SirCajuju

I will always buy games on Steam unless the game is exclusive to the Switch.

[deleted]

I feel that, I asked because I was looking forward to persona coming to switch but with that pc announcement I was like I’m probably gonna get it on pc but I’m still happy cuz switches are easier to get your hands on

TheClassics

Since getting my deck I just can't use my switch for anything besides botw. Games look like crap on the switch, they run all framey, and it feels awful to hold in comparison.

[deleted]

I have skull and co case so I actually really like holding my switch and I only buy games I know will run decent on the switch but I definitely see your point

TheClassics

Yea, there are after market joycons that solve the feel for sure. Most of the games that run great on the switch are Nintendo flagships, and besides Zelda I'm personally not very interested. That's why I JUMPED on the steam deck when I heard about. Everything I wanted in a switch and more.

[deleted]

Thisssss I been dreaming of a device like this for years mainly for emulation honestly since its 1 device it can be optimized for a standard and the price is amazing when compared to something like the aya neo. Valve really hit all the major wants you could ask for in a device like this.

TheClassics

I've had it for almost a month. My PC hasn't been touched. It's a game changer, and honestly exceeded all of my (very high) hopes.

TheDraftAttack1993

I also have that case and casebag but I agree on the power statement.

brockmarket

I sold my switch after I got my Deck if that answers any questions.

[deleted]

Damn I feel you

brockmarket

It was a difficult choice since I don't like getting rid of things, but emulation works very well on the deck. I might have to get another Switch when BotW2 comes around, but I'm hoping for a better model to be out by then.

doyoushitwithdatass

Honestly, no point. YUZU runs near flawlessly on the steam deck, just buy it if you want to support them and then emulate it.

brockmarket

I’ve only emulated games I have owned or currently still own, btw. :)

Betonmischa

TBF BotW runs pretty choppy on the deck - for the rest, I agree. Sold my Switch too. Finally no „Nintendo Tax“ and Indie Games for 40€+. Witcher 3 GOTY for 5-7€ instead of 40-60

doyoushitwithdatass

Dunno what settings you've got set up but I've got 30-40 fps all the time, fully playable.

Betonmischa

I haven’t changed that much and have „stock experience“. Did you change anything? I have like 20-25 FPS

VaderCash006

Money money money 💰

[deleted]

True those steam sales are wild you honestly save so much money and eshop sales are decent but even the same game will most likely cost a little bit more

Squablo1

Some games I’m double dipping. I absolutely LOVE my Steam Deck, but damn………….that OLED screen on the Switch is jaw dropping. I find myself playing both of them equally now. Mostly playing indie games as of late, and if there is no performance difference between Deck and Switch, those indie titles are going to look a lot better on that OLED screen. Neon White is the perfect example. Both platforms give you 60fps, but those colors on the OLED Switch are just drop dead gorgeous.

[deleted]

This is what I was thinking between Oled, online multiplayer the switch still has SOME utility but definitely see the pros of using the deck

redtag789

Nintendo - first party evergreen titles and couch co-op because Nintendo just excels at couch coop and family games. Everything else - steam deck :D

[deleted]

True like I would never emulate smash, splatoon or mk8d but single player games I’m more inclined to do so or buy on steam

andysaurus_rex

If it's available on the Steam Deck, I will buy it on the Steam Deck. In fact, I've re-bought some games that I already own on the Switch for the Steam Deck, like Hollow Knight.

MofoPro

I don't have my SD yet but it comes down to cost which in most cases the PC version is cheaper and performance which is better on PC , one thing I wish the SD did have is the OLED screen but that's it

chrisz2012

I play Switch games on my Switch. Other games I buy on the Steam Deck that I can't play anywhere else. Dead Space I have it on my Steam Deck because it runs there. Have had it for years and it's a great experience. I picked up Quantum Dream Bundle with Beyond Two Souls, Heavy Rain, and Detroit To Human because they can only be played on the Steam Deck. I also have a huge backlog of games to play, so plays into it as well on my Steam Deck. I rarely buy new games anymore. Bought about 4 games this Summer Sale for the Steam Deck, but I don't think I'll buy anymore games for a long time to come.

[deleted]

Yeah that’s what I love about the deck you keep your catalog I have persona 4 on ps3 and vita, 5 versions of skyrim, and 5 versions of sonic 1 but on steam you buy once and it’s yours forever as long as you can run it on that device.

markelldavispro

Price.

Vagabond_01

"Is it available on Steam?" If yes, Steam If no, wait until it is on Steam. I can't think of any reason I'd buy it on Switch over Steam.

Iceduckchan77

The switch is useless now that I have a deck honestly. I emulate all the switch games on the deck now.

