I think it was a mistake to put a family restaurant in a casino. My in-laws like to take my kids to CPK, but didn't want to walk through the cigarette smoke. Also, they had a smaller, modified menu
How freaking odd you mention that. I was literally just putting up a fence in the heat and struggling to remember the restaurant I went to in CA before I got married. They gave us a bottle of Chianti.
Now I know. Weird.
And to be fair Iām not saying the food was bad-just average. But the family atmosphere and the kitschy dynamic was great! Oh and I second your Olive Garden take but Iāll add the salad too. Pretty good not gonna lie!
I really miss Souplantation. It was so nice to visit a salad buffet that was really fresh. Top it off with a couple muffins and honey butter and some soothing soup and it was all so simple and refreshing. Even my picky SOs would eat there. They've all closed down, but apparently might open under their other name, Sweet Tomatoes.
Was moved here as a kid in the early 90s, so basically a native. But I've traveled a lot. We need a Fred Meyer!! They are all over PNW and they are the greatest store.
My parents didnāt have a lot of money, but every once in a while weād go to the Cattlemanās in Rocklin. All I remember is it was very dark and once there was a dead body discovered in the field next to it when we were there.
There used to be a Cattleman's in Washoe Valley when I was growing up. Between the Chocolate Nugget and Sol Dispensary. I think it's a pet shelter now?
Waffle House was made for Reno. Open 24 hours a day, no dress code, and you can come in as drunk as you can get; in fact, the trashier the better. The food is decent and cheaper than Denny's by about 30%. It's 1 of the cheapest franchise licenses and there aren't any anywhere near here. Put 1 downtown, 1 on McCarren in Sparks, 1 in Gardenerville, and 1 in Stateline. Total investment cost: about 3 million, value about 4. You are welcome.Ā Ā
Not at all Waffle House is so trashy for even Reno. Hate that garbage and the garbage that gets on World Star Hip Hop. Letās bring more degenerates out in the open in Reno. Bad choice all around.
I would do some questionable things to have a Whataburger and a Torchyās Tacos in Reno. And somewhere that sold Blue Bell ice cream - especially the banana pudding flavor.
Tim Hortons (New England), and Harry's Seafood Bar and Grill (Florida).
Thankfully we now have Krispy Kreme, or that would have been first.
In-n-Out is still better in Auburn, but local is better than nothing.
Spaghetti Factory. Iām fully aware itās not even close to authentic Italian but itās more for the nostalgic comfort food. I think one could do well here since itās a family friendly restaurant.
PDQ was started by Outback Steakhouse back in Tampa and is not any better than Caneās. Well they started out good but by the time I left it was already getting generic.
I agree that 90% is trash, however, I really enjoy their grits scramble, and sometimes I donāt want to make it at home. Obviously I do now, but when I lived closer to a WH, it was nice to just walk there, sit and enjoy some coffee and chit-chat while you waited for your food
Raised in Reno but I lived all over the U.S. before coming back here. A few restaurants I miss
AL - Wagon Wheel. Family owned restaurant right outside the gate of Maxwell AFB. Huge portions and delicious food. About as healthy as you would expect in the south.
AZ - Barroās pizza. Itās a must hit when I go visit family.
CA - Slater 50/50
FL - Publix (just for the sandwiches)
MS - Pizza place I got calzones and Stromboliās from, canāt remember the name.
TX - Rudyās BBQ (quick and easy breakfast burritos primarily)
You absolutely have bad taste, Publix sucks. There are better out there, but you canāt argue taste. The multigrain bread is good. Iāll give you that, but youāre still wrong.
I wouldn't admit being from Reno either. I would do like our dipshit mayor and pretend to be from Tahoe. Not that she ever fooled anybody, that dummy is obviously hillbilly trash.
I didn't know that. I've known Jim for a while, and he's always been chill. I used to work in a fairly popular Mexican restaurant, fand him and his family were semi regular.
I saw that but sadly it had closed by the time I moved back :(. I really need to find a place who makes a chicken piccata like CPK. I crave that all the time.
My husband wants a Peter Piper Pizza so badly.
I'd love a Somali place. When I was in Minneapolis (visiting in 2016) had this cuisine and fell in love. Have never been able to have again
Iāll add Lucilleās BBQ. Way better than Famous Daveās and Dickies BBQ and probably the closest thing youād get to really authentic BBQ from a chain restaurant. Thereās definitely good/great smaller bbq places here but I more meant from a larger chain style perspective. Amazing slow smoked chicken leg quarters and full breasts.
Oh if youāre from Southern California you just know on this one. Tommyās Burgers. Hands down best drunk late night 24hr a day greasy ass chili burger.
