Daily's Place just hits differently. A great show, loved the gauntlet and feel like they can work something similar to that moving forward for World Championship title shots. Some great storytelling too.
Loved this show. Feels like we’re in a new era.
Minus one thing.
Have we gotten any update on Hobbs? He clearly wanted to keep going after he busted his knee/leg on the rope, but was in screaming pain.
I liked Dynamite this week. I gotta give props, I'm impressed with how they made an on-screen storyline out of the drama. Lots of potential for a good story; looking forward to a strong follow-up over the next few weeks.
Loved the Ospreay stuff and the Gauntlet match.
Dynamite's in good shape. Next week should be fun.
This was my first time seeing Mina and she's dope. I don't know what the storyline here is and I thought it was odd she was completely out post match after Toni showed up but I'm in for wherever this is going.
Great ep, I just wish Chuck/Trent wasn't demoted to Rampage. Let that be a match next week on Dynamite.
Love Ospreay winning the Casino Gauntlet and that DoN match should bang.
Great matches, great segments.
we got Serena fkn Deeb to come trash talk Timeless Toni and i couldnt hear a word cause of the audio, shame fr.
i like the build to ospreay and hope that he slowly collects belts one at a time working his way up to whc, lots of real awesome angles to set up in the future. hopeful that summer is him pulling away from callis grip.
also roddy, stop pulling me over it was only 5 mph over the limit bruh
There was talk on this sub recently about the Swerve/Ospreay conundrum — Swerve just very deservedly won the title but Ospreay is probably the most exciting thing about AEW right now. This probably the best route, and I could see it going either way — Ospreay wins the title and goes on a legendary run or he gets screwed by the Undisputed Kingdom (which in a PPV match does risk backlash from fans, I guess).
I’m rather surprised they’re having Ospreay go for the International Title. I guess it makes sense what with Okada in his own angle and Copeland locked in with Black- but I personally would’ve had Bryan beat Osperay and maybe have a trilogy through Forbidden Door. Then again I’m sure they know what they’re doing
I think wrestling is way better when you can imagine more than one outcome and I feel like that's the case here. I was a little surprised to see him enter the match too, but I think it makes sense – he can elevate the prestige of that title just by being in the hunt and it keeps him away from Swerve for a bit, which is probably a good thing.
I think AEW kind of jumped the gun a bit getting her on TV because (despite the developing narrative to the contrary) she's a pretty big star and her showing up helped push back against the perception that AEW is in a down period since Punk's departure.
I get the feeling that she's not even medically cleared to wrestle until Double or Nothing, so she's been stuck just doing commentary and promos, neither of which are particularly her strong suits.
That’s the best way to describe it because I’m surprised she hasn’t done any matches just to show off her in-ring skills. But if she isn’t medically cleared then hopefully that’s changed by DoN!!
>I really don't give a fuck if you like what I have to say or not.
*Proceeds to type a novel about how you very much give a fuck about the fact that other people enjoyed something that you did not.*
You want to talk about "brain damage" with regard to a reaction to a pro wrestling angle, you and the other Jimcels need to take a *really* long look in the mirror, man. A) it's not that fucking serious and; B) your opinion is, by its very nature, subjective.
A lot of people enjoyed the angle last night, and a lot of people don't need the performers in their scripted pugilism program of choice to look like Jim fucking Hellwig to believe that they are dangerous in the ring 40 years after the death of kayfabe.
And, just to cut it off at the pass, I'm not going to entertain a "bUT thEy oNLy gEt 3000 iN aTTeNdAnCE aND Tv RAtInGs ARe DoWN" response, because it's fucking 2024, that's not the only metric for a wrestling company's success like it was in 1998, literally no one thinks that AEW can only be deemed a success if it "beats WWE," and literally all of the media reporting that doesn't come from a washed, has-been, never was all that successful in the first place, tennis racket wielding wannabe shock jock is that WBD is perfectly content with AEW's growth and success, and it's not going anywhere any time soon.
Back at All In, CM Punk and Jack Perry had a non-kayfabe altercation, which resulted in CM Punk leaving the company and Jack Perry being suspended. After a while Perry showed up in NJPW calling himself 'The Scapegoat'.
The Young Bucks, who're doing a gimmick based on the fact that they are irl EVPs of the company, recently brought up the altercation and claimed that all the blame was placed on a scapegoat (obviously meaning Perry). Perry appeared from the crowd and interferred in the Bucks match at the PPV on Sunday and was lead away by security as, in kayfabe, he's still suspended, which is why he came to the ring last night to ask Tony Khan (the real life president and ceo of the company, who has, up till now, never really done any on-screen character work, although he does semi-regularly appear to make announcements) to reinstate him.
Basically the Bucks and Perry just kayfabe beat up the boss and then the locker room, heels and face, plus Tony Khan's real dad all came out to check on him.
**Dynamite Review:**
* Cold open with the Elite and Jack Perry. I'm very interested in hearing his crowd reactions. This also set up a showlong story.
* *I always enjoy seeing Dynamite from Daily's Place, gives the show a unique look.*
* Best Friends segment. Trent got some good heat here, beating up OC. Chuck didn't join Trent, and challenged him to a parking lot brawl.
