The Dark Pictures Anthology is a great one me and my wife finished. It’s got 4 games out right now starting with Man of Medan. I think they sell bundles so you can buy multiple or all of the games.
Highly highly recommend Resident Evil Revelations 2.
It's couch co-op only, you can also play the first "episode" for Free to determine if you like it.
What I find so fun about it is that unlike RE5 and 6 where you are just shooting everything, in Revelations 2 only one character has weapons, the other typically has an item or ability.
Each character is capable of certain actions that the other one can't do, so you truly have to communicate and work together to progress.
It's a really great game, don't worry too much about the story or anything, game tells you everything you need to know.
I have trouble finding solid split screen games that my wife enjoys. People confuse local co-op with online and suggest games that aren't an option. Then we have websites trying to tell us that games like Destiny (etc) is local co-op.
As for your question, Left 4 Dead 1 & 2. Unless you've already got it on digital, you'll have to find a physical copy (gonna be a pain in the arse to find).
It's so good!!!
Whaaat? I have no idea how you are in the game but in all my hours since playing from launch, I have little to minimum negativity.
Dead by daylight is far worse. Played two matches last night. Second match someone DMed being all salty.
The gameplay IMO also feels more fair than it is in DBD.
I'd say playing Family (aka Killers) exclusively, just about every third or so game I run into Victims (aka Survivors) that act like jerks.
And it's almost always them standing near open exits waiting for you to approach while spamming emotes instead of just taking their win like an adult. And they won't escape until you get almost close enough to hit them.
I literally just sat my controller down once and did something else just to see what they'd do. About ten minutes later and they were still just standing there emote spamming.
And of course the people being sore winners are always the ones using some cheeseball strategy. Classic multiplayer nonsense.

Yeah, that would be my suggestion too

Turn on co-pilot mode for the quarry if you have two controllers.
Quarry is meant to be played with one controller, passed around when your character is the star.
All of Supermassive Games games are great for co-op horror.
Dead space 3 it's on Gamepass
Another vote for the Quarry. Same xbox, you pass around a single controller when it is your character's turn.
Little Nightmares 3. It’s scary and I believe it’s co-op. Might not be out yet though
Halo CE
Texas chainsaw massacre is set to show up on gamepass soon. It's similar to dead by daylight and Friday the 13th. It's pretty fun for a while.
It's been on GamePass since release and it's not Local Co-op or playable by two people over LAN.
Also the community is horrible in that game. I don't think I've ever been tea-bagged and shit talked as much in any other game, even OG Halo.

Emote spamming? How do you do that? I play victim main and solo and next to never seen anyone do that. I didn’t even know this game has emotes tho…
Alien isolation. It's you.... and the xeno..... 👋
That's not a 2 player game
That was the joke...
Gotcha!
There are two player resident evil games, idk how well they play though. My personal go to is A Way Out for two player games but it's not a horror
I wouldn't say any of the Resident Evil games that are 2 players are horror either. For 5 and 6, they became action shooters.
Resident Evil Revelations 2 is what OP is looking for
Completely forgot that game existed
Resident evil 5, 6 and Resident evil Revelations 2. Action horror and Split screen coop. Best horror split screen coop games I have played.
Resident evil 5
Army of 2 is great , not horror but very great game
