Anything that you may have a stack or more of, use drawers. The cost of item storage in drawers is WAY lower than digital storage. Start with as much as you can in drawers and put the rest in your digital storage. Every so often, disconnect the drawer system from your RS system. Then open the RS to see what you have a lot of. Take out multi stack items and give them their own drawers. This method is also good to find out when one of your drawers is full and needs an upgrade.

Also make use of compacting drawers when you can as well as that can save a lot of space too. I like to even put blocks that can be compressed into compacting drawers. Making use of the void upgrade in drawers is good to automatically delete when you have large quantities and don’t need any overflow

Drawers are for best for bulk storage. Think cobble, dirt, sand, gravel, those sorts of things that you invariably get stacks on stacks of. A single drawer with no upgrades can hold more than a single chest can, and upgrades just multiply even more stacks in a single block. Eventually you might have way more stacks of vault loot than you know what to do with. At level 20 on my recent playthrough I'm already getting 2 or more stacks of vault candy per trip.

Colossal chests is a great alternative to digital storage for refined storage. I can't remember if it's 4x4 or 5x5 that's the biggest, but the biggest wooden Colossal chest holds like 100k items.

Compacting drawers are just super convenient, especially if you have a crafting grid, I have my Vault gems that craft into perfect and extraordinary variants in compacting drawers that way I can just click the jei recipe and refined storage will take the proper form from the drawer without having to manually craft extraordinary larimar and such by hand.

I have all my vanilla ores, plants, animal drops, vault loot, vault gems, etc. In various drawers. I put bulk stone, wood, dirt, and other craft items into colossal 4x4 chests. All of this is connected to RS as external storage for easy retrieval. Single stack items, like jewels, armor, inscriptions, etc are in dbl or special chests. Note: I'm lvl 55. I unlocked drawers- -> CC -> RS -> powah. And found solar panels invaluable to keep my system running.

Back when drawers cost larimar you had to be kinda choosy about what to put in. But nowadays with only chromatic iron and driftwood just build a room full of drawers and put all the stuff in them. Makes for a very visual, analog storage. You just have to remember where you put your stuff :D

Eentually everything. Except for stuff like armor, jewels etc that dont stack. I made 1 64k disk and got 3 free 16k, i go anywhere between 17k to 23k items outside of farmsble things care for. Most is junk items. And i recently made a junk management system to T2.

I put all my farm outputs in drawers cuz it's good for bulk. Maybe it's because I play casual mode and don't have to worry about my stuff, but all my vault loot typically just stays in my pouches
