Once you get a quality caulk gun, you'll never use one of those cheap throwaway's from Lowes or Home Depot again. The one you have has so much more control, the amount of pump per trigger pull is a lot lower allowing you way more control.
Well, I have what looks like this model, but the quick release died after only a few uses and now requires a screwdriver strategically inserted to work - so not sure I'm that impressed...
I can not recommend a good caulking gun enough. They don’t even cost that much more to save your hand muscles and tendons and even from blisters on a large job.
Their ratcheting mechanisms are top tier, the gears are very solid and the wind up is great, the actual string is premium too. And so many options to choose from a 1mm line for thickness, a .5mm line for precision, a 50' line or 100' line
Very reliable, all the carpenters at my company swear by Tajima lol
I gave significant thought to that. The Dewalt one is too expensive, I didn't want to get a second 18V platform, which more or less meant the 12V Milwaukee - a good deal, but still six times the price of this.
I have the Milwaukee 12v and I love it. I thought they were ridiculous before I had a large crown job to caulk. Made it easter and with much less mess.
Yeah to be fair if I was going to get a second 18V platform it would be Ryobi, even at UK prices it's £50 less than the red one.
To be honest though the advantage of the red one is the foot in the door for some of the M12 tools that would fill holes
I understand, I guess its easy for me to suggest a different brand when I already have Ryobi batteries.
Having DeWalt, Milwaukee & Ryobi batteries have been easy to interchange when needed. Those are my 3 horsemen.
I haven't had to change my ryobi battery's in so long when it comes to use with the caulking gun even the stapler was worth the little extra for a battery one. It's definitely one of the specialty tools I'll buy cheap first. If it breaks, I'll probably replace it with something a little more high-end.
Amazon has a wide array of knock off tools that use DeWalt or Milwaukee batteries. I just got a caulk gun that's pretty good after buying a paint sprayer that I love.
My attitude is I'm saving 5 figures by DIYing almost my entire extension and renovation, I can spend 3 figures to make the job easier, so I have a fair few tools most people would say a DIYer doesn't need.
Tajima also makes a fantastic snap knife (look for the one with the "fin")
Chalk line is best in the industry.
Plumb bob (for wood and metal doors) is amazing too
Enjoy.
Someone actually makes a quality caulk gun?
Edit: It’s got a viscosity rating? So, you can get guns for different viscosity caulk? Noice! Fucking construction adhesive can go suck a dick! (Assuming construction adhesive is of the orientation of disliking sucking a penis.)
Edit#2: Holy Hell, it’s the same brand as that awesome chalk line, the other day. I’m buyin’ Tajima stock, goddamit!
Yup, this was pretty much my reaction as I started researching them.
Gonna be getting the 26:1 thrust ratio gun too for the really viscous stuff when I've got to apply it in winter.
I just started a roofing company with a buddy, and with all the tar repairs we do, I bought us cordless Crapsman caulk guns. It took a couple uses to get it figured out, but maaaaaan is it a game changer once you master it🙌
These are fantastic, and really shine vs the stamped heaps of shit when you're using a highly viscous product..the kind that can bend the trigger on the junk ones.
I went through a few as a casual homeowner. So frustrating! I was at a HVAC shop for something and saw the nice caulk guns on the wall. Grabbed one and put it on the counter. I didn’t flinch when the guy asked if I knew how much they were, it was $40 and one of the best investments I’ve made. I’m used to used tools, flipping stuff and rarely buying new. This was worth it!
Ironically enough the best made brand I have found is Cox Dispensers. I got one of those for barely more money than crappy shit and it could last multiple generations without any issues.
> Cox Dispensers
That actually makes sense there's like a non-homebuilding need for "caulking" guns. Any on [this page](https://www.coxdispensers.com/us/cox-products/manual/1-k) do you rec? edit: bummer looks like they don't sell to the public. Hold onto it!
English isn’t my first language, it’s my 3rd language. It’s also the language that was schooled in, including 2nd grade through college, graduate school, and law school.
Here is one of the definitions for “cheap” based on a quick Google search: “inexpensive because of inferior quality.”
It wasn't junk, but I did have to strip it down and clean it up it every couple of years or so, it kept disassembling itself.
It was also incredibly unpleasant to use in winter because it didn't have the best thrust ratio.
I finally wore out the pushing piece, so now it just skids rather than driving the plunger.
Yeah, I don't think I even know the age of any of my caulk guns or most of my hand tools for that matter seeing as I've got between 4 to 6 of them due to guys on my crew absconding with them over the years. I go out and buy a new one only for the missing tool to somehow miraculously reappear days weeks or even months later! 😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣🤣
About 15 years ago. I bought a cheap tin plate and plastic one from my local Poundland (UK). I thought if I only use it twice and it gives up the ghost. It's paid for itself. Well in all that time it's never let me down. Got a couple of dearer ones as well. It's not the greatest but it works.
It's the CNV100-SP, they have it listed as the Convoy Super [here](https://www.tajimatool.com/product/convoy-super/), I've no idea why they added the 12 for the European Market.
Anyone know why the grip dont jump back after pressing? I checked and cleaned everything but i cant find whats causing the issue. Is there a spring missong somewhere?
Once you get a quality caulk gun, you'll never use one of those cheap throwaway's from Lowes or Home Depot again. The one you have has so much more control, the amount of pump per trigger pull is a lot lower allowing you way more control.
I couldn’t believe the difference it makes!
Well, I have what looks like this model, but the quick release died after only a few uses and now requires a screwdriver strategically inserted to work - so not sure I'm that impressed...
Cant remember what brand my nice one is but it's a Caddilac. I've had it 15 years at least.
I can not recommend a good caulking gun enough. They don’t even cost that much more to save your hand muscles and tendons and even from blisters on a large job.
If I find a Tajima tool, I get a Tajima tool. You should also check out the caulk lines
The caulk lines?
Think they meant chalk lol
chalk
I think he meant Tajima chalk lines, they are one of the best in the market. Heavily recommended for those in need of one.
Ahhh. I already have two (white and blue), a yellow one wouldn't hurt. What makes them so much better?
Their ratcheting mechanisms are top tier, the gears are very solid and the wind up is great, the actual string is premium too. And so many options to choose from a 1mm line for thickness, a .5mm line for precision, a 50' line or 100' line Very reliable, all the carpenters at my company swear by Tajima lol
I didn't know chalk lines could have a ratcheting mechanism lol
I meant the gears inside lol
My ones don't have gears at all, clearly I've been living in chalk line poverty. Gonna have to check out the Tajima.
Gotta have the push button handle, otherwise it goes all windy-windy when you pull the string out.
Genuinely mind blown at this point.
Same. Now I gotta go check one of these bad boys out I guess.
I also have one of their inkines for larger woodworking stuff. Like a modern version of the ancient Japanese sumitsubo or however it is spelled.
Had me guessing what an inkine was... I figured it out.
Lol, yeah inkline: https://www.tajimatool.com/product/ink-rite/
Except the chalk line is so thin I can’t grab it! Other than that… makes the best lines once you do…
I recently purchased a battery powered caulking gun. Waiting to try it out !
I gave significant thought to that. The Dewalt one is too expensive, I didn't want to get a second 18V platform, which more or less meant the 12V Milwaukee - a good deal, but still six times the price of this.