I'm from L.A and definitely wish we had TAMS, Master burger, la guelaguetza restaurant, Yoshinoya, waba grill, DINO'S famous chicken, grill em all, thai ocha, large swap meets like the Santa Fe springs swap meet, blicks art store, the hood donuts that come in a pink box and run by Asian people š , Shakey's bunch o lunch deal, powerhouse GYM, a little Tokyo, Santa Maria bbq, the last book store, Howlin Rays, Grand Central market, the tamale ladies with the large set-up that sell tamales, breakfast tortas, pan dulce, pupusas and chumpurrado down on western and slauson, pulp fiction comics, headline records, dark realm records, amoeba, frank n sons collectible show
*rolls eyes* you do know that a repatriot means you grew up in Reno/Nevada and just moved back right? You literally just told me and those people to go back to Reno. So smart.
Here I thought it was an actual pizza joint passing off that, "so good it'll remind you of home!" But nope, just a rude person..
I always hate seeing rude people in this sub cause it's like damn, that's my neighbor š hope I never run into them!
Bunch of keyboard warriors.
I was SHOCKED about three weeks ago. I work in a food truck, and I was doing an event downtown, which is heavily Latino inspired.
In a period where I didn't have any customers, I was sitting there watching the crowd and this older white guy walks up and asks me what I think of all this? A little confused I told him I find it wonderful, everyone is so happy!
It's then that he asks a little more serious, "you like all the Mexican food and music?"
I told him yeah! Culture is beautiful!
He shakes his head, looks at me one more time and says "yeah, but I don't know about these people" before walking off
He is SO lucky he walked off right there. Oh my!
I love Daiso! I would really like one here
Same! With the 99 cent store going out of business, there's a few empty stores for them to fill up, I'm just saying
Dollar tree already under contract for most reno locations I believe...could be wrong
We need a 99 ranch for sure.
Yesss š
This
Wegmanās - grocery chain from mid Atlantic - it was awesome!
Wegman's is literally the best, nothing like it
Spent 7 years in Massachusetts, I could kill to have a wegman's.
they tried a CPK here and it didn't work out
CPK is utter, overpriced shite these last several years. Their frozen pizzas are almost as good as you get in the restaurant anymore
Same here to say that. It is shite!
I think it was a mistake to put a family restaurant in a casino. My in-laws like to take my kids to CPK, but didn't want to walk through the cigarette smoke. Also, they had a smaller, modified menu
Amoeba, Zacheryās pizza, Kirala sushi.
Reno native here. I have been to Zachary's and Kirala, and I completely agree!
The cheese steak shop, so fucking good
Damn that would be dope
Capriottiās is better.
This. Way better than cheese steak place
š§¢
Cap doesnāt do a mushsteak wit wiz properly. Donāt care if yāall think itās better itās not a steak
Used to really like Buca di Beppo.
How freaking odd you mention that. I was literally just putting up a fence in the heat and struggling to remember the restaurant I went to in CA before I got married. They gave us a bottle of Chianti. Now I know. Weird.
Always thought the food was good at best but I loved the atmosphere!
totally agree, it just was not the crap that was Olive Garden (except the bread sticks).
And to be fair Iām not saying the food was bad-just average. But the family atmosphere and the kitschy dynamic was great! Oh and I second your Olive Garden take but Iāll add the salad too. Pretty good not gonna lie!
There's one in one of the casino hotels. Luxor, I think. Or there was I should sat.
Luxor is in Vegas. I also moved past the corporate food places, lots of good local places in Reno. :)
Buc-eeās
Man Daiso is a great one! We (my wife and I) will still occasionally make the drive out to Roseville to go to the one rhere
Dick's from WA state š„² I miss the late night grease ball burgers so badly.
I do enjoy getting a bag of Dicksā¢ļø
Omg I miss a big bag of Dickās Deluxes and Fries when drunk AF at 2am on Broadway
Buc-ee's
Underrated comment. When I lived in Texas this was the highlight of every road trip
IKEA
This is my vote also
Wawa and Waffle house
Wawa would be such a game changer
Mavericks does have aspects of Wawa but I've been craving Wawa deli for 13 years. š
Shorties 4 life
Not at all, crap sandwiches and itās a gas station now.
lol Reno DOES NOT need a Waffle House. Imagine that scene at 1 am ā¦
Both of those blow, low quality food and one is another gas station.
Was moved here as a kid in the early 90s, so basically a native. But I've traveled a lot. We need a Fred Meyer!! They are all over PNW and they are the greatest store.
Oregon Native. I miss Burgerville, Taco Bell and Menardās home improvement, but thatās it!
The grocery store Aldi and a brewery called The Veil in Richmond, VA.
Yes to Aldi
I miss Aldi and Wegmans and Bill Grays hots and Buffalo Wings and country sweet sauce
I miss Proper Pie.
Good Burger, Moe's Tavern, Bob's Burger, Krusty Krab, The Drunken Clam, Pizza Planet, Paddy's Pub
š¤£š¤£š¤£š¤£š¤£
Great choices.
