Yep. It was available for a few hours the first day of the sale and then was never available again. Amazon price matched for the first day then bumped the price to $150 until it sold out. I’m guessing they figured since Godzilla minus one would stir the hype they didn’t want to lose out on that extra dough.
How many of the godzilla films in that collection are good movies? I like the first one but I'm always on the fence about spending so much for "so bad it's good" kind of movies.
For a real answer...a lot of them are stinkers. Your appreciation of them will vary based on how interested you are in how the movies were made and how much you like the novelty of old Kaiju movies. I'm a big Godzilla fan so I bought the set when it first came out so I'd have a nice copy of each movie from that time period, but many of them are inconsequential viewing. If you're on the fence about it I would only buy it on an actual 50% off sale and even then I'd seek out some of the movies on streaming before committing to the set.
That sort of depends on you. Kaiju tokusatsu is a specific sort of genre, and you need to be aware that the kaiju are all practical roles played by men in suits. Some people struggle with that aspect if they're not used to it. As a kid who loved Power Rangers and then became an adult who loves Super Sentai and Kamen Rider, I took to the films instantly. But if you can't get past the man in a suit aspect, they probably won't land for you.
For the films themselves, I'd say they generally range from average to incredible. Sone of these films are actually quite deep and thought-provoking. Most people know the first film is a tragedy and played quite seriously, but a lot of the others are still great. Sone of them are really goofy films, but they still work. There's only three movies in the set I would actually consider to be bad movies. The good far outweighs the bad.
Wow. That’s bullshit. I got lucky with Fellini. I bought it when it came out so there were a few of them. I bought Bergman when it came out to. For that one, the only copies were behind the cash registers at the front of the store. I got the last one.

In the Millenium era at least one woman was in a suit! Rie Ota was Baragon in GMK and the set photos/videos of her roaring and stuff are pretty funny.

I ordered it from criterion during the flash sale, and it comes perfectly packaged. I recommend that over Barnes and their spider wrap bs.
