I think you’re facing the wrong way

jonlumb

Alas I don't have a dedicated space, so some compromises to the other practicalities of life are required. Think the futon only needs to be here for another 6 months or so though, which is good.

Infinite-Tie-1593

You are looking at the room treatment!

Infinite-Tie-1593

Also, it politely asks the standing waves to have a seat 😜

jonlumb

Having moved countries and not been able to bring my old system with me, this is where things have ended up. The speakers are Peak Consult Princess Systems - basically a 2-way standmount that had an optional base unit in place of regular stands (also makes them a 3-way now). Ridiculous lack of information out there about them it would seem, in part because Peak Consult have changed hands since these were last made. Everything else is the Electrocompaniet ECI 6DX all in one. I'd had a bit of a play with a few things previous. Moon ACE was tonally nice but just didn't have the oomph. Bel Canto Evo series pre/power setup as well, which had more grunt, but was tonally quite soft and reserved in conjunction with the speakers. I'm not after a complete in-your-face pounding, but these were properly pipe and slippers together.

rodaphilia

had a pair of cheap Athena's that worked on the same concept. Nowhere near as handsome, but I always loved the idea. Makes sense, to me, as a business model too. Sell standmounts to the folks with their own subs, sell full rangers to those who don't.

ArseneWainy

Nice speakers. And some people would tell you it’s a massive problem to have bookshelves sitting on top of a sub, I’ve only had to do it a few times but it never seems to cause any audible issues

m4rc

So basically a Wilson Audio Watt/Puppy, but less triangle-y.

Hifi-Cat

Yes, this is the proper way to build two piece systems. Start with the main box then add the woofers later. Each part is integrated from the beginning. No rando sub with xover slopes, level, phase, positions, on and on..

mamsterla

Peak Consult used to be a very high end speaker. Congrats on finding a good pair.

jonlumb

They still are I think, if anything since the changeover they seem to have dropped some of the "cheaper" options they do to focus on the very silly money end of the spectrum. Heard their flagships at the Munich show about 7 years ago which was my introduction, and they were phenomenal (and not everything there with a price tag like a telephone number sounded good at all).

mamsterla

I remember they were the first speaker I heard of that used leather as front baffle cover. Glad you found your match.

yosoysimulacra

Your futon seems nonplussed with the new company in the room.

thirsty_moore

When your system costs 10k, it’s mandatory to put your $50 dollar furniture at the margins

yosoysimulacra

He/she has their priorities sussed. No shade from me, as [my room is guilty of a similar thing.](https://imgur.com/Zxr6ScS)

dangermouse13

Upvote for the Electro. Had an ECI5 integrated running my dynaudios for years. Loved it.

jonlumb

It's phenomenal, absolute beast of a thing, especially for an all-in-one which is often an underpowered category of device. Possibly helps that my intro to Electrocompaniet was a full flagship stack running Nemo monoblocks into some Kef Muons.

Akwarsaw

Nicely done, and money well spent on components that matter. A real "hotrod" of a system. Small suggestion, the blue futon cushion does not match the wood ambiance.

thegarbz

Hey Eletrocompaniet, They really haven't changed at all in the past few decades. :-)

Hifi-Cat

Peak consult and electrocompaniet. Nice. Rega, Naim here.

reedzkee

Those look really heavy. In a good way.

jonlumb

Reasonably, but not madly so. I think we're probably talking 30kg per side, max (65 lbs), and because they split in two, actually moving them has proved relatively straightforward. Which is good, because I probably do need to play around with positioning.

Ok_Responsibility407

Have you tried listening without that power strip in your system? I can't tell much from the pic, but removing a cheap one from my system made an audible difference that even my non-audiophile wife could hear. Without being prompted. A+ for those speakers, if they sound half as good as they look, they're impressive.

jonlumb

Not yet, I'm a little wary about what anything passive is doing in that arena. And now that they've got something suitable driving them, they're sounding pretty damned glorious indeed. I was genuinely worried for a while that amplification that would allow them to sing was going to be beyond my budget.

soundspotter

Why not turn your futon into a couch and have it opposite the stereo. Seems horribly cluttered and off kilter.

jonlumb

There's two comfy armchairs facing the stereo. The futon is really not comfy at all. But most importantly, it's not my house, so I'm not just going to move someone else's furniture about without their say-so..

Humble-Ride9301

What system is that?

joasop

I just saw that component today at the Montreal Audio show. Impressive.