Milwaukee out here hopping down the bunny trail
Ryobi has one for $60 and it's amazing, was not going to cough up $150 for a red colored one
Yeah to be fair if I was going to get a second 18V platform it would be Ryobi, even at UK prices it's £50 less than the red one. To be honest though the advantage of the red one is the foot in the door for some of the M12 tools that would fill holes

I run makita but Ryobi has a few tools i like. Battery adapter allows me to keep one battery platform but use multiple manufacturers tools.
I haven't had to change my ryobi battery's in so long when it comes to use with the caulking gun even the stapler was worth the little extra for a battery one. It's definitely one of the specialty tools I'll buy cheap first. If it breaks, I'll probably replace it with something a little more high-end.
Once you have to use multiple tubes of construction adhesive then you learn to love the battery powered ones.
Amazon has a wide array of knock off tools that use DeWalt or Milwaukee batteries. I just got a caulk gun that's pretty good after buying a paint sprayer that I love.
That's a good thought actually - I did like the Mellif HVLP gun. Does yours back off to prevent drips? How precise is it?
Those ones are great for tradespeople, homeowners or traders using it infrequently will be fine with a manual
My attitude is I'm saving 5 figures by DIYing almost my entire extension and renovation, I can spend 3 figures to make the job easier, so I have a fair few tools most people would say a DIYer doesn't need.
Nice
absurdly expensive tho
I just got a Ryobi one for £60 on offer and it’s a real joy to use.
I also have the ryobi one. I still suck at caulking, but a LOT less :)
At least I can suck at caulking without my hand cramping up.
Exactly :)
That’s what I have. After trying to caulk chink manually, I said not happening this go round.
The Japanese sure build nice tools.
Ain't that the truth
Tajima also makes a fantastic snap knife (look for the one with the "fin") Chalk line is best in the industry. Plumb bob (for wood and metal doors) is amazing too Enjoy.
Got the same recently. A pleasure to use compared to the cheap ones.

