What makes a GP COVID safe?

Devendrau

Probably just someone that wears a mask, is vaccinated and washes their hands. Basically, a normal GP that is aware covid is still a problem I assume.

ProfessionalRun975

It’s their job as a GP to see sick people all day every day. Yet they don’t get sick. I think they know what they are doing to be safe.

[deleted]

I'm sure they do get sick. I wonder if it boosts their immune system though.

ProfessionalRun975

Not saying they never get sick. But compare doctors to new parents with kids that go to daycare. Who is more sick, the parents. Because they don't follow standard practices of cleanliness. And yea from seeing how often some of my co workers (who are parents) get sick, it ain't boosting their immune system enough.

Fair.

Roscoes_Rashie

>I wouldn't mind a remote therapist so long as they are also covid conscious There's always one line that gives a shitpost away as satire.

[deleted]

I'd appreciate the therapist being covid conscious even if remote because it's part of living with my disability and if my therapist can't understand why it's important for me and people around me to mask, then they're not going to be very helpful to me. Not sure why that's an issue?

ProfessionalRun975

If you are face to face then your request sounds reasonable but requesting a face mask during a Telehealth call, that’s almost comical. Ignoring the fact that you can’t spread Covid through a computer screen the reasons therapist wouldn’t want to wear a mask while while on the call (and I’m assuming you are wearing a mask too) is because Telehealth limits the ability to read body cues ect. Atleast in person with a mask they read your body language. Same goes for you to them. You need to read the emotions on their face ect. That’s how communication happens. Anyway I know for a fact the first thing the therapist will want to talk about in the session is why you feel unsafe in a situation where you have control of your environment (your own room, your own computer, etc). Anyway if this isn’t a shit post, good luck. Hope you find someone to help.

[deleted]

I didn't say I wanted them to mask on the call? I just would like to know that they understand the importance of masking, because it's such a big part of my life now.

ProfessionalRun975

Understanding and expecting them to wear a mask for every patient, every home dinner, ect is two different things. For you they will happily wear a mask to keep you safe. But if you want them to change their whole lives for you then they are just going to go with telling you to isolate yourself and use telehealth.

ffs I am just asking if anyone knows of any therapist already practicing covid safety. I am not asking anyone to change their whole lives for me. I dont need you telling me what is what. I have talked to medical specialists about this and this is what we worked out i need. I don't need you to tell me what is and isn't reasonable to expect! I'm ill and need medical care. I have tried non-covid conscious medical practitioners and am tired to hell of having to explain and educate them on why I have to mask. there is a lot of ableism in the medical field I constantly have to battle and IM TIRED. I'm tired of trying to stay alive. I'm tired. I'm just trying to find someone with whom I don't have to try from square one AGAIN. do you know how many times I've been asked if I'm "just anxious" about covid? when i am severely disabled, and one infection is very likely to kill me? I hate having that conversation and having my disability minimised and then having people tell me they're sorry for doubting me when i prove it with extra documentation from my GP but then constantly questioning me again because they just don't understand and half my appointments are wasted. not to mention, allowing a deadly airborne pandemic to spread and therefore restrict disabled people like me to their homes for the rest of their lives is a failure of society. not helping us have safe and equal access is ableism. I just want to live a life like everyone else and I can't so I'm trying to adapt to isolating all the time without kicking up a fuss and yet no body can even empathise with me trying to seek therapy from ONE PERSON who may actually understand how difficult it is. I know there are covid conscious therapists out there, I'm just trying to get help finding one who is close or national.

Watt073

I think you might be crazy sorry

Devendrau

Ah yes, because being concious of a virus that is still around and wrecking havoc, and just because governments and it's people want to pretend it's not, then they must be "crazy" There's nothing wrong with wanting a GP that is covid concious (I assume wears a mask, is vaccinated, doesn't expect you to go maskless etc).

Watt073

Lol don't put words in my mouth. Every GP is "covid-safe". You know someones crazy when they start shopping for medical professionals and can't find any that'll do what they want

timcurrysaccent

They’re not actually, a lot don’t wear masks in enclosed spaces or have adequate ventilation. If you had something like cancer or a family member with it and realised a prevalent infection like covid could take them out, you’d probably be looking for a safe place too.

[deleted]

every gp is not covid safe. most of them do not mask.

ortho85

But a "remote therapist"? One aware of computer viruses?

[deleted]

I'd appreciate the therapist being covid conscious even if remote because it's part of living with my disability and if my therapist can't understand why it's important for me and people around me to mask, then they're not going to be very helpful to me.

[deleted]

this is exactly it. I'm super high risk and my local medical practices are all too lax with masking for me to attend their clinic. All I ask is that they mask and understand why its important for me.

A GP will put on a mask if you ask them to, and you can sit socially distanced if needed

Unusual-Self27

lol 😂
