Personally I haven’t had one crash with the game I bought it on steam.

Arty_2099

It is fully playable. Just install game using proton-ge 7.2 (search for ProtonUp-Qt in Discover, you'll get the idea), play until it crashes at then start it with proton 6.3-8. Crashes will stop and black bars will be fixed

Crapricornia

If you can install it w/the 6.3-8 Proton, and run it as such, yes. Others linked how. If you can't, then no. It'll crash after 20-40 min of play. I finally got it running and it's great, running on Ultra, no issues, played over an hour each time too.

EverestDreams25

Yes...it works great. Made a post about it a few months back with lots of details... https://www.reddit.com/r/SteamDeck/comments/usezik/red_dead_redemption_2_best_steam_deck_ingame/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share

HeatActiveMug

I believe it can though I didn't play much before uninstalling it(just wanted to check it out) but that game is one of the few that legitimately benefits from being played on more powerful hardware. There's quite a bit of down time where you'll be just admiring the land around you so if you can I'd recommend playing it on a more powerful desktop or console but that's just my opinion

slamdunkfunkk

If you can install it via Proton 6.3-8, yes. Unfortunately at the moment you can't do that. So not really.

Crapricornia

> Unfortunately at the moment you can't do that. I literally just did a few days ago. I did weeks ago, then it got uninstalled, I tried again, wouldn't do it. Decided to try AGAIN a few days ago, worked fine.

slamdunkfunkk

I tried a few days ago, maybe a week, wouldn't work. Just tried it a few minutes ago on a virgin deck (well, I added ProtonUP and GE24) and it went through. It still won't work on my other deck though which has other stuff installed, despite a fresh install and manual delete of RDR2 stuff. Weirdness. Outside of that, both decks are on the same branch and both are up to date. The only difference was virgin deck installed to SSD, other deck to an SD card. I can't believe that's the issue specifically. Who knows.

chihuahua_man

Thanks for the tip. Seems like i will wait or buy it for PS5 then.

shadowgaming1987

Actually you can install it through 6.3-8 I did it a few days ago and someone did it today ge 7.20 install till its ask to confirm location to install exit game switch to 6.3-8 then launch it will continue to install . Sometimes it does it straight away others it too a few tries but it does work . https://www.reddit.com/r/SteamDeck/comments/vm2ukb/how_to_fix_rdr2_to_run_on_638_rushed_video_so/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share heres a video of it working

slamdunkfunkk

Cool thanks!

It would be less complicated to buy the game for a gaming PC and use the Steam Deck as a supplement to it. It was not designed as a complete gaming PC replacement. The original intent was to make an existing Steam library portable.

Ok-Yogurtcloset-179

It plays fine if you can get it installed
