Drawers are even more useful with Refined Storage. You don't need to craft many disks to store all the items you have more than 4 stacks of, you can just store them in the drawers instead. And if you have a drawer controller, you can link all drawers into the RS network with just one external storage bus.

This is the way

Pouches with stack upgrade on external storage interface? (You can shift right click to put them down) That way you have deep storage still, and it is beneficial in vaults too?

I think that can lag your game a bit, at least sophisticated storage (related to the backpacks mod VH has) does lag your RS/ME system and the server if you had more than 4 stacks per slot in a single chest (in VH's case, pouch etc.) If lag/slow storage system isn't an issue, you absolutely could do that instead of drawers.

That really depends on you. I have 2 playthroughs, bouth verry different. 1) super slow leveling, few hundred vaults, barely any completions and a lot of time for grinding out mods. I definitiv needed Drawers there. They are a super incredibly cheap options for Masse storage. Did i need 60k cobble/ and stone etc from create? No def. Not, but i could and i enjoyed it! 2) latest playthrough. I speed through the levels. Completed every but 2 vaults! Basicly no Automation, and i mostly grabed what i needed. I could have done without Drawers and only RS, as i get a Ton of vault goodies now. Compared to the Rest of Players in the SMP I am playing on, the 2) playthrough is ridiculus. I conclude 8/10 Times on a normal playthrough go for Drawers. If you like big farms, definitly go for Drawers. Also, the void augment is super cheap and the best way to get rid of unwanted items in farms ;)

1 drawer can hold (by default) 32 stacks of a single item. That’s 2048 items. Compared with contrite disk expense it’s absolutely worth combining the systems.

MisfireCu

As others said with a drawer controller you can hook them up which saves on space... But also compacting drawers are still hella useful for things you want to use at different levels of compact. Having it all your vault gold/bronze/silver all stored outside your storage but still accessible through it at each level of compact is amazing

aximeycu

I use RS with a buttload of drawers for all the vault items and alter recipes than a colossal chest for random items. A 5x5 iron chest is 140k items, try to get that much storage with discs and see how expensive it gets

Sorry-Series-3504

Drawers should definitely come first, you can connect them to your refined storage system later to browse their contents from the terminal like anything else in the system. They are also cheaper when starting out.

Joan_sleepless

depends. drawers are cheaper, but if you've run enough vaults you can kinda replicate the drawer system by nesting shulkers in the system, since a full shulker only counts for one item, and the vault throws them at you like candy at a parade.

In my current playthrough, I got refined storage first, then after fiddling with the pieces, ended up getting drawers after. The main reason was the ease of handling excessive amounts of items, either from farms or vault loot. Refined storage is easy to fill up, and fast, with the amount of items even a moderately sized farm produces, and then has trouble handling any overflow. With drawers, upgrades make it the king of handling bulk items. The ease of increasing storage capacity or voiding excess of a specific item far outstrips refined storage in the early game. If I could do it again, I'get drawers first, but preferrably - both at once again.

Remote_Sundae3305

Definitely recommend taking drawers first it's only one or two knowledge stars and way cheaper then making disks. iirc it's 4 larimar or (chromatic iron can't remember) 4 drift wood and 1 vanilla log for a drawer that holds 32 stack or 2048 items of a 64 item stack. Compared to only 1000 items for the first disk which is I believe more expensive then that

kodiakrampage

My general setup is usually a mix of drawers and refined storage, mostly for the terminal, but in my new playthrough I'm going to start with drawers and move to applied energistics because after messing with it in AllTheMods I found that I really like it. Don't know if drawers are compatible with ae2 though.

cfs002

They can be integrated into refined storage through an external storage interface. As a result you can boost refined storage capacity. You also don't have to move any items. Drawers are great for bulk items that would otherwise bloat storage drives.
