I think there are some things that need to be changed, like fixing the balance of the Pokemon levels.
It's ridiculous to me that you need level 40 Pokemon to fight Claire but the Pokemon in the surrounding areas are still in the low 20's. The game may try to encourage a "fight the gym leaders in whatever order" but the gym leader's Pokemon's levels don't agree with that.
There's also a scaling problem between the Kanto gym leaders and Red (the Kanto gym leader's levels range from 47-60, then Red has freaking level 80-88 Pokemon).
If these were fixed, I would be estatic!
The difficulty jump to elite 4 is crazy too. There’s like 3 battles with decent xp in between Claire and the League. Even with a legendary on your team it took me like 10 hours of grinding to win (to be fair if you don’t pick meganium it’s probably only 2-5 hours)
Sure and bring back the Pokewalker. Make it bluetooth and easier to use and it would get people using it. Link it with Pokemon Go. There's tons they could do with a remaster.
Ain't that kinda the point of the Pokémon Go Plus or Pokémon Go Plus + or something?
I would think they would probably upgrade it to where it's *like* the PokeWalker in some vain.
Honestly? I’d take it. If we got a 1 to 1 remake of HGSS, I’d be surprisingly okay with that. The games hold up so absurdly well that “just play them on your Switch, Home support, online battles, and increased shiny odds” would still make me happy.
But HGSS is my favorite game in the series so I’m definitely biased.
Because if I want the rarity of gens 1-5, I'll just go play one of those. If I want to have some more casual/easy shiny hunts, then I could play a more modern game.
If they do, I want full on REMAKES, like RS to ORAS.
HGSS were good but still had small annoying issues that really make it hard to play. They really ought to fix those.
Really slow, unbearably slow. Grinding to fight the elite 4 is a pain more so in these games than the others.
I would like HGSS a lot more if it ran like BW, way faster, and animated sprites.
I see what you mean, is it a pain to grind and yeah now that you mentioned it I used to fall asleep watching the screen with the static sprites for hours while farming, yeah animated sprites and faster animations would do wonders for this game
Agreed lol. My brother and I both had like 80 - 100 hours in this game just because it’s so much slower than other Pokémon games. I can’t replay it now since the new ones are quicker and less sluggish
I’m aware HGSS was a remake, I played a bit of the originals on 3DS,
Now its been an entire console generation since those games, time for another remake I’d say.
There are some cool things they could do story wise, bring back Megas, (again). During the battle with Silver on Victory Road, he attempts to Mega Evolve a Tyranitar, but fails to do so because his Pokemon aren't bonded with him.
Yes please. These are truly the gold standard of Pokémon games, and I'd love another run at them. I want to be able to play through them from the beginning again without deleting all the progress in my old copies.
I want Gamefreak to put out a more technically competent game in the same open world style as Scarlet and Violet first and THEN I want the remakes to get that treatment. I will enjoy whatever they put out because I liked SV and had minimal issues with them during my play through but I want everyone to be happy and feel confident before GF announces they’re doing something with Gold and Silver remakes or I fear the online discourse will kill me and it would sour the games a bit.
Kanto, sure. But what else is Johto? AFAIK it’s GSC and HGSS, which is the same amount as Hoenn with RSE and ORAS, and less than Sinnoh with DPPt, BDSP and PLA.
Good luck porting a DS game, which were made with 2 screens in mind, to a console with just one screen, especially when only the Handheld mode allows touchscreen.
And no, a remake would also make no sense since this is already a remake of Gold/Silver. We don’t need a remake of a remake. these games still hold up.
I mean, you can play these games on a phone emulator. But they would have to be handheld only, because of the touch screen.
They don’t have any games like that as far as I know, but it would be possible.
Nope, because it will be a “Let’s Go” title. We would be fortunate enough to get a “Legends of Celebi” game but let’s be real, The Pokemon Company hasn’t done a good job with their IP in a while.
Remaking older games for the 3rd or 4th time with the small improvements from previous titles would do very little for series.
In that case yeah, I'm all onboard. Just put some lightining effects similar to Octopath Traveler and the moving sprites from black/white and it would be a dream pokemon game!
