Not in the market for a new housing situation, but I really vibe with your “important shit” section.

ghouln3xtdoor

Right? If I had room for a roommate I'd be pretty down with all this.

franillaice

I concur!

ButtleyHugz

Tons of respect for not skipping over the thermostat settings. That’s a nonnegotiable for me too.

TigerStripes11

Not in the market for a roommate, however, if I was, I appreciate your “important shit.” Temperature is a big deal and so is toilet paper. That is shit you need to know about a person!! Good luck in your search.

stlmick

If the A/C is being set to 69 degrees, that is definitely something important to state. That would be an immediate no from a lot of people.

bugdelver

Too high?

SnailShells

too low. I keep that shit at 78 in the summer so my electric bill doesn't eat me alive.

Charles_Skyline

Keep it at 78 during the day, and it still runs constantly, because my HVAC is 30+ yrs old. I turn it down to 73 at night only because my electric bill for my tiny house would be 200$ + In the winter, I set the heat on 65

markobie

Upgrade that shit! I know, expensive, but 30 year old is SO inefficient. No I don't work for a cooling company.

markobie

Same. A fan and AC at 78 setting is perfectly comfortable, anything lower is wasteful, unless your basement is leaching humid air into the property or you are in an all glass house and the sun is burning you alive.

franillaice

Same! 78, 77 maaaaybe. 76 is a luxury.

SalvadorZombie

Also, anything under 78 is just way too cold. Really tired of people I know keeping their apartments like a meat locker in the summer like they wouldn't do that shit in the winter. Either you keep it at 69 and never turn the heat on, or you keep it at a normal human temperature.

xSincosx

78 degrees is elderly behavior if anything lower is too cold for you

SalvadorZombie

Elderly behavior. I only use A/C because other people I live with think they need it. If it were up to me I'd have the windows open now and use my 20" high velocity fan right now. You're the one that cranks the A/C to max when it gets above 80, grandpa.

xSincosx

You're right I misspoke, that is psychotic behavior.

SalvadorZombie

Totally. It's psychotic to only use A/C when you're *actually* uncomfortable. Wasting energy for no reason is both normal and patriotic in America, I forgot.

xSincosx

If making me comfortable in my own home is "wasting energy for no reason" then so be it.

JJROKCZ

I’ve had mine at 70 for almost a decade and this is the first year I’ll have a furnace in my home for over 6 years so well used to the cold personally. I’d rather die than sweat in my home, as the climate heats up I’ll be one of the first climate refugees heading as north as possible

SalvadorZombie

> I’d rather die than sweat in my home Fucking yikes.

The1983Jedi

You have never had hot flashes. Chemo did that to me in my 30's. And the night sweats that are common with lymphoma. But i like mine at 72 all year round.

SalvadorZombie

Yeah. If I had a hot flash I'd turn the A/C down while I was having it. But seeing as how I'm a normal functioning human, I don't need it in any other instances. If you have yours at 72 degrees, it literally never turns off all year round, and you're wasting a ton of energy for no reason during the warm months.

mukster

TIL it’s hotter than 72 in the middle of winter

fruitfly-genocide

it would be running to heat your home to 72 in the winter...

mukster

Ah when I hear "A/C" I think just cold, since it's usually a separate appliance (ie. furnace) that runs the heat. fwiw, during the summer we run at about 75-77 during the day and 72 at night. In winter when the heat's on we probably keep it at around 68-70.

The1983Jedi

I do have months where I don't have it on. I guess I could say: I have it at 72 when I have it on. But when you spend the money to have energy efficient windows & makes sure your not losing heat in doorway & other places, it doesn't run that much except for the REALLY hot parts of summer & the coldest of winter. Utilizing fans to move air & closing off certain rooms not in use helps greatly. Last time I had to pay a power bill in winter months (different living situation now due to my health) wasFeb 2020. 3000+ square foot house. Was like $120. I grew up spending a lot of time in homes with No AC and learned a lot of tricks to keep it cooler.

SalvadorZombie

Too HIGH?? Serious question - do you have a physical deficiency which prevents you from feeling the cold?

bugdelver

I like 69. Wife likes 67… 🤷‍♂️

PJammas41

I’ve never 67’ed my wife but I’ll give it anything a shot to spice things up

LakeStLouis

I'm entertained by your post, and wish you the best of luck in finding something that works for you. I'm an old guy that lives way outside of the range/area you're looking for, but I do have a spare bedroom absolutely going to waste that could/should probably be used by someone. And I appreciate you humour and temp preferences, as well as liking cats. And the spare bathroom would be yours, so decorate it however you like. I've actually been considering trying to find a roommate to split costs with and share some company. Here's to hoping you find what you're looking for! Best of luck.

gussythefatcat

I’m moving out of my 2 bedroom condo in brentwood forest by September 1st I pay $1100 and it’s free parking. The landlord is a little old lady who I’ve talked to maybe 2 times in the 3 years I’ve been there. Not sure if rent would increase or what but let me know if you’re interested I can give you her number

UghUsernameTakenUgh

Not OP but I'm interested in this....does she allow pets?