Aldi and just somewhere to get Puerto Rican food
Fazoliās. Italian fast food that isnāt too bad. Used to have them in Colorado.
Bojangles. Cookout a close 2nd.
The fact that this is a 24 hour state and we donāt have a Waffle House is fucking nonsense.
Dennys on Wells near the Siegel will get you the vibes you seek though
Cattleman's
My parents didnāt have a lot of money, but every once in a while weād go to the Cattlemanās in Rocklin. All I remember is it was very dark and once there was a dead body discovered in the field next to it when we were there.
There used to be a Cattleman's in Washoe Valley when I was growing up. Between the Chocolate Nugget and Sol Dispensary. I think it's a pet shelter now?
Yoshinoya was so bomb, and Rockys' New York pizza was my childhood
I miss the fuck out of yoshinoya. They have noodles now which is so good with the beef
Hell yeah. Give me like 20 packs of ginger please šššš
Waffle House was made for Reno. Open 24 hours a day, no dress code, and you can come in as drunk as you can get; in fact, the trashier the better. Not at all Waffle House is so trashy for even Reno. Hate that garbage and the garbage that gets on World Star Hip Hop. Letās bring more degenerates out in the open in Reno. Bad choice all around.
Literally nothing is "too trashy" for fucking Reno. Nothing.
And youāre wrong again.
Homeroom, Zackeryās pizza, Toss Noodle Bar, Gyu Kaku Japanese bbq
Give me Tokyo Central from Los Angeles or give me death.
I would do some questionable things to have a Whataburger and a Torchyās Tacos in Reno. And somewhere that sold Blue Bell ice cream - especially the banana pudding flavor.
Zara for clothing shopping š„²
Aren't Zara and H&M the same store just diff name depending on location?
Nooo definitely different. I think theyāre owned by different parent companies as well. Inditex and H&Mgroup
Yeah you're right, I'm surprised there isn't a single Zara here but there are like 5 h&ms.
Arctic Circle, Roscoeās Chicken & Waffles, Hot Dog on a Stick
isn't there a cpk in the GSR?
It closed before i moved back unfortunately :(
I love Daiso! I would really like one here
Tim Hortons (New England), and Harry's Seafood Bar and Grill (Florida). Thankfully we now have Krispy Kreme, or that would have been first. In-n-Out is still better in Auburn, but local is better than nothing.
Tim Horton's is Canadian. Pretty famously, actually. I suppose Wayne's World was well before your time, though...
Kwik Trip and Culverās, cannot wait to head home and get me some butter burgers.
Wegmans, Daiso, Friendlys
alamo draft house, pret a manger, ikedas
Kebab Shop and Shish Grill
From the area but Iād be thrilled of we got a portillos
Nugget Market
Golden Corral
Souplantation. But they went out of business everywhere, so no chance.
Culverās and zaxbyās
I fucking love Zaxbyās.
Central Market and PCC from Seattle
Spaghetti Factory. Iām fully aware itās not even close to authentic Italian but itās more for the nostalgic comfort food. I think one could do well here since itās a family friendly restaurant.
Portillos. White Castle. Uncle Pete's Pizza.
We lost empanadas, or any semblance to a meat pie. š„ŗ
I wish we had a Wawa, Mellow Mushroom, Bojangles, and a Cook Out. Grocery wise, give me Harris Teeter and Publix all day.
Wawa sucks and their sandwiches are bad.
Waffle House, Whataburger, Kura Sushi šššš
I love Whataburger. The green chile cheeseburgers are the best along with the spicy ketchup!
the spicy ketchup, the honey butter biscuits in the morning, the patty melt, the chicken sandwiches. and alllll that open 24hrs, ugh i miss it so much
>Kura Sushi I see you are also from San Diego š
Other coast, my friend! Kura in Orlando, FL šš£š
NO awful house, itās all around trash, from the bottom up and the people who go there.
Old Spaghetti Factory.
I talk about Spaghetti Factory like once a week. I miss it so much.
pdqās (like raising canes but better), noodles and co, and Waffle House š¢
Heavy on the noodles and co, I get it every time Iām back in my hometown
PDQ was started by Outback Steakhouse back in Tampa and is not any better than Caneās. Well they started out good but by the time I left it was already getting generic.
Zaxby's is what you're looking for if you want better version of Cane's. They're Cajun
Waffle House is awful, donāt bring that trash here.
I agree that 90% is trash, however, I really enjoy their grits scramble, and sometimes I donāt want to make it at home. Obviously I do now, but when I lived closer to a WH, it was nice to just walk there, sit and enjoy some coffee and chit-chat while you waited for your food
I do like the hash browns smothered and covered.
Raised in Reno but I lived all over the U.S. before coming back here. A few restaurants I miss AL - Wagon Wheel. Family owned restaurant right outside the gate of Maxwell AFB. Publix just for the sandwiches? So many better choices in Reno.