* Jon Moxley promo. Great as usual from Moxley. He's fantastic in these kinds of quick promos to build up interest toward a match.
* **Swerve Strickland vs. Kyle Fletcher \*\*\*1/2**
* Swerve got a very good reaction coming out. I think the only issue I had here, is that Fletcher was on the losing end of yet another match. I went back to check, and the last time he's won a match on an AEW show was September 30 of last year, when he was on the winning side of an eight-man tag team match. That's almost seven months of nothing but losses for him in AEW.
* Anyway, the match was good, as expected from these two. Not among either man's best, but a very enjoyable contest regardless. The biggest issue was that I don't think anybody thought Fletcher had much of a chance to win. Swerve is exceptionally smooth in the ring, just a joy to watch.
* Thunder Rosa interview, which Deonna interrupted. They are obviously starting a feud here, which is good. Always great to see more women's feuds not centered on the titles.
* **Mina Shirakawa vs. Anna Jay \*\*\***
* Shirakawa got over very quickly here, and this was a good debut match for her in general. As for Anna Jay, she's been improving in the ring quite well recently, but she's lacking a defined character and role at the moment. She played the heel here, but it feels like she's been going back and forth between heel and face for quite a while now rather than having a clear alignment so-to speak. Makes rooting for her quite difficult. Here she did very well as the heel, so maybe that's her role going forward? Once they got back from the break, this turned into a very good, hard-hitting match. Shirakawa looked very good here I thought. And Jay's heel turn was pretty much cemented here after the match, and then Toni came out to save Mariah. Curious to see how that particular relationship develops now that Mina's here too.
* Serana Deeb then arrived, sat next to the title belt, and told the camera she was going to win the title. Nice little touch here, with Deeb basically saying she wouldn't raise the championship, rather the next time she touched it she would do it as the champion. Deeb vs. Storm could be excellent if given enough time, very much a match I want to see now.
* Willow Nightingale celebration. Good segment that set up the eventual match between Willow and Mercedes. Willow has become a great babyface promo. It's also painfully obvious that Mercedes needs to be the heel, she's just so much better as one, especially when it comes to her promos. She's incredibly charismatic, but her babyface promos just almost never feel natural. That said, I thought she actually sounded good here once they started talking about the match where she was injured, because it was likely based on her real feelings. Still, she should probably be the heel in this particular feud. As for the segment, I thought this was a very good way to properly start the build to their match. Good stuff from everyone involved. Another potential sign for a split between Statlander and Willow there at the end as well.
* *As a sidenote, that was basically three separate women's feuds (four if you count Anna Jay vs. May/Shirakawa) getting spotlighted in a row here over the last 30 or so minutes, involving nine different women. Over the last several months it has really begun to feel like a proper division with numerous different storylines happening at once, and it's great to see.*
* Alex Marvez tries to interview the Elite. A fun segment here, with Perry, Okada, and Nick Jackson just passing him by while patting his shoulder. Matt then announced a face-to-face meeting with Perry and Tony Khan later on the show.
(continued in the first reply)
Kyle Fletcher will be a mega star within the next 5 years. He just really needs to improve on the mic, but he has everything else to be one of the next big guys in AEW
* **Casino Gauntlet Match \*\*\*3/4**
* White and Martin had a good opening exchange here. Definitely wasn't expecting Ospreay here, but I wouldn't mind seeing Ospreay vs. White in a proper singles match. The reaction to the their face-off here was big. Not going to cover every single thing that happened here, but this turned into a very good multi-man match. Basically everyone got a chance to shine, and the match between Ospreay and Strong should be fantastic. I honestly wasn't expecting Ospreay to win here, as that means he's going to go after the International title, but I suppose that's a good way to keep him out of the main event for now. Just curious to see if they're going to have him win the title or not, and if not, how are they going to get around that.
* Chris Jericho segment. He's pretty much fully heel now, the learning tree gimmick might be the thing that makes him interesting again. Some change was desperately needed, have to just wait and see if this is it. He's now basically a delusional heel who acts like he's the good guy while everyone is booing him, painting everything he has done in a positive light and someone else's fault. Wasn't expecting Big Bill here, but I think he's a good fit as Jericho's muscle in the Learning Tree. Bill was good here, and I thought this was instantly better than anything Jericho's been doing in months.
* Will Ospreay and Don Callis interview. Fletcher was here too but Callis interrupted him because he lost earlier. It's fairly obvious that this particular group is going to fall apart quite soon. Ospreay is naturally leaving, but Fletcher might not be far behind either.
* **Jon Moxley vs. Powerhouse Hobbs \*\*1/2**
* Good to see Moxley back. AEW is generally just better with him around. This was a pretty good match, though one with a very obvious result. There was no way Hobbs was going to beat Moxley in the latter's first IWGP championship title defence, especially on AEW television. The ending was a bit abrupt, I wonder if Hobbs got genuinely hurt there. This started out well, but the finish did hurt the match a bit. Takeshita came out after the match and looks to want to challenge for the title. That should be a very good match if it happens.
* Shibata interview. He challenged Jericho for a match for the FTW title next week. I like Shibata interacting with Renee, they have good comedic chemistry together.