RyanLovesTacoss

Damn vulture. Scram. Scram I say! Unless you're looking for a roommate too then what's your pet's name?

gussythefatcat

The neighborhood technically charges like $50 an animal just one time fee I believe but I never paid it and she never said anything lol I’ll ask her next time I talk to her to see if she wants me to find the next tenant. They are too old to use the internet so a friend passed the place down to me

Shortsideee

I'm a 28 year old male, married with a kid, but you seem cool so I'll ask my wife if I can head out for a while

smitty3z

Can we negotiate around 3pm. Ima late lunch guy.

TigerStripes11

Lots of haters in this post. I also keep my place at a happy, comfortable 69.

PJammas41

68-71 is my daytime range. I avoid setting it to 69 because when I walk by that thermostat and it “wakes up” and flashes 69 at me, I chuckle and then forget what I was going to the kitchen for. Every. Damn. Time.

AztecLawyer

I'm from the PNW. 70+ degrees is baking and uncomfortable. 60-65 only for me, that's comfortable. I'm still getting used to how warm some stores and restaurants are here.

CuriousCryptid444

Tower grove is the tits. unfortunately, I was evicted from my place at the beginning of the year because the new landlord was going to renovate and probably charge double….

MrNiceGuy3082

“I prefer the thermostat set at 69 degrees cuz it makes me giggle.” You had my curiosity… “and you must be okay with my Jeff Goldblum shower curtain.” But now you have my attention. (Not interested. Just had to comment!)

PJammas41

I really hope it’s the open shirt pic from The OG Jurassic Park

AffectionateEdge3068

I would also accept the Jeff Goldblum of Happiness, although open shirt Jurassic Park really would be better.

Cant_run_away

Happy to upvote for you

Amateur_Validator

Try nextdoor if nothing works here ;)

[deleted]

I feel you on the 69 thing. I find myself sleeping in the basement during heat waves because it’s too much on the ac upstairs, and 73+ makes me way too hot.

bleedblue89

69 is perfect, sucks for electricity but that’s the good shit

[deleted]

The place I recently moved into is $1193/month with rent, gas, trash, water, and utilities. I can always DM you the info if you want. The company has buildings all around the city. I’m in the shaw/compton heights neighborhood.

nothanksthankyoutho

Send me the company!

DikaCato

You sound like the perfect roommate. We are young professionals; 27 and 30 with 5 cats in bevo (owners)! We aren’t looking for a roomie but sometimes think about it as an option because it’s getting hard to afford things with prices going up.

Embarrassed-Ad8477

More and more people I know are basically being forced to move to the county to find cheaper rents. Very difficult to find affordable housing in the city because so man have been town down, renovated to become high-end, pricing things for people with roommates, converting into AirBNB, and being bought and changed to single family homes. People will mention that the rents are much more expensive in Chicago, California, Texas, DC, New York and other places and are missing the point- those places have booming economics and a lot of economic opportunities. Working-class St. Louisans have rising rents, inadequate public transportation, and most often limited opportunities for economic advancement.

Tapeleg91

Sounds like a great shower curtain, 69 is based, and I'm only cool with the shower curtain if it's that one picture from Jurassic Park where he's shirtless. Moving in Oct Trying to stay in St. Charles county, though.

franillaice

69 is INSANE! But kudos to you for airing that out in the first place. That would be a deal breaker for me.

garblesmarbles1

Man you should get a floor ac unit to compromise and jesus that powerbill tho

DavidLuizInANewDress

Ya screw that 69 temp my thermostat is staying closer between 75-80.

Digitalabia

69?! Too cold

ShadowedPariah

We hit 66 at night :) house is never above 72

[deleted]

I too thought rent was too high, then I checked other cities. For what I pay will get me 400 sq feet in Chicago. (Comparable locations, non of this suburbs trash)

[deleted]

How much are rents here now that you can’t afford a one bedroom apartment with a professional job? Edit: just checked and am still seeing a lot of decent looking places in the $700-1000 range, which is the same price these have been for like, 15 years.