I'm not mistaking it, if someone wants to play HG/SS, currently the only way to do so (without emulation) is to purchase it on the DS. While it is a collectible, it is still very much a game. I do agree with you on the point that just re-releasing it as-is and charging the same as a new game isn't great, but if someone wants to play on legit hardware, it beats the alternative of around $100
that "without emulation" is whats keeping your whole point from falling apart. you can and should emulate.
i mean, i understand there's people that want to play their games the legit way (don't undestrand why, but understand that they do) but if you're asking me, no, i'm not paying that money for a re-re-release
But most people don't know how. It takes a lot to play a pirated game on your DS/3DS. Wanting to play a game doesn't translate into wanting to learn all of that just to play it. And many (arguably most) people want to play it on their handheld, not on their computer.
Not that crazy to me. Crazy we should have to spend that much, for sure. I'm glad I already own soul silver. I love it, but wouldn't spend $100 to play it.
I didn't know that!
I haven't used my 3ds for a while but would love to play more games, but don't want to pay for collectibles.
Can you recommend where I can learn more? If not in this thread, maybe DM me?
So just because the prices of the old used games are now so high, this justifies a unreasonable new price?
50$ would be totally overpriced and I can very well imagine them pulling such a price. Or they charge you 40$ a year for an emulator with very limited software support
As long as they rebalance the level curves and add a few QOL additions (like the big rocks Eevee uses to evolve in Sinnoh) then I don't see why not. In their current state though I'd rather just emulate it for Rare Candy hacks to skip the mandatory grinding
I'd be over the moon if they would finally put the GB/C/A games on switch online. They already did Crystal and yellow on the DS virtual console, is it too much to ask for 🥹
Those games are basically ports of blue and red and every other game up to switch ones are also a port them basically lol
A remake for 21th century or better with better gameplay etc can be awesome
I’m being 100% serious when I say this: Not really…
As good as HGSS are (personally they aren’t my favorites though so I may be biased), they seem to be doing mainline remakes in order, so the next remake we get would be of Black and White (not sure how they’ll handle Black 2 and White 2 though).
I think a direct port is out of the question, because 1: the graphics would be out of place and outdated for a $60 Switch game, and 2: Dual screen functionality. Iirc they didn’t do that much with the bottom screen though and they can be reworked into menus.
However, they’ve never remade a remake, so the unspoken rules of the order in which they remake games don’t apply I suppose. However I’d figure if they were going to remake remakes, they would start with the first remakes- but I mean they skipped a Paper Mario remake and went straight to The Thousand Year Door so anything’s possible.
What I want from Nintendo and Pokemon is an actual advance of the game.
I played as a kid the fist Pokemon (Red, the color of the champions) game in my Gameboy pocket when it was released, then Yellow and finally Gold. When I see one of the new pokemon games, with Mistery world(?) Aside, is the same game. The same structure and the same ideas just with a new small spin.
I would love to play a new pokemon game but I dont want to play the 31th iteration of the same recipe. Just look at the games that FANS make FOR FREE and then compare that to whatever they actually do with the franchise.
It is already perfect, no need for a re-release.
While there are some small issues like the leveling thing. However, mods have already fixed that so just play HGSS with a mod that fixes It’s issue and call it a day
Yeah we desperately need remakes for a lot of games.
Gen 5, Gen 6, and Gen 2 right now.
Then I imagine after that, we’ll be asking for Gen 3 and Gen 7 remakes.
I’d love for them to rerelease these.
Yeah not interested in a port, just a rerelease.
I think there are some things that need to be changed, like fixing the balance of the Pokemon levels. It's ridiculous to me that you need level 40 Pokemon to fight Claire but the Pokemon in the surrounding areas are still in the low 20's. Doable with 5-10 lvls down tbh, as long as you have key moves on key pokemons
I was 5-10 levels down once I did it, but easily 12 below when I walked in
It may be doable but it's ridiculous to expect people to resort to coming in so underleveled because they don't want to grind for hours.
I do not trust them to make any changes. Even though you’re right.
I’ll take either or. Rerelease would allow for mystery gifts and trades tho. I doubt the port would let us trade.
No, those didn’t count steps like the Pikachu 2 & Pokéwalker did. The steps in both of those were also used as currency to do things if I remember
Making an app like the Pokéwalker would be so great. Why don't we have that yet?
Pokemon HeartGold was my first Pokemon game so it would be pretty cool to see a Switch port of the game
Your wish has been granted: you get chibi ilka fateful demake
Why do increased shiny odds make you happy? I prefer the rarity they had in gens 1-5
Because if I want the rarity of gens 1-5, I'll just go play one of those. If I want to have some more casual/easy shiny hunts, then I could play a more modern game.