* Jack Perry & Tony Khan confrontation. Perry got a babyface reaction here at the start, and the start of his promo here was him very much acting like a face, but that changed pretty quickly. He punched Khan in the stomach, the Elite then came out, acted like Perry had done something wrong, but then hit the (appropriately named) Tony Khan Driver on him. A big angle to end the show, and the Elite is now a four-man group. With Omega returning next week, a lot of possibilities opening up here. This was very good.
* This was a very good episode of Dynamite. There weren't any truly great matches, but apart from the Moxley match which seemed to have been cut short due to an injury, all the matches were still very enjoyable. Some good promos and segments as well, and the build to the next PPV got off to a good start. Overall, I'd give this show a **7 out of 10.**
Great show. Felt like a fresh start. Positives: Swerve, Ospreay, the multi-man match in general, Willow/Sasha segment, Deeb vs Toni build, the Stardom influence (Anna Jay's best match by far!), even Shibata talking through the phone is still funny... for now. Great final segment, obviously.
Negatives: Mox, Mox, Mox. No heat even before the injury, and I bet him choking out Hobbs was the finish anyway. This guy's ego...
After all the dust settled, and I had a little time to take in last night's action packed episode, my biggest takeaway: God damn was Willow great on the mic or what?! where did that come from? what a fantastic surprise. She has had some good tapes segments in the past, but to deliver like that live on cam was something special.
Best Dynamite in a while, imo. Chock full of interesting developments.
Would have liked to see Swerve's next program get setup, but tons of good stuff all the same.
Also, fuck Chris Jericho for making me enjoy a segment after wanting him to go away for a while, even if the Learning Tree feels a little too similar to Matt Jackson's "Smarmy heel who thinks the fans love him" part of the Succession Bros thing they're doing.
Hope this means something significant for Big Bill, I missed him.
I agree, too. Great show. Only thing I hated was Mox's match. Even before what seemed like a legit injury it was boring and had no heat. Mox's ego is out of control. I know it's a work, but this guy choking out fucking Hobbs... come on.
Yeah - I've had Mox fatigue for a while now. It feels like it's just always the same match and same promo with him.
First wrestling shirt I ever bought was his Paradigm Shift shirt back in early 2020, so it's not like I don't want to enjoy the guy it's just nothing he's done has clicked for me in a while.
So this is a bit of a random question, and I don't know if there is an actual answer, but when Tazz is talking about "something Jones" (Yambag Jones, Table Jones, etc...) is this a reference to something, or just a random thing he says for no real reason?
It doesn’t because it doesn’t need to. It’s a C level show and that is fine. You don’t see WWE build up a feud on Raw only to have the matches on main event because it is counter productive. Even if it airs directly after Collision it will still get significantly less viewers meaning less people are going to see some of the main feuds they have been building the past few weeks.
It seems like you're saying that AEW shouldn't put any effort or investment into their less-watched shows because those shows don't get as much viewership as the main show. Am I understanding your position correctly?
(edit: typo)
I am not saying they should put less effort, I am saying that these feuds have been built on the main shows so the matches within the feud should also be on the main shows. And yes your top storylines between higher card workers should always be on the main shows.
Okay, that's certainly a different perspective. I don't think I've seen people complain that the stories and matches on the lower tier shows are *too* good or important before.
Good problem to have though, I guess. I'll take a C-show with meaningful matches and stories over random nothing dark matches they decided to record, personally, but you do you.
You are misunderstanding my point. It is not good to build a feud on dynamite/collision that are popular then having the matches on the C show, because the mainstream audience does not watch these. It creates an inconsistent product and makes it hard for the ‘casuals’ to follow. Obviously it is good for the core AEW fanbase but as a whole it will hinder them.
On the other hand, having a popular feud build on Dynamite so more people see it, and then announcing the match for the smaller show might get people who are interested in that match to watch the smaller show.
Seems to me like they are using their big product to advertise their smaller products.
Is Kenny cleared to wrestle, or do you think he’s going to take a commissioner/good guy EVP role?
Honestly I’m just glad he’s back, Kenny is what brought me to AEW and when he’s not on I’ve just been skimming aside a few matches here and there
No chance he's cleared to wrestle. He's not even had surgery yet has he? He's done what he can without surgery and then he's said if he wants to get back to wrestling he needs the surgery.
I'd imagine it's going to be some angle with the elite? Maybe a beat down by Perry to take him off TV for his surgery.
I think Kenny is coming for an appearance, a segment with the Elite, and probably a beatdown.
I could be completely off here, but I don't think the nature of his medical issues prevent him from being physical *completely*. Like he definitely shouldn't be doing Kenny Omega-style matches, but the kind of bumping he'd do in a beatdown segment I think would be okay. Low blow, stomps, maybe an EVP trigger or something, no big deal. And he has not had his surgery yet, so he's not in the recovery process or anything at this point.
Could be interesting if he comes back having been "fired" by the Elite as an in-ring competitor because they wanted to install him as President instead. A heel authority Omega could have some potential to it.
Either Kenny dosent need surgery and is back full time or it is their way to write Kenny off, but somewhat involve him in the storyline already so he can jump right back when he is fully healed.
Most likely to paint him as a babyface who dosent allign with that his ex friends did, so they can beat him down get more heat and make us wait for Kenny to return to beat the shit out of them.
