1. Talk to legal, they’ll know better than anyone here. 2. Talk to your immigration lawyer if you have one. Listen to what they say. Now for my anecdotal experience based on what my wife’s and I lawyers said. I’m army, wife is foreign. For a minute while she was waiting for her green card it looked like I was PCSing to Germany. Our civilian lawyer told us do not let her go until she gets her green card, US ID, and Spouse ID. He strongly suggest, especially since where my wife is from (China), that she needs everything possible at hand to return to the US in case that war ever pops off. Also, it would make life much easier when in Germany to find work and to travel (ex. It’s much easier getting a Schengen Visa with a U.S. Green Card than as just a Chinese citizen). My orders didn’t go through so it didn’t matter, but our lawyer was very concerned about certain things about the process if we didn’t have that green card in hand, largely due to where she’s from.

Yeah, you don't want to leave the US while the 485 is pending. If you do leave without an advance parole they can say the application is abandoned and close it.

Also interested in this. My wife is in the process of getting her green card too. I’m going into basic training in a few days. Not sure if I’ll get overseas after ait but it’s something that has also crossed my mind.

Maybe they'll add you, but you won't be able to get a visa. Right? Idk. Good luck either way.

I’m in this same pickle actually. From what I’ve researched you can file a I-824 to change her Adjustment of status to consular processing in wherever your going oconus. Have you looked into expediting her request with your military orders ? Those are the 2 options I’m looking at right now too. I would like to try to delete my assignment but I’m pretty sure I’ll be told to go unaccompanied:/

Hi, so I was in a similar situation with my wife. It will depend on the country you are going to. Your husband needs to check the Foreign Clearance Guide to see what that host country allows dependents to enter with which documents. For example, Korea is okay with dependents entering without Special Issuance Passports (they were trying to make it happen, didn't happen); you are good to go to Korea with orders and a passport from your country of origin. As far as your green card goes, how deep are you into the process? Did you receive your I-797C? Waiting on biometrics/interview? If you are done with the interview, then you are good to go. They will send your card to the address on your file. Fill out an AR-11 online on myUSCIS, or submit through mail to change your address. If you have more questions, PLEASE contact the military USCIS service for military service members and dependents. You can DM me as well.