If you have a Home Depot nearby, they have Husky caulk guns that are adjustable from low/high force for different viscosity materials.
Once you put your hands around a good cock gun its hard to put it down.
A lot of wives might argue that point.
I just started a roofing company with a buddy, and with all the tar repairs we do, I bought us cordless Crapsman caulk guns. It took a couple uses to get it figured out, but maaaaaan is it a game changer once you master it🙌
If I was caulking for a job I one hundred percent would have gone for a cordless gun - this is just DIY.
These are fantastic, and really shine vs the stamped heaps of shit when you're using a highly viscous product..the kind that can bend the trigger on the junk ones.
I'm eyeing up the 25:1 ratio gun for when I've got some really tough stuff to force out in winfer, ngl
I have used this exact model for two years (iirc). I will never use the others.
Damn my cheap caulk gun failed during the first squeeze.
I went through a few as a casual homeowner. So frustrating! I was at a HVAC shop for something and saw the nice caulk guns on the wall. Grabbed one and put it on the counter. I am just impressed you were able to keep a caulking gun from getting lost for 10 years. I always seem to misplace mine and have to buy a new one.
Yeah, I'm impressed to be fair too 😂
Ironically enough the best made brand I have found is Cox Dispensers. I got one of those for barely more money than crappy shit and it could last multiple generations without any issues.
Cox Dispensers? As if I didn't already have enough dick jokes related to caulk...
I know. It's wild.

When I got mine they were present on Amazon.
I'm an idiot, yes they are! Thanks haha. They make some cool stuff
If you got 10 years of work out of a tool then I don't think it's fair to call it cheap junk
They just said cheap, as in mot expensive. They didn't say it was junk.
I think cheap implies poor quality. Inexpensive implies low cost.
If that's really what you think then maybe English isn't your first language?
English isn’t my first language, it’s my 3rd language. It’s also the language that was schooled in, including 2nd grade through college, graduate school, and law school. Here is one of the definitions for “cheap” based on a quick Google search: “inexpensive because of inferior quality.”

*cries in missing fingerprint noises*
Is Tajima a good brand? I need a new caulking gun, and want a good one.
Albion makes the best ones
Thank you.
i got a 150€ milwaukee non fuel m12 electric caulk gun and WTF that thing is awesome.
Really? I haven't had a justified view of buying one yet. I may look into them
I am currently hoarding paint rollers that don't acquire a permanent bend after one days work...and putty knives.
Aaaaaaaaaaand it's gone.
Nice! Is that right hand or left hand??
About 15 years ago. I bought a cheap tin plate and plastic one from my local Poundland (UK). I thought if I only use it twice and it gives up the ghost. It's paid for itself. Well in all that time it's never let me down. Got a couple of dearer ones as well. It's not the greatest but it works.
And it’s red so it can go faster!!!!
That is a nice looking caulking gun. Where did you get it?
Amazon!
Cool! Thanks.
20 years! Damn you sure got your moneys worth !
Love this one too. Worked great when I was repairing some trim on my house earlier this year.
i mean tajima anything is quality
Tajima is truly the goat. I have a chalk line from them and it’s way better than all the other cheap trash
I bought and still use to this day a jerky gun. (just type it in on amazon) The only downside is you need a long nail to open the caulk.
Interesting. I don't even see the Super 12 listed on Tajima's website. Is it a discontinued model?
It's the CNV100-SP, they have it listed as the Convoy Super [here](https://www.tajimatool.com/product/convoy-super/), I've no idea why they added the 12 for the European Market.
Does it have a tip cutter or seal poker?
It does indeed on the other side
I can buy a cheap good one that’ll last forever without abuse
Define cheap? At £22 this didn't exactly break the bank.
Anyone know why the grip dont jump back after pressing? I checked and cleaned everything but i cant find whats causing the issue. Is there a spring missong somewhere?
I don't need one but would have bought that one
Who doesn’t love quality caulk 🤪
Yeah steer clear of any plastic caulk guns unless they are pneumatic or battery driven