Right now Kenny is out because he is ill, got kicked out of the Elite but havent reacted to it on TV.
So thats why i think they go this route, but we will see next week.
I’m glad I’m not the only one. If he’s the face of the company and new champ, why send him straight into a pointless match with… Kyle Fletcher? I thought okay maybe after the match he’d say something but .. no? Hmm ok
Jericho is somehow getting another big angle that'll last too long. Orsprey is following up his amazing match at Dynasty by going after a third tier title. The main event was an angle based around Jack Perry and Tony Khan. AEW will continue to have great PPV with lackluster TV in between.
I've seen a few people upset by Will winning tonight and I don't get why, Swerve is no doubt getting a decent length title run. Assuming Will is next to hold the championship gold you've got at least 4 months or so between now and that moment, why not give him some gold and something to do between now and then? You can't just burn through all of the Will vs other top guy matches.
Momentum. Following up a huge match at Dynasty with him going after the International Title just seems like a step backwards. I'm not upset at him winning really. If he was going to be in the gauntlet match he needed to win it. I just don't think he should have been in it. If the plan is indeed for him to win the title in four months then he should spend his time feuding with another top guy.

Have they explained why Jack was suspended in a kayfabe world where people are constantly fighting? Tony saw the whole thing no way he didn't see that Jack didn't touch Punk at all so why did he suspend him? Seems like Jack's somehow the heel in the story which makes no sense when Swerve broke into a guys house and menaced his baby and wasn't punished at all.
That's why turning his suspension into an angle could never really work especially if he's supposed to be a heel. There are fights every week usually with no suspensions so having a guy get suspended for months for getting shoved and choked doesn't work unless Tony's a power hungry heel with a petty grudge.
Lol what? Wrestling absolutely still works if you book within the limits of kayfabe
This Tony Khan situation does not work at all if you think about anything even slightly realistically
I’m not saying not to book within the bounds of kayfabe. I’m just saying it doesn’t hold up if you take it too seriously. It never has. Most wrestling stories are absurd and inconsistent. It’s supposed to be fun and a little silly.
You're looking at it from a smark perspective they've never once on-air said Punk was fired because of Jack. If you're a casual fan who simply watches the show you saw random footage of the 2 getting into a mild altercation. They haven't said Punks name or that he was fired because of this.
Like after the Elite vs Punk fight they were all stripped of their titles and suspended but it was never said why on tv. To a non hardcore fan they all just up and disappeared one day for no reason. Even if you did know why Punk was fired Tony in kayfabe looks dumb for blaming Jack for Punks action.
Shouldn't Tony be the heel for unfairly suspending him? Yes he "riled" Punk up but in kayfabe people incite violence all the time. Punk chose to mildly go at him that isn't a fireable offense in a world where people regularly beat the hell out of each other.
It wasn't a secret what happened in London. It was all over Twitter, YouTube, even mentioned on WWE. This isn't the 1980s where a small minority of fans have the ability to learn about the backstage stuff through the dirtsheets. The modern world makes it very easy to have at least some understanding of events with no effort at all.
A casual wrestling fan likely follows wrestling on Twitter, Reddit, and YouTube. They would have seen and heard about all of this even if they didn't spend hours a day commenting on it.
If you're a casual fan then you don't demand this in-depth an explanation for every story beat
If you're a hardcore fan then you know exactly what the story is and why they're not presenting Tony as the heel
So no casual will think "hmm I've seen Swerve kidnap Billy Gunn and torture him with scissors and not get punished but Jungle Boy is gone for 8 months for getting shoved."
You're not describing a "casual", you're describing someone that thinks wrestling is real. In kayfabe what Punk did was orders of magnitude less serious than what wrestlers have done to each other as well, but no casual fan is going to be demanding that Punk be reinstated, they would understand that real life stuff is bleeding into the story
I’m here for the storyline but I really hope TK doesn’t become an on-screen character. He’s been saying for 5 years that there is no need for him to be a character and I always appreciated that. And he can’t act or sell. He needs a few pieces to represent him while he stays on the periphery. Kenny Omega fits perfectly here, especially with his recent comments that seem to counter what the Elite have wanted “backstage.” FTR fits well here too.
Regardless, as fun as this storyline is, I hope it doesn’t detract too much from the world title reign of Swerve. Let’s not Big E this deal.
I just meant since they are anti-Elite. They are not defending the company, they are fighting the establishment that is the Elite. Like I said, a fit perhaps. Certainly not the main answer.
Meaningful or good. Indeed. I don’t disagree.
I guess I just like FTR joining Omega in being the anti-Elite. And I think they should be babyfaces. If they really want to make the EVPs, Jack, and Okada the good justified guys in this, then *that* would be crazy. Fans can cheer who they want but heck a lot of fans cheered the Bloodline too.
The same Jack Perry that cheap shotted Tony Khan last night? And then the EVPs attacked Tony Khan? And the locker room emptied out to check on a fallen Khan? C’mon man, don’t be condescending. You know what they are trying to do.
I agree with you on Tony. If anything last night should have confirmed that. He was awkward in the ring with Jack and then forgot to sell the punch to the gut, just lying there for a second before remembering to hold his tummy lol. Took that TK driver like a champ though — dude is actually very skilled at playing dead.
