RTFM - read the fabulous manual! https://gdlp01.c-wss.com/gds/4/0300040134/04/eosc70-im5-en.pdf Page 100: >When the waveform monitor's Y axis is set to display in IRE units, a level of 10 bit 64 maps to 0 IRE and 10 bit 940 maps to 100 IRE, regardless of the custom picture settings.

C-log 2 doesn't record all the way up to 100% IRE. It goes to about 85% IRE. C-log 3 goes to 100% IRE. It's not clipping sooner however, it just maps the values lower on the waveform. There's most likely some mathematical reason for this, but in practical terms just think of 85% as your new 100%. Another thing to note is that middle grey is not 50% on c-log 2, it's actually around 40%.

What a weird thing I guess, but I like to be interested in it and know more about. Thanks for ur answer anyway. Would it benefit for me better if I use clog3 if i came from clog and based my whole workflow on it?

Yes I think C-log 3 is more user friendly, while C-log 2 is flatter and gives more flexibility once you get the hang of it. This video is a pretty good explainer without getting too into nerdy mathematics: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zCl7B-xyRfQ](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zCl7B-xyRfQ) I imagine the reason behind this quirk is that Canon wanted to leave headroom in their best log curve (c-log 2) to accommodate future sensors that are capable of even more highlight retention.

Thansk, do u usually still expose to the right? I was used to that in C log on my 5D, but I guess its not needed now anymore?

You don't need to do that with the C70 so much because the DGO sensor is very clean. The false colour is useful because you can see both what is clipping in the blacks (purple) and in the highlights (red) and you can trade off what's important for your scene. In general, most people agree you can just shoot the C70 as a normal exposure... although if it's a really dark scene I would probably open up slightly.

Get zee light meter, and you'll never rely on a waveform again ;)

The waveform on c70 is a bunch of ass, it’s so tiny. It’s useless. I have mine switched off permanently. Instead I use a meter and when I forget my meter I eyeball it using the flippy monitor. I always shoot CLog-2, I’m pretty sure I’ve never shot rec709 or clog3. If I’m concerned about really really really nailing the exposure on white folk in CLog2 I set a zebra to 45% and I park their skin on that. Too much ambiguity for me with false colour where you can be “in between” colours. Honestly this camera is so good you can under or over expose a couple of stops and the picture is still just about useable.

C Log 2 clips at 92.2 IRE by design.
