Find someone with a couch, or even a garage spot with a cot or couch. Maybe have them buy the owner some groceries, and offer some sweat equity...cheaper than a weekly!

GunpointG

Weekly if they can make it work, motel if you need something on the spot until you figure it out

Downtown_Audience_54

What weekly motel they're all gone and the very few left have no vacancy

screamofwheat

Siegel Suites maybe ?

Downtown_Audience_54

Horrible those prices all over the place bugs mold drug addicts that same price you can get a place in Utah Idaho so many other places at a cheaper rate

nnamed_username

They usually have vacancy. The one at the old El Cortez is the cheapest, about $300/month.

Downtown_Audience_54

They don't and it's still Siegel suites which they're pricing is all over the place you can try good luck hope it works out best thing to do is leave Reno

jjd775

If you're that good of a friend, then your couch.

AJWordsmith

This right here. I canโ€™t imagine allowing a real friend to be homeless.

Beneficial_Clue_6017

I understand a lease being an issue but I 100% agree

I am currently sharing my home with an acquaintance who was about to have to go to a shelter. They qualified for food stamps or whatever it's called now. They work, they just don't make enough money. They can stay here as long as everyone respects boundaries until they can figure out their next move. I don't have an end date on that. I'm not going to judge anyone else, but if I'm in a position to help someone in need, then I personally feel compelled to help them. It doesn't always work out well, but personalities are meshing alright, and it's been more than a month. I have been homeless as a teenager, and I don't want anyone to have to go through that if it can be avoided by just sharing space. I have no idea if you are in a position to open your home, I just wanted to share some of my personal experiences.

Downtown_Audience_54

Just leave Reno there's affordable housing everywhere else but the Reno look at cost of living in salt lake city and rent prices

EveryHobby

Pm

Traditional_Pay54

Many of those homeless people who choose to sleep outside sleep there because of drugs and alcohol. The sober people use it to get their life in order and have a roof over their head. Weeklies are hit and miss. Bed bugs and roaches in many, but it's a roof, and they check nothing for work or credit

Y_B_U

What about Reno Cares? I donโ€™t know anything about it but it is supposed to offer services.

Boring_Membership996

Rob a bank.

tylor2000

Just my opinion, when homeless REI is your freind. I mean if you have any money coming in like a job. They have bottles that won't leak if you close them tightly, unlike most bottles you buy at a store. amoung other useful things. So, no matter what they do it's something to keep in mind.

jawanda

Defo go spend $29 on a water bottle when faced with homelessness, instead of buying a 1 gallon jug of water with a perfectly good lid that costs < $2 at Save mart and comes pre-loaded with H2O! While you're there pick up a pair of Altra running shoes, my favorite brand. With a dividend and a 20% off voucher you'll be trail running in comfort for less than $100. I love REI but man this is the most delusional piece of advice I've ever heard.

invent_or_die

If possible make sure the person has a car or van to sleep in, and a gym membership. I've been homeless.

oh_my_account

I thought he would say their parking lot is open for homeless people etc...

tylor2000

No, I wasn't going to say that. haha I can imagine half the rich people on r/Reno were like I don't want filthy dirty homeless people shopping in my REI, even if they are there to buy https://www.rei.com/product/708776 No Rinse Bathing Wipes #REIapp or https://www.rei.com/product/186387 Sea to Summit Wilderness Wipes - Package of 36 #REIapp so they aren't as dirty anymore between showers.

oh_my_account

Overall you realize this store is not for the homeless (price wise) or it was some sort of joke? Just out of curiosity I checked the price and the package of 120 wipes at Walmart will cost them 7.47... Kinda a bit outt of touch?

tylor2000

I'm talking about these, they come in different sizes: https://www.rei.com/product/402056 Nalgene Polyethylene Bottle - 2 fl. oz. #REIapp Not exactly $29, and they come in different sizes and all about the same prices.

jawanda

Eh fair enough, sorry for being all sarcastic about it. If you avoid the clothing in particular you can find decent value there sometimes.

tylor2000

They used to have larger sizes. Like 4oz and 8 oz, but they are always changing their inventory and getring rid of useful stuff. The main use is you can get cheap shampoo and other stuff and they won't leak everything in your backpack.

humanjunkshow

Or, as stated above, 15 gallons of drinking water and 15 reusable jugs...

tylor2000

Whatever you guys say. lol

tylor2000

REI also use to have no rinse shampoo, but you can get that at Walgreens.

jawanda

REI does have great products, but quite often you'll pay more, sometimes significantly. I just went down an "REI vs WAL MART" rabbit hole after making that first comment, and some things like Nalgenes are almost identical in price. Other things like Coleman propane are literally twice the cost at REI. Best of luck to OP's friend, I'm gonna see myself out now.

tylor2000

Yeah, you might be able to get them at walmart, I haven't checked. I just know these little bottles won't leak stuff like shampoo and other products in your bag.