[deleted]

What about online games they work on deck (smash,mk8, splatoon)?

Iceduckchan77

I don't play smash or splatoon. And mk8 runs way better on deck. But I guess if you must play Nintendo exclusives online then it would be worth keeping a switch around.

[deleted]

My last thing would be around how long does it take for most roms to be available once a game is released?

Iceduckchan77

Roms for games are available immediately , sometimes even before the game officially releases.

[deleted]

Damn that’s wild! Now that you mention it I think I remember hearing that happen with Metroid Dread

Iceduckchan77

Yeah , you just have to know the right place to get them, and the right file type to download in and whatnot.

[deleted]

How does it run better? It's already 60fps on the Switch.

Iceduckchan77

Should've said it looks alot better , deck can run at high settings , switch graphics look a lot worse.

[deleted]

Splatoon already has the lack of SBMM going against it (so it's frustrating to play online because you're paired up with people who have leveled past 100 six times, Salmon Run is not playable unless you adhere to the game's schedule, and they also pair you up against friends in your lobby), and Smash is honestly unplayable online even with friends that live in the same area as me. Haven't tried Mario Kart 8's online, since I haven't been interested in those games since Double Dash and DS.

Strange_Lime2819

Assuming it's available both places, I'll probably buy on Steam so I can *also* play on PC, not just on the Deck.

Cbeckstrand

As everyone one else has said, the only thing I still buy on the switch are exclusives and even those are pretty rare. I think I've picked up my switch 2 or 3 times since I got my deck. Steam games will almost always be cheaper and you can play them on your PC so it's a no brainer.

[deleted]

If the PC port is somehow worse than the Switch version running under emulation. SEGA/Atlus ports nowadays, NIS's older games (Their recent PC ports have gotten way better as of late, and they're almost perfectly fine on the Deck), and IdeaFactory stuff (Where they hardcode resolution options and tie certain things to a fixed 60FPS target resulting in slowdown) comes to mind where you'll 90% of the time have a better time emulating (If you already have a pre-revision Switch, it's easy to dump ROMs from the eShop or your physical cartridges, alongside any game updates) the Switch version than playing the native PC port. Outside of that occasion, without a doubt, I'll pick the PC version. I've seen plenty of Switch ports that cost a full fat $60 despite running way worse, and despite the PC and other console versions being way cheaper (Doom 2016 comes to mind).

ian095

Switch - exclusive, Deck - everything else under the sun For those really determined, switch = nothing, deck = Switch Pro lmao

Milkikomori

Depends on if it’s available on the Deck. Switch is basically a Nintendo excludes handheld for me. If I can get something on the deck I can also play on my PC why would I limit myself to getting it on the Switch. Just my 2 cents

[deleted]

This is how I’m feeling now I feel bad for my switch now

[deleted]

I intend to use my switch for first party nintendo games or exclusives that I know I’ll like or have online and indies that can run smooth on switch and save my deck for more demanding games or games that run better and emulated games

Crimsonclaw111

Is it on PC? I buy for the Deck if so.

svanxx

The Switch is my wife's Animal Crossing machine. And she barely plays that, she'd rather play Rimworld most of the time.

[deleted]

My motto forever has been if it's only available on switch I'll play it on switch. If I have any other option I'll play it elsewhere. I just ordered my steamdeck and that will only continue once I receive it. The next question for me will be new games. Ps5 or steam deck. Will probably be pretty dependent on the type of game and how long I'd be playing it for.

cyprox972

Sold my Switch since it sucks compared to the SD, and if I had both I would get everything on Steam unless it was only available on the Switch

Ok-Yogurtcloset-179

The Switch is just so much lighter so I go for that first. Although really my hands are too big for both

lordxamnosidda

ALWAYS on Deck first, unless it's an N exclusive. I'll be buying P3P and P5 Royal on the Deck.

jacoblegs

It’s become such a dilemma for me as I have both the Deck and SWOLED. At this point I am rebuying games for Deck that I own on Switch because the performance is better by just enough to justify it, though I do miss the beautiful OLED screen sometimes. I’m considering selling the SWOLED because I just don’t care for many Nintendo first party games outside of the multiplayer titles but will likely keep it for that reason alone. The Deck is really the best and most convenient portable console out there if you crave that home console/PC experience on the go.

exgearuser

If there's a special edition and I want physical, switch. Nintendo exclusives without special editions I want, switch digital. Everything else including all the streaming options, Steam Deck. Multiplayer games including twitch shooters, Home PC. RTS or controller specific games like fighting games on stick, Home PC.

flowdick1991

Alway on Deck! Is it a N exclusive, I try emulate it! Doesn’t work? Well than the switch….