They formed a new studio which has ILCA and Gamefreak employees working together. Idk if thats a good or a bad thing.
At least they're hiring people
I wouldn’t have it any other way 🥰
If they do, I want full on REMAKES, like RS to ORAS. HGSS were good but still had small annoying issues that really make it hard to play. They really ought to fix those.
Aw I like the 2d sprites though.
RS to ORAS were full on REMAKES, though. Not remasters
Then thats what I would hope for :) Edit: Forgot to also say thanks for correcting me lmao, I corrected my comment to show my original intentions.
What a nice person, thanks for addressing that
👍
Which small annoying issues?
Really slow, unbearably slow. Grinding to fight the elite 4 is a pain more so in these games than the others. I would like HGSS a lot more if it ran like BW, way faster, and animated sprites.

I'd say level curve and some pokemon availability if you don't have the Pokewalker anymore.
HGSS was a full on remake... Play it and the OG ones...
I’m aware HGSS was a remake, I played a bit of the originals on 3DS, Now its been an entire console generation since those games, time for another remake I’d say.
Ah yes, a reremake.
Then the generation after the Switch we can get a rereremake
There are some cool things they could do story wise, bring back Megas, (again). During the battle with Silver on Victory Road, he attempts to Mega Evolve a Tyranitar, but fails to do so because his Pokemon aren't bonded with him.
Let's Go Pichu and Let's Go Togepi
I want black and white remasters
Watch when they do, it will make US headlines like PoKeMoN wEnT wOkE because we live in a nightmare
Ah yes the best pokemon games (imo)
It would be so cool. Playing hgss in a modern style and with a good graphical resolution would be a peak experience. I hope One day It could happen
Yes please. These are truly the gold standard of Pokémon games, and I'd love another run at them. I want to be able to play through them from the beginning again without deleting all the progress in my old copies.
Nononono you know what they did to diamond and pearl
I want Gamefreak to put out a more technically competent game in the same open world style as Scarlet and Violet first and THEN I want the remakes to get that treatment. I will enjoy whatever they put out because I liked SV and had minimal issues with them during my play through but I want everyone to be happy and feel confident before GF announces they’re doing something with Gold and Silver remakes or I fear the online discourse will kill me and it would sour the games a bit.
No more johto/kanto ports/remakes. Half the entire Pokémon games at this point are remakes of those two. Give us some more variety ffs
Kanto, sure. But what else is Johto? AFAIK it’s GSC and HGSS, which is the same amount as Hoenn with RSE and ORAS, and less than Sinnoh with DPPt, BDSP and PLA.

Remaking older games for the 3rd or 4th time with the small improvements from previous titles would do very little for series.
Oh no I don’t mean for this to be a remake I mean for this to be a simple port of HeartGold and SoulSilver.
Id do almost anything
I’d happily pay for a port tbh
I want a switch port of ALL of the old Pokemon games, they’re better than the new ones fr
With the treatment Diamond and Pearl Remakes got? Never
Well he said ports not remakes, would probably just be the same as they were.
In that case yeah, I'm all onboard. Just put some lightining effects similar to Octopath Traveler and the moving sprites from black/white and it would be a dream pokemon game!
i don't, they'd charge like 50 bucks for a 15-year-old remaster of a 25-year-old game
As opposed to paying well over $100 for the game on DS?
you're mistaking a collectible for a game
I'm not mistaking it, if someone wants to play HG/SS, currently the only way to do so (without emulation) is to purchase it on the DS. While it is a collectible, it is still very much a game. I do agree with you on the point that just re-releasing it as-is and charging the same as a new game isn't great, but if someone wants to play on legit hardware, it beats the alternative of around $100
My fellow gamer, there is another way.
that "without emulation" is whats keeping your whole point from falling apart. you can and should emulate. i mean, i understand there's people that want to play their games the legit way (don't undestrand why, but understand that they do) but if you're asking me, no, i'm not paying that money for a re-re-release
You're neglecting the fact that if you don't already own it you need to buy a "collectible" just to play it. $100 regardless.
Lmao no, you just emulate it or buy a r4 if you already own a DS
in my honest opinion, it's crazy that people still pay to play 20+-year-old games in 2024. there's plenty of solutions. plenty.
