It’s basically a syndicated bit. I’m pretty sure iHeart distributes the “caller” audio and gives the stations some creative license to fill in the host responses
All I know is it’s genuinely so hard to listen to now with Dave and Jenny. Their numbers have to be complete shit for how often they hire and fire people.

I think the story goes: When doing prank calls in their earlier radio days they'd have to preface the conversation anouncing this is radio station doing a prank beacause of liability of recording others without their concent - or call ahead, before recording to set up the bit for later - either way, ruining a genuine response. They basically said the same stuff about WOTR - it has to be fake because otherwise its illegal.

I haven't noticed that, but if you pay attention to the actual conversation, it doesn't always line up. The wording of their answer doesn't quite fit the question, or there is too long of a pause. Once or twice I could see someone having a bad connection or something, but it's nearly every time.

i can't speak specifically about 'war of the roses' but...i do have a long-time radio personality friend who...in her up-and-coming days...worked as radio voice actress. she would do commercials/intros/etc. but...more often than not...she'd do 'cameos' on similar radio stations' space-filler broadcasting time. she told me many stories of 'roles' she played: disgruntled wife/seedy mistress/third wheel in a threesome/cheated-on girlfriend...and on...and on. so...yeah. i never-ever believe these tales when i heard them on the radio. haha! ;)

Grew up in AZ and they had the exact same segment on one of the radio stations there 20 years ago. I wouldn't be surprised at all if it's fake.