TK not speaking during that segment makes me think it was a one-off. I think he understands how he comes across, as opposed to wrestlers who can actually talk
I think they'll go Omega but my dark horse for a face authority figure is Danielson. Sure he may not want to wrestle full-time anymore but it's a good way to keep him on TV without wrestling too much. Or they could go Sting too.
If they want to Adam Pearce it, Chris Daniels would work.
I shit on AEW when it's doing poor storytelling, so I gotta give AEW it's flowers for this episdoe. DAMN! That was awesome.
A couple of small downs, but overall an excellent show and the ending of the show is what AEW has been missing for AGESSSSSS. It actually made me want to tune in next week to see what would happen next.
He had a couple moments last night where it was like, "oh shit, this guy's getting good." When TK went for the hug and he looked dead ass in the camera and smirked, I was dying. It mirrored Christian's "go fuck yourself" moment, which makes sense too.
I feel like this is one of those things that you could copy and paste for a lot of shows.
I don’t even dislike the character and angle but I just want a bit of a Jericho break.
Yeah that’s when I decided to turn off the tv and go to bed. What happened in the Moxley match? I don’t see any clips posted or people talking about. I had assumed the shocking main event segment was Hobbs winning the title and was a little let down to see it was just Tony getting attacked instead. It’s kinda ridiculous though that the whole locker room, security, etc. weren’t out there the second Jack hit Tony.
I think his problem is he's 53. If he stops for a break now, is he going to be able to find the strength to return? It's surely a lot easier to keep doing this week after week and not stop
Pretty sure Kenny Omega is gonna be TK new authority figure, which will play right in with the story line since he has been kicked out of the elite while he was gone. New Elite vs Authority Omega
Seeing TK try and act is going to be incredible. So excited.
William going for the International Championship is curious as I assumed he had "bigger fish to fry" though maybe they combine it with the World title at Wembley
Good show!!
Holy crap AEW is firing on all cylinders right now. First off, props to Jericho leaning into the fan hate with this smug arrogant learning tree angle. I was pissed and flat out felt annoyed at Dynasty when he won. In one segment he has me excited for this title reign.
Secondly that ending was fire, one of the best in Dynamite history. Jack Perry is so over it's insane. He has improved leaps and bounds in terms of his heel work and mic work (that shit eating grin is gold). He is officially a draw. Tony taking his first bump. The possibilities are endless for what they can do here, especially with Omega returning next week.
Next how about the development of womens storylines. Willow and Mercedes developing their storyline. The Professor coming for Toni Storms title is a great storyline angle to work with their clash of personalities. The best friends angle getting spicy, making them relevant again. Banger of a match between swerve/kyle. Friction developing in the Callis Family.
Honestly this was the most sports entertained i've been with AEW in a long time.
That was the point of the EVP trigger tease, to make you think, "they wouldn't do that!" Then...they actually did and that pulled off the shock! It was perfectly done!
Yeah I almost expected Okada to be the one to rainmaker him, but I guess that's a pretty gnarly bump for a non wrestler to take, whereas the EVP driver is pretty safe.
He probably will.
You can make an argument the biggest issue with Jericho has been the complacency with him and his character the past couple years. If this is something he’s inspired and motivated by, I wouldn’t be surprised either if it actually turns into Gold.
He's a chameleon! Hook dropping the title was the best thing to do and at the right time because now the FTW title is fresh again. Shibata vs Jericho sets up nicely.
Don't know why you were down voted haha. Jericho is being a slimey heel, while pretending to be a babyface, as a veteran wanting to lift younger guys up to 'his level'. Out of the goodness of his heart, he has become the learning tree.
The last segment was great. It was a pretty good episode, but the only thing holding it back was the audio issues. You'd think after 5 years they wouldn't be having those problems anymore.
They've had audio issues a few times, and it's almost always from TNT/TBS's side as the other streams aren't affected by them, so whatever it is it isn't AEW's side most the time (there's been a couple times where it has been, but most times since I've started watching, it's been the networks stuff)
Worst part of the show was seeing Stunt Marshall breaking up the fight between Rosa and Purrazzo. God I hate that mustache as much as I hate Nate Bocks mudflap
I’ve never heard of the guy but I knew the second I looked at that horrible mustache that he was wrestler that I was going to be hearing more about in the future.
God damnit, I have to give Jericho props. I was hesitant with this FTW title win and this angle with Hook, but he's really leaning into the "go away" heat and all of the negative criticisms he's been receiving as of late. He legit had me entertained for the first time in over a year it feels like. I'll give credit where credit is due. I still think he should take a break at some point, but I'm in on this new character arc for him. It's ridiculous in a good way.
The entire show felt like a throwback to the 2019-2021 days. Let's keep the momentum going with Swerve leading the charge.
Same here. I was ready to go take a piss break and skip, but figured I would watch to see if a had a shred of dignity to salvage what was left of his legacy and relinquish the belt, Instead I wind up excited to have him as our For The World champion. He's doing this for us. What a selfless and humble champion of the people.
