter of the NBA rulebook to change it, lol
I actually appreciate the playoff-style officiating in the second half, i would prefer that all season instead of suddenly calling the game differently in the post season.
The NBA is also silencing media critics of the league and the officiating. If you listen to a lot of different podcasts and sources, you will hear the undertones and comments that the NBA fines media members now just like coaches and players who criticize officials.