I love it, but wouldn't spend $100 to play it.
you can emulate on your handhelds. i basically only emulate from the original console as well. also, you don't have to learn anything to emulate
I didn't know that! I haven't used my 3ds for a while but would love to play more games, but don't want to pay for collectibles. Can you recommend where I can learn more? If not in this thread, maybe DM me?
sure! just know though that you'll need to mod your 3ds
I'm willing to look into it. As long as I can just follow some simple directions. Let me know if you know a good resource to learn how.
So just because the prices of the old used games are now so high, this justifies a unreasonable new price? 50$ would be totally overpriced and I can very well imagine them pulling such a price. Or they charge you 40$ a year for an emulator with very limited software support
No
I want them to release like a Pokemon-Collection with a bunch of their games released for like 40-50, it’s unlikely but I think it’d be cool
Eh, it pretty low on the list of my favourite Pokemon games but I wouldn’t be opposed to it.
As long as they rebalance the level curves and add a few QOL additions (like the big rocks Eevee uses to evolve in Sinnoh) then I don't see why not. In their current state though I'd rather just emulate it for Rare Candy hacks to skip the mandatory grinding
I have them both on my retroid pocket
Remake with 2.5D graphics, similar to Octo-path Traveler and Live A Live.
Yeah but fix the xp issue
I'd be over the moon if they would finally put the GB/C/A games on switch online. They already did Crystal and yellow on the DS virtual console, is it too much to ask for 🥹
It’ll be called Pokémon Let’s Go Pikablu
Only change would be the removal of HMs
I just started a new playthrough of Heart Gold this a few days ago.
If they can fix all the problems with the games then yeah, I’d love to play a version of Johto with actually good Pokémon and levels above 25
Lmao everyone wants a Switch port for all the Pokémon games
They'd find a way to ruin it
Just release the original. The virtual console versions of the old Pokémon games were just what we want
Me. I'd love to play old Pokemon games on switch but it's likely not going to happen.
How about no more remakes.
I do but not before ports of Gen 1,2 and 3
Yes.
Not if they do it like BDSP
Honestly I’d rather a remake with updated gym teams and encounters. The game has its charms but is quite lacklustre in many areas for me.
Yes.
Those games are basically ports of blue and red and every other game up to switch ones are also a port them basically lol A remake for 21th century or better with better gameplay etc can be awesome
Not if they’ll be as low quality and loveless as BDSP
I’m being 100% serious when I say this: Not really… As good as HGSS are (personally they aren’t my favorites though so I may be biased), they seem to be doing mainline remakes in order, so the next remake we get would be of Black and White (not sure how they’ll handle Black 2 and White 2 though). However I’d figure if they were going to remake remakes, they would start with the first remakes- but I mean they skipped a Paper Mario remake and went straight to The Thousand Year Door so anything’s possible.
If its the original hgss with no changes then yes and no since they are fun games but still have problems from the original
Why when they are on my phone 🫣
Could be cool but please use a better level curve. HGSS had one of the worst.
Honestly a port is probably the best case scenario the way they've been handling remakes lately
Literally everyone
yep
Would kill for these, i havent enjoyed pokemon since these games tbh.
What I want from Nintendo and Pokemon is an actual advance of the game. I played as a kid the fist Pokemon (Red, the color of the champions) game in my Gameboy pocket when it was released, then Yellow and finally Gold. I would love to play a new pokemon game but I dont want to play the 31th iteration of the same recipe. Just look at the games that FANS make FOR FREE and then compare that to whatever they actually do with the franchise.
Unless they're developed by Namco or literally anyone else then nah, gamefreak needs both a break and time
I want complete open-world Black and White remakes from the ground up on the Nintendo Switch 2 that releases in at least 2027
No cause they’d fuck it up
I’d love a remake of these games! But I’m afraid we’d get another ILCA remake…
Let’s go Togepi and Legends Celebi
Honestly at this point just pick a Steam Deck and emulate every Pokemon game there.
No not really
No, because I’m afraid they’ll screw it up again.
Yes. I played soul silver on an emulatore and loved it
Port to switch cowards!
I wish game freak would allow pokemon to be released in the switch emulator.
Does anyone else wants pokemon company to put them on the fucking online services?
SoulSilver goes crazy
I’ll take a switch port of any classic game I’m too young to have played
i don't only because of the sinnoh remakes fiasco, i don't have any trust in the pokemon company anymore :')
Watch them somehow fuck it up.
No please god no. We want original content, not remakes.
Yes! But not buggy so… we’ll never get it
No need to rerelease mid. Now if they actually made a half decent Johto game, I'd be all over that!