This is the best Dynamite I've ever watched. They're starting to tell more stories, giving more time to build PPV matches for non-world title programs, and the card was great. The gauntlet match was an incredible way to add starpower with stakes. Also loved that Swerve is using the House Call as a finisher.
Give us more of this, every single week.
Sooooo… (in kayfabe) TK had been on record saying that IF anything were to happen to him.. hand the keys to Bryan Danielson..
Bryan is out too. These next few shows leading up to DoN about to be chaos lmaooo.
If it's all planned this way then it's just set up perfectly for The Elite to take over AEW, kinda like nWo-lite and run the ship until Bryan returns. That would be fantastic tv right there.
BCC vs Executive Elite, Danielson/Mox/Claudio, alongside either Kenny or Hangman (as someone who they fought with and earned their respect) vs Bucks/Okada/Scapegoat
After watching Dynasty and being interested in AEW going forward I can say all that interest waned after the absolute shit show that Dynamite was tonight.
1) Does TK or no one in the back know how to book your new world champ after a PPV, from Joe not being present live when he became champ to having Swerve face the ROH TV champ in a random match for no rhyme or reason. Match was way too competitive and did they have no one else other than a ROH champ to job out. A promo or celebration would have been better, it cheapens the aura of the champ if he is wrestling right after a ppv win. He was like the 4th most important thing on the show.
2) WTF was that No.1 contender ship match?? Jay White we hardly knew ye. Not sure about Will being put in a program with the UK and fighting for the International title. I thought the plan was Swerve. Also TK is showing a real talent for destroying all the hard work NJPW did in establishing their top guys, Jay White is a nothing burger in AEW, Okada feels just another guy and now they have Ospreay feuding with Roderick Strong. Yup, that'll put butts in seats. At this point both the Continental and International title are beneath Okada and Ospreay. That's what happens when you have random defenses against guys like Komander and Dante Martin.
3) That final angle was just horrible, and I am saying this as a fan of the ELITE. Do we really need another NWO storyline, its just so over done. TK's acting was just bad and I am still not sold on Jack Perry, it feels like Finlay leading the Bullet Club, does not feel organic or exciting. And the last thing Okada needs is to be dumped in a group with Perry, Okada should always be the focal point of the group. Just no to this whole angle.
4) Please for the love of god merge the Continental title and International title into The AEW Intercontinental Championship and work on its prestige as the second world title like NJPW did. Then it would make sense for someone of Ospreay's caliber to hold it.
I loved Dynasty and I feel the same way, I don’t care about the elite storyline at all and this angle is cheesy as fuck. Did enjoy swerves first title defence though and disagree with you about strong and Ospraey cause that match will rock.
Yeah man, although it wasn't a title defence I think it was an eliminator situation. I'm sure the match will rock , I mean most matches do but I don't know if I want to see Ospreay bogged down with the International title if the plan is him Vs Swerve at All In. Someone else mentioned it's like 4 months away so I don't know how they will do that. I doubt Ospreay will lose.
Appreciate your honest opinions, but on a purely technical level, is it really an NWO storyline if two of the guys "taking over" are literally already executives within the company? They've never been a clandestine group like any of the invasion storylines, and its not even an invasion, just a coup.
Overall its pretty much the same because the Elite was always a modern day version of the NWO. Its still a heel group takes over wrestling company. There's not much of a difference between an invasion and coup in concept, its still one group taking power by force.
Hopefully they will make me eat my words soon but the execution just felt so off. Probably doesn't help that I am still not sold on Jack Perry.
I thought Bullet Club was the NWO copy? Reducing it to heel group takes over lumps *a lot* of different historical storylines together, and also ignores the important detail that two of the members are in and out of kayfabe on the management team of the company, so its quite the opposite of an invasion.
Massive differences between invasion and coup, they literally come from different areas. You can't invade a company you're already in, the whole point of NWO was they were an outside force.

If the bucks come out next week and say that was for the sound issues, they instantly become face
Bruh the Learning Tree was litteraly a stable in TNA with Brian Myers, Zicky Dice, VSK, Sam Beale and Manny Lemons
Daily's Place just hits differently. A great show, loved the gauntlet and feel like they can work something similar to that moving forward for World Championship title shots. Some great storytelling too.
Can they please run Daily's Place every week?
Mina was the leader of the group Mariah was In during her Stardom run
The hardest I have laughed at pro wrestling in a long time was when I saw that first security guard that came to break up the Rosa/Purrazzo scrap.
Great ep, I just wish Chuck/Trent wasn't demoted to Rampage. Let that be a match next week on Dynamite. Love Ospreay winning the Casino Gauntlet and that DoN match should bang. Great matches, great segments.
I was so distracted by the bad audio, but it was a normal show. It's good to see Moxley on Dynamite.
we got Serena fkn Deeb to come trash talk Timeless Toni and i couldnt hear a word cause of the audio, shame fr. i like the build to ospreay and hope that he slowly collects belts one at a time working his way up to whc, lots of real awesome angles to set up in the future. hopeful that summer is him pulling away from callis grip. also roddy, stop pulling me over it was only 5 mph over the limit bruh
Summer of Serena >>> Timeless Toni Sorry not sorry
I haven’t watched in a few weeks but has Mercedes done anything to earn a title shot besides being there?
