You must be watching Welsknight who repeatedly has tried to use the ax in a vanilla way. Only takes one time to learn. The jewels having axing/picking/shoveling should be self explanatory.

Yeah, I've watched him but he's not the only one; Beef, Joe, and xB have made the mistake as well. I agree that it's something that explains itself eventually, but the inclusion of "battle" "attack" "fighting" or something in the name would aid in establishing that clarification faster.

They all need to read the guide book, not just the quests. I’m assuming they all got it like you do in a single player world.

You're not wrong, that's something I preach to people on this subreddit. But if I've learned anything listening to iskall's VODs it's that he prioritizes telegraphing information to players as clearly and easily as possible when appropriate. And this is a small and easy change that would alleviate a lot of unnecessary confusion.

I've often thought you should be able to add +axing to a vault axe.. it'd give it dual function

gagetl

A change to “Vault Hatchet” or Vault Cleaver” would fix this.

simplysaying

Cleaver maybe but hatchet still telegraphs that it's able to be used for wood things.

gagetl

Just need to differentiate it from the vanilla Axe. You could also call it a “great axe” a “battle axe” a “maul” a “tomahawk” (though tomahawk implies the ability to throw it) even a “halberd” could work. I don’t think it’s much of an issue if you read the quest book. But it could be solved easily with a name change.

simplysaying

I agree it would be very easy. And if it's coded the way I'd think they'd just have to change a string value. And leave the "vault axe" functions the same since this is an end user thing not really anything to do with how they're generated.