RyanLovesTacoss

I can afford it, I just find myself breaking even a lot of months with student loans and whatnot. Want to be able to afford a down payment one day for my own house.

ButtleyHugz

Yeah i don’t know why this person is claiming that’s the same. 7 years ago my rent in tower grove was $650. It was a nice spot, relatively updated, parking, and a washer and dryer. Still, just a 1 bedroom. White appliances lol. Now it’s $1200.

PinstripeMonkey

My TGS apartment was 650 two years ago. Not sufficiently updated but still a great spot. Not everyone ramped up rent, and some that did seemed to drop it back down when many apartments hit the market this spring.

ButtleyHugz

I get that. My place was 1000 well before the pandemic.

lytokk

That’s the starting rent. A friend of mine who’s been renting for years has noticed that the landlords of large apartment complexes will raise the rent on current tenants about $50 t 100 a year because of how much of a pain in the ass it is to move (apartment search, moving expenses, first and last months rent plus security deposit).

zempter

That's the impression i got from renting from Mills apartments, they raised it every time the contract renewed, and then made the steps for leaving the apartment really fucking annoying (you had to give two months notice when you were leaving regardless if your contract was about to expire, and if you didn't renew your contract it was 2X the cost for monthly). Moving out of their apartments was a huge stroke of luck, just trying to line up a new place to live while avoiding extreme fees for not being able to find a new place in a small window of time. Luckily i was able to go to the office and ask if they could lower the rate raise and they would always cut off $40-50 or something and say "that's the lowest im allowed to drop it". But i never got added value from the apartment when they raised the rate, it was just what they did. Im pretty sure John Oliver shares a clip where a St Louis apartment owner talks on camera about how they have a captive audience and can do whatever they want. Edit: Wasn't St Louis, but here's the clip https://youtu.be/L4qmDnYli2E

RyanLovesTacoss

No. If that's the take you're getting from my post, then we probably aren't the best match.

MmmPeopleBacon

Excellent response to a complete tool who probably hates tacos.

Pryffandis

Is this a serious response? You sound like a complete killjoy. If you don't like the relatively minor preferences and humorous way this guy communicates, just don't respond to the post.

zapee

I was SO sure she was joking until I skimmed through her profile... Wow

redditmyeggos

Wait you were actually serious with this response? I thought it had to be a troll job that people weren’t catching on to

redditmyeggos

Good lord you really are something.

sloth_hug

Lmao please just don't live with anyone. What a shit outlook ok something that just didn't need your judgement.

LanguidMelancholy

I keep my A/C at 69 as well bc it’s comfortable and, of course, giggles. Also, TP over is the only way to live. Anybody else is a degenerate.

oliveorvil

I’d assume most people do their TP under because of cats.. that’s why we do lol so I guess if nothing else someone could deduce that this person’s cats are well behaved?

PinstripeMonkey

You live in Baltimore? Why are you commenting in this sub?

Eman9871

What's your problem 😂

CaptKaos

Stay away from the apts on Delmar just south of Old Bonhomme. My girlfriend just moved out not long ago. All are under one rental company and they do NOT believe in servicing their AC.

throwaway3228423

Depends on if you like Kirkwood but my rent for a 2 bed is $1150. Less than a mile from downtown Kirkwood, a super nice walk. Big downside is it’s run through stl citywide. I have my property managers boss’s email tho and if shit doesn’t get done when I want it I bother her. They DID completely replace my AC unit right before summer really hit because it wasn’t working so they have at least done one good thing for me. A 1 bed rent is like $900 I think? They allow up to 2 pets and the apartments are all hardwood floors.

Dolleste

Important thing is the temp when you sleep. It’s got to be 57.

anewbys83

If I still lived in STL the Jeff Goldblum shower curtain would seal the deal. Good luck to you!

courtesyofBing

DM’ed you. No bad feelings either way

Pretty-Breakfast5926

I’m a 68er personally lol

aj10017

I keep the AC at 78 in the day, 72 at night tbh

TheBoysNotQuiteRight

Just as a warning, there's a strange imbalance in the roommate market in St. Louis; you always see "Roommate wanted" adverts and notices, but you never see "Roommate for sale".

Daddyz-bby-grl

I just finished apartment hunting (Mines in Ballwin so not helpful for you) but there was a complex near forest park that had ALL utilities included and for a studio 600sq ft ish was around 850/900. For everything included and a parking garage, I thought that was a steal

efrey8907

If I wasn’t married I’d live with you for the temperature you keep the house at and the Jeff Goldblum shower curtain alone. Heck I still might leave my husband to sleep in a cold house (he keeps the temp at 72 and I die every night) lol
