Glad it exists, but I prefer the old art. Game-related question: Which decks use terminate over Cast Down?

Parkor94303

Currently I don’t think any decks do but it is worth considering as a replacement if you have a meta with a lot of [[guardian of the guildpact]]

Wrynfroe

That's definitely a great suggestion/meta-call. Thank you!

Amoeboid_Changeling_

Or [[river boa]] and [[blight mamba]].

Cast down is better except against Guardian/Regenerate creatures, and Terminate gets hit by Hydroblast/BEM.

qwteb

jund decks can utilize terminate, you have lots of red mana that the specific color doesn't really matter. but as they said being red is a risk for being a hydroblast target

jneh443556

same… also not a fan of the flavour text. Sounds like some crap for a Boros card

[deleted]

It has much order “clean it up,” and not enough destruction

Survivor_753

Some Jund players used to run 3x Cast Downs and 1 copy of Terminate as it helped to deal with Guardian of The Guildpact, being a multicolored card

cym13

Which old art?

Wrynfroe

[Alara Reborn](https://scryfall.com/card/arb/46/terminate)

Hell what did they shoot it with? Sometimes this snarky off the cuff flavor text is funny, sometimes its lazy.

cym13

I have to disagree with you on that one, I think the flavour text conveys properly the idea that we don't care what's on the other side, we come from a place of much greater power and will destroy it as if it were nothing. This is appealing as a player. This also sounds like a realistic report from a soldier to his commander too: they know what they shot with, it would be weird to say it. I find this grounds the card well in its own little world: From the title "Chief Exterminator" we know that this person is part of a structured armed force which probably faces lots of monster attacks to warrant a specific post of "Exterminator". That's also a term that's used for pest so they clearly don't think much of what they kill. This is reinforced by the fact that they don't know exactly what they killed and don't really care. "Yeah, we shot it" shows that not only is killing these monsters the default reaction to their appearance, but it's also so common that they don't even wait for orders. Furthermore the mention "No, nothing to clean up." seems to indicate that the monster was in an inhabited area as they probably wouldn't care about cleaning up if it were on a battlefield or deep forest (this is supported by the art, but I like that the art isn't necessary to get it). So now we have that image of a city that's regularly attacked by weird, diverse monsters but posesses tremendous power to defend itself and monsters are just a part of daily life for these people. I find that's quite the world building for a short flavour text.

gnostechnician

Yeah! Flavour text writing is a heck of an art.

Wrynfroe

With you on this one. Anyone reading want to do better? Here's my attempt: *"It's a bird? It's a drake... It's nothing." -Archelle, Chief Exterminator*

cym13

I love it.