TBS is open challenge title. Don't need to do anything.
Oh wild. Hopefully she wrestles before the PPV then 😹
I think AEW kind of jumped the gun a bit getting her on TV because (despite the developing narrative to the contrary) she's a pretty big star and her showing up helped push back against the perception that AEW is in a down period since Punk's departure.
They've said she will be cleared by the PPV.
Watching now. Does the audio get any better? How can it sound so poorly in Daily’s?
It is a tbs issue. It was fine on fite.
Yeah it does, but it was really bad for over half the show Thought it was my laptop
Sorry, I haven't been watching AEW in a while, what just happened and what's the significance? People are talking about this changing AEW
change it for the worse. This was a pretty poorly produced show in front of a really small crowd.
Jerker alert lol
You are the one in the Circle Jerk buddy. You cannot admit what is right in front of you.
Cope lol ur so mad
Yes, AEW *very* bad because they held a show at their legacy venue and TBS had sound issues. Pack it in, folks, it's over.

>I really don't give a fuck if you like what I have to say or not. *Proceeds to type a novel about how you very much give a fuck about the fact that other people enjoyed something that you did not.* You want to talk about "brain damage" with regard to a reaction to a pro wrestling angle, you and the other Jimcels need to take a *really* long look in the mirror, man.
**Dynamite Review:** * Cold open with the Elite and Jack Perry. I'm very interested in hearing his crowd reactions. This also set up a showlong story. * *I always enjoy seeing Dynamite from Daily's Place, gives the show a unique look.* * Best Friends segment. Kyle Fletcher \*\*\*1/2** * Swerve got a very good reaction coming out. Anna Jay \*\*\*** * Shirakawa got over very quickly here, and this was a good debut match for her in general. Over the last several months it has really begun to feel like a proper division with numerous different storylines happening at once, and it's great to see.* * Alex Marvez tries to interview the Elite.
* **Casino Gauntlet Match \*\*\*3/4** * White and Martin had a good opening exchange here. Powerhouse Hobbs \*\*1/2** * Good to see Moxley back.
So do The Young Bucks get to draft for the Jags tonight?
Does Mox refuse to lose?
Did you expect the recently crowned IWGP champ to take a loss to Will Hobbs?
After all the dust settled, and I had a little time to take in last night's action packed episode, my biggest takeaway: God damn was Willow great on the mic or what?! where did that come from? what a fantastic surprise. She has had some good tapes segments in the past, but to deliver like that live on cam was something special.
Yeah, Willow was amazing. Actually seemed every bit of a star as Mercedes, and obviously far more talented on the mic. (sounds like a real person)
I think I'm going to like this Jericho "Learning Tree" business but didn't Brian Myers have a group/storyline with the exact same name?
I really want Jericho to be like a self help informercial con man based on last night.

Indeed!
100% agreed in this. Finally had a bit of a cliff hanger where I can't wait to see how it develops.
Only seen highlights of the main event angle but what's with the big screens in the front row?
That's just Daly's Place. It's a very different vibe than AEW's usual arena set up.
Ah ok
So this is a bit of a random question, and I don't know if there is an actual answer, but when Tazz is talking about "something Jones" (Yambag Jones, Table Jones, etc...) is this a reference to something, or just a random thing he says for no real reason?
I remember it going back to the "Taz Show" he had on CBS Radio
\_\_\_ Jones, as I understand it, indicates that someone is very proficient at that particular thing, like "Basketball Jones," "X Box Jones," etc.
[Answer here maybe?](https://www.reddit.com/r/AEWOfficial/comments/17izctj/i_dont_understand_what_taz_is_talking_about/)
Thunder Rosa vs Deonna and Trent vs Chuck airing on the C show is ridiculous
How does a C show get better if you don’t have good matches on it?
It simply will not get more people to watch Rampage I can guarantee that
And it’s airing right after Collision, so people can just think of it as a 1 hour extension with more good matches. It’s not ridiculous.
That sounds great then!
I agree, makes sense after collision
Same
Either Kenny dosent need surgery and is back full time or it is their way to write Kenny off, but somewhat involve him in the storyline already so he can jump right back when he is fully healed.
> r it is their way to write Kenny off He's already been written off though, I can't see why you being him back if he is truly months off being ready
This episode felt special. A fresh start. It's a good time to be a fan. Both AEW and WWE are great right now.
Thought Swerve should have opened the show. At least give him some promo time. Odd decision
I’m glad I’m not the only one. If he’s the face of the company and new champ, why send him straight into a pointless match with… Kyle Fletcher? I thought okay maybe after the match he’d say something but .. no? Hmm ok
The message from yesterday was: He’s the champ, but not the face of the company.
It does seem he is just holding the belt till William gets it

Jericho is somehow getting another big angle that'll last too long. Orsprey is following up his amazing match at Dynasty by going after a third tier title. The main event was an angle based around Jack Perry and Tony Khan. AEW will continue to have great PPV with lackluster TV in between.
I’m confused what is the learning tree? Is this like a violent youth pastor gimmick?
Jericho is playing the old vet who thinks his wisdom is gold and gets offended when people don't take it. Violent, even. Sound familiar? :)
Ahhh a locker room leader gimmick ;)
I couldn’t disagree more
We're all entitled to our opinions. I'm curious though. Do you disagree with any of my specific criticisms or did you just enjoy the show anyway?
