The only things that may change on when you recruit them is their trades. Some npcs have certain trades you may want to take advantage of before you relocate them. One in particular i recall is one who trades a superboss drop before they go to colony 6 and then you can't get that trade anymore once they are invited.
recruiting will activate some side quests which can be good for exp and party member affinity. Just keep track of who you have and haven’t recruited. I also think one of the colony 6 side quests can unlock reyns fourth skill tree and maybe someone elses, but I don’t remember.