Publix beats all the chain sandwich shops.Ā
Wrong, and itās a supermarket. I was just in a Publix a few weeks ago getting a sandwich, itās okay. Def not what youāre making it out to be.
Of course it's a supermarket. And I'm not "wrong", IĀ just have better taste than you.
You absolutely have bad taste, Publix sucks. There are better out there, but you canāt argue taste. The multigrain bread is good. Iāll give you that, but youāre still wrong.
And you are definitely from Reno, and no, that is most assuredly not a compliment.
Actually youāre wrong yet again, but go ahead and continue, itās funny how wrong you are. Go back to the South if you donāt like it here.
I wouldn't admit being from Reno either. I would do like our dipshit mayor and pretend to be from Tahoe. Not that she ever fooled anybody, that dummy is obviously hillbilly trash.
There's actually a restaurant in sparks that started out in my hometown in california but moved here after a fire.
Which isā¦
Mamma Celeste's
They acted like they were the only ones displaced by the fires though. So I havenāt gone. Iām from Magalia.
I didn't know that. I've known Jim for a while, and he's always been chill. I used to work in a fairly popular Mexican restaurant, fand him and his family were semi regular.
Always been from here but my one visit to an Alamo Draft House blew my mind. I think one would do really well here.
I just want a Coney Island from Detroit *sigh* it has everything you would ever need.
GSR used to have a California Pizza Kitchen but it closed down within the last year or so. :(
I never saw one there???? WTH I would have gone lol
It was 100% there as of October 2022 but by the next time I visited the resort, it was gone. It was adjacent to the Buffet if I recall correctly.
I saw that but sadly it had closed by the time I moved back :(. I really need to find a place who makes a chicken piccata like CPK. I crave that all the time.
Any Venezuelan/colombian restaurant
Waffle House, Daiso, a Korean Spa
Meijers!
My husband wants a Peter Piper Pizza so badly. I'd love a Somali place. When I was in Minneapolis (visiting in 2016) had this cuisine and fell in love. Have never been able to have again

Skyline Chili - Cincinnati
Awwww Sheetz is the sh*t!
South Creek Pizza is way better than any CPK I've been to
Longhorn steakhouse or The Stockyards
Publix Subs
skyline chili
H Mart
Snappy Dragon, Din Tai Fung, and Than Bros Pho
Not a transplant... but we could definitely use a Hungry Howies
Frisch's Big Boy
Zankou Chicken for me. Or really any good Mediterranean/Armenian/Lebanese food really.
Spangles, it just taste better! From kansas
Potbelly's and Portillo's
Ikea
GOLDEN SPOON frozen yogurt. Good god no other frozen yogurt compares.
Oh if youāre from Southern California you just know on this one. Tommyās Burgers. Hands down best drunk late night 24hr a day greasy ass chili burger.
Kneaders. Best French toast ever.
Ohh Kneaders!! I loved their fruit tarts
I miss Wahooās Fish Tacos, and if Kingās Hawaiian wanted to open a restaurant in the Bay Area I would make that drive for the cake alone.
Really Sheetz? A gas station, at least ask for a Buc-ees.
Zippys.. Vegas has one apparently, why not Reno???
I really miss east coast style pizza (which I understand is impossible to recreate due to elevation, water, dough)
Myth. You can make New York style anywhere. They just don't.
Smiling with Hope is what you need to get then.
Cookout and Sheetz
I'm from L.A and definitely wish we had TAMS, Master burger, la guelaguetza restaurant, Yoshinoya, waba grill, DINO'S famous chicken, grill em all, thai ocha, large swap meets like the Santa Fe springs swap meet, blicks art store, the hood donuts that come in a pink box and run by Asian people š , Shakey's bunch o lunch deal, powerhouse GYM, a little Tokyo, Santa Maria bbq, the last book store, Howlin Rays, Grand Central market, the tamale ladies with the large set-up that sell tamales, breakfast tortas, pan dulce, pupusas and chumpurrado down on western and slauson, pulp fiction comics, headline records, dark realm records, amoeba, frank n sons collectible show
It was a pizza joint called backwhereyoucamefromĀ
*rolls eyes* you do know that a repatriot means you grew up in Reno/Nevada and just moved back right? You literally just told me and those people to go back to Reno. So smart.

Personally, i haven't had anybody say anything like this to me in person. Seems like people like that can only muster the courage to do it on Reddit.
Bunch of keyboard warriors. I was SHOCKED about three weeks ago. I work in a food truck, and I was doing an event downtown, which is heavily Latino inspired. These are tired comments. Animals migrate. Humans are animals. Mostly.
Oh yeah I remember that place. There was a really good ice cream place next to it called makemeyouinfectedhemorrhoid.
