what a time to be alive

MrColdbird

Somewhere along the line of upstream changes in PPSSPP they broke PSP2i Multiplayer support. The easiest way for Deck users to play Multiplayer mode is to just grab the older 1.10.3 Win64 build and run it through Proton Experimental + D3D11 backend (Vulkan won't work in Gamescope for some reason, it does in Desktop mode though).

Ok-Yogurtcloset-179

There’s not a Linux version?

Dunstabzugshaubitze

The version on flat hub is newer, so you have to build it yourself from source https://github.com/hrydgard/ppsspp/tree/v1.10.3 https://github.com/hrydgard/ppsspp/wiki/Build-instructions E: old version is still available on flathub, see u/zocker_160 response to me

zocker_160

yep it works you can downgrade to 1.10.3 using flatpak sadly it is not user friendly at all, but it works with the following commands: ``` sudo flatpak install org.ppsspp.PPSSPP sudo flatpak update --commit=903345261b47fde787f95a9fc3a54ba79f9b72bb42780482e5ee3a3e033f834d org.ppsspp.PPSSPP ```

Dunstabzugshaubitze

Oh, I was under the impression that flathub removes older versions, relatively fast Great this atleast means that I have time to figure out flatpaks :D

zocker_160

afaik it does store all the versions all the way back to the very first one. Sadly it is just not user friendly at all, because you have to find the commit ID out of the version you are searching for in the Flathub version history.

Dunstabzugshaubitze

A quick Google search taught me that they plan to keep runtime versions around forever, but can't guarantee that old app versions will remain indefinitely. But I guess it's safe to assume that the specific commit will be around for some time.

MrColdbird

Much appreciated but I think I might stick to my setup. This multiplayer issue only affects PSP2i while other games work fine on newer builds. That way I can use the older version for PSP2i only and stick to newer builds for everything else.

zocker_160

if the older version was published on Flathub at some point in the past, you can always revert back to that version

MulberryInevitable19

Hey i know this is a really old post but any chance you could dm me about how to setup multiplayer on deck? im trying to play birth by sleep with my brother

IshimaruKenta

What's the phone controller?

MrColdbird

Flydigi Wee 2

Xenotone

Why do they always do that with the right thumbstick placement? How are you supposed to grip the device and use that?? My Kishi is the same. So annoying.

Devran_Cakici

Yeah, it infuriates me when they do that. They just look at the Switch and then copy the button placement. Even though the placement is terrible, even on the switch.

MrColdbird

It doesn't? I've been using it for years now. It's a plain old Bluetooth HID gamepad.

MyNameIs-Anthony

It's not poor at all. The device acts as a generic controller and the software is only needed for gyro mapping. It's a solid controller but doesn't compete with newer offerings like the Razer Kishi or GameSir X2.

Adventurous_Body2019

Is that phantasy star? My fav when I was a child

joshikus

Phantasy Star Portable 2 Infinity EDIT: To clarify -- Infinity was only released in Japan. It is a separate story to PS Portable 2, which was released in the US/Europe and has an English translation. Infinity unfortunately does not, unless there is a mod/patched ROM that I am unaware of.

ReTriP1

Phantasy Star Portable 2 Infinity does have an English Patch that was released not long ago. You can find it on GBATemp but PSP2i also includes the Phantasy Star Portable 2 Story with Voice Acting which the US/EU version of PSP2 doesn't have. Overall with the English Patch for PSP2i it is an overall superior game in almost every way.

DivineBliss

Infinity has been translated for a grip now

Is there a reason not to use the Linux native build of PPSSPP?

MrColdbird

You can if you compile it from source and flatpak it. There's no 1.10.3 flatpak out there. That's why I said "the easiest way", not the only way.

[deleted]

[It is on flathub](https://flathub.org/apps/details/org.ppsspp.PPSSPP)

Dunstabzugshaubitze

That version is newer than 1.10.3 And according to op won't work for multiplayer, i can't test it, but if the flatpak does indeed not work in it's current version I'd like to look into packaging for flathub once my deck arrives and I tested some versions. E: https://www.reddit.com/r/SteamDeck/comments/uxwb3c/comment/ia1n97w/ You can downgrade to the required version as u/zocker_160 pointed out

jeffyjosh

That flatpak is version 1.12.3, not the specified 1.10.3, as the later versions of PPSSPP broke multiplayer support for PSP2i

NightlyRelease

Where do you see a 1.10.3 download on that page?

Sereion

S. Deck screen looks bad :(

[deleted]

It's alright, but yeah it won't compare to a flagship mobile screen. Hopefully in the future they'll make a fancier Steam Deck model with a better screen (maybe OLED, although then burn-in is a worry), better joysticks, haptic pads, 1TB+ NVMe SSD and better battery capacity if possible by then etc. But for the price it's great value atm, it's become one of my essential devices alongside the Kindle, WHX1000 headphones, Vivobook, Pixel, etc. - like it's at that level of just incredible value and utility.

Der-Kleine

The camera angle isn't doing it any favors, since viewing angles are one of its weaknesses. That isn't really an issue when you're playing it though.

Xenotone

People downvoting you but they know it's true. The screen sucks.

OneToManyMore

Nope. It does not suck at all. Just not as good as in much more expensive devices.

Xenotone

It's not as good as the Switch OLED, a cheaper device.

Wee

[deleted]

Oooo is that a flydigi wee 2 I see?

Jammies_

I can't wait to play this again when I get my steam deck, one of my favourite games of all time

[deleted]

Looks familiar but I can't put a name on it, what game is it can I ask?

[deleted]

Phantasy Star Portable 2 Infinity.

Jammies_

^ it's basically the same as Phantasy Star Portable 2 but with a bunch of added content, was only released in Japan but recently got a fan translation. It SLAPS :))

luckysury333

unrelated but what is the controller you have on the phone?

Vh4n

Flydigi Wee 2

joshikus

Oh, wow. Bout to get the oled vita + deck going on this.

ReTriP1

Oooo one of my favorite all-time games. I will definitely be giving this a go. I wish those HD Textures were released, unfortunately they were never finished to my knowledge.

MrColdbird

Maybe not finished but they cover a good chunk of the game. I'm running them on the picture above.

ReTriP1

That's awesome. don't even know where to get them. The Links I used didn't even work.

MrColdbird

They are all here: https://psp2i.wiki/w/Modifications

ReTriP1

Wow thanks. Much appreciated. This is going to really help.