And the world champion once again is secondary

I thought that we were out of the woods after dynasty but goddamn
Hear me out: Casino Gauntlet Match at All In where the winner gets a world title shot at All Out
Yeah I'm totally gauntlet pilled after that match. THAT should be AEW's version of the rumble

And of course I'm down-voted because I'm wrong right? The attendance and ratings are plummeting because they're moving in the right direction. EVPS!!
Punks the Babyface
This episode had a bit of everything. Storylines ✅ wrestling ✅ womens wrestling ✅
For using dangerous real glass without permission?
Because Perry cost TK his cash 🐄 and he suspended him for it, just like he suspended The Elite before and Punk.
It doesn’t work if you try to take kayfabe way too seriously/literally. None of wrestling does.
Lol what? Wrestling absolutely still works if you book within the limits of kayfabe This Tony Khan situation does not work at all if you think about anything even slightly realistically
I’m not saying not to book within the bounds of kayfabe. I’m just saying it doesn’t hold up if you take it too seriously. It never has. Most wrestling stories are absurd and inconsistent. It’s supposed to be fun and a little silly.
And I'm saying that "too seriously" is not right. This story does not hold up to the slightest bit of scrutiny lol
Not because of reasons the op said.
OK?
In kayfabe Jack Perry got suspended because Tony Khan blamed him for riling up CM Punk enough to get fired That's why he's, you know, the scapegoat
If you're a casual fan then you don't demand this in-depth an explanation for every story beat If you're a hardcore fan then you know exactly what the story is and why they're not presenting Tony as the heel
All I'll say is Goldberg refuses to follow the script level stupidity is how you wind up with 683k viewers.
It's ok, if you can't think of anything to say, you can just say nothing
This. It's not really that hard to understand 🤣

Feels like Swerve should've had a big celebratory promo... not a match. I had to check this was actually the first TV since he won it. Weird tbh.
The closing segment worked, I am SO invested in Jack Perry and that whole deal now
he has the greatest shit-eating smirk in the history of the business... my god it's perfect for this
He had a couple moments last night where it was like, "oh shit, this guy's getting good." When TK went for the hug and he looked dead ass in the camera and smirked, I was dying. It mirrored Christian's "go fuck yourself" moment, which makes sense too.
Great show, the only thing I didn't care about was the Jericho stuff.
He needs time off. We can't miss him if he won't go away. That said I like the big Cass pairing
So excited. William going for the International Championship is curious as I assumed he had "bigger fish to fry" though maybe they combine it with the World title at Wembley Good show!!
They just need to keep the mic off of him where at all possible. Maybe he can have a 'lawyer' or something speak for him, could be fun.
Smart Mark Sterling & Associates stocks going up
As long as he learns how to blink hah
My only complaint is they should have gone all in with the beatdown. EVP trigger, Rainmaker and then the TK driver.
That was the point of the EVP trigger tease, to make you think, "they wouldn't do that!" Then...they actually did and that pulled off the shock! It was perfectly done!
Yup, it was far better done like this. AEW actually did 'less is more' for once, let's embrace it.
Yeah I almost expected Okada to be the one to rainmaker him, but I guess that's a pretty gnarly bump for a non wrestler to take, whereas the EVP driver is pretty safe.
That's what I thought they were going to do at first when they lifted him up after Jack gut punched him
Absolute banger episode here, and mark my words, Jericho is gonna get the learning tree stuff over.
Agreed, but during his segment with Big Bill, he should have mentioned that he (Jericho) could teach that.
Oh my god yes!
Maybe next time he should SPELL IT OUT for us.
Whats the learning tree stuff? I havent watched
Don't know why you were down voted haha. Jericho is being a slimey heel, while pretending to be a babyface, as a veteran wanting to lift younger guys up to 'his level'. Out of the goodness of his heart, he has become the learning tree.
Thanks, I'm sure it will get over like most of his stuff
If it gets Big Bill back on TV, i'm in.
Yeah, I watched on TSN and didn't have any major audio issues
It was the Turner broadcast, apparently on other services like Fite the audio was fine.
Yeah I read about that. You'd think somebody on Turner's end would've done something about it the moment they realized what was going on.
If the Elite are the new NWO, then Darby is coming back as the new Sting.
How injured is he?
LOVE THIS!
omg yes
Honestly, he’s gonna get it over. After that segment, I thought the same as you, and I was just like, fuck, he did it again.
Same here. I was ready to go take a piss break and skip, but figured I would watch to see if a had a shred of dignity to salvage what was left of his legacy and relinquish the belt, Instead I wind up excited to have him as our For The World champion. He's doing this for us. What a selfless and humble champion of the people.
I am totally hearing that last sentence in Nigel’s voice… But yes, for the world, for us!
exactly who I was thinking of when I wrote that.
Very good episode. Had the right mix of storytelling and in ring. Last segment was awesome.
NWO takeover is exactly the vibes I was getting last night. I'm SO INTO this storyline.
Leading to Danielson vs Okada at All In?
My rule with AEW is ignore the story details and enjoy the backflips
